Abstract: Several countries and international organizations are working on the development of green national accounts that can complement the usual measure for the economic value of the production in a country, Gross Domestic Product. One of them is Denmark. How far have we come in Denmark? And what can other countries, including Russia, learn from the work done in Denmark? Those questions are addressed, focusing on biodiversity and the work to establish a link between biodiversity and economic models, a link that is anything but straightforward to establish.

A focus will be placed on outlining current research questions addressed in the context of organic food consumption such as the link between local and organic food and organic food consumption and healthy eating, respectively. Moreover, research surrounding food waste and food fraud and their relation with sustainable development will be briefly highlighted. The presentation shall serve as an input for discussion about potentials for future collaboration in these fields between Russian (academic/non-academic) institutions and IFRO. Research is conducted within the areas of consumer economics, food sociology, law and bioethics, much of it in interdisciplinary collaboration between the areas and with different disciplines of natural science.
Research in consumer economics focuses on the economic determinants of food consumption as well as implications of food choices such as public health or rural development implications. The sociological research focuses on social and cultural aspects of ordinary everyday practices related to food and eating, meal patterns, healthy eating, obesity and on perceptions concerning the development and use of various forms of technologies in agriculture and food production. In the field of law research focuses on environmental law and food law, including water law, nature protection law, planning law as well as food safety law and consumer protection at national as well as EU level. Finally, research within bioethics analyses value questions and ethical issues relating to agriculture, food production, use of various forms of biotechnology and different forms of animal use.

8. Alexander Prishchepov, associate Professor (alpr@ign.ku.dk), University of Copenhagen, “Trade-offs between ecosystem services and food production by recultivating abandoned agricultural lands in Russia” Александр Прищепов, университет Копенгаген, ассоц. профессор «Компромиссы между экосистемными услугами и производством продовольствия путем рекультивации заброшенных сельскохозяйственных земель в России» Abstract Global food demand will increase in upcoming decades further yielding cropland expansion at the expense of environmental frontiers. At the same time agricultural land abandonment is widespread globally. Russia is one of the global hotspots of massive land abandonment following the economy restructure after the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991. Here we investigated with satellite remote-sensing techniques and ancillary data the patterns of ~60 Mha of abandoned agricultural lands across Russia. By performing econometric analysis and assessment of environmental trade-offs and agricultural potentials on abandoned lands, we conclude the agricultural potential on abandoned lands is much lower as it has been thought. At the same time, abandoned lands provide opportunities for defgragmentation of forests and steppes, carbon sequestration, alternative to agriculture land use. About Alexander Prishchepov. http://ign.ku.dk/english/employees/geography/?pure=en/persons/501467 Alexander Prishchepov graduated with MSc from the Russian State Hydrometeorological University (RSHU) in 2001 and obtained his PhD in 2010 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2010. Since 2014 Alexander is a full time associate professor at the University of Copenhagen, Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management (IGN) and a part-time research fellow at Kazan Federal University and Steppe Research institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Alexander Prishchepov leads an interdisciplinary group (Integrative Analysis of Land Transformation- ILTAS www.iltas.net) on Land System Studies at the University of Copenhagen. His group focuses on understanding the dynamics of land transformation (land system science), human-environment interactions, and sustainable land use. While the primary geography focus is on Northern Eurasia (the post-Soviet States, China), the group conducts research in other parts of the world too (e.g., Vietnam, Peru). The work is highly interdisciplinary and collaborative across various institutions in the studied countries. 9. Irina Bjørnø, Assoc. professor, Ph. D. “Recirculation and sustainable strategy by eyes of physicist” Ирина Бйорно, доцент, канд. физ-мат. наук “Рециркуляция и стратегия экологического развития глазами физика”

Lecture will touch the global problem of ecology, recirculation and challenges to solve the problem in international collaboration in this areas. Irina Bjørnø was working 12 years in Technical University of Denmark, leading the projects in food industry (whine, vegetables, butter ect.) with aspects of monitoring the quality of products and saving the energy during the food processing. One of the biggest project was about the waste water recirculation by using the modern ultrasound technology (with Germany and Holland). Later she was leading her own international consulting company “UltraTech”, where she implemented her ideas about ecology and recycling in practice. She is the active writer and blogger and was working 5 last years as danish journalist. She is chairmen of Russian Cultural Mission in Denmark (RKMD) - www.rusmission.dk . RKMD is coordinator of big Russian-Danish projects, including this Russian-Danish seminar on ecology and recycling. Contacts: www.belbooks.dk 40384284 irinabjorno@gmail.com
