Covid: Pfizer says antiviral pill 89% effective in high-risk cases Pfizer continues to push for a way to eliminate the effects of COVID-19, or at least mitigate them. Since their vaccine, they've been busy developing a pill to treat the virus that Pfizer says can cut the risk of hospitalisation or death by 89% in vulnerable adults. The drug is called Paxlovid, and is intended for use after symptoms have begun to develop in people at a higher risk of disease. The United Kingdom's medicines regulator recently approved a similar treatment from Merck Sharp and Dohme (MSD).

Famine-stricken Madagascar donations pour in from 'World News Tonight' viewers After "World News Tonight" covered the ongoing climate-change induced nearfamine in Southern Madagascar, the country saw an outpour of support and donations from viewers. Extreme hunger and near-famine conditions are typically caused by war, conflict, or isolated weather events — Southern Madagacar, however, is facing these conditions due to a yearslong drough caused by climate change, according to ABC News. "World News Tonight" anchor David Muir and his team traveled to Madagascar to report on the situation, which aired Monday, and prompted more than 22,000 donors to raise more than $2.7 million through the World Food Programme.


Starbucks to boost US starting wage to $15 per hour, targeting $17 average by 2022 "Effective in late January of 2022, all U.S. partners (the company's term for employees) with two or more years of service could receive a raise of up to 5%, while partners with five or more years of service could receive a raise up to 10%."
