For us, the students of Belen, MEMOIR is more than a recounting in words and pictures of the events of the academic year 1965-1966. It is also an embodiment of an era in the existence of these students- an era that is a to the responsibilities of the forthcoming years - an era in which the individual purpose is nurtured.
BELEN
We dedicate Memoir '66 in deep gratitude and appreciatiOn to His Excellency Coleman F. Carroll, D .D., Bishop of Miami, whose efforts on behalf of the Diocese and its Spanish speaking community have enriched it in all fields of social and spiritual endeavor.
FATHER RECTOR'S MESSAGE
It has been the privilege of the faculty of Belen Jesuit Preparatory School to have spent yet another year shaping loyal sons of God and country. We have been able to continue the glorious tradition of the school -a school that has carried out the mission of spreading and consolidating the kingdom of Christ for 112 years.
In this, our fifth year in Miami, we have been able to improve our classroom and laboratory facilities, due- to our generous benefactors and the parents of our students, who consider Belen their own. Thanks to the fine efforts of our boys, we have achieved city-wide recognition in sports as well as in other fields.
We thank God we are able to continue our apostolate, whose mission is to aid the Church in the salvation of the human race. I hope I am able to impress upon the minds of our students the feeling of responsibility that the Fathers of the Council have attempted to convey in their message to youth: "You are the ones who will receive the torch from our hands, who will live in a world during the most gigantic transformations in its hirtory. You are the ones who, taking only the best example and the teachings of your fathers and mentors, will form the society of tomorrow. You will be sa_ved or perish with her!"

1966 Basketball
Experience and a little bit of hard work paid off for our basketball team, as Belen improved from a 1-8 record last year to 7-8 this year. A strong finish was highlighted by our first victory over rival St. Patrick's and a determined but unsuccessful bid to upset La Salle. Top scorer in the team was Eudaldo Suarez, with an 18.2 average and a game high 44 points against Miami Christian, a school record.

Attendance at games tripled up since we have cheerleaders. Wonder why?
Cheerleaders
Our dream finally came true. This group of cheerleaders were introduced in the second half of the basketball season; and, even if they didn't win the games for our players, they surely made them much more enjoyable.
We are very grateful to all of them.

1965 Baseball
It was only our first season of baseball competition and nobody really expected very much of us. But to the surprise of everyone, our players came up with a winning team and obtained the school's first trophy as runners-up in the group 8-B tournamen t. Our record:
1966 Base ball
A great start and a disappointing finish marked our second year of interscholastic competition in baseball. After racing to six consecutive victories, our team dropped five of the last seven games, to finish with an 8-5 record. Hopes of reaching the state finals were shattered by St. Andrew's in the group tournament, 9-2. Highlighting the season were Jorge Garcia's batting, a .500 average with 4 home runs and 22 R.B.I.'s, and Roberto Pifieyro's pitching - he hurled four of our victories and finished the season with an E.R.A. of 1.22.
