We fortified our community ties through impactful cultural and recreational programs while elevating our visibility through active participation in city-wide events. This engagement has enabled us to cultivate meaningful relationships with diverse global communities. As advocates for diversity and inclusivity, we recognize the importance of fostering an environment that embraces individuals from all walks of life, irrespective of appearance or background. Volunteers’ Appreciation

FILAmemphis, Inc. stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of volunteerism, having thrived for 46 years through the dedicated efforts of our volunteers. These individuals generously contribute not only their time, skills, and energy but also their heartfelt compassion, enabling our organization to flourish. Recognizing the invaluable contribution of volunteers, we extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who has supported our diverse programs from Santacruzan, Liga ng Pinoy and Pasko Sa Memphis to name a few.

As a token of our appreciation, our officers orchestrated a memorable event on January 8, 2023: a traditional Filipino Boodle Fight. This gathering featured authentic Filipino cuisine enjoyed through the unique 'kamayan' style, where participants partook in a shared meal using their hands. The event served as a poignant blend of cultural immersion, social camaraderie, and gastronomic delight, further reinforcing the bonds within our community.

FILAMemphis, Inc. has allocated a total sum of $3,658.94 as part of its humanitarian initiatives during the fiscal year of 2023. These initiatives aimed at providing assistance to individuals within the community grappling with challenging living circumstances, such as imminent homelessness resulting from unforeseen adversities such as illness or the loss of income following a bereavement.

Moreover, a segment of these allocated funds was directed towards aiding newly arrived Filipino migrants, facilitating their seamless integration into their new environment. Additionally, financial aid was extended to a cancer patient hailing from the Philippines, necessitating support for post-surgical travel expenses incurred during their stay in the United States.

Furthermore, FILAMemphis, Inc. extended support to two commendable organizations. One organization received assistance for its continued provision of medical aid to attendees during FILAMemphis events. The other organization received aid for building renovation purposes, having graciously provided FILAMemphis with a practice space, free of charge, for the preceding three years. The selection of these organizations was meticulously undertaken through a rigorous screening process, recognizing their indispensable roles in facilitating FILAMemphis, Inc.'s mission and community-centric programming endeavors.

HUMANITARIAN PROGRAM PROGRAM REPORT

The title "King and Queen of Hearts" epitomizes a deepseated connection characterized by love, unity, and harmony, serving as an exemplary model for our community. Beyond their profound bond, these distinguished individuals stand as commendable ambassadors of philanthropy, leveraging their influence to support deserving high school seniors through scholarship initiatives. Eric & Maricon Dampil have exemplified this esteemed role with utmost dedication, leading initiatives that resulted in an impressive fundraising accomplishment of $2, 020 for the scholarship program. Their unwavering commitment not only embodies the spirit of the title but also leaves a lasting legacy, positively impacting the futures of emerging leaders within our community.

PROGRAM REPORT EDUCATION PROGRAM

In 2023, the Education Committee expanded its services, also focusing on internship programs for current college students and sponsoring a leadership workshop for young professionals.

A total of $4,200 scholarship was awarded to nine deserving high school graduates which was presented during the 2023 Christmas Gala, "Pasko sa Memphis".

18TH ANNUAL TREE PLANTING WOLF RIVER CONSERVANCY'S

Officers and volunteers of FILAMemphis, Inc actively participated in the 18th Annual Tree Planting event in collaboration with the Wolf River Conservancy on March 4, 2023. A total of 400 diverse native trees were potted during this initiative. The forthcoming planting endeavors will strategically disperse these saplings across the Wolf River watershed, with a specific focus on addressing blighted areas in need. This collective effort exemplifies our commitment to fulfilling our social responsibility by actively contributing to the protection and preservation of our environment.

The City of Memphis Adopt A Park program is dedicated to the fundamental objective of creating picturesque and impeccably maintained parks, devoid of litter. The ultimate aim is to establish a pristine and inviting environment that benefits all, providing a cleaner and more enjoyable space for everyone to appreciate.

FILAMemphis, Inc. is delighted to officially declare its collaboration with the City of Memphis as the proud adopter of JFK Park, situated in the heart of Raleigh Lagrange. This meaningful partnership underscores our commitment to actively contribute to the well-being and enhancement of our community through the stewardship of this cherished public space.

Another Easter season brings us together for our annual Easter Picnic and Egg Hunt! Such a great turn out of new and old faces alike, came to the Jones Pond Pavilion at Shelby Farms for food, fun, and fellowship. We started the morning with a delicious picnic spread, with everyone bringing a favorite dish to share! What started as a cool morning, heated up quickly with the games we had for our youth, and our young at heart. From our relay games like the Sack Race and Egg Relay, to our Piñata and of course, our Egg Hunt with our special Golden Eggs!

The annual event "Santacruzan featuring Flores De Memphis" holds a special position on FILAMemphis, Inc 's calendar, blending religious devotion with cultural heritage This beloved tradition begins with an eight-day virtual novena of the Holy Rosary, a heartfelt tribute to the Blessed Virgin Mother, culminating on the ninth day with a procession.

Following this solemn observance, attendees enjoy a culturally immersive program highlighting the "reynas" and "sagalas " Each participant in the procession, adorned with symbolic artifacts, shares their significance in the narrative of Christianity's roots Beyond its religious importance, this occasion has become a meaningful milestone for many young women, offering them a unique representation and honoring their significant roles within our community.

A YOUTH EMPOWRMENT INITIATIVE

In its third year, FILAM Field Day blossomed into an unparalleled success, uniting the vibrant young members of the community once more in a celebration of camaraderie, sportsmanship, and communal spirit. On the scorching day of August 5, 2023, the atmosphere sizzled with excitement as participants embraced the heat with unwavering enthusiasm.

A standout feature of this year's festivities was the highly anticipated beach volleyball, injecting a dimension of thrill and athleticism into the event. Additionally, the Relay Team Competition sparked a spirited yet amicable rivalry among three dynamic teams. Drawing inspiration from the colors of the Philippine flag, the teams were aptly named red, blue, and yellow, symbolizing unity and national pride.

In the culmination of an exhilarating day, the YELLOW team emerged triumphant, their collective efforts and unwavering determination propelling them to victory. Their win not only symbolized their athletic prowess but also embodied the essence of community strength and solidarity that FILAM Field Day embodies.

FILAMemphis, Inc. proudly deployed a dedicated volunteer team to man Run Aid Station #7 in Hyde Park of Shelby Farms during the St. Jude Ironman 70.3 Memphis event on October 7, 2023. Enthusiastic volunteers went above and beyond, offering more than 1,000 athletes essential hydration, uplifting cheers, and motivational support to propel them to the finish line of this demanding race.

In recognition of FILAMemphis, Inc.'s impactful community service, the Ironman Foundation honored the organization with a $3,500 grant. This financial support will be directed towards subsidizing programs aimed at empowering youth and fostering cultural awareness within the community.

FILAMemphis, Inc. had the distinct honor of participating in Snowden Elementary School's Multicultural Program on October 19, 2023. Adding a touch of cultural richness through its kuwentuhan program, Harry Guinocor captivated a sizable audience comprising middle and grade schoolers, parents, and faculty. With animated enthusiasm, he shared the enchanting Filipino folklore titled "Ang Alamat ng Pinya" (The Legend of the Pineapple).

The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as children and adults alike were transported into the narrative, embracing not only the captivating tale but also the valuable moral lessons it imparted. The event left an indelible impression, fostering cultural appreciation and shared moments of joy and learning.

the dynamic leadership of Roy Alinsub and the Sports Committee, stands as a beacon of sportsmanship and camaraderie, uniting our entire community. What began as a modest fundraising basketball tournament has blossomed into a multifaceted event encompassing four competitive categories: Bata (kids division), Kabataan (Youth), Maginoo (Adults/Legends), and Super Seniors. The tournament's popularity has surged, attracting teams from Kentucky, Louisiana, Nashville, Arkansas, and Houston, Texas.

Due to overwhelming demand, Liga Ng Pinoy Basketball Tournament has transcended its annual roots, now gracing our community twice a year.

The recent addition of a Volleyball tournament has further expanded its reach, providing a thrilling alternative for sports enthusiasts. This transformative event not only unites our community through spirited competition but has also emerged as a vital fundraiser for FILAMemphis, Inc., channeling crucial funds to support various organizational programs. Liga Ng Pinoy has truly become a powerhouse, symbolizing the spirit of unity and collaboration within FILAMemphis, Inc.

"maBOOhay" stands as FILAMemphis, Inc.'s spirited Halloween event, thoughtfully curated for both children and the youthful at heart. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the organizers whose dedication and creativity transformed this vision into a delightful reality, igniting joy and excitement among attendees.

The name "maBOOhay" ingeniously merges two distinct linguistic elements: "Mabuhay," a warm Filipino greeting meaning "welcome," and "Boo," an English term evoking playful fright. This harmonious blend encapsulates the event's essence, welcoming participants with a spirited twist that celebrates cultural fusion and festive fun.

“Pasko Sa Memphis, Sa Bakuran ni Elvis" held at the Graceland Exhibition Center on December 9, 2023 drew 400 guests and 150 performers. The Christmas Gala emerged as a triumphant celebration, drawing a diverse crowd that spanned generations within the FILAMemphis, Inc. community. From steadfast individuals who witnessed the organization's inception to the vibrant younger generation poised to shape its future, the event united us all.

Amidst the festive ambiance, we collectively honored our rich culture and traditions, surrounded by friends, family, and community members committed to the shared goal of making Memphis an inclusive and welcoming city. The gathering served as a testament to our collective dedication, bridging gaps across ages and backgrounds in a joyous celebration of unity.

We are proud to highlight the culturally rich and storied heritage of the Filipino community, placing it center stage. We take immense pride in showcasing to the universe the depth and history of our culture, actively contributing to making Memphis a beautiful haven where diversity and inclusivity are celebrated.
