Weed Eradication At Green Point Reserve
Located less than 2km from our Sailing Club most of our Members may have walked, cycled, picnicked, fished, or in someway, have used one of the local natural treasures that is the 152ha site of Green Point Reserve.
Not only does this reserve provide a wonderful natural leisure playground for locals it also contains a wide range of plant communities including three Endangered Ecological Communities and a variety of threatened species including the Powerful Owl, Squirrel
Glider and Sea Eagle. However, today in some parts it’s still overrun with feral plant species exacerbated by the recent lengthy wet season making it a greater challenge to keep feral weeds at bay. Since the late 1980s, volunteers have worked to regenerate the beautiful bushland at Green Point, currently a small team spend a few hours each Wednesday working towards controlling the spread of noxious and feral weeds.
Marion Lugg of Lake Macquarie Land Care explains that Belmont 16s’ donation of $2000 will go towards a full day of volunteers working towards the eradication of these weeds, this action will assist in making the long term control much easier to tackle! The bush regeneration team plans to goes to work on Wednesday 12 July. We will keep our members updated through socials with before and after photos of the clean up.
