Belco Arts acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land where we meet and work, the Ngunnawal people, and the many other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples from across Australia who have now made Canberra their home. We celebrate and respect their continuing culture and the contribution they make to the life of the ACT and region

Strong Women’s Group

Narelle Hutchings, Lisa Madden, Iona Marks and Naomi Notting

The Strong Women’s Group collaborated on developing new work through a series of ceramic sessions. The artists explored ideas through clay whilst enhancing their technical skills in ceramics. Yurwang Bullarn is the culmination of their investigations exploring and celebrating their cultural identity and heritage.

About Strong Women’s Group

Strong Women’s is a community group held at West Belconnen Child & Family Centre for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander women living on Ngunnawal Country.

In 2023, we worked with Strathnairn Arts on developing our cultural expression through a new medium including making ceramic coolamons, whistles, and pressed native flower bowls.

Artworks that are for sale can be purchased in person at Belconnen Arts Centre, or online at shop.belcoarts.com.au.
