JOIN THE PHOTOGRAPHY CLASS

This is a bittersweet issue On one hand we got some amazing and striking images from our summer students. And I must admit that it was fun creating great images and memories. The silliness, the trips and the embarrassing Uno games will be put into the time capsule that is my brain. However, it is a sad moment saying good bye to out seniors who are off to their various high schools. May they be prosperous in their endeavors that I may someday be able to look upon some kind of media and see them in her glory.

THREE WAYS

Take three The rules of thirds is the process of looking for something in threes. For a great example, the photo that is directly above this paragraph. It demonstrates that even though there are two people in the photo, it provides us with main subject: The three eyes staring directly at you.

"Seeing things in threes" The project was created to give an understanding of how to use your focusing point and how to move it using the multi selector button. Students had to master to pick out their main subject out three of the same objects. Last but not least, be creative in what they shoot.

The rule of thirds describes a basic compositional structure of a photograph.

Taking any image, you can split it into 9 segments by using 3 vertical and 3 horizontal lines. The rule indicates that you should place key elements of your scene at one or more of these areas in a photo. So what was the assignment? Create a three objects photo using the understanding of the rules of thirds, mood lighting and the exposure/ exposure compensation button.

We've gotten a chance to take our annual trip to the New York Botanical Gardens. On this trip scholars were concentrating on capturing nature in it's natural light. while showing the essences of its beauty.

How does one capture nature and its beauty? How does one capture nature and its greatness? How does one capture the splendor of the various colors and tones of the humble flower?

This brings me into our annual trip towards the New York Botanical Gardens. Scholars were set with the mindset of going to the Botanical Gardens to take photos of wildlife, flowers, and to pet bees as crazy as that may sound. The standards that scholars had to master in order to get the perfect shot was first, understanding the power of close-ups. In order to pull us off, all cameras were fitted with macro-

Busy bees lenses. Macro lenses have the ability to act like magnifying glasses. Second, look for the perfect lighting. Third, look for individual flowers. You know, flowers that stand out because they’re by themselves. The last thing they learned was how to pet a bee. I’ll leave that for another article.

THE WAY OF UNDER EXPOSED PHOTOS The passion of making moody photos.

What can under expose do for you Getting the right lighting is very important, especially when it is natural light or ambient Light.

The right amount of it would make the photo have more of a moody look.

When an image is under-exposed there is not enough ambient light hitting the subject, making the photo a bit too dark. So you would have to add more light exposure to make the photo lighter. And when the photo is over-exposed there is too much light in the image meaning you should lower your exposure to make it slightly darker.

FLUTTERING IN THE BREEZES You've got to admire a species that just pays no attention to anything that goes on around them and just flutters about its business. I believe the reason why we are so enamored with the butterfly species is the colorful and vibrant splendor of those remarkable wings. These flying miracles of color are sought out by every photographer worth his weight in lenses. At the aquarium in Norfolk, Connecticut, we were thrilled to find out that there was a butterfly garden.

It wasn’t hard to persuade our young little photographers to go visit the butterfly garden. Once we got there scholars wasted no time to get their DSLR cameras out and jump in line in order to take a photo of the famous Blue Monarch butterfly.

FLIGHTS A FANCY It was interesting to see how scholars set up their compositions to take shots of the butterflies. Here are some examples of what was photographed.

Our trip to the Aquarium.

Quick! Name your favorite sea creature. What would it be?

Would it be the great white shark, perhaps an killer whale, Sea turtle or maybe a stingray.

Thank you to the Maritime aquarium in Norwalk Connecticut for hosting our field trip. It isn’t every day that you can look a Shark in the eye and not blink or see a sea turtle hover directly above your head.

A FISHY FEELING Just right off I 95 is a little place called Maritime Aquarium, where children can go and explore the vast undersea world that they never get a chance to see due to the blanket of secrets called the ocean. Here you can look at a shark's definitive size and not flinch. It is world where a person can come face to face with a sea turtle as it flows through the water as if it’s gliding on air.

You can get up close and personal with some of the most poisonous fish and not suffer any symptoms. No antibiotics needed here.

Or how about getting a chance to feed stingrays as they vacuum a small fish out of your hands. Yeah, everyone can see what a meerkat looks like face-to-face. Put that one on your list as well. This was the type of place that had all types of great things to see and learn. Our little photographers got a chance to go to the Maritime Aquarium and do some journalism photography. The task at hand was to try to get some amazing shots of not only barracudas but great whites. This required them to put their lens as closest possible to the glass of the tank. Once doing that they also were required to learn how to set their ISO in order to take photos in a dark environment. Here are some photos of what we caught.
