FLOURISH DEVELOP PROGRAMME At Bede’s, we want pupils to love learning. Our broad and innovative curriculum builds a strong foundation of knowledge while developing the skills pupils will need to succeed in a rapidly changing world. Learning is not simply about remembering facts. Pupils are encouraged to question, explore, create, collaborate and think critically. Our Flourish Develop programme takes this approach even further, bringing subjects together through exciting projects that allow pupils to learn by doing. They might explore ecology and animal care through projects with our on-site Zoo, become expert negotiators through Junior Model United Nations, or investigate how technology, data and AI are changing the world around them. These experiences encourage pupils to apply their knowledge in new and meaningful ways.
FLOURISH

Practical skills Alongside subject knowledge, pupils develop a wide range of practical and transferable skills. They learn to work effectively with others, communicate and present their ideas, research and evaluate information, use technology and data, and respond positively to feedback. They might design and build something, produce a piece of writing, deliver a presentation or keep a journal reflecting on their learning. The emphasis is always on thinking, creating and improving.
Personal Growth We also want pupils to develop the confidence and resilience to take on challenges. In an ever-changing world of work, flexibility, creativity, digital literacy and the ability to solve problems are increasingly important. We want our pupils to be curious, adaptable and willing to have a go, understanding that mistakes are not failures but an important part of learning.
Finding joy in their pursuit of brilliance Above all, we want every pupil to find joy in learning and pride in achieving something they once thought was difficult. By combining knowledge, creativity, collaboration and challenge, we aim to give pupils the confidence and skills to make the most of the opportunities ahead.

We also excel in supporting athletes in non-mainstream disciplines—ranging from go-karting and golf to skiing and scuba-diving. Elite performers in these fields benefit from flexible scheduling and the expertise of our Strength and Conditioning Coach. Beyond custom training plans, our in-house team assists with injury rehabilitation and manages conditions such as Osgood-Schlatter or Sever’s disease safely within the school environment. Balancing specialisation with breadth is a hallmark of the Bede’s experience. Following Sport England guidelines on long-term athlete development, pupils in Years 7 and 8 participate in core sport academies alongside a multi-sport Games programme. This model provides high contact time while mitigating issues tied to early specialisation, such as loading, burnout, and injury. Crucially, it builds physical literacy and teaches pupils that athletic achievement comes from effort, developing lasting tenacity and conscientiousness. Whether pursuing sport as a career or a hobby, Bede’s pupils are encouraged to exceed expectations, build confidence, and cultivate a lifelong passion for health and fitness. The strong sense of belonging fostered among teammates equips pupils with vital social tools, helping them form deep friendships now and into adulthood.

GAMES Core Games allows for year-round participation in physical activity, building on skill and tactical development as well as fitness. Games lessons are built into the school day and offer something for everyone. Games lessons will be tailored to suit ability and pupils will have the opportunity to both learn and train competitively in the seasonal sports. The lessons will allow pupils to have coaching and feedback as well as performance and competition, again, tailored to ability with a range of options available. Games lessons provide something for everyone and lessons are embedded into the school day with fixtures on Wednesday afternoons against a variety of opposition.

SPORTS ACADEMIES
Our Sport academies offer additional coaching and contact time during curriculum time and Bede’s has been pioneering this approach for many years. They complement the already extensive offer within the games programme and we recognise that they will be extremely important for some pupils who have already found the sport that they love and want to develop further. The level of expertise and experience our coaches have who lead these academies is second to none, but even more significantly many of them become important mentors for the pupils who they coach during their time at Bede’s and sometimes even after they have left.
40
At Bede’s Senior School, we offer Academies in our Core Pathway Sports (Cricket, Football, Hockey and Tennis) which run all year round and are invite only. Pupil Leadership Opportunities MAKE YOUR MARK ON THE BEDE’S COMMUNITY. Leadership opportunities extend across Years 7 and 8. Being a leader as a pupil allows them to take responsibility, represent their peers and make a positive contribution to school life. Through pupil leadership opportunities of Junior Prefects, Junior Ambassadors, and school council initiatives, we allow pupil voice to be heard and ownership to be felt by the pupil body. Pupils develop confidence, leadership and teamwork while learning how to turn their ideas into positive action. Junior Prefects play an important role in supporting their peers and contributing to school life. They assist with events and activities, and act as positive role models. Both roles develop confidence, communication and leadership skills. Our Junior Prefect pupils will work closely with the Senior School prefect team, attend pupil voice meetings and contribute to wider school initiatives and development. They will have the opportunity to learn from older pupils while also sharing their own ideas and perspectives. Our Junior Ambassadors represent different areas of school life, including academics, boarding, sport, Performing Arts and Creative Arts, as well as supporting other committees and societies. They will listen to the views of their peers, help identify opportunities for development and work with staff to make positive changes. In doing so, they will become an important link between pupils and staff, ensuring that pupil voice is heard across the school. Leadership at Bede’s is about more than having a title. Pupils are encouraged to listen, communicate, collaborate and take action. Whether leading a new initiative, supporting a charity project, helping to shape a club or society, or representing their peers, our young leaders are encouraged to be positive role models and play an active part in their community.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
How does the school support pupils of different abilities? Our limited class sizes enable us to carefully monitor our pupils throughout their time with us. Across all subjects, our teachers are able to adapt the work and expectations to match the needs of each pupil to ensure that they continually progress and develop confidence in each area. With particular focus in maths, English and science, we identify areas that need extra focus, and are able to provide bespoke work in the classroom and for prep that strengthens the pupils abilities
How is academic progress measured and reported? Academic progress at Bede’s is meticulously monitored each half-term to ensure every pupil receives the exact support and stretch they need. By combining comprehensive performance tracking with a deep understanding of each child as an individual, we ensure every pupil reaches their full academic potential.
What is the prep expectation? Prep is an important part of the education process, and it is taken seriously at Bede’s. As pupils get older, the amount of time spent on prep increases. All prep is recorded on Google Classroom each day for the pupils to access, and pupils will also be told in class what their prep is.
Will pupils be able to go on any trips and visits? Yes, absolutely! During pupils’ time in Years 7 and 8 they will have the opportunity to participate in a number of trips and visits, which will include curriculum trips to places of historical, cultural or geographical interest as well as sports, social and other enrichment trips.
