Many of us here have roamed the same school grounds, sat in the same classrooms, and have been educated by the same teachers that our ancestors (or present day relatives) once did.

"'I think it's pretty cool

when a teacher recognizes my last name, and asks me if I'm related to my brothers, or even my dad," said Junior Jorge Portuondo. In contrast, some may have different opinions about seeing their brothers in the halls, at practice, and at home.

Where are you from?

Wo ever said that our school was a Cuban school only?

Well, whoever said that did not know the student body of our school. There are students from very diverse and rare backgrounds in every classroom. Students range from second generation American to first generation Chinese, two countries that are halfway around the world from each other. We have kids that are descendants from Africa, Germany, Russia, and many Latin American countries including Colombia, Mexico and Pem. The diversity in our school is extraordinary, making it a melting pot of young men from different areas around the world.

"I am very proud of how our school has grown more diverse over the years," said Senior Arnulfo Izquierdo.

The brass section of the Jazz Band plays in the dedication ceremony early in the year. The ceremony celebrated the dedication of the main building to Mr. Miguel Fernandez and his family.

Before last year the band performed mostly in the school gym for the student body. Last year the band started off with much higher expectations, hoping to compete in tournaments and even tour throughout Europe. There were two groups that made up the Concert Band, which consisted of about one hundred students. One of these groups was the Jazz Band, which was made up of experienced players that had been playing instruments for at

least one year. The other group, which made up the majority of the Concert Band, consisted of new students who were just beginning to play instruments.

These students practiced vigorously, trained everyday with private teachers and at least once a week with the entire band. "The greatest accomplishment is training some of these students to play so well," commented band director Ms. Marlene Urbay. "Many of them have never held an instrument before."

The drumline sets a cadence for the rest of the instrumentalists. The drummers used these performances for practice to later compete against other bands.

Student addictions range from using an Ipod to drinking caffeine to make it through the school day. Many students spent coundess hours satisfying these addictions.

01 ] need to go to the gym; looking good is a necessity," said Senior Alejandro Jerez. Last year be spent about one hour and a half each day at the gym trying to get more muscular.

Many students also gathered on weekends to hold poker tournaments, where they spent coundess hours playing cards with their friends. One of the newer and most expensive addictions out there was the lpod. A long drive to school without an lpod could be a ve.ry difficult one.

Lunch last year went through many changes. There was an additional line to wait in before getting your food. Most kids hated the lines at first, but as time went by they

have them because it actually reduced traffic in the lunchroom which made getting an easier task for everyone. The Vincam Dining room was also transformed and added to the original lunch room to create more space for students.

Lunch was the best time of the day because it was the only time you could sit with all your friends and talk about whatever you wanted. It was a time where kids could ultimately just be themselves.

"My Band is my life," said tenth grader Andres Gaviria. Gaviria is currently in a five person band consisting of three boys and two girls. All the members of the band are sophomores and musically inclined which gives Gaviria a great chance of getting noticed.

"We practice twice a week and record once a week," said Gaviria. The type of music played by his band is a type of rock that Andres likes to call 'Jazzy Punk'.

There are three guitars in the band and Gaviria plays one

of them. Currently, the band is practicing at the drummer's bouse in the living room every week in order to get in as much practice as possible.

The leader of the band is Cara Mcartbey and the lead singer is Isabel Ramos. They have been in the band for three years and created a very serious environment for music.

"We plan on getting signed to a major record label in the future, and hopefully be playing in Warped Tour, very soon," concluded Gaviria.

Meet seventh grader

Christian Padron, the drummer in his band called "Jetblack." Padron has played the drums for two years and loved every minute of it. Initially, he tried to play guitar, but soon found that his true passion was playing the drums. He practiced every day at home, and even brought his own drumsticks to school so he could play whenever he got a chance. "I like drums because it's what holds together the band's

rhythm," said Padron. The band practiced regularly and played a few gigs at local restaurants. He also started playing guitar again in hopes of mastering it as well. Piano and bass were also two other instruments that he planned to learn and hopefully one day master. The other members in his band include seventh graders Francisco Villafane and Steven Vega. Their band was successful in drawing crowds at local shows.

In Sagua la Grande, Cuba, in the year 1939

No, I attended the Jesuit elementary school in my town, and then a public school. I then studied medicine in Havana, and joined the ACU. All in all, the Jesuits were what inspired me.

In 1961. I wanted to serve Jesus, I was a lay teacher. The Jesuits were prominent in my hometown.

Enrollment has increased dramatically and many additions have been made to academics. The middle school was originally seventh through ninth grade, but we added sixth grade in order to follow Dade County Public School System.

I feel realized as a person, a religious man, and a priest. Also the fact that there is so i:nuch diversity within my job.

The thought of serving others was most appealing to me, and greatly influenced me.

There were seven hundred students.

Fostering and creating a community of students, teachers, alumni, and parents. One of our greatest treasures is Belen's faculty.

N o.-mineetJ,

Armando Mendez devoted much of his time to a major project in which he donated and shtpped over 10,000 books to Honduran children who could not afford them.

Matthew Jordan started a partnership between our school and the Special Olympics in which our tennis courts will be used to train special olympians.

There isn't much known about Mr. German Delgado except that he is a pre!tf quiet, and very private tndividual. Mr. Delgado is not only a computer science teacher and member of the Tech team, but he is also the offensive coordinator for the V arsicy Football team. Mi. Delgado has been a football coach for twelve years. He has coached two years of Junior Hig!l, two years of Junior Varsity and eight years of Varsity. Not only does Mr. Delgado coach Varsigr, but be also played for the Belen Varstty Team as the starting quarterback during his JUnior and senior years tnl988 and 1989.

"I am _proud of the football team's accomplishments on the football field, but I am even mote proud of the accomplishments offthefield. When we have players that to P-lay at colleges like Harvara, Princeton, Yale, Dartmouth, Columbia and Northwestern it makes rou feel like you have made a difference in their lives," said Mr. Delgado.

Hamenco dancing is an art that only the skilled and disciplined can learn to perfect. Mrs. Marisol Sosa was once a professional flamenco dancer and still practices the dance frequently on her personal time. This fact was unknown and surprising to most of the students in her tenth grade English class.

Mrs. Sosa was introduced to the dance at the age of 18 by her mother. Years later she performed on showcases such as MTV Latino and dance theaters. Even after she became a teacher, she still fueled her passion by giving dance lessons to fellow teachers and young people who were interested.

As a mother and wife, Mrs. Sosa believed in introducing her family to the art of dance because it would involve good values such as discipline and teamwork. "Never underestimate the power of a positive attitude," said Mrs. Sosa. Academics

Out there somewhere in the Everglades, you could find Mr. Vega working as a counselor at the Miccosukee Inaian School.

During his two and a half year sojourn between 1993 and 1995 wtth the tribal people, Mr. Vega had to learn how to deal with the tribe's society. He learned that the Miccosukee Reservation is a separate country with its own rules and that to work with students; he had to work with their uncles because uncles are supposed to take care of their sibling's kids.

During his counseling years in the reservation, M r . Vega learned many i n t e r e s t i n g things about the Miccosukee. For example, he had to communicate through a second party because he was not an official member of any clan. He also learned that all profit from casinos or services was distributed equally among all tribe members. One other thing he learned was that tribes people could be extremely stu6born.

In his counseling at the school, Mr. Vega was called "Sam" because Native Americans don't have a second name. "The Miccosukee approach education in a different manner than the rest of society. So it was difficult to adapt to that situation in the beginning," said Mr. Vega.

Most people cringe at the very thought of getting on a stage and speaking in front of large crowds, but not Mr. Leopoldo Nunez. His love for the stage , began with his first role as Biondello in Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew when he was fourteen years old. Mr. Nunez became hooked to the wonderful sensation that can only come from an audience's applause.

"The moments become quite literally out of this world. You study, you learn, you create, you become and... you try hard to give an audience your best in whichever genre," said Mr. Nunez.

For someone who speaks so eloquently and so easily, few would have ever guessed that he actually had problems with shyness and insecurities when he was younger.

However, over time, Leopoldo was able to overcome his fears and his love for the theatre was able to flourish. He said, "with lots of preparation, hard work and a bit of luck, your audience will respond positively to your performance."

Not only an ei2hth math teacher but also a scrapbooK.er Mrs. Teresita Campos has been working in Belen for 19 years.

Her _greatest passion outside of the school 6esides time "With her fami\y is scrap po9King•. She became mterested m tt dunng the 15's cruise of her youngest daughter Lauren and saw an album of Lauren's friends and loved it. "At the completion ofmy:first album, the realization of the enjoYD).ent of this hobby led me to the creation of many more albums," said Mrs. Campos. She started to scrapbook the rest of Lauren's hiQb school years ana has been scrap booking ever since.

Throughout the years, this entertallllng hobby has to serve as a two:Jold purpose: anenjoyablepasttime as well as a method of releasing any of the unnecessary stresses of the day. "As I would work on a page, I became so attuned "With the event, that I felt disconnected from any worries," said Mrs. Campos.

Most students would think that the only things teachers do outside tlie school walls is grade eat, and sleep they return back to school. This concept, sadly, is way off For instance, Spanish teacher Mr. Juan Vasquez enjoyed the hobby of photogra.PhY on his free ttme away from school. Mr. Vasquez enjoys taking _pictures of everythtng from ancient architecture in old S.Panish cities, to hts two daughters of one and three years old and his recently hom son.

Mr. first started taking .Pictures as a hobby tn 2000, a year after entering the teaching staff at Belen. Since then, hetookhis camera to almost every place he traveled. The pictures he has taken range from monuments to nature to people, trying to capture tlie essence of eve!)'Where he goes. Mr. Vasquez's hobby goes perfectly with his good character and values. "I live my life trying never to put a question mark where God puts a period," said Mr. Vazquez.

He is not only a P.E. coach, but he's also a sports fanatic. Coach Eduardo Fraga, who has been at Belen for twenty five years, loves teaching his Freshman students about health, physical fitness and . . exerctstng.

Those who know Coach Fraga know that he is an avid football fanatic. He tries to catch the games on TV and keep up with his favorite teams.

His other passion is his family. "I like spending time with my kids and playing sports with them so that they can stay healthy, and it's also enjoyable," said Fraga. Incorporating his two passions togather, Coach Fraga manages to stay fit and healthy.

Mrs. Fenton has been a "biker chick" or more like a "biker hen" for the past 6 years, since her husband (the one who likes bikes) got his Honda Shadow. He's liked bikes for a long time and never had one. "I would have to say my husband's true passion is bikes, whereas my true passion is biology and all the living things around us, especially plants," said Mrs. Fenton. They usually ride together on the weekends to go out to breakfast or lunch, which usually entails a ride to the Grove or to Key Biscayne.

"Riding a bike is not at all like Biology, but being on the bike gives me the opportunity to appreciate all the wondrous living things around me," said Mrs. Fenton. If she could stop teaching she would not be a "full time biker," but she would indeed keep riding. If time allowed for it, she would probably spend more time outdoors enjoying the world of plants.

She has also always wanted to get a PhD in Botany, specializing in tropical drift seeds (sea beans), which is another passion of hers.

Senior Nicholas Herrera hits the hole picking up seven yards against Monsignor Pace. Herrera was the starting halfback, but also played defense.

Free safety senior Anthony Diblasi swats a ball against Archbishop Curley.

Free safety sen ior Anthony Diblasi was the team captain, a great student, and last but not least a great football player. Diblasi was not the most outspoken character on the team, but his actions spoke louder than words.

"I let my hard work speak for me", said Diblasi. Diblasi's hard work was evident in his gameplay. He started every game since his sophomore season, resulting in a district championship that year. Diblasi was a great leader and helped to improve all the play:ers around him.

Diblasi's senior season ended with a 74 record, which led the Wolverines to their eighth playoff appearance in nine years. It was not the best record but still a major accomplishment.

The season was full of ups and downs. "The

Cardinal Newman game was the hardest loss to swallow, we just didn't come out to play that night" said Diblasi.

The team had many bright spots. They added a new passing offense, throwing for more in 2007 than in 2005 and 2006 combined.

Seniors Christopher Henry and Michael Rios made this new prolific offense click with ease. Despite pre-season criticism, the offensive line performed above average allowing the Wolverines to be ranked the best offense in Miami-Dade county.

Belen football in 2007 was not only about the wins and losses. It was about the bonds you make with your teamates. "Belen football is rich in tradition and I am so proud of what my teammates have accomplished", said senior Arnulfo Izquierdo.

The team leadership was provided by returning starting quarterback Sophomore Edward Franca. The defense, led by Sophomores Carlos Garcia-Velez and Jose Moreiras was a dominant force to reckon with and had two shutouts in the season.

Junior High football began its :first season in the South Horida Middle School Football League Southern Conference. The Wolverines faced many tough competitors in their conference. Last year was Coach David Hernandez's second season as a head coach. Once again he led the Junior High Wolverines to a successful winning season in which they placed third in the conference and division rwmer-ups.

The Wolverines' toughest competitors were American Heritage and Gulliver. They suffered a heart breaking loss to American Heritage by a mere point. But the blue and gold came back to

beat Gulliver twelve to eight with a fourth quarter goal line stop.

Leading the team in passing was Daniel Admire who was the team captain. Fullback Francisco Hernandez led the team in rushing yards and touchdowns and also helped out on the defensive side of the ball playing linebacker. Defensive captain Nicholas Stula led the team in tackles.

The Junior High team finished their season with a bowl game versus the second place team in the other division playing for third place in the conference, improving their record to 6-2.

Freshman basketball had a very successful season ending with a record of 9-2.

The team was led by leading scorer Jordan Blecher, floor leader Edmond Benedetti and best defender Daniel Rincon. Mr. Jorge Martinez entered his third consecutive season as head coach of the team.

"I think this particular team was very spirited. Against Pace, for example, the team was in a slump but stayed in it with their spirits high/' said Coach Martinez.

Pace was just one of two big wins for the team. Being down by eight points going into to the fourth quarter against Pace and North Broward, the team demonstrated fortitude and emerged victorious.

Although the team lost to St. Thomas Aquinas and once to North Broward, the basketball team never quit and always stayed focused.

"We'll never forget this season," said Freshman Nicolas White.

For the second time in school history, the N basketball team went undefeated with a record of 19-0. The Leading scorer was Sophomore Reggie Colas, with an average of 21.6 points a game and a total of 411 points.

Other outstanding players who played a huge part in completing the season with a perfect record were Sophomores Sergio Femandez-Soto, Arturo Martinez, Freddy Latour and Freshman Manny Sicre.

Many of the players were moved up to varsity towards the end

of the season due to their amazing performance on the N court.

"This team has it all. It has leadership, impressive skills, and discipline. I couldn't ask for anything more," said Head Coach Ruben Marrero.

The N Wolverines defeated Ransom Everglades which was the last challenge of the perfect season.

"Throughout a tough season we pulled together as a team and ended with an undefeated season," said forward Sophmore Jason Fernandez.

For the past couple of years the Junior High Gold basketball team has had a reputation of being able to accomplish great things, amongst those things 'perfection'. These kids had big shoes to fill and people to impress, and they did just that.

A very tough schedule did not stop them from having over 25 wins and only four losses. Two out of the team's four losses were in overtime.

The team's offense managed to put up an impressive average of 4 5 points per game. One

of the greatest victories was in the Palmer Trinity tournament against rival Ransom Everglades when the Wolverines came back from a twelve point deficit late in the third quarter and managed to pull through with a win.

This was the third year in a row that head coach Alex Zequeira wins the Palmer Trinity tournament.

"The best offense is a good defense". This cliche is often used in sports. This quote was probably the best description of our Junior Varsity soccer team.

With a final record of seven wins, two ties, and two loses, it is safe to say that the team faired quite well.

"I think our defense was the key component of our triumph," said captain and defender Sophomore Diego Costa.

After all, their impenetrable defense is what allowed their offense to gain the freedom to counter attack and score. In a sense, their defense was truly their means of victory.

In the end, it was the team's unity and ability to play as one that paved their path to a winning record. Their success will hopefully · translate to more victories at the Varsity level.

Most people think CLC is just a club that meets every Tuesday and the reason we have a special schedule that day. CLC is an acronym that stands for Christian Life Community. The Christian Life Community is actually an international association whose origin is in Rome.

When the CLC meets on Tuesday, they get together in groups and reflect on their lives. The groups are close to each other and can easily relate with one another. "I have been in CLC for a while and I like being a member I have developed relationships with people I never imagined," said Sophomore Andres Gaviria. Mr. George Porta, who is one of the newest member of CLC, said "It is a very rewarding experience being able to communicate and pray with the members".

CLC can trace its roots to St. Ignatius of Loyola founder of the Society of Jesus. Following the example of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the CLC provides community service such as the Thanksgviing Food Drive. Theology Department Chairperson, Dr. Josefina Chirino, is the head of CLC and has worked very hard to make it what it is today.

Mrs. Ana Fenton leads a discussion of her CLC group including Sophomores Andres Gaviria and Gabriel Alvarez. Ms. Fenton felt very proud of participating in CLC.

On their 25th anniversary of the Belen Youth Missions, students, faculty and parents went on a ten day trip with the same expectations they always had, to help improve living conditions in the Dominican Republic. As the mission grew over the past years, so did the number of members. From parents and teachers to students and alumni. During their trip to the island of the Dominican Republic, the Youth Missions helped care for the villagers in hospitals, whether through surgery or regular appointments. They also helped to build a bridge connecting two neighboring villages. The volunteers enjoyed the charitable work they were doing and surely will continue this mission for the years to come.

Senior Robert Hildreth, who grew up in the Dominican Republic and witnessed first hand the misfortunes of the poor day to day, went to help on the mission. "To me, there isn't a greater sense of satisfaction than putting a sniile on someone's face," said Hildreth.

Belen alumn Christopher Formoso helps in the hospital by checking a patient's blood pressure. Many of the volunteers chose to work in the hospitals with the local people.

Close Up is a program where Juniors and Seniors get the chance to view their government in action for one full week. During the trip, two of our students shared a room with two students from another school in a different state.

"My roommates were great. I really got to see life in a different perspective and I got to learn a lot about New Orleans," said Junior Jorge Portuondo.

The idea of rooming with other students is to get a feel for college life and to learn about the ideals of people from various parts of the country. Each day began with a workshop followed by tours of the city and its numerous memorials.

"The memorials and tours were great but I'd have to say the best part was debating my views with other students on Capitol Hill Day/' said Junior Rene Gomez. That day, the students met with Members of Congress such as, representative Mrs. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen. The students had an opportunity to ask questions and see their government in action up close.

"I'll never forget this trip. The people I met, the places I saw, the knowledge I acquired were just some of the things I'll carry in my memory for the rest of my life," added Junior Juan Arellano.

The Junior class gathers in front of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Many of the visiting students claimed that this was one of their favorite stops throughout their trip to D.C.

To start off their middle school careers, sixth graders were welcomed to the school with the annual Mini-Olympics. Sixth graders spent a fun-filled day with parents going head-to-head, homeroom versus homeroom, with activities like dodge ball, relay races, and basketball.

As always, the day started with a mass celebrated by Father Frank Permuy, S.J Mter mass, students and parents were treated to a delicious breakfast to receive the required energy for the day's forthcoming tomfoolery. Mter breakfast, students went outside to the central patio to meet with their respective homerooms to get pumped up. Mr. Charles Curry, decked out in his Greek god apparel, presided as the master of ceremonies and gave the order to "let the games begin!"

"My favorite part was the trojan horse and the games," said sixth grader Michael Palacio.

Mter an exciting morning filled with lots of competitions, awards were handed out to the victorious teams. After lunch, Sports Authority and Best Buy gift cards, along with other goodies, were raffled off. Grandparents' Day last year was filled with lots of fun for both the parents and the seventh graders who participated. Upon arriving at the school, grandparents and grandchildren were treated to pastelitos, croquetas, cafe con leche, and many other culinary necessities.

Mter a hardy breakfast, they broke up into groups and went on to participate in the many planned activities. Of course, no gathering of more than three grandparents can be complete without a rousing game of dominoes.

As the day progressed, the grandparents and their seventh grade grandchildren also played several rounds of bingo. Seventh grader Juan Aguila said "I enjoyed dominoes and spending time with my friends." Once bingo was out of the way, the abuelos were given a complete tour of the campus led by math teacher Mr. Juan Luis Flores who recounted the history behind our school to the grandparents and grandchildren.

Father and Son Day proved to be another succesful event for the eighth grade class. From basketball to flag football to ping pong and tennis, fathers and sons alike enjoyed a day of bonding and competition.

To begin the day, the families celebrated mass with Father Frank Permuy, SJ. After mass, the fathers and sons went to begin a day of fun filled activities. Lunch was then served and allowed a moment of relaxation and a chance for the families to interact with each other.

During the day, fathers and their sons not only enjoyed games and food, but also a time to get closer to each other. Eighth grader Daniel Rojo said "I really enjoyed being able to spend time and bond with my father." They also allowed for a chance to get closer as a community between families and friends. Mother and Son Day presented a chance for tenth graders to bond with their mothers. The event filled day began with a mass that included a heart-warming sermon by Father Pedro Cartaya. Then, came the warm, delicious breakfast provided by the cafeteria staff. After that, the group headed over to the lgnatian Center. There, they saw a skit put together by several moms who imitated the students and their daily rituals while poking fun at them. When commenting on why he enjoyed it, sophomore Julian Ochoa said, "I enjoyed it because I spent quality time with my mom and had fun while doing it". The day ended with salsa lessons for all. In the end, mother and son day was quite an unforgetable experience for both the mothers and their sons.

Of all the fundraisers held through the year, Tombola, the school's annual spring festival, was by far the most attended. With rides, games, and food

ten in the morning to midnight, students, teachers and parents worked tirelessly to bring fun, games, and food to camival-goers. Some particularly popular booths from all around the world, it included Rock Band, Pan con provided something for anyone Lech6n, and Guitar Hero 3. and everyone.

Held from February 2 2nd to February 24th, the fun was kicked off by a Mexican Fiesta, a south of the border-themed dinner for parents, teachers, alumni and other members of the Belen community with delicious catering provided by the popular food chain Qdoba Mexican Grill.

Sunday also proved to be an exciting day at the Tombola with performances by the jazz band, Music Appreciation Society, and the cast of A Funny lbing Happened On the Way to the Forum.

Generating an approximate gross revenue of $403,000, Tombola helped raise money for Saturday marked the grand financial aid-benefitting one out opening of the festival. From of seven students.

For many years now it has been a tradition in Belen to have a Pin Ceremony for the eighth graders. It is said to be as important as receiving the ring as a senior. The Pin Ceremony symbolizes the passage of an eighth grader from middle school to high school.

Last year, the ceremony started with the parents and student walking down the middle aisle of the gym. There, both parents and students celebrated their sons' achievement with a mass. The pins were brought in later on during the offertory and blessed by President and Principal Father Marcelino Garcia S.J.. Father Marcelino later distributed the pins to each student as their homeroom teachers looked on.

Once the ceremony was over, the students and family members were invited to a post celebration in the cafeteria.

"I thought it was a great ceremony and especially knowing that my family was here supporting me in my journey to high school," said eighth grader Mathew Espinosa.

Christopher Diaz presents the pins during the ceremony to Father Marcelino Garcia SJ. The pins were a symbol of the eighth graders' transition into high school.

Who said being in eighth grade was a bad thing? Eighth graders enjoyed their special dance which took place in the school cafeteria on Saturday, May 3. The dance began promptly at 8 pm and went through 11:3 0 pm.

The cafeteria became a beautiful ballroom and the magical night began on a positive note. The place was decorated by eighth grade parents who put a great deal of effort into making the night a memorable one for their sons.

"I could not recognize my own cafeteria! It was so different," said eighth grader Jordan Fernandez.

Eighth grade teachers also helped to make this night a memorable one for the soon- to-be high school students. Teachers such as Ms. Dolores Toledo, Mrs. Anette Anton and Mr. Jorge Munoz-Bustamante were on hand to chaperone the kids and make sure that they had a good time.

The students enjoyed a night with their dates that included 'dance offs and mosh pits'. This dance provided them with an opportunity to socially interact with their peers as well as their dates.

"I haven't had that much fun in years. I danced the night away," said eighth grader Nicholas Moreiras.

Junior Prom was a definite night to remember. It was held on Saturday, April 26th at the Hyatt hotel in Downtown Miami.

Last year's theme was the "Hot Tropics". With tropical decorations all around the ball room including bamboo centerpieces and inflatable palm trees, the Junior class had their own tropical paradise for the night.

"The decorations were really cool. I really felt like I was in the tropics," said Junior Javier Sosa.

At around eight thirty the couples started to arrive and welcoming them was Father Guillermo Garcia-Tufton, S.J. and a select number of junior teachers. Following their arrival, the couples got to enjoy a gourmet

w.tlAf

meal.

"The real party began as soon as we finished eating and the music started playing," said Junior Luis Wulff.

The Juniors danced the night away to all sorts of music played by a dj. There was a great variety of music that ranged from Homecoming by Kanye West all the way to Don-'t stop believing by Journey.

"The music was fire," said Junior Victor Padilla who attended the Junior Prom with Carolina Sirven from Lourdes Academy.

The Junior Prom was a complete success, thanks to the parents and teachers of the Junior class. The students had a night that they will never forget.

Juniors Joel Diaz-Fong, Robert Prego and James Perez-Sanchez make a toast with their dates. "Prom was definitely the highlight of my year," said Prego.

On a warm April evening, seniors made their way to the beautiful Miami Beach Spa Resort for one of the most memorable dances of their high school years: the Senior Prom.

The class of 2008 along with their dates entered the Mediterranean East room as the DJ played the theme from The Godfather, the 197 2 movie based on Mario Puzo' s novel with the same name.

The tables were decorated in The Godfather theme with white candles, chocolate cigars, and classic quotes from the movie.

First, the seniors and their dates enjoyed hors

d'oeuvre while a pianist played classical music. Here they were given a chance to meet up with friends and take pictures with their dates.

The sentors then enjoyed dinner as the senior movie was played in the background. After dinner, they moved to the dance floor where the party continued until the early morning hours.

Prom was a great success and will last in the memories of most forever.

"I really enjoyed prom, but even more I enjoyed spending time with my friends," said Senior Santiago Rubio.

Senior Christopher Baran and his date wait in line to take pictures. The pictures were provided by Foxmar so that seniors would be able to remember their prom.
As the dance floor gets packed with seniors partying one last time at the Miami Beach Resort and Spa, they had a chance to make yet another memory with their peers. Most of the senior class attended the event which made it a great success.
Senior Peter Arriola gets lifted above everyone on the dance floor. "I was in the air!" exclaimed Arriola as he was lowered to the floor.
Seniors and their dates wait at the reception while everyone arrives. The reception was also decorated in the Godfather theme, with a pianist playing classical music.

Every year, the senior class is given a list of activities that will be completed by the year's end. This list includes prom, GradNite, and the Senior-Parent Banquet. However, the most important event on the calendar is the one that is least recognized. It is the one event that brings seniors together one last time as a class to be one with God.

The Baccalaureate mass is essentially the mass for the seniors and their families before the students all go their separate ways for college. Last year's mass was held at Saint Kevin's Catholic Church.

The senior class had family and friends fill the church to the point that many people were forced to stand. The community watched as the seniors walked in with their mothers.

For many seniors, it was a great experience. It was a chance to share a memory with their mothers before they moved away for the first time.

"The mass was an opportunity to honor, in my opinion, largest source of support: our mothers," said Senior Alejandro Jerez.

At the mass, the students were allowed an opportunity to say thank you to those that meant the most to them: their mothers, their families and God.

April 25, 2008 will not be one the class of 2008 will soon forget. The seniors congregated at the school's main entrance at 12:30 to prepare to board the four buses chartered to transport them to The Magic Kingdom.

Once they were on the bus, the seniors got to view movies and hang out. The films, accompanied by napping, helped ease the six hour trek to Walt Disney's famous theme park. Once there, the seniors were unleashed upon Disney, free to roam the park and experience every niche the Magic Kingdom had to offer.

In addition to the rides and attractions of the park, Disney hired several performers to entertain the several thousand seniors present at Grad Nite 2008. The Last Goodnight, Cheskob and Red Jumpsuit Apparatus were the opening acts and led up to the night's headlining artist, Ne-Yo.

In addition to these performers, Disney surprised all the seniors with several performances by winners of MTV's competition America's Best Dance Crew, the JabbawockeeZ. Additionally, several tents were set up throughout the park featuring numerous disc jockeys spinning various genres of music.

The night came to an end with a spectacular fireworks display dedicated to the Class of 2008. Grad Nite gave seniors a proper and very well deserved celebration to commemorate the conclusion of their high school careers.

GradNite was held at Magic Kingdom in Orlando, Florida. Students were able to go on any ride and attend several musical performances.

My dear Son, time goes by so fast. Almost without noticing you grew up into a fine, young man, of good moral character, profound thought, analytical, responsible, and with a loving and caring heart. I loved you even before you were born, and I am very proud of you! I know that your grandpa has been watching you from above, and is very proud of you, as is the rest of the family.

Soon you will be starting a new stage in your life, the one of becoming an "adult" with all the additional responsibilities this stage entails. I pray that you allow God to continue to be a part of your life always, to protect you and guide you throughout this new stage and beyond.

Please continue being the way you are, and putting forth 100% of your effort into everything you do. Be proud of your accomplishments!

On the evening you were born, your dad was nervous, your abuela excited and I could only stare at you. I do not think anyone knew what I was thinking. I was scared and wondering if we could be the parents that you deserved. There was no magic formula. We had to wing it. With time we realized that although would make mistakes you would forgive us, the deep and unequivocal love we had for you.

We do not know if we met your expectations but we do know that you exceeded ours. We did not want to raise you just for us; we wanted to raise you for the world. Your love and respect for all living things, your standards, faith, trust in God and life makes you an exceptional son, grandson, brother, friend, and someday husband and father.
