FOREWORD

ONE HUNDRED AND TEN YEARS AGO OUR SCHOOL WAS FOUNDED AND, WITH IT, A NEW SPIRIT BORN: THE BELEN SPIRIT.

IT HAS PROVEN TO BE THE LIGHT AND NOURISHMENT OF THOSE WHO LIVE IT. IT HAS GIVEN TO THE AMERICAS GENERATIONS OF CATHOUt LEADffiS.

BELEN IS PROUD OF ITS MEN, OF ITS TRADITION.

THESE PAGES TRY TO GIVE AN OVERALL VIEW OF BELEN'S MEN AT WORK IN EARNING A DEEP CATHOUC EDUCATION AND LEARNING THE SPIRIT WE INHERITED: THE IGNA TIAN WAY OF LIFE.

DEDICATION

TO THE FACULTY OF BELEN, PAST AND PRESENT.

IN APPRECIATION OF THE MANY YEARS OF DEVOTION TO THEIR CHOSEN TASK OF FORMING CATHOUC LEADERS. WE DEDICATE THIS ANNUAL.

THROUGH THEIR EFFORTS. OUR YOUNG MEN HAVE GONE OUT INTO THE WORLD. DETERMINED AND CAPABLE. WE WHO TODAY BENEFIT FROM THEIR WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE WILL NEVER FORGET.

THE 1964 BELEN IS OUR TRIBUTE TO THESE MEN. OUR TEACHERS.

SODALITY

If one has to define a Sodality, it is quite proper to say that it is an army, an army of men ready to fulfill God's will at any moment and at any risk.

Seventy five years ago a Sodality was founded in Belen which has given dozens of Catholic leaders to our nations. Now it is working with Cuban youth in a desire to form better leaders and better Catholics. With a hundred sacrifices our Sodality is going ahead, progressing rapidly. It is offering a spirit to live by, a way of life to every youth who desires higher ideals.

OUR LADY OF BELEN

CATECISMO

Eh?

During the last twenty years, VINCAM has been an encouraging message from High.

First in Havana, now in exile, VINCAM has intended to continue its social and apostolic task.

Humberto Ravelo, Carlos Pino, Luis Gonzalez, Francisco Perez, Carlos Garcia, under the supervising of Rev. Edward s. Dunn, s. J., took charge of publishing VIMCAM this year.

VINCAM

VERY REV. FEDERICO ARVESU, S. J.

Through the education and moral stature instilled by the Jesuits of this famous institution, Colegio del Belfn, many young men have risen to positions of respect and moral obligation, fully prepared to meet the responsibilities thus engendered.

These men throughout the past and present century, was founded in 1854 and seized by communists in 1961), have been found in all facets of social and religious life in Cuba and the world.

One of these men, an attendant of this school from 1933 to 1938, is now a Jesuit and Provincial for the antilles; a member of the same organization which has dedicated its life to the welfare and education of youth throughout the world.

Befoge being appointed Provincial, he elfilled the jesuit role, for he was a counselor, that most respected position, a friend of the student body of first in Havana, then in our exile in Miami, Fla.

Our Editor with the Faculty Advisor. Copy, trying to figure something worthwhile to say.

Fr. Diaz teaches sociology to the youngest members of our student body.

Seniors are taught the principles of Sociology.

Sophomores learn how to sleep with their eyes open.

R.P. Jose Rubinos Ramos, S.J.

TO ALL WHO DO GOOD TO US FOR YOUR NAME'S SAKE, WE BEG YOU, 0 LORD: GRANT ETERNAL LIFE.

This is the daily prayer of the Society of Jesus for its benefactors. ,. On the following pages are the names of the benefactors of Belen, up to the time this Year Book was sent to the printer, March 1, 1964. We ask that you join us in our prayer for them.
