A Message from the President Harry Guinocor , P T , D P T , M S , M B A

President, FILAMemphis, Inc.

Maligayang Pasko! (Merry Christmas!) How time flies! Tonight marks the fourth and final Pasko Sa Memphis under my term as President, and what a journey it has been. It has been an incredible honor and privilege to serve as President during the 47th year of FILAMemphis, Inc., a community built on decades of dedication, resilience, and camaraderie. This evening is not just a celebration of the season, but also of the triumphs, successes, and the many dreams we have turned into reality together. Each year, Pasko Sa Memphis has taken on a unique theme. Who could forget Christmasquerade in 2021, followed by Apatnapu’t Limang Taon Na Po Tayo (We’re 45 Years Old!) in 2022, the iconic Pasko Sa Memphis, Sa Bakuran ni Elvis (Christmas in Memphis, In Elvis’s Backyard) in 2023, and now, Kumukutikutitap (To Glimmer and Flicker) in 2024? While each theme has brought its own flavor, they all share something truly special: months of hard work, planning, and practice that culminate in a joyous celebration of community and togetherness. In the process, we’ve not only created unforgettable memories but also strengthened the bonds that make FILAMemphis, Inc. a thriving and vibrant organization. The theme Kumukutikutitap reminds me of the stars—shining brightly in the night sky. Tonight’s event is a constellation of stars, each one representing the incredible individuals who make up this community. From the performers, organizers, and sponsors to the parents, guests, and every single person here—you are all the stars that illuminate our path. Together, your collective brilliance lights up our community, making it shine brighter than ever. To all the superstars who made tonight possible, I salute you. Let’s continue to celebrate one another, support each other, and keep shining our unique light for all to see. Enjoy tonight’s festivities and may we carry this brightness into the future! Mabuhay tayong lahat! (Long live us all!)

A Message from the incoming President

Roy A. Alinsub , P T , D P T , C W S

President-Elect, FILAMemphis, Inc. 2025-2026

Mabuhay tayong lahat! It is with great pleasure that I welcome everyone to our annual FILAMemphis Christmas Gala. This year’s theme, Kumukutikutitap, which means “shining” or “sparkling,” beautifully captures the essence of the Filipino spirit. It brings to mind the twinkling lights adorning streets and the parols glowing outside homes in the Philippines as early as September. Even when we are far from home, I am proud to say that Filipinos carry that sparkle with them, lighting up every place they go with joy, resilience, and a deep sense of community. As the incoming President of FILAMemphis, Inc., I am deeply honored to serve and lead our vibrant Filipino-American community here in Memphis and the Mid-South. This is a responsibility I embrace wholeheartedly, and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue advancing our mission. I also want to express my heartfelt gratitude to all the past leaders of this organization, whose dedication and hard work have laid a strong foundation for us to build upon. Tonight’s celebration is a testament to the teamwork, creativity, and love that define our community. I would like to extend my sincerest thanks to the officers and organizers for their exceptional leadership in bringing this Pasko Sa Memphis Christmas Gala to life, as well as to the performers and volunteers whose talent and dedication make this event truly spectacular. May we continue to shine brightly, not only in tonight’s festivities but also through our service to the community and one another. Together, let us carry forward the legacy of FILAMemphis, Inc. with pride, unity, and a shared commitment to make a difference. Mabuhay ang FILAMemphis! Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a joyful celebration!

From FILAMEMPHIS Board of Directors

Happy Holidays, FILAMemphis, Inc. Community! Cheers to another wonderful year to celebrate the Filipino-American community as we conclude our 47th year. There are no words to describe the immense pride I have in our growing community. How fortunate are we to celebrate yet another successful year together? As many of you know, the theme of this evening’s event is Kumukutikutitap – to glimmer or flicker. For me, I would translate the meaning to be something like “little light;” and I find that this theme personifies the exact purpose of FILAM. Why? Because FILAM is the “little light” that sparks the passion, love, and belonging that we, as Filipino-Americans, celebrate today and every day. I continue to share the same message I have always shared: whether you are an immigrant or a first-generation Filipino-American, speak Ilocano or Cebuano, 5 years old or 50 years old – FILAMemphis has a place for everyone, and everyone has a place in FILAMemphis. Kumukutikutitap embodies that very message. Without you, FILAM could not be the little light that it is for many. I personally thank each and every one of you for your continued support as FILAMemphis, Inc. continues to advocate, educate, and celebrate our beautiful Filipino history. Thank you for being a part of our “little light” and welcoming each other and others to our warm community. It is because of your continued support, FILAM continues to thrive. Whether as an immigrant, a first-generation Filipino-American, or simply a friend of the community, you will always have a home at FILAMemphis, Inc. Happy Holidays!

Pasayawa ko Day

Pasayawa ko Day". A Filipino courtship folk song which means "dance with me my love". The song talks about a man asking a woman for a dance and gets turned down multiple times. Furthermore, this song mirrors the usual scene in a bayle where men must impress to be able to have that dance.

Wasiwas

also known as the Pandanggo Oasiwas, is a Filipino dance that originated in the fishing town of Lingayen, Pangasinan. The dance is performed after a successful catch, when fishermen and their families celebrate by drinking, eating, and dancing. The dancers swing and circle with lighted lamps in their hands, and the graceful moves of the dance give it the name "Oasiwas", which means "swinging" in the local dialect

BANGKO

Tinikling CHOREOGRAPHED BY:

Michael Bonngaling

Tinikling is one of the most popular folk dances in the Philippines which originated during the Spanish colonial era - particularly in Leyte, one of the Visayan Islands. The traditional dance is named after the birds locally known as tikling (often referring to rail species), and imitates the movement of these birds as they walk on grass or dodge bamboo traps set by rice farmers. The perfomance involves the rhythmic clapping, tapping, and sliding bamboo poles on the ground and against each other while one or more dancers step over and in between the poles on timing with the beat. Considered a national dance in the Philippines, tinikling is commonly performed on Filipino festivals, at school or theater performances.
