Fall is the best, isn’t it? Kids go back to school, new TV shows come out, and the weather finally gets colder, which means I can pull out my macrame ponchos. Plus, you get my Fall box, which I curated with wonderful things to ensure that you, like Humpty Dumpty, have a great fall.

Our fall box artist RAGGEDYTIFF specializes in statement apparel and accessories, unique home decor, and vivid illustrations like the one featured on the print in your box. The company was founded by Jessica Resendíz, who was born in Mexico and grew up in Southern California. She began creating her own headbands and other fashion pieces at the age of eight, and eventually attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles, CA to evolve her art.

Artist Jessica Resendíz uses her multi-cultural origins to give her art a unique perspective. Through her brand, RAGGEDYTIFF, Jessica explores her community-focused, multi-media art through statement apparel, unique accessories, stationery, and home decor. In this exclusive interview, Jessica shares about her roots and modern inspirations with the BE KIND. team.

Artist Q&A

there on, my passion for designing clothing flourished into what it is now, wearable garments. Growing up my parents didn’t have much so whatever clothing they would give me, whether it was hand-medowns or from garage sales I made a good use out of it. It all started as a necessity and eventually it grew into something beautiful and now a passion for designing.

Q: What’s your favorite Fall memory?

Q: What inspires your art? My inspiration comes from childhood memories and traditions was taught growing up. My abuelita (grandmother) was always my biggest inspiration. She taught me the beauty of our beautiful Mexican culture and how important it is to always celebrate it loud and proud. But also my inner child inspires me to create daily. I’m honoring my younger self by doing the art I’ve always dreamt of.

Q: When did you start creating art? Why did you start? I was 9 years old when I was given permission to use a needle and scissors. I then took everything in my closet and re constructed all [of] my wardrobe into unique and funky pieces. Since a young age have always been so curious about art in clothing. From

Q: Tell us about some of your past work. have been very fortunate to be doing this since I was a little girl. Never did I think that later in the years ahead would get to do this for a living and work with many talented people. Let alone collaborate with huge companies that not only believe in my craft, but appreciate my art. So a lot of my past work has only been a learning experience to keep getting better.

Q: What kind of message do you want to pass on to the world through your art? My mission and vision is to keep inspiring our next generation, and for them to create within and from the heart. I hope they feel seen with my artwork and make them proud of our culture. I just want every creative mind to create as much as they can and inspire the world with powerful and empowering art.

My favorite fall memory is as a child going to Queretaro, Mexico during Dia De Los Muertos - Day of the Dead. It’s a celebration honoring our past loved ones (ancestors) and showering with cempasúchil - marigold flowers, candles, food/drinks, and music. It’s a way of paying tribute to them by remembering their lives even though they are no longer with us. The smell of Copal - an incense - always reminds me of my grandparents. The trio band playing in the background singing our favorite songs and even crying to them. The Marigold flowers all over the rancho (ranch) in people’s doors and graves. Bringing all kinds of favorite dishes from enchiladas, tamales and fruits. These are the vivid memories live by everyday when thinking of my fall memories in Mexico. Bittersweet yet beautiful memories.
