The star-studded musical, which delves into the untold stories of the witches of Oz, is shaping up to be one of the most glamorous events of the year, with fans eagerly awaiting its release.

The buzz around Wicked reached new heights earlier this year at CinemaCon 2024 in Las Vegas. During the Universal Pictures

and Focus Features presentation at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace on April 10, stars of the film, including Ariana Grande, stepped onto the stage to give fans a glimpse of what’s to come. Grande, who plays Glinda the Good Witch, turned heads in a chic, pastel pink ensemble by Valentino—a nod to her character's ethereal glamor. The actress and pop star is known for her signature feminine style, and her look for the event was no exception, channeling Glinda’s whimsical yet polished aesthetic.

Who’s Afraid of the Wicked Witch?

Alongside Grande was Cynthia Erivo, who plays the fierce Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West. The film, inspired by the life of legendary ping pong player and hustler Marty Reisman, offers a fictionalized narrative of his competitive rise and dramatic lifestyle. Timothée has been seen around Midtown Manhattan filming scenes amid classic cars donned in sharp suits and

glasses reminiscent of the glamor of the 1950’s Manhattan elite. The movie, which is set in 1950s New York City, Marty Supreme delves into the vibrant subculture of competitive ping pong, reflecting the midcentury era’s aesthetic and intense, quirky characters.

How Wendy Starland is taking on the Music Industry and Winning

In the elegant chambers of the United Nations, an unexpected voice reverberated through the Council for Global Change: that of Wendy Starland. Known as the woman who discovered Lady Gaga and a formidable force in the music industry, Wendy’s speech captivated world leaders and creatives alike. Her message? That music, when infused with purpose, can spark global transformation.

Wendy used the platform to promote her app in development, “Music Soul”, a project aimed at empowering independent artists by connecting them directly with fans and collaborators, cutting out industry gatekeepers. "I’ve always believed that music transcends borders," Wendy remarked during her speech. "It’s not just about entertainment—it’s about creating lasting change," She stated at a recent speech at the UN. But this is far from Wendy’s first foray into shaking up the world. On my podcast “Living a Bella Vida,” we discussed her unique ability to curate musical tal-

ent. Starland was instrumental in discovering and launching Lady Gaga’s career.

She famously scouted Lady Gaga and helped her secure deals with major industry players. Reflecting on that moment, Wendy recalls, "I knew instantly that she was special, but it wasn’t just her voice.

It was her work ethic. That’s what sets artists (like her) apart." Starland and Lady Gaga wrote songs together, developing Lady Gaga’s distinct brand before the world knew who she was.

Wendy’s influence extends well beyond Lady Gaga. She’s collaborated on numerous projects with legends like Moby, for whom she was a lead vocalist on the *Last Night* album, which soared on the Billboard charts. Her eclectic roster also includes working with Billy Ray Cyrus, the Wu-Tang Clan, and Moby. Each collaboration taught her something new: "Moby’s attention to detail is inspiring, and working with Wu-Tang was an experience that pushed my boundaries as a songwriter," she shared in a candid mo-

ment on the podcast.

Her journey from singer-songwriter to entrepreneur continues with her latest venture, “Music Soul,” her app which is designed to democratize the music industry and help musical artists earn what they deserve for their craft, talents and hard work. "Artists today need tools to thrive independently," she explains.

The evening was made even more special with a surprise appearance by Jurnee Smollett, who took the stage to share her

own insights on representation in the industry. Smollett's presence highlighted the evening's emphasis on community, solidarity, and shared goals within Women in Film’s mission.

The WIF Awards ceremony proved to be a memorable night, honoring industry leaders, champions of change, and emerging talent who continue to make strides for equality and representation in entertainment for women.

Designs that always stun at Paris Fashion Week Stella McCartney brought both allure and innovation to Paris Fashion Week for Fall and Spring 2024, making waves with sustainable fashion at its most elegant. Her shows, marked by fresh and modern designs crafted from eco-friendly materials, drew some iconic guests. In attendance were her father, Sir Paul McCartney, along with fellow Beatles legend Ringo Starr, and acclaimed actors like Natalie Portman. Each piece in the collections balanced McCartney’s hallmark commitment to sustainable luxury with high-fashion aesthetics, showcasing everything from sculptural coats to refined, cruelty-free eveningwear.

The Spring 2024 show radiated a breezy sophistication, featuring flowing silhouettes, structured jackets and dresses that echoed McCartney’s vision of “conscious luxury.” Her Fall collection followed suit with rich, earthy tones and sustainable fabrics that effortlessly melded chic with sustainability, underscoring that eco-friendly can indeed be high fashion. The attendance of cultural icons and longtime supporters underlined McCartney's growing influence in merging sustainability with style adorning fabrics with biosequins and regenerative cotton, as well as vegan leathers and artificial furs. Her iconic fashion is also avant guard using tank tops with “About Fucking Time” written on the chest in honor of her bold fashion statement when her father was finally inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame in 1999. bold statement is reborn in their Winter 2024 campaign to fight for action to not just defeat cruelty to animals and protect the Earth, but also to end Breast Cancer, which her mother, Linda, secummed to in 1998.

Taking Sustainability and Ethical Fashion Further Unlike most luxury fashion houses in that they are very transparent in showing what their ethos and mission supports in both environmental and social sustainability and measure their impact on the planet so consumers can verify their contributions to climate change. McCartney takes that one very big step further in developing circularity in fashion that is ground-breaking, including investing in fabrics that come from regenerative farming.

McCartney is reshaping luxury in ways the fashion world can no longer ignore. Her innovations also extend to using repurposed materials and advocating for second-hand shopping, setting new standards that prioritize the planet.

Not only has she disrupted the fashion industry, but also the fragrance and skincare industry, designing vegan and up to 99% natural skincare and fragrances to bring her designs to all aspects of the fashion and beauty industry.

Stella McCartney took to her mother’s heart of activism, being vocal about how to move fashion further into a sustainable future. She formally endorsed the Fashion Act Bill in New York state which aimed to set new standards in the fashion industry.

The act sets forth standards that would ensure that fashion manufacturers and brands: 1. set and achieve climate reductions in line with the Paris Agreement, 2. work with their suppliers to effectively manage their use of harmful chemicals, such as dyes and other garment additives, and 3. measurably improve the lives of workers in the garment industry. Chained by Sedona is bringing art and fashion together. The brand, founded by Sedona Legge, launched just as the pandemic hit, in 2020, but now she is designing for actors and musicians to wear her pieces.

Sedona started her career as an actor in Australia and she was cast in the movie “The Shallows” and played Blake Lively’s little sister. Right before her family moved back to the US for her movie premiere, she got a worldwide modeling contract with NEXT models. She subsequently worked as a model for Gucci on twelve modeling campaigns with celebrities like Snoop Dogg. Alessandro Michele, lead designer at Gucci, was a huge influence on Sedona’s design sense, as was design icon Tom Ford.

The result of these influences is her brand, Chained by Sedona, which fuses art with fashion by creating custom chain dresses, shirts and outfits and has been seen on red carpets modeled by Willow Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith’s daughter, and in awards shows by Lenny Kravitz.

Sedona is just getting started and her designs will now be sold at Maxfield Malibu and showcased at Neiman Marcus Beverly Hills LA Night. As her career begins to boom, Sedona reflects on her achievements and her vision for the future of the brand.

process of creating, revising, hunting for inspiration, and just having the opportunity to witness the creative process of such monumentally talented people. I had previously been exposed to Alessandro Michele’s brilliance through my work as a fashion model with Gucci. To be exposed to his magical world had value beyond words. These two very different creative directors inspired me to take a risk and try my hand at creating and I’m so grateful for that exposure. I showed my first design to my mother, and literally Chained by Sedona was born in concept that day with our partnership. It was during the height of the pandemic, so nothing happened quickly, or easily.

Erin: What was your inspiration in using mainly Metal Chains in your designs?

Sedona: Honestly, I was using chain and beads, and then chain and semi-precious stones until I was commissioned for a design for Willow for the Met Gala. This literally changed my trajectory, and I became more focused on all metal designs with specific stone accoutrements. My work for Willow was quickly followed by three designs commissioned by Rodney Burns for Lenny Kravitz. This really solidified the new direction I wanted to take in design.

Erin: It is so intriguing how you went from being an actress, to a model and then a fashion designer. Tell us about your journey in deciding to become a fashion designer.

Sedona: The desire to become a fashion designer happened very organically. I was working with Tom Ford and his team as a fit model for one of his collections and I was so impressed and intrigued by their

This really solidified the new direction I wanted to take in design.

Lenny Kravitz wore Venom for his halftime FIFA performance and for his Blue Electric Light tour. After researching, it occurred to me that there are not many women designing for men, and there should be.

Erin: How has your work with elite fashion brands and designers, like Gucci and Tom Ford, helped you in your fashion designs?

Sedona: Without that exposure, I would not have tried design. It is that simple. The gifts these designers gave me changed my life. It’s crazy where life leads you. I’m so fortunate that I was exposed to these epic designers. Just being in their orbit is so inspiring. You just never know who will touch your heart and soul and lead you on a new path.

Erin: Do you have any advice for those looking to break into the Fashion industry and create their own brand?

Sedona: Interesting question, and I’m probably not the best person to ask because

I went about it in a very unconventional way. I didn’t attend fashion design school, so I’m completely self-taught.

I think that this might have helped me to become a better problem solver, because I had no choice. I never had a concept of the “right” way to do things, which was freeing in a way. I think the main piece of advice is having perseverance. It is not an easy road and there are so many no’s along the way. We had no idea how to start a brand, so it was trial and error. Make sure you have support, a great concept, and then put in the very hard work to make it happen. When I have a deadline, I’m designing until 4:00am to get it done. Most importantly, find your mentors. People who you admire who are willing to reach down and help pull you up.

Saint Laurent: Classical Elegance for the Fall and a Twist on Spring Fashion Saint Laurent has long reigned as one of imminent Paris’ Luxury Designers. Their Spring Show was a star-studded red carpet graced by Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Moss, Zoe and Lenny Kravitz among many others. Supermodel Bella Hadid made her comeback on the runway this year at the Saint Laurent show as well.

Saint Laurent redefined luxury allure with a collection that played on the boundaries of structure and fluidity. Under the creative direction of Anthony Vaccarello, Saint Laurent’s Fall collection embraced powerful silhouettes, featuring strong shoulders and flowing trousers, combining old-world Parisian elegance with modern, refined lines.

Vaccarello introduced floor-skimming coats, plunging necklines, and a monochromatic palette that felt both nostalgic and deeply contemporary. Accessories were minimalist, with subtle chains and delicate details that let the luxurious materials speak for themselves, giving every look a sensual, empowered edge that was nothing short of Parisian chic.

Vive la France!

These French designers' collections honored Paris’s long-standing influence on fashion, with each brand bringing a unique voice to both Winter and Spring’s offerings.

Christian Dior and Saint Laurent’s strength and elegance paired with Louis Vuitton’s creativity and innovation created a narrative that feels quintessentially Parisian—a celebration of couture as both art and expression. Paris Fashion Week reaffirmed its status as the epicenter of style, where heritage and modernity dance together on the most iconic stage.

Making a difference for Homeless in DTLA

By Erin Schmidt I was fortunate enough to sit next to Joseph Bradford lll at an event a few months back, and our family became fast friends. And when we heard about his organization, I couldn’t wait to tell his story and inspire others to support it. His passion for serving others in need truly exemplifies the true spirit of the Holiday Season.

As a child, Joseph’s single mother was forced into homelessness after their home burned down and he and his siblings had nowhere to go. He saw that his mother, young as she was, did everything she could to always keep a roof over her children’s heads and food in their bellies. But she struggled to do so and they often saw others far less fortunate.

As an adult living in Los Angeles, Joseph could not look away when he saw people in need. He began by simply talking to people he saw on the streets and asking them about their story, how they became homeless and what they most needed to make life more comfortable.

“I was surprised that the most requested items were things like a broom or socks.

They wanted things that helped them keep their space clean and tidy, to make life on the streets more bearable,” he said..

Now with new laws in place in California to help clean up tent cities and move the homeless into shelters, the police and city workers are helping to relocate the homeless and remove their tents and belongings.

While this might sound cold and heartless, it is in an effort to rectify a long-standing, and growing problem that the government has turned a blind eye to for far too long across this country.

Joseph is working with the city of Los Angeles and several partners to find solutions to move people with dignity and respect;

Erin: That’s incredible. We’re so proud of the work you are doing! How and why did you get inspired to bring B.A.R.E. TRUTH to Los Angeles?

At B.A.R.E. Truth Inc., we stand committed to meeting the basic needs of our homeless community, with Skid Row as one of our primary focuses. Every week, our team provides over 500 individuals with food, hygiene supplies, and compassionate support.

Joseph: Growing up, I knew what it felt like to lose stability. At the age of twelve, our home was destroyed by fire, forcing my mother, my four younger siblings, and I into a shelter for over a year. After losing my father when I was seven, I took on the role of protector. From a young age, I witnessed struggle firsthand, and that experience became my purpose.

Beyond these essentials, we offer stability.

Our transitional homes shelter over 65 individuals, including former foster youth, families, and those reclaiming their lives from homelessness. In partnership with the city of Los Angeles, we manage two motel

Moving to California after college, I started by sharing meals with those on the streets of Hollywood. Each small act grew into something larger as I realized many wanted to help, but didn’t know how. And so, B.A.R.E. Truth Inc. was born as a way

to bring people together to create lasting change. I know how a small bit of help can turn into hope. And through this nonprofit, I hope to offer that to every person we meet.

Erin: And you certainly are offering hope! And as a result, you and your organization were recently awarded a Certificate of Recognition from the Mayor of Los Angeles. Congratulations! How did that come about?

Joseph: Thank you and our willingness to serve never wavers, no matter the circumstance. When Hurricane Hilary struck Los Angeles, we were among the first to respond, providing essential aid to our unhoused neighbors during the crisis.

We’ve organized hundreds of events to connect people to resources, pathways off the streets, and a brighter future. But to continue this work and expand it, we rely on generous donors who believe in our mission and see the difference we can make together.
