Register online at www.bedfordrecreation.org or in person, by mail or by fax. A registration form is at the back of this brochure for non-online registration. Tuition must be paid at the time of registration. We do not prorate. We accept VISA, MasterCard, AmEx and Discover. Checks should be made payable to the Town of Bedford. There is a $25 penalty fee for returned checks. Those requiring special assistance, please contact the Recreation Director. Transportation, when provided, will be by Bedford Charter unless otherwise noted. Financial Aid For consideration, please submit the Financial Assistance Form and Registration Form. Forms can be found on our website or scan the QR code.
Bedford Recreation Scholarship Fund: In order to continue offering quality programs at affordable costs, please consider donating to our scholarship fund. Bedford Recreation's goal is never to turn away an interested participant due to economic hardship. With your help of $5, $10, $25 (or more!), we will be able to continue this practice.
Refund/Cancellation Policy Notice must be given 5 business days’ prior to program start for refund. If the required notice is given refunds will be issued less 10% of the cost of the program. Medical refunds given after a program has begun will be prorated and the 10% fee will be charged. Other exceptions are noted in program descriptions.

Updates and changes to programs will be listed in the online version of this brochure and noted during registration. Alex is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist who graduated from the University of New Hampshire where she studied Recreation Management and Policy with a focus in Therapeutic Recreation. Please reach out to Alex with any questions about Therapeutic Recreation, or our Recreation Inclusion Program.
Angelina has a Bachelor’s in Art Education from Delaware State University and a Master’s from Lesley University in Ecological Teaching and Learning. She is working to become a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS). Please reach out to Angelina with any questions about our Recreation Inclusion Program.
Inclusion Program Our inclusion program provides extra support to participants during recreation programs. If you are interested in participating in any of our recreation programs or would like to request inclusion support, please fill out our inclusion questionnaire. This allows us to work to meet the needs of each individual to the best of our abilities. Our Therapeutic Recreation Team will use this information to create a plan that ensures proper support during our programs. Support can vary depending on the needs of the participant.

BHS Marching Band and local organizations turn The Great Road into a sea of color and excitement for Bedford Day! The parade begins at the intersection of the Great Road and Loomis Street and proceeds north on the Great Road and finishes at Mudge Way.
Arrival after 6:00 PM. Best Viewing Area: Fields Between High School and Town Hall. Fireworks are launched from the John Glenn Middle School. Final details will be posted closer to the event.
HEALTH DEPARTMENT OFFERING FLU VACCINATIONS: The Bedford Health Department is offering flu vaccinations for Bedford community members ages 3 years and older at Bedford Day, on September 19th from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm, by appointment in the white tent behind Town Center building. Both standard and high dose (65 years+) flu vaccine will be available. FluMist (flu vaccine nasal spray) will not be offered at the clinic as the vaccine won’t be available to Health Department until late September. In order to attend, you must have received a flu vaccine in the past. Please bring insurance card to your appointment and wear clothing that allows for easy access to your upper arm. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. The link to register for an appointment will be available on the Health Department’s webpage in late August at https://tinyurl.com/mv4h5hbb. Additional vaccine clinics will be announced at a later date by the Health Department.

Fall Mystery Walks Leader: Mary Hurley

Discover new places to hike and hear tales about Native American settlers and esteemed writers such as Alcott and Emerson. Walks are typically four to five miles and usually rain or shine. Join Rachel for a one-day Disc Golf Clinic this Fall. This 2.5 hour program will start with going over basic throwing forms and types of discs before hitting a local 9-hole course to test out your skills. Whether you are brand new, or hoping to brush up on your technique, this program is a great way to get outside and try a new sport perfect for individuals of all ages and abilities. Course location will be emailed out to participants one week before program. Discs will be available to borrow if needed. While working with the recreation department in Knoxville, she assisted in the facilitation of numerous disc golf programs including clinics, tournaments, and a glow disc golf program. She is excited to find and create a disc golf community here in Bedford!

Leaders: Sara Carver, MS-SLP, Transition Councelor & Vanessa Fugimoto-Pabon, MS, CCC-CLP A recreational exploration program for adults with disabilities to build connections through personal interests and supported time with peers. The program will promote embedded concepts of social/emotional learning, selfadvocacy, executive functioning skills, as well as social opportunities to support adults in identifying their intrinsic interests and provide them with a road map to pursue these activities further within their communities. *In addition to the program fee, participants are responsible for covering bus fees for trips that will be taken. Each participant should bring at least $5/week for bus fees and are encouraged to pack a lunch. There may be opportunities to purchase lunch, depending on the excursion.

And, the good news is, no matter how long you may have had poor posture, it is NEVER TOO LATE to make improvements. Your clothes will fit better, too! We have become a nation of professional sitters, causing lower body muscles to weaken and sag. If you don’t have time, money, or an inclination to haul yourself to the gym, you will love these powerful and effective techniques. Face Yoga Tuesday, December 1 | 7:00 - 8:30 PM There are over 30 individual muscles on each side of your face, all of which can be strengthened and toned, just like arm or leg muscles. Facial exercises can take years off your appearance by reducing frown and forehead lines, reducing ‘puppet mouth’ lines, lifting and firming neckline, making upper and lower cheeks fuller, reduce puffiness and sagging around eyes, improve circulation and nutrient flow into cells and improve lymph circulation. Valerie Arvidson is a writer and amateur visual artist who has published stories, personal essays, and poetry. She is the owner of Líf Books in Bedford, MA -- an indie bookshop selling new and used books, gifts, art, and treats. Arvidson earned her BA (Dartmouth College), MFA (University of Washington), and PhD all in English Literature and Creative Writing; the last degree came with a doctoral scholarship and was completed at the International Institute of Modern Letters at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. Her dissertation was a two-part project that included an original novel and critical research paper focusing on hybrid image-texts. She is from Massachusetts and lives in Bedford with her husband and two children. Arvidson loves teaching and has experience working with a wide range of ages and a variety of topics based in writing and literature. In her work, both creative and educational, she loves to blur the lines of disciplines, genres, and categories. Her dream for this program is to have it continue on its own organically and become open to more writers.

Rachelle Toth has been leading adult and tween/teen crafting programs at area libraries, community centers, and even a farm for over four years. She caught the crafting bug from her mom who caught it from hers. For over 12 years she ran the children’s craft and activity table at the Wilmington Farmers Market. She currently hosts a children’s craft show on Wilmington’s Community Television, WCTV.

Class held at Stone Carving Studio, 80 Loomis St. 2 Floor, Bedford. In this popular one-day workshop, you have the opportunity to carve your own stone, an art form that is not typically accessible. Beginners and experienced sculptors alike will be guided through the process of looking into the rock for imagery, carving into material, planning and forming a sculpture, and using tools. Hand-carving techniques will be demonstrated and stone carving lore will be discussed. Safety in the studio and stone and tool sourcing will also be addressed. You will leave with a stone sculpture in hand. Please bring safety goggles and a bag lunch to class. All materials will be provided. Write & Submit a Short Story in 4 Weeks Do you think you might have a story in you? Work with award-winning Bedford fiction author Jenn Bouchard (First Course, Considering Us, Palms on the Cape, and several short stories) to craft a short story to submit to literary magazines. Chinese Brush Painting for Beginners

This class offers an opportunity to explore the art of Chinese Brush Painting. Students will learn some foundational skills of Chinese Brush Painting, including the use of brushes, the technique of stroke, and line works. At the end of the class, students will have completed paintings of their own. Growing up in Taiwan, she had some schooling in Chinese calligraphy, which introduced her to the world of Chinese Brush Painting. Her painting interests cover the genre of Birds and Flowers and Landscape. Dr. Tsai’s painting skills are influenced by the tradition of Lingnan School of painting as well as traditional Chinese landscape brush and line works. Currently, she is exploring and experimenting with the modernization of brush painting by using skills she gains through the influences mentioned above.

Thursdays, Nov 5 - 19 (3wks) | 6:30 - 7:15 PM Join us for a month of West Coast Swing, a relaxed, adaptable partner dance that works with everything from blues and pop to modern hits. You may have seen it on TikTok or Instagram— those fun random partner, random song, improvised dance videos that keep popping up. Now’s your chance to learn how it actually works.This beginner series focuses on the fundamentals: basic patterns, timing, and comfortable partner connection. The goal is to help you feel confident dancing with different people and to different music, without pressure or performance. As a bonus, our area has lots of West Coast Swing social dancing, so you’ll be well prepared to head out on your own and dance your way through the winter.

Bhangra is an energetic, folk dance and music form that originated from Punjab, India. Today, it’s the newest dance, music, and fitness phenomenon spreading all over the world. Bhangra has made its way to America’s Got Talent, the London Olympics, NBA half-time routines and even the White House. The beginner and intermediate friendly classes are designed to be fun, welcoming and high energy making it perfect for anyone looking to move, sweat, and learn something new. Each session will focus on easy to follow Bhangra techniques, upbeat cardio to build fitness and stamina and end with a short feel good choreography. No prior experience is necessary.

Instructors: Demet Senturk This super popular class is back for the Fall! Benefits of belly dance are both mental and physical. Belly dancing provides a good cardiovascular workout and helps increase flexibility and strength. The emphasis on muscular "isolations" teaches the ability to move various muscles or muscle groups independently. This dynamic, fun, easy, and original belly dancing fitness program combines exercise with dance moves. The practice offers mental health benefits including an improved sense of well-being, better body image and self-esteem, and the generally positive outlook that comes with regular, enjoyable exercise. This is suitable for all ages and body types. Regular workout clothes are appropriate. Participants can choose to be barefoot or wear socks. Coin belts will be provided as props to try during class.

Instructor: On the Mark Archery These classes are a collaboration with neighboring towns and are held at various locations.
Get outside this season to enjoy learning a fun and relaxing Olympic sport: recurve archery! This martial art archery only requires patience, focus and discipline to succeed with emphasis placed on the technique rather than just the aiming. Build character, self-esteem and confidence with each triumph and tribulation on the range as you work hard to achieve consistent success. Unique lesson plans mixed with creative mini games on the range keep students engaged throughout the program. All equipment provided and class is led by teams of certified USA Archery instructors.

Learn to Play (Beginner) Have you been curious to try pickleball, but not ready to join an open play session? Not sure how to swing the paddle, where to stand on the court, or how to keep score? Here is your chance to learn the fundamentals of the fastest growing sport in the country. Pickleball is a combination of tennis, racquetball, & ping-pong played by four people on a half size tennis court with paddles and a plastic polyball. Each class includes learning the rules, how to score, strategy, hitting drills, & game play. It’s great exercise & easy to learn! Players are encouraged to repeat this clinic to improve play. Equipment available if needed.

Next Level Pickleball (Advanced Beginner/Low Intermediate) Are you an “improving” player looking to bring your game to the next level? This clinic is designed for the advanced beginner to intermediate player. Drills, drills, drills will help you remember the proper technique for making each type of shot. The more you drill, the more you’ll integrate better technique into your game. We’ll use different hitting exercises to improve consistency and accuracy and then bring them into game play. Practice will equal better results. Players are encouraged to repeat this class to improve play. Wear pockets, we’ll be keeping plenty of balls in motion.
