Our Mission Bellarmine, as a Catholic college preparatory school in the Jesuit tradition, through dedication to academic excellence and development of the whole person, graduates young men and women of competence, compassion and conscience, who are committed to leadership and service.
Your Impact at Bellarmine Preparatory School
Your ongoing investment provides sustainable access to a Bellarmine education for more than 45% of our students through tuition assistance. With your unwavering commitment, Bellarmine Preparatory School continues to serve students who seek a Catholic, Jesuit education from over 75 zip codes across the Puget Sound region.
Each student is accompanied, known, challenged and supported by educators who walk with them every step of the way.
Because of your generosity and partnership, Bellarmine continues to serve with apostolic audacity, shaping graduates that are prepared not only for college, but for lives of faith and service. This past year, your support directly strengthened our ability to deliver a rigorous, holistic Jesuit education. Together, we are forming young men and women who are intellectually curious, spiritually grounded and committed to the common good.
At Bellarmine, Students Don’t Just Discover Their Future — They Discern It.
Jesuit education calls us beyond the classroom. As Fr. Nadal, S.J., reminds us, “The world is our house.”
With your partnership, Bellarmine expanded real-world learning experiences that connect academic excellence with lived faith and service.
This year, benefactor support helped to:
• Expand advanced research and scholarship opportunities, allowing students to engage in inquiry often reserved for postsecondary study;
• Develop career and vocational pathways, helping students discern their call and explore how their gifts and passions can serve others;
• Increase service-based learning, grounding intellectual growth in compassion and action;
• Enhance and broaden cocurricular offerings that foster the formation of the whole student.
Alumni, benefactor, and partner engagement remains a top priority, reinforcing the strength of a community united by shared values and mission. Our alumni are living examples of Jesuit values in action—changemakers who extend Bellarmine’s impact far beyond campus. Your continued partnership ensures this legacy endures.
Faith that moves us forward, one gift at a time.
With deepest appreciation,
Dr. Kelly Goodsell

Introducing the Michael J. and Josephine C. Tucci Family Award
Bellarmine Preparatory School is proud to introduce the inaugural Michael J. and Josephine C. Tucci Family Award, a new honor recognizing a family whose service, leadership, and dedication have profoundly enriched our school community and whose lives reflect the values of our Catholic, Jesuit tradition. This award helps set the course for Bellarmine’s centennial celebration in 2028, lifting up families who embody Ignatian spirituality and the call of magis—to strive not only to do more, but to be more.
Bellarmine is deeply grateful to the Tucci family for establishing this award and for their willingness to honor the remarkable legacy of Michael J. Tucci B’30 and his wife, Josephine C. Tucci A’33. Longtime residents of Tacoma, Michael and Josephine devoted their lives to faith, family, community service, and steadfast support of Bellarmine and Gonzaga. Michael Tucci, recipient of the Saint Robert Bellarmine Award—the highest honor bestowed by the school—was an accomplished athlete, businessman, coach, and civic leader whose influence extended across numerous organizations and initiatives. Together, Michael and Josephine raised five children while remaining deeply committed to their parish, their community and Jesuit education.
The award is named in their honor through the generosity of their eldest son, Mike A. Tucci B’57, and his family. Mike and his wife, Mary Jo, shared 57 years of marriage and raised three children— all Bellarmine graduates—who continue the family’s strong connection to the school. Mike took over his father’s business at a young age and, through faith, perseverance and vision, grew it into a source of opportunity for many across the region. Today, the next generation of the Tucci family continues this legacy of leadership, service and commitment.
Still active at Bellarmine, the Tucci family supports the school through overseeing the Bellarmine Trust, campus master planning, investment advising, fundraising efforts, and ongoing service that helps shape a future rooted in mission and purpose.
It is Bellarmine’s hope that this new award will inspire future families to lead with faith, serve with generosity and help Bellarmine continue to thrive for generations to come.

Honoring the Boulanger and O’Brien Families
Recipients of the Michael J. and Josephine C. Tucci Family Award
With great admiration and gratitude, Bellarmine honors the Boulanger and O’Brien families as recipients of the inaugural Michael J. and Josephine C. Tucci Family Award. Their collective legacy of faith, service and leadership has profoundly shaped Bellarmine, the greater Tacoma community and Catholic education throughout our region.
The roots of the Boulanger and O’Brien family legacy run deep, beginning with Ferdinand and Margaret Boulanger, whose devotion to faith and family set a powerful example for future generations.
Dick and Mary Ann Boulanger continued this legacy with a steadfast belief in the transformative power of Catholic education and family. As founding members of St. Charles

Borromeo Church and School, and as early pioneers of the Pierce County Association of Catholic Educators (PACE) program, they helped lay the foundation for opportunities that continue to benefit countless families. Their leadership and generosity have extended across the Archdiocese of Seattle, including ongoing support of the Office for Catholic Schools, the Fulcrum Foundation and other vital Catholic institutions.
At Bellarmine, the Boulanger and O’Brien families have faithfully accompanied the school through both challenging and celebratory seasons. Their service spans decades and includes leadership on the Board of Directors, Bellarmine Benefactors Trust, campaigns, support through Boosters and Philomathea, and countless roles as chairs, coaches, mentors, advisors and ambassadors. These contributions—offered with humility, vision and consistency—continue to shape the mission and future of Bellarmine.
The inaugural Michael J. and Josephine C. Tucci Family Award was presented to the Boulanger and O’Brien families at the President’s Evening of Thanks on November 20, 2025.
Today, multiple generations of the Boulanger and O’Brien families remain actively engaged at Bellarmine, carrying forward a tradition grounded in Jesuit values and a shared belief that every lion deserves educational excellence. This award represents all families, past and future, who serve to animate and reinforce our school’s mission. Bellarmine is privileged to honor Dick and Mary Ann, Theresa and Dan, Jim and Donna, Martha and Joe, Margie and Gavin, all of their children, and their children’s children. A Reflection on Our Jesuit Legacy
By Cindy Davis, Principal, Bellarmine Preparatory School
The Jesuit influence in Tacoma and throughout our region began in 1928, when Fr. David McAstocker, S.J. opened the doors of Bellarmine Preparatory School to 150 young men. Inspired by St. Ignatius of Loyola and his passion for education, Fr. McAstocker planted the seeds of what would become a vibrant Jesuit educational community. Nearly 100 years later, Bellarmine now serves approximately 900 students from more than 75 zip codes, reflecting the rich diversity of Tacoma and Pierce County.
As a coeducational Catholic, Jesuit school, Bellarmine is committed to providing an education rooted in faith, service and academic excellence to all who seek formation in these values. While I can only imagine what St. Ignatius and Fr. McAstocker might say about Bellarmine today, I am certain they would be proud. Their early work laid a foundation that empowered both Jesuits and lay educators to carry forward the mission of Jesuit education with fidelity and purpose.
Jesuit leadership continues to shape who we are. As a global network of schools, Bellarmine has been influenced by Jesuits from around the world, including Pope Francis, the first Jesuit pope. His call to align our decisions with Ignatian values and to foster a culture of encounter has challenged Jesuit schools everywhere to reflect deeply on their mission. Fr. Arturo Sosa, S.J., the current Superior General of the Society of Jesus, has further encouraged Jesuit educators to emphasize discernment, innovation, and collaboration—principles that point us toward reconciliation and justice.
Over the years, Bellarmine has been richly blessed by the presence of Jesuits on our campus who lived these values daily. Leaders such as Fr. Dan Weber, S.J., a pioneer in Jesuit education, guided Bellarmine through transformative times following the merger of Bellarmine, Aquinas Academy and St. Leo High School that created one of the first coeducational Jesuit schools in the nation. His leadership embodied magis— for more in service of others.

Cindy Davis and Fr. Jerry
Bellarmine Jesuit Community
Our alumni Jesuits, including Fr. John Fuchs B’60, S.J., and Fr. Pete Henriot B’54, S.J., returned to Bellarmine to serve and inspire. Fr. Pete’s lifelong commitment to social justice and Fr. John’s humble embodiment of “men and women for others” continue to resonate within our community. Jesuits such as Fr. Fred Mayovsky, S.J., and Fr. Jerry Chapdelaine, S.J., lived cura personalis through personal connection, mentorship and care for each student as a whole person.
While our Jesuit presence on campus looks different today, the mission remains strong. Under the leadership of Fr. Greg Celio, S.J., our Superior, our Adult Formation program ensures that Ignatian spirituality continues to guide our community. I believe that St. Ignatius and Fr. McAstocker would be proud of how Bellarmine continues to search for and find God in all things.
