Deuces Wild Dueling Pianos return to Bemidji Feb. 10

BEMIDJI — Back by popular demand, Deuces Wild Dueling Pianos is returning to the Sanford Center at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10.

“Deuces Wild Dueling Pianos is a fan favorite of northern Minnesota and has captivated Bemidji audiences time and time again,” a release said.

Lead performers Ted and Dave have been performing together for over 17 years. The duo showcases a mix of music and parodies ranging from country to rap songs.

“The two musicians have crafted what has become a nationally acclaimed show of music, comedy and intense audience engagement,” the release said. “Son of a miner from the northern woods of Minnesota, David Charles Eichholz is a versatile, self-taught

The waiting game continues for ‘good ice’ A ngling traffic was minimal in the area last weekend.

Steady rainfall and warm temperatures persisted, and not many were interested in fishing in the puddles. Some folks did though, and they report that while wet conditions prevented new ice from forming, they didn’t kill the ice on lakes where it had already formed. Lakes that have “good” ice are small, shallower ones and because of that crappies, sunfish and perch got the lion’s share of attention locally. On shallow shorelines and back bays of larger lakes,

At Lake of the Woods, overnight temperatures had been getting just cold enough to make some new ice. On the south shore, some of the rental operators are transporting anglers to and from their day house rentals.

Most of their landings

have been closed to general traffic though. As of this morning, there are still numerous advisories about sketchy travel conditions. Any off-road exploration of ice conditions should be left to the experts.

Conditions for forming ice took a turn for the better overnight on Sunday. Outside my office, the temperature is 9 degrees right now, so lakes that already had good ice will be dry again today. Locally, daytime temperatures are forecast to warm up again throughout the week but will be cold enough

overnight to form a little bit of new ice.

Further north, temperatures might not be ideal for a fast freeze, but will be slightly colder. Overnight temps in the teens, daytime highs in the low 30s should be good news for rental operators.

Without wild fluctuations in air temperatures, the ice will be somewhat less prone to cracking and heaving, that should make developing trails easier.

Though colds are not exclusive to winter, they tend to be more common in the colder months of the year, when people typically spend more time indoors, making it easier for cold viruses to spread from one person to another.

As cold season hits full swing, it’s important to recognize that the common cold is not always behind those uncomfortable coughs and sniffles.

Respiratory syncytial virus, often referred to as RSV, is a serious respiratory virus that produces symptoms similar to those associated with the common cold. Some basic knowledge of RSV can ensure people seek the treatment they need to overcome it.

When is RSV most likely to occur?

According to the ALA, the peak season for RSV is fall through spring.

However, the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment notes that RSV infections rose sharply in summer 2021. Though that spike was likely due to a relaxation of coronavirus restrictions, it underscores that RSV can strike in summer, even if it’s less likely to spread during times of year when people tend to spend more time outdoors.

What are the symptoms of RSV?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that people infected with RSV typically exhibit symptoms within four to six days of infection. Drinking plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration and speaking with a physician prior to taking something or giving a child something to treat RSV is recommended.

Is there an RSV vaccination?

The CDC recommends immunization for those most at risk of serious illness from RSV. High-risk groups include infants, toddlers and adults age 60 and older. Parents and older adults are urged to speak to their child’s doctors and their own physicians about RSV vaccination.
