HENLEY

Masters Regatta2023

Friday 7thand Saturday 8th July 2023

On behalf of the Regatta Committee, welcome to the Twenty Eighth Henley Masters Regatta.

The regatta was first held in 1994 and was the brainchild of Harry Harvey from Derby Rowing Club. It has been held, and has been held every year since, apart from 2020 when it was not possible due to Covid restrictions. The regatta seeks to provide masters rowers and scullers the opportunity to competitively race side by side on the world-famous Henley course, with a friendly and welcoming bank side experience for competitors, their supporters, and other spectators.

As in previous years, the 2023 regatta has been oversubscribed with more entries than the two-day event can accommodate. However, this year’s regatta boasts 1200 competitors from 108 clubs with 360 accepted crew entries. Both the number of competitors and accepted crew entries are greater than last year and are plenty enough to offer two full days of racing.

In addition, (for the avid statisticians), the 2023 entry includes 145 different rowing clubs from 11 countries, with competitor’s ages ranging from 27 to 83 years: including 76 over 70 years and 11 aged over 80 years.

Whilst most of the clubs represented are from the UK, (108 UK clubs), there are 12 clubs from the USA, 7 from France, 5 from Ireland, 4 fromAustralia, 3 from Germany, 2 from Austria, and 1 from New Zealand, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Switzerland. We are extremely pleased to welcome all the domestic and international clubs especially following last year’s covid impacted reduced international entry

As usual events are split into the various “Masters’age categories” this year from masters B (36- 42 years) to masters J (80 – 84 years). The crews entered contain a mix of competitors who have taken up rowing later in life alongside former Olympians and Internationals.

Racing takes place over a 1000-meter course starting just above Temple Island and finishing at Upper Thames Rowing Club. There are races every 4 minutes starting at 9am on both days with crews progressing through their events to the finals on Saturday afternoon.

The event is totally run by, and it is indebted to all the volunteers who give up their time, experience, and positive energies to ensure a successful regatta. This year there are about 100 during the regatta plus the organising committee and other supporters. THANK YOU!

In addition, THANK YOU to all our sponsors, exhibitors and program advertisers who are invaluable in supporting the event. Please do take time to visit stands and review the program.

We wish you a pleasant, enjoyable, and successful regatta.
