Transportation, when provided, will be by Bedford Charter unless otherwise noted.

In order to continue offering quality programs at affordable costs, please consider donating to our scholarship fund Bedford Recreation's goal is never to turn away an interested participant due to economic hardship. With your help of $5, $10, $25 (or more!), we will be able to continue this practice

Notice must be given 5 business days’ prior to program start for refund If the required notice is given refunds will be issued less 10% of the cost of the program. Medical refunds given after a program has begun will be prorated and the 10% fee will be charged Other exceptions are noted in program descriptions.

Inclusion Program Inclusion Questionnaire

Our inclusion program provides extra support to participants during recreation programs If you are interested in participating in any of our recreation programs or would like to request inclusion support, please fill out our inclusion questionnaire. This allows us to work to meet the needs of each individual to the best of our abilities Our Therapeutic Recreation Team will use this information to create a plan that ensures proper support during our programs Support can vary depending on the needs of the participant

Inclusive Community Connections

A recreational exploration program for adults with disabilities to build connections through personal interests and supported time with peers. The program will promote embedded concepts of social/emotional learning, self-advocacy, executive functioning skills, as well as social opportunities to support adults in identifying their intrinsic interests and provide them with a road map to pursue these activities further within their communities

*In addition to the program fee, participants are responsible for covering bus fees for trips that will be taken. Each participant should bring at least $5/week for bus fees and are encouraged to pack a lunch There may be opportunities to purchase lunch, depending on the excursion

Conquering H Mart Blitz

The Asian Supermarket, H Mart, is just up the road from Bedford but can seem a world away The aisles are full of what for some are unfamiliar treasures: sauces, noodles, dumplings, seaweed, rice, tofu, fresh Korean side dishes (banchan), an ocean of fish, fields of teas and condiments, and so much more But for those who are unacquainted with some of the ingredients and see unrecognizable labels, the football-field size of the store can be too daunting for an enjoyable experience. Join Debra Samuels, as she helps de-mystify H Mart and guides you through the market. This one day ‘blitz’ class will provide an overview experience with time for questions, shopping, and snacking Goodie bags and handouts with recipes and tips on how to stock your own “starter” Asian pantry provided Please bring a recipe that you would like to try, wear comfortable shoes, and bring a sweater! Disc Golf Saturdays

Get out and explore the local Disc Golf offerings with Rachel this spring Over the span of 4 weeks we will visit some of the 9-hole courses set up around Bedford, starting with more open layouts and making our way into wooded areas. Whether you are new to the sport or an experienced player, join us Saturdays this spring for a great time. Discs will be available to borrow if you don’t have your own Courses take 1-1 5 hours to play the full 9, but participants are welcome to stay and run it again for a full 18. We will meet each week at the designated course.

After moving to Tennessee in 2020 Rachel was introduced to the Disc Golf world and quickly fell in love with it While working with the recreation department in Knoxville, she assisted in the facilitation of numerous disc golf programs including clinics, tournaments, and a glow disc golf program. Are you disappointed by the images you get with your fancy digital SLR or MIRRORLESS camera? Are you intimidated by the innumerable buttons, dials and menus on your camera? This workshop can help! We will demystify your digital camera, giving you a strong foundation in understanding and using the basic functions. Proper exposure (aperture, shutter speed, ISO), histogram, white balance, camera shooting modes and focusing modes, lenses, digital file types, file resolution and other fundamental digital camera controls will be covered Through weekly lectures, demonstrations and assignments, you will gain essential photographic knowledge and develop a comfort with your camera, helping you to make better images and get the most out of your modern digital camera. We will build on the foundation from Digital Photography I as we start by reviewing the basics and then moving on to more fundamentals You will continue to develop your photography skills as you become more comfortable with the functions of your digital cameras In addition to learning new technical skills – including additional camera functions and an introduction to the use of flash - we will address the visual elements of making images, helping you elevate your skills from taking snapshots to making photographs Discussions include: identifying and isolating the subject, elements of composition, and effective use of color in your photographs Weekly critique sessions address technical and aesthetic considerations as you are challenged to make conscious decisions as you use your cameras. In this class students will be introduced to the printmaking process of linocut. The class will cover techniques in carving linoleum, composition, ink mixing, and printing. At their own pace students will learn how to create a design and carve it in linoleum using carving tools Students will learn how to ink and print their linoleum blocks by hand.
