The Fruit Truck to sell at Pete’s Place South May 25

BEMIDJI — The Fruit Truck will sell peaches and pecans from 8 to 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, at Pete’s Place South in Bemidji.

The Fruit Truck, based out of Sioux Falls, S.D., offers GMO-free, farmfresh fruit. The Fruit Truck’s fruit doesn’t need to be sprayed because it’s delivered fresh from farms and orchards around the country, a release said.

According to the release, The Fruit Truck started as an idea from moms who wanted better food for their families. Since then, the company has gained mass publicity and many new customers because of its unique business model, which allows it to sell fresh fruit directly to its customers, eliminating the need for grocery stores while keeping costs low.

The Fruit Truck packages produce in one-quarter or one-half bushel boxes for customers at the truck, so customers don’t need to bring their own boxes. There are no purchase limits per person and cash, Venmo or checks are accepted. Participants must pay at the truck at the time of pick-up.

To register for pick up, visit myfruittruck.com/ signup. Registration is not required, but allows

the Fruit Truck to notify residents of their delivery and gives the farm a count of the fruit needed for delivery, a release said.

To view the summer Fruit Truck schedule and sign up for text messages or email updates for delivery dates, visit myfruittruck.com/ schedule.

Beltrami County Historical Society guided bus tour set for June 1

BEMIDJI — Beltrami County Historical Society will host a guided bus tour, “The New Deal in Beltrami County,” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 1.

Sponsored in part by Beltrami County Development Funds, the excursion will take off at 10 a.m. from the Beltrami County History Center located at 130 Minnesota

Ave. SW in downtown Bemidji. The tour invites participants to embark on a captivating journey through the rich history of the New Deal era in Beltrami County, a release said.

The New Deal, a transformative series of initiatives introduced during the Great Depression by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, left an indelible mark on American society. Designed to alleviate economic hardships, the New Deal programs spurred employment, infrastructure development and cultural enrichment across the nation. Beltrami County is home to many New Deal projects, each contributing to the region’s unique heritage.

During the tour, participants will have the opportunity to explore key sites that reflect the legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps, the Works Progress Administration and other New Deal initiatives. Stops include the historic Kelliher Auditorium, the picturesque CCC Camp Rabideau near Blackduck, the scenic Bemidji State Park and the iconic Fireplace of States.

Specially guided tours at Camp Rabideau and Bemidji State Park will offer in-depth perspectives on the craftsmanship and conservation

efforts of the era. Additionally, a CCC-inspired lunch will be provided.

During the event, expert guides will provide insights into the significance of these landmarks and the lasting impact of the New Deal on the local landscape.

To purchase tickets, visit beltramihistory.org, call (218) 444-3376, or visit the Beltrami County History Center during open hours 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.

Amy Rea to present at NELL May 29

BAGLEY — Northern Exposure to Lifelong Learning will wrap up its spring season with Amy Rea presenting “A Whole World of Food Here in Minnesota” at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29, at Faith Lutheran Church, 32 Bagley Ave. NW.

“What do lutefisk, fish eyes, camel liver and pig

uterus all have in common?” a release asked. “They’re all foods available for dining in Minnesota.”

Rea has spent years exploring the increasingly wide-ranging world of food in the state, from its native roots with wild rice and the “three sisters;” to the arrival of Scandinavians with lefse and lutefisk; to Eastern Europeans who brought porketta, pasties, and potica; to today’s immigrant groups that created Minnesota-nice versions of their home foods before taking the risk of adding ingredients and heat levels previously unknown in the state.

“Rea has cheerfully explored all kinds of cuisines and tried everything listed above, and not only did she live to tell the tale, she’d happily eat most of these things again (with one notable

exception),” the release said. “What’s more, there are often more similarities than differences between different food cultures.”

Rea is the author of several guidebooks for the state of Minnesota and is a contributing writer for heavytable.

com. Doors open at 9 a.m. with the program starting at 9:30 a.m. Refreshments will be served and a free-will donation will be accepted.

The keynote speaker will be Derek Thompson. Thompson’s testimony will share his passion for seeing young people, and people who are lost in life, experience the lifechanging power of the gospel, a release said.

Thompson grew up in the town of Cold Spring, Minn. He was raised Lutheran and attended church regularly. His father was a UPS driver, retiring by the time he entered high school, and his mother taught business classes at Albany middle school and high school.

In his five years at Bemidji State, Thompson obtained a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in marketing, a minor in sports management and a Master of Business Administration degree. He started for the men’s basketball team for all five years he was a student there.

In 2021, he renewed his faith following the deaths of his father and best friend in 2020. He served as a student leader in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at BSU. Six months before his graduation, he met his wife, Alyssa.

Upon graduating from BSU in May of 2022, he received an insurance license with the plan to pursue insurance sales but decided to continue working with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He has been with FCA for two years, serving at BSU and several high schools in the area. Thompson and Alyssa have been married since July 2023 and live in Bemidji. Thompson enjoys staying active in a variety of ways, including basketball, pickleball and fly fishing. He is also completing an online master’s degree in biblical and theological studies from Phoenix Seminary. Pet Fixers clinics scheduled for June 1-2
