WHAT IS THE ACADEMY OF SPORT? The Tresham Academy of Sport offers high quality education and training allowing students to continue with their sporting development whilst gaining academic qualifications. With access to great facilities, high level coaching, experienced teaching staff and medical and fitness support, our Tresham Academy of Sport aims to provide an elite sporting experience and push you to achieve your goals.

BE A PART OF OUR SUCCESS STORY! Here are just some of our highlights: • The Football Academy 1st Team reached the quarter finals of the National Premier Cup, finished as runners up in the Category 1 College Premier League and reached the last 16 of the ECFA National College Premier playoffs. • The Girls Football Academy finished as league runners up and reached the quarter finals of the ECFA National Cup. • The Volleyball squad were National Cup quarter finalists and regional runners up. • Ryan (Boys Football Academy) – ranked 5* by USA Scholarship Colleges (only 3 out of 500 to be ranked at this level). • The Rugby Academy was awarded RFU Focus College status and hosted the England U20 Head Coach for a special session. • AoC Sport National Reigning Football Champions • Jacob was awarded an athletic scholarship at Derby Univeristy • Connor made his debut for Corby Town Football Club • Tommy made the Midlands Under 18’s Squad • Four of our Rugby players played for Coventry under 18s • One of our Rugby players played for Nottinghams Under 18 Team • Jacob & Amber (Football Academy Players) were announced as our Students of the year

DREW Subject: Sport Level 3 and Football Academy Previous school: Corby Technical School I’ve played football since I was four and wanted to experience studying something different after I finished school. The Football Academy at Tresham College is perfect because we train four times a week but are also working towards an academic qualification. I currently play for Corby Town, as well as playing a match once a week in College. Being part of the Academy has really helped my game; my attacking side is better and I feel more comfortable with the ball and am now able to play well under pressure.
Our tutors are very good; they all play football. They took us to Barcelona last year to watch the team play and look around the city. The tutors also organised for some people to come in and talk to us about American scholarships. Once I finish here I am going to Northeastern State University, Oklahoma, to play football and study Sport Management. If all goes well at university I am hoping to qualify as a Sports or PE Teacher.
I enjoy studying various aspects of the course, from psychology to the skeletal system and the background of sport and how things like religion and ethnicity affect it.

MACEY Subject: Girls Football Academy I decided to come to Tresham College as I really enjoyed sport at School. After speaking to my teachers I decided that College would be the best path for me. I have completed nearly three years at the Girls Football Academy. During this time, I have been given many opportunities and have been supported by all of my tutors from the very beginning. I have also made some great friends who share the same interests as me on this course.
After I complete this course, I have decided I want to stay on to do a Higher Education course. I would like to become a PE teacher when I finish studying and with the support from the tutors I definitely think I can achieve my goal.

THE RUGBY ACADEMY The Rugby Academy offers aspiring players the chance to continue with their education whilst also gaining high quality training and rugby development led by expert coaches. Students will take part in a full-time study programme at our Kettering campus and will receive multiple weekly training sessions and regular league fixtures. ALFIE Subject: Sport Level 3 and Rugby Academy Previous school: Sir Harry Smith Community College I’ve played rugby for five years and my ambition is to play professionally. I knew the Rugby Academy at Tresham College had great facilities, as well as very good tutors. My Coach John Phillips played for Northampton Saints and in the premiership. It was John who nominated me to trial for East Midlands Rugby County who I now play for. We have the freedom to structure our College work to link into our own sport and I can apply a lot of what I learn to my own training. My favourite unit on the course is fitness training and programming, which I achieved a Distinction in. We study things such as physiology and energy systems, all of which can affect your game.
We’ve had various speakers come into College including the England County Coach and had guest rugby sessions led by England development coaches. We’ve also visited Northampton Saints’ stadium for a tour and watched the players train. Back at College we have an on-site Sports therapist, sports hall, 4G Astro pitches and gym. I have some work experience planned at my old school to help in the Sports department and also run some rugby-based workshops after school hours. After I finish College I hope to go to university to study Physiology of Sport and play rugby on a team. Eventually I’d love to play professionally.

COLLEGE SPORT ACADEMY
Should you decide that specialising in either the Football Academy or the Rugby Academy is not for you, you have the opportunity to be involved in College Sport. Similarly this forms part of your timetable however the key focus is based around developing your understanding and practical skills in a wide variety of sports. Each year College Sport learners participate in various sports at the College such as Handball, Basketball, Dodgeball, Futsal, Netball, Indoor Cricket, Rounders, Ultimate Frisbee, Badminton, Table Tennis, Short Tennis amongst others, and outside the College such as Golf, 10 pin Bowling and Squash. Other sessions focus on the measurement of and improvement of fitness with a range of Fitness testing and Cardiovascular, Circuit, Speed and Strength training which also forms the yearly content.

Most notably, the College Sport learners have gained most recognition in Volleyball with the Women’s Volleyball team being invited to participate in the National Championships in 2019, ranking 7th nationally and the Men’s Volleyball team claiming the Regional Champions crown at the Regional Championship in 2020 and being invited to participate against High School touring teams from Argentina and representative teams from the East Midlands at the East Midlands Volleyball tournament in 2020. However, most importantly College Sport sessions are fun, supportive and engaging and suitable for all academic levels regardless of ability.
