here are certain women who enter your life quietly and change the way you see yourself forever. For me, that woman is Sarah Nicole. I found her in early 2020. At the time, I was a mother, a business owner, building a full life and yet still holding back in my own body. Body image has been one of my greatest challenges throughout my life. It has shown up constantly in the small, quiet decisions that shaped how I moved through my life.

There were vacations where I sat on the lounger with strategically placed towels, instead of getting in the pool. Where I observed memories instead of living inside them. Not because I did not want to be enjoying every moment with my kids but because I was more aware of how I looked than how I wanted to feel. What Sarah Nicole has done for women is dismantle that way of thinking. She invites us to see our bodies not as something to fix or hide, but as something that allows us to live fully. To appreciate what is, instead of constantly measuring what is not. That is the ripple effect of a woman who leads in truth, strips expired narratives, is the evidence for others and that is why Sarah is our Summer cover. Summer carries an invitation we often ignore. To step out of routine. To loosen structure. To return to something more alive. Yet, somewhere along the way, many of us stopped playing and having fun. We became efficient. Responsible. Focused. We filled our days with tasks and quietly removed the joyful opportunities. So I will ask you: When was the last time you truly played? When was the last time you allowed your inner child out to giggle, splash and have fun? This issue is your reminder. To get in the water. To laugh without thinking. To do something just because it feels good. To stop watching your life and start living it. This is the summer we come back to ourselves.

y recent stay at The Ritz-Carlton was not my first experience with the property. In fact, one of my most cherished memories was created within these walls years ago when I packed up my two youngest children and escaped for a staycation in the city. We stayed in a corner suite overlooking the CN Tower and Toronto’s skyline. We spent hours in the pool. I enjoyed the spa. We shared meals together that somehow felt both luxurious

and comforting at the same time. To this day, my daughter still talks about the pasta she ate TOCA. According to her, it remains the best pasta she has ever had and during my renovation of my home, I decided to add the Ritz toilets to my restrooms because once you experience them, you can’t go back. Those are the kinds of memories that stay with you.

hen I returned recently to host my team during our summer production schedule for ICONIC Magazine, I arrived with a sense of familiarity, curiosity and anticipation. I wanted to know if the feeling would still be there. It was. The moment you step onto the property, there is a shift. Luxury today is not about excess. It is about care. The scent throughout the hotel immediately signals that you have entered a different environment. The pace slows.

The details become more noticeable. You begin paying attention to the lighting, the textures, the architecture and the atmosphere.

You feel it before anyone says a word. Then the hospitality begins.

As someone who travels frequently, I notice service quickly. I notice efficiency. I notice attentiveness. I notice whether someone is simply doing their job or whether they genuinely care about the experience they are creating. The Ritz-Carlton team understands the difference. From the moment I arrived, every interaction felt thoughtful. They greeted me by my preferred name. They anticipated needs before I voiced them. They worked to ensure the room selected for me would create an experience rather than simply provide accommodation. Nothing felt transactional. Everything felt intentional. That distinction matters to me. Once settled into my room, I found myself craving a quiet afternoon before the evening’s events. I made my way downstairs to the hotel’s wine-focused lounge space LANO and found a patio that immediately felt like a hidden retreat in the middle of the city. Positioned alongside the sidewalk, it offers one of my favourite combinations. You can people-watch and feel connected to the energy of Toronto while still feeling tucked away from it. Surrounded by greenery and thoughtful design, it becomes its own little world. A glass of wine arrived. A dish of olives followed. Suddenly, what was supposed to be a quick bite became one of those moments where you simply allow yourself to exhale. The menu was perfect for exactly that kind of afternoon. Small plates designed for sharing or sampling. A little of this. A little of that. Each dish delivering flavour without feeling heavy. It was relaxed, sophisticated and entirely unpretentious. Exactly what luxury should be. Later that evening, our team gathered at Epoch Bar & Kitchen Terrace, tucked beautifully within the hotel. What struck me immediately was not the menu. It was the atmosphere. Epoch feels polished without feeling exclusive. Sophisticated without feeling intimidating. The patio was alive with conversation, laughter and connection. The guests surrounding us felt intentional. No one seemed to have stumbled into the space accidentally. People were there because they wanted

to be. Business meetings unfolded over cocktails. Friends gathered over dinner. Couples lingered over conversation and then there was one woman sitting quietly by herself. She caught my attention because she seemed completely content. Present. Unhurried.

Comfortable in her own company. As we were leaving, I stopped to tell her how lovely it was to see someone enjoying an evening on their own. She smiled and shared that she had taken a little time away from her children simply to reconnect with herself. To breathe. To remember who she was outside of her daily responsibilities. She told me she was enjoying every moment. I believed her. That interaction stayed with me. Because luxury is not always about grand gestures. Sometimes luxury is having permission to sit alone on a beautiful patio, enjoy a remarkable meal and feel completely at ease. The evening itself was exceptional. Champagne welcomed us. Cocktails followed. The tasting menu delivered one beautiful dish after another. Our unanimous favourite was the seafood tacos. Light, fresh and unforgettable. Yet the food was only one part of the experience. It was the atmosphere that elevated everything. The music was perfectly balanced. The lighting shifted effortlessly as the sun disappeared. The fireplaces created warmth and intimacy. The service remained attentive without becoming intrusive. Every element worked together. Nothing competed for attention. Everything simply belonged. That is what great hospitality does. It makes excellence feel effortless. What makes The Ritz-Carlton, Toronto particularly special today is its versatility.

It can be a family staycation. A wellness retreat. A girls’ weekend.

A romantic getaway. A business destination. Or simply a place to disappear for twenty-four hours and remember yourself again.

For visitors arriving from the United States, Toronto has never been more appealing. The city offers world-class dining, culture, entertainment, sports, shopping and architecture, all within a remarkably walkable downtown core. The Ritz-Carlton sits in the centre of it all. THE WOMAN WHO REFUSED THE EASY

An intimate conversation with Sarah Nicole on the body, motherhood and the freedom a woman builds for herself Written by Jennifer Leigh, Editor in Chief

Some women spend a lifetime asking for permission to take up space. Sarah Nicole stopped asking a long time ago. I found her in 2019. I was a late bloomer to her work. Someone told me the way she celebrated her body was something to behold, and I went looking, because I had not had a good relationship with my own body for most of my life.So I want to be honest about the seat I am writing from. I did not arrive at this cover as a stranger. I arrived as one of the women she reached and deeply impacted. The day I shot her, the room was inspired around my favorite era, 90s fashion. Dramatic makeup, high glamour, a styling so deliberately of its era that she called it iconic and very on the nose.

A member of her team got emotional. I cried with the initial shots. What I did not expect was how quickly the glamour fell away once we sat down. She told me the truth almost immediately.

ost people assume that a woman with her following is met with gratitude pouring in.

That is not what arrives. The applause does not reach the place you think it reaches.

The room gets quieter the higher you climb, not louder. She has lived inside that quiet for years and she has stopped pretending it is not there. “If everyone is watching your stories, no one is usually checking on you.” She calls it the bystander effect of fame.

The more eyes that land on a woman, the more each set of eyes assumes someone else is doing the caring. Until no one does. Sarah did not just notice this. She built a practice out of correcting it. She checks on her happiest friends at the moments they look the most untouchable. One of them, just recently, looked like she was having the best week of her life. Sarah asked how it really was. The answer was that she had been struggling the whole time and had simply gotten very good at showing only the good parts. Sarah was glad she asked. She has made the asking deliberate.

You cannot write about Sarah without writing about the body and she would be the first to tell you why. Any time a woman with a changed body steps into view, her body becomes the subject. Even when she came to talk about something else.

Even when she says nothing at all. Most women experience that as a cage. Sarah decided to hold the pen. If the conversation is going to happen no matter what she does, she will be the one setting its terms. She does not get ahead of the noise to protect herself. She does it so the woman watching learns she is allowed to do the same.

Here is where the word freedom stops being a theme and becomes a decision. She has been offered every procedure for free. The surgeries to remove the skin, to revise, to close the chapter. At no cost.

More times than she can count. She has said no every single time.

Not out of judgment toward the women who say yes. She believes in a woman’s right to choose anything at all for her own body. She told me she would be there to change the drainage tubes for any of them. She says no for a different reason. “I cannot abandon the version of me that really needed the me now.” She is thinking about the women who could never afford what she is being handed for nothing. If she takes the easy way out and sells it back as the answer, she abandons every woman for whom it was never an option. So she chose the harder thing. She wears the bikini to the beach. She walks the runway. She does the shoots. Not as a claim that she has never looked better, but as proof that she always had the right to that life. She decided to be the evidence. Across eighteen years online she has gained weight and lost it many times over. What she asks of the people watching is almost startling in its simplicity. She wants the why in the middle to stay the same. If she gains weight, she does not want to be seen doing less, hiding, dressing differently. If she appears at a smaller size, she does not want anyone to assume she is therefore happier. She wants to be caught doing the same thing, over and over, no matter the shape she is in, so that the meaning never moves. “I am not going back to the sidelines of my life.” She does not want anyone else going back either.

She has never been an adult without being a mother. She was pregnant at twenty. She had her first daughter at twenty-one. She had three children by twenty-five. Her first daughter is turning twenty now. Sarah grew up alongside her own children. When she speaks about it, the composure cracks for the first time in our conversation. She did not give up her dreams for her children. She built them in the same room. She stayed home for ten years, and then her children watched her become a whole other person beyond them, and somewhere in there she understood that they would not remember the version of her who waited.

They would remember the woman who went. She traces the moment it crystallized to a year her own parents spent in Singapore, when she watched her mother exist as a person outside of motherhood for the first time. It woke her up. She wanted her own children to know the part of her that has nothing to do with what she is to them. “I dreamt it beside you. I had you with me.” She has no patience for the question every working mother is handed and no father ever hears. How do you balance it. She rejects the premise entirely. There is no balance. There is only juggling. The only skill that matters is knowing which balls are rubber and which are glass. The work is rubber. Drop a deadline and the world absorbs it by noon tomorrow. The children are glass. She does not juggle them at all. She was in the middle of a major meeting in Los Angeles when her daughter called in tears. She told the room without hesitation that she did not care who was present. Her daughter was the priority. She is careful, too, about what motherhood actually is.

It is not the act of sitting in a room with them. She has booked the doctor’s appointments from airplanes, checked the homework, paid the cheer bills, answered the school emails between cities. Presence is not proximity. The job itself, she insists, is not to shelter them. It is to prepare them for a life without her. She watches Finding Nemo before the start of every school year, for a single line. The father who does not want anything to ever happen to his son. The gentle correction that if nothing ever happens to him, then nothing will ever happen for him. Her children now have cars and jobs and schedules they keep on their own. She can sit back and see that they are going

to be good people. They already are. She is clear-eyed about the cruelty and she refuses to flinch at it. The hate from men is about her body. The hate from women cuts deeper, aimed at her worth as a mother, her right to her own children, her livelihood. She answered one accusation that she was too full of herself with a single line. “I am sorry, do you want me to be empty?” She understands the cruelty as a distraction engineered to keep women living small. She has simply declined to live small. She uses the word accidental about herself, generously. Eighteen years ago she was a stay-at-home mother who hit publish on a blog named for her two small children. Long before the word influencer existed.

She was an early adopter in a Canadian landscape that had almost no one in it. The craft was being invented in Utah, where a generation of women built a profession out of home and cooking and decor they could run while raising families.

Sarah watched the form evolve in real time, from photographs of homes to photographs of bodies. Her own arc bent with it. Craft blogger. Weight-loss influencer. Then the discovery that losing the weight had not made her happy at all.

That redirected everything that came after, toward something closer to confidence than acceptance. The confidence, as she describes it, to live your life even while doing it scared. The turn that made her was a single photograph. A brand founder saw a post in which a sliver of her stretch marks showed and invited her to a shoot. Sarah said no. The founder said they would not do it without her. So she said yes. On that set she met a model whose stretch marks and cellulite she found genuinely beautiful and she realized she had been talking herself out of a room she belonged in. The photograph went viral. She thought she would be sick when she first saw it. Then she read the comments.

They were not even speaking to her. Women were speaking to each other, saying they had never seen a stomach like their own on a model before. She had never seen one either.

That was the whole point. She had spent years believing she was the only one. “The world was ready. I got lucky, because it could have not been true.” Luck is the word she reaches for. It is not the word I would use. She was the one who said yes to the room. She was the one who let the photograph exist. The world was ready because a woman finally decided to be seen, and the women who had been waiting their whole lives recognized themselves in her.

She quit her job to do this full time eight years ago, with eighty thousand followers. Within six months she had half a million. A million followed, then two. She remembers the night she celebrated the first million. She had not even blown out the candle before someone asked when she would hit the next. That was the moment she understood the game would never end on its own. Two years ago she made a decision most people would call nearly quitting. That is not how she tells it. The trolling had turned targeted. The path forward was not obvious. What she did next was the most strategic move of her career. She decided that since she had already let the whole thing go in her own mind, nothing that happened from there could be taken from her.

She had already taken it from herself. That is not surrender. That is a woman handing herself permission. She stopped posting for days at a time. She posted whatever made her laugh. Hot photographs and then ordinary ones. She got sillier. She gave herself exactly what she needed and refused everything she did not. Letting go of the version that was performing is the reason she is still here. She has reframed her whole public life as a party in her own home. The guests are welcome on the main floor. They do not go upstairs into the children’s rooms. They do not go down into the basement. When she stopped sharing her fitness while training for a race, she stopped reporting to headquarters, as she put it, and ran for herself again. “It was not healthy for me, so I had to change those things.” The growth, she has learned, was never only in the climbing. A great deal of it was in the slowing down. There is one tension she is still pushing against and she named it without dressing it up. She has some of the best photographs ever taken of her sitting in her drafts. Unpublished. She wants to share them. The last time she posted an image she loved, a woman told her to get over herself and unfollowed. Sarah sees the conditioning underneath that for exactly what it is. Women are trained to tuck their wins away and lead with the softer, more palatable image of themselves curled up with the dog. A friend of hers calls it asking what a man would do. The man who scores once in high school and dines out on it for forty years, while a woman silences her one triumph for fear of being too much. Naming it is the first refusal. Sarah is naming it out loud, on the record, which is how the spell begins to break. I told her I thought the cruel voices are simply louder than the ones that celebrate us. She agreed instantly. She can collect ninety-nine compliments and still only hear the one. I know that arithmetic well. I told her about a birthday I once spent crying over a single person who would never be pleased with me, having forgotten an entire roster of people who could not do their lives without me. What I learned is that some people will never see you as a person who benefits them, no matter what you do. The only real question is what you imagine you are trying to win. The freedom in that sentence is the same freedom Sarah keeps circling. The work is not to convert the one. The work is to stop handing the one your power.

At one point she wondered aloud what our lives would look like if we spent even a fraction of the energy we pour into our bodies on our work, our leadership, the rooms we walk into. It is the question underneath everything she does. Define a woman by her body and she will define herself the same way. She will spend the single life she has been given negotiating with a mirror. Sarah has decided to spend hers somewhere else. She calls herself a cycle breaker, raising cycle breakers. You believe her, because she is doing it in public, where the cost is highest and the proof is undeniable. Sarah is our Summer cover for a reason. She did not arrive here because she is followed. She arrived because she is free. She has spent eighteen

years showing other women that they are allowed to be free too. Freedom is not given to a woman. She takes it. She takes it by refusing the easy way out. By keeping the why constant. By guarding the glass and letting the rubber bounce. By giving herself the permission no one else was going to grant her. By daring to post the photograph she loves. Wellness travel goes by a lot of names these days: burnout breaks, calmcations, renewal retreats.

Whatever the trendy label du jour, the throughline among them all remains the same. Increasingly, travelers are craving—nay, longing—for vacations designed to support their mental, physical, and emotional well-being rather than simply offer escapism or a ‘gram-worthy shot of a latte.

“We are seeing a clear and sustained shift toward wellness-driven travel,” says Erik Aiple, travel expert and CEO of Fit4Travel. “People are intentionally choosing experiences that help them reset and not just escape or check a destination off their ‘bucket list.’ This is no longer a niche; it is becoming a core reason people travel.”

For April Brown and Sarah Sklash, that conversation became The June Motel. Nearly a decade later, their hospitality brand has become one of Canada’s most recognizable boutique travel experiences, proving

that vision, patience and attention to detail can transform even the most unlikely opportunity into something extraordinary. In this conversation, the founders of The June Motel share how they went from corporate careers in Toronto to building a hospitality brand that has inspired entrepreneurs across the country.

Q: Take us back to the beginning. What sparked The June Motel?

Sarah: We had been friends for 23 years and were both living in Toronto, working nine to five jobs. We had reached a point where we were asking ourselves, “Is this it?” We knew we wanted something different, but we did not know exactly what that looked like. One Friday night we opened a bottle of wine and started brainstorming ideas. At first we were looking for a side project, something exciting to work on outside of our careers. One idea was hosting an adult wine camp in Prince Edward County. We loved spending time there with friends and saw an opportunity to create unique experiences. As we started talking about where we could host it, we found a motel for sale. We began discussing how we could make it cute for a weekend event and then we looked at each other and said, “What if we just bought the motel?” Three months later we had left our jobs, moved out of Toronto and were living in a rundown roadside motel.

Q: The June has a distinct aesthetic. How did you build a brand that feels so recognizable?

April: We actually personified June. June became a character.

She is feminine. She loves summer. She lives for weekends away with her girlfriends. She is fun, confident, nostalgic, and always has a bottle of rosé chilling nearby. When we opened our second property, the challenge became figuring out how to evolve the brand without simply copying the first motel. Instead of asking what another June Motel should look like, we asked, “What would June’s beach house look like in Sauble Beach?” That exercise helped us create consistency while allowing each property to have its own personality.

Q: What have you learned about staying true to a brand as it grows?

Sarah: Any time we have drifted away from what feels authentic to the brand, it has not worked.

The strongest ideas always come back to who June is and what she represents.

The more confidently we lean into what makes us different, the more successful we become.

Q: Most people would walk into a rundown motel and see problems. You saw potential.

Where does that come from?

April: We definitely have an ability to see what something could become.We have walked through some truly terrible properties over the years, places that most people would immediately dismiss.

Yet we walk in and start imagining what they could be. I think it is less about seeing what is there and more about seeing what is missing. When we looked at Prince Edward County back then, there really was not a place we wanted to stay ourselves. Airbnb was not what it is today. Most accommodations were older motels or traditional bed and breakfasts. We saw an opportunity to create something that reflected what we would want as guests.

Q: Entrepreneurship often creates pressure to grow quickly. Have you ever felt that?

Sarah: Absolutely. After our Netflix show came out, we had opportunities to scale quickly. At one point we were talking about ten motels in ten years. Looking back, I am so grateful that did not happen. We were not ready. We still had so much to learn about operations, leadership, guest experience and running multiple properties well. Sometimes growth is not about moving faster. Sometimes growth is about becoming ready for the opportunity when it arrives.

Q: Neither of you came from hospitality or design. Did that ever feel like a disadvantage?

Sarah: Looking back, it was probably one of our greatest advantages. We did not have industry rules telling us what we could or could not do. We approached everything from the perspective of a guest. We would simply ask ourselves, “What would we want?” and “What would our friends want?” That became our guide for everything.

Q: What does being “ready” look like today?

April: We have shifted our mindset.

Instead of asking, “Why can we not find the next property?” we ask, “What can we do right now to be ready when the right property appears?” That has changed everything. It means strengthening our systems, expanding our network, building advisors around us and continuing to improve what we already have.

"THE CHALLENGE IS REMEMBERING TO CELEBRATE HOW FAR YOU HAVE ALREADY COME." Q: Leadership seems to be a major part of your growth now. What has been the biggest lesson?

Sarah: Managing people. It is one of the most rewarding parts of the business and one of the most challenging.

We have learned that culture matters tremendously.

We have also learned that promoting from within has worked incredibly well for us. Both of our General Managers started within the organization. They understand the brand because they have lived it.

Q: The details at The June are noticeable. How do you maintain that level of consistency?

April: We realized that not everyone naturally sees details the same way we do. Things like lighting, candle placement, music volume, styling books on tables. Those details matter. So we created systems. We have a June Style Guide. Candles are lit at a specific time. Dimmers have markers showing exactly where lighting should sit.

We train people on what great looks like. The goal is not perfection. The goal is helping our team understand why those details matter.

Q: What has been the most difficult part of this journey?

Sarah: People. The human side of leadership is complex.

How do you help someone grow? How do you know when someone is not the right fit? How do you challenge people while supporting them? Those are questions we are constantly learning through.

Q: You have also remained close friends through all of this. What is the secret?

April: We share values. We share a vision. We spend time together. We challenge each other. We absolutely do not agree on everything, but I think that is a strength.

Some of our best decisions have come from debating ideas and pushing each other’s thinking. At the end of the day, we both want what is best for the business.

Q: What does success mean to you today?

Sarah: That is a hard question because the target keeps moving. I am proud of what we have built, but I am also excited about what we have not built yet. I think many entrepreneurs can relate to that. There is always another goal, another vision, another opportunity. The challenge is remembering to celebrate how far you have already come.

Q: And for you, April?

April: Honestly, a lot of it comes down to having fun.

Days like this are fun. Creating spaces is fun. Watching guests make memories is fun. The most rewarding moments are often the simplest ones. Looking out and seeing friends sitting around a campfire, roasting marshmallows, laughing together. Knowing that you helped create that moment. That never gets old.

Q: What is next for The June?

Sarah: More motels.

April: Definitely more motels. But first, we are focused on Prince Edward County. We are approaching June’s ten-year anniversary and we are reimagining parts of the property, redesigning rooms, adding a pool and creating new guest experiences. It feels like the next chapter.

While some wear SPF50 daily, others only apply sun protection when sunbathing, which is a major suncare mistake. Regardless of your age, skin type, or location, wearing SPF every day is non-negotiable. Sunscreen is vital to protect your skin against harmful UVA and UVB rays, which can still penetrate through the clouds, as well as windows, and can cause serious health issues.

Admittedly, finding the best face and body SPF can feel overwhelming. So, I spoke to consultant dermatologist, Dr

Aiza Jamil, to determine the best face and body SPF for all skin types, without leaving a pesky white cast. When shopping the best sunscreen for face and body there are two crucial factors to consider: the sun protection factor (SPF) and PA rating. SPF, which typically ranges from factor 4 to 50, “offers UVB protection, and measures how long it takes for the UVB rays to burn your skin”, explains Jamil. While the PA rating reflects “how much protection the formula offers against UVA rays”, which penetrate the skin’s dermis and can cause premature aging, as well as pigmentation. The PA rating ranges from PA+ to PA++++, though the higher, the better.

CHEMICAL vs MINERAL SUNSCREEN There are several differences between mineral and chemical SPF. Jamil explains: “Chemical sunscreen absorbs UV rays, converts them into heat, then releases that heat from the skin. Whereas mineral sunscreens form a shield on the skin’s surface and scatter UV rays away from the skin.”

Texture is another key difference. According to Jamil, chemical sunscreens tend to be lightweight and easier to blend, but can cause irritation. Whereas mineral sunscreens are typically thicker and can leave a white cast, as zinc oxide or titanium dioxide reflects light. Before you enjoy the sunshine, stock up on a broad-spectrum, non-comedogenic SPF50 with a high PA++++ rating for the face and body for maximum sun protection. Don’t forget to wear daily and reapply.

pritzer and Cartin had opposite skillsets, which turned out to be a winning recipe for building a business together. Cartin focused on sales and marketing, while Spritzer handled the operations and finance side of the business.

“We were working nights, weekends and every spare second helping our clients with social media strategy,” Spritzer said. “It got to the point where we were expanding so quickly that we were both working two full-time jobs.” Finally, they decided it was time to go all in. On May 4 of 2012, they both quit their corporate jobs, ready to fully invest in themselves and their business.

Spritzer and Cartin were learning as they went along. Neither of them had built a business before, and they had to quickly figure out how to conquer challenges that arose. “Our most important realization was recognizing that we didn’t need to build the business alone,” Cartin said.

Spritzer reached out to a family friend who gave them their first office space in exchange for helping with his company’s social media strategy. He then shared the most important words that stuck with them. “Let me help you”. He introduced them to his network-

ing group their first full time week in business, which set the stage for everything they would continue to accomplish for years to come.

From the moment Spritzer and Cartin entered the room, they knew they had found their people. Everyone was excited to build relationships and make connections. Spritzer and Cartin got a glimpse of what their future could be, and it was the first time they really experienced the magic of having a strong community. “We realized there is enough business for everyone to go around and collaboration over competition is the secret to success,” Spritzer said. As they began joining more networking groups, they saw their business take off. They invested in themselves and in their business from day one, and it paid off.

As Socialfly grew quickly into a 7-figure and award winning marketing agency, women founders began reaching out to Spritzer and Cartin to meet up for coffee chats. What they were looking for was mentorship and support and the formula to how they were able to grow their business so fast. “We quickly realized that it was physically impossible to meet up with everyone who reached out to us to meet and connect,” Cartin said. “But we knew that we wanted to help as many women as possible.” They began brainstorming ways they could scale their support for entrepreneurs while still running their own business.

t the end of 2018, Spritzer and Cartin decided to launch The Entreprenista Podcast. They envisioned a podcast where they could share women entrepreneurs’ expertise to guide others hoping to break into similar fields. They also wanted to give women entrepreneurs a platform to share their stories and position themselves as thought leaders.

While Entreprenista started as a podcast and Instagram account, it evolved into something much larger during the 2020 pandemic. With the uncertainty of the job market, countless women were reaching out trying to start their own businesses. Spritzer and Cartin knew that, more than ever, these women needed community.

In May of 2021, Spritzer and Cartin launched The Entreprenista League to provide founders with resources, community, visibility and support. “We designed Entreprenista to be everything we wish we had when we first started and were scaling, and everything we need now as founders in our next chapter,” Spritzer said. Their goal was to create a space where women founders could have direct access to the people, opportunities and visibility opportunities that are needed at all stages of business. The most important part was making sure that all members want to give first and grow together. That is the ethos of Entreprenista. Today, The Entreprenista League has expanded into a community of over 4,000 members inside the community with content on their media platform that is reaching millions of women every single month. From in person

events like Founders Weekend and local meetups to the Entreprenista 100 Awards program,their Expert and Approved programs, to their weekly podcast which is now in the top 1 percent of podcasts globally. This success has enabled The Entreprenista League to support and amplify the current and future generation of women entrepreneurs.

The company has created the Entreprenista 100 Awards, which recognizes 100 of the most ambitious and inspiring women founders every year. The Entreprenista League also hosts an annual Founders Weekend, where women entrepreneurs come together to connect, learn and grow. The retreat puts some of the most ambitious founders in the same rooms so they can exchange ideas, make connections and help each other scale to new heights.

"It is so rewarding when Stephanie and I receive text messages or see posts on social media about how Entreprenista has been life changing for women and their businesses," Spritzer said. What began as coffee chats has grown into a community of women entrepreneurs who are there to support and champion each other.

Spritzer and Cartin believe that in today’s business environment, community is the most powerful visibility and growth strategy. Cartin offered five takeaways for women entrepreneurs who are trying to build their brand and find new opportunities. First, she emphasized that thought leadership starts with contribution. “You don’t need to wait for media coverage to step into your role as a thought leader,” Cartin said. “Start by sharing what you know with your community.” That could mean offering to author an article or simply being active in online forums answering questions.

Cartin also highlighted that collaboration can amplify reach.

“It acts as a multiplier for visibility,” she said. “For example, founders can collaborate on social media posts, share each other’s products, and feature each other in their communications to customers.”

Cartin is quick to point out that opportunities come to those who step forward. She encourages founders to put themselves out there by joining panels, leading workshops, hosting local meet-ups and being a guest on podcasts. “Growth happens when you say yes, even to opportunities outside of your comfort zone,” she said.

Cartin noted that part of doing that is getting comfortable with recognition. Many communities have awards programs to recognize their members, but women founders are often hesitant to apply. “Women founders need to own their success and achievements,” Cartin said. “Winning an award can help build credibility, opening doors to new clients,

partnerships and funding opportunities.” She recalled how one Entreprenista 100 Award recipient was featured in over 35 publications including Time, Vogue and HuffPost after publicizing her achievement. She also was invited to speak on her local news channel and nominated for other awards in her field. Perhaps, most important, Cartin stressed that community helps keep founders consistent. This is critical, because building visibility is never a one-time effort. “A strong community keeps you accountable, motivated and engaged, even when your schedule is packed,” Cartin said. “By consistently showing up, sharing your expertise and making introductions, you create momentum over time.”

For Spritzer and Cartin, community is much more than a business. It is the byproduct of asking questions and relying on others to help make them and their business stronger. Through launching a social media agency over a decade ago and Entreprenista they have learned that the key to success in life and business is the community you surround yourself with.They continue to remind founders that you do not have to build a business alone. There is an entire community of business best friends, cheerleaders and support waiting for you right inside the Entreprenista League. As Cartin put it, “It is so much easier to build simultaneously, celebrating each other’s success, and helping achieve milestones together, and it’s also a lot more fun.”

here’s something incredibly liberating that happens when a woman stops performing and starts fully expressing herself instead.

Not for approval, not for attention, and not to fit into someone else’s idea of who she should be, but simply for herself. I think so many women spend years disconnected from who they really are because we’re conditioned to become what the world rewards. We learn how to be polished, agreeable, successful, accommodating, attractive, and composed. We learn how to make everyone else comfortable before we ever stop to ask ourselves what actually makes us feel alive.

I know I did.

For years, I tied so much of my identity to achievement, productivity, relationships, appearance, and proving myself. And while I built beautiful things during that time, there’s a huge difference between being successful and actually feeling free inside your own body and your own life. What surprises me most now is this: I have genuinely never felt more confident, more sensual, more comfortable in my body, or more fully myself than I do in my fifties. And honestly, that says a lot because women are taught from such a young age that confidence belongs to youth.

That beauty peaks early. That aging is something to fear instead of embody. Somewhere along the way, women begin shrinking themselves emotionally, creatively, physically, and spiritually because the world subtly tells us we’re supposed to become quieter as we get older.

I feel the complete opposite.

I feel more expansive now than I ever did in my thirties. Not because life suddenly became perfect, because it absolutely did

not, but because I finally stopped trying so hard to become someone else. The last several years brought a tremendous amount of change, heartbreak, healing, and reinvention into my life, and while those seasons were incredibly painful at times, they also forced me to confront who I actually was underneath all the noise. There’s something about starting over that strips away illusion. You stop performing because you’re too exhausted to keep pretending. You stop chasing perfection because you realize perfection was never the thing making you happy in the first place.

Little by little, I started reconnecting with parts of myself that had been waiting patiently underneath all the pressure and expectation. The creative part. The feminine part. The playful part.

The sensual part. The softer part. The wild part. I think women deeply crave spaces where we can feel fully expressed without judgment, where we can evolve without apologizing for it, and where we can be emotional, ambitious, beautiful, messy, nurturing, sexual, powerful, creative, and soft all at the same time.

Because that’s what being a woman actually is. Not one thing, but everything.

For me, expression has started showing up everywhere in my life lately, especially in the little things. It’s in the way I wear my hair now, which probably surprises nobody considering my lifelong obsession with hair. For years, polished hair represented success to me. Perfect blowouts, smoothness, control, everything looking “done.” Then something shifted. I started embracing more texture, more movement, and more imperfection. Less overly styled, less rigid, less controlled. I wanted hair that moved, hair that felt effortless, hair that looked lived in instead of perfected.

And surprisingly, I felt more beautiful that way. Freer. More sensual. More myself.

That evolution eventually inspired my new brand, Messy, because I realized how many women were craving the same thing. Texture instead of perfection. Ease instead of pressure.

Movement instead of rigidity. Freedom instead of control. I think the word “messy” scares women because we’ve been conditioned to believe we should always appear composed, but life is messy. Love is messy. Reinvention is messy. Healing is messy. Being fully expressed is messy too. And honestly, I’ve learned that some of the most beautiful parts of life exist inside that messiness. I see that same evolution reflected in how I dress now too.

I love vintage Levi’s because they feel real and broken in and imperfect in the best possible way.

I love cowboy boots with tiny dresses, oversized hats, soft fabrics, texture, movement, and pieces that feel expressive rather than overly curated. I don’t dress to look younger. I dress to feel like myself. There’s such freedom in that. The older I get, the less interested I am in shrinking myself to fit inside expectations that were never designed to make women feel free in the first place.

And honestly, I think that freedom becomes magnetic. Not performative confidence or attention-seeking energy, but real confidence. The kind that comes from finally knowing yourself. The kind that comes from feeling at home inside your own skin. That kind of confidence changes a woman completely. It changes how she speaks, how she loves, how she walks into a room, how she allows herself to be seen, and how deeply she trusts herself. I think one of the greatest gifts of getting older is realizing you no longer need permission to become yourself. You stop apologizing for evolving. You stop abandoning yourself for approval. You stop waiting to become “better” before fully living your life. And maybe most importantly, you stop seeing your body as something to constantly fix. I think women have spent far too long at war with ourselves physically. We analyze our bodies instead of inhabiting them.

We criticize ourselves endlessly instead of actually living inside

our lives. What I want now is entirely different. I want to feel connected to my body instead of critical of it. I want to feel connected to joy, creativity, pleasure, movement, love, beauty, and nature. That matters infinitely more to me than perfection ever did. Ironically, the more I’ve embraced myself exactly as I am, the more beautiful I’ve felt. Not because I became flawless, but because I became more expressed, more embodied, and more accepting of myself. There’s something incredibly attractive about women who feel alive in their own skin, and I don’t just mean physically attractive. I mean energetically attractive. Women who laugh loudly, dance freely, speak honestly, wear what they love, create boldly, and stop dimming themselves to fit into spaces they’ve already outgrown. I think many women believe freedom is something external, something we arrive at through success, relationships, or achievement, but the older I get, the more I realize freedom is internal first. It’s the decision to stop betraying yourself.

It’s trusting your instincts, your desires, your creativity, your evolution, your body, and your voice.

It’s allowing yourself to change without guilt and understanding that becoming more yourself is the entire point. That’s what this chapter of my life feels like for me. Less about proving and more about expressing. Less about perfection and more about presence.

Less about who I think I’m supposed to be and more about fully inhabiting who I already am.

At this point in my life, I’m not interested in perfection. I’m interested in feeling alive. I’m interested in beauty that feels soulful instead of performative, relationships that feel grounding instead of draining, style that feels expressive instead of trendy, and a life that feels deeply aligned instead of simply impressive from the outside. And for the first time in a very long time, I can honestly say I feel fully expressed as a woman.

Not because I finally figured everything out, but because I finally stopped hiding parts of myself along the way.

Dressing Ingredients: 3 tablespoons olive oil Rice vinegar Mayonnaise Garlic, minced or grated Sumac (or paprika) 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon black pepper Shallots, finely chopped Instructions: In a bowl, whisk together olive oil, rice vinegar, mayonnaise, garlic, sumac (or paprika), salt, and pepper.

Stir in shallots and set aside.

Instructions: Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large cast-iron skillet (or grill pan) over medium-high heat.

Add 3 ears of corn, roll in oil, and cook undisturbed for 4 minutes until lightly charred.

Toss and continue cooking in 3-minute intervals until charred to your liking (about 12 minutes total). Remove and let cool.

Once cooled, cut kernels off the charred corn and transfer to a large bowl.

Cut kernels from the remaining 2 raw ears of corn and add to the bowl.

Add avocado, jalapeño, basil, mint, pumpkin seeds, Cotija cheese, remaining salt, and pepper.

Pour dressing over the salad and toss to combine.

Garnish with extra herbs, seeds, and cheese if desired.

Instructions: In a large bowl, combine radicchio, kale, and romaine.

Add avocado, grapefruit, orange, and sunflower seeds.

Drizzle with vinaigrette and toss gently to combine.

Top with sunflower seeds and serve.

Instructions: In a small bowl or jar, combine shallots, garlic, Dijon mustard, lemon zest, and lemon juice.

Slowly whisk in the olive oil until emulsified.

Stir in salt and pepper.

Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

Set aside.

i my name is Tara Jade Fox. And this is my story. When I was eleven, I moved to a new state and soon found myself in an audition room ready to perform a piece I had prepared. The lines were memorized, song-pitch perfect, I even added a little choreography to it.

When my name was called, I encountered what I have phrased “the nightmare.” I froze and lost all shred of confidence. I forgot everything I had prepared, but with sheer willpower I pushed on, trudged my way over the hideous blue carpet that smelled of last weekend’s stale lunch, desperately trying to claw my way back to confidence. I watched in terror as the hand came down on the boom box to push play on the background music ready for my moment to shine, and all I did was stand there like a popsicle. Frozen. In terror. The whole world blank.

I was in the nightmare.

Later driving home with my parents, I felt horrendous, not because I didn’t do well, but because I KNEW I was better.

Even as I type this, I can recall that feeling in my gut; the pain

of knowing I could have done more, been better, shown up fully, to win.

I have carried that painful memory with me, not as a burden, but as fuel. For the moments when I must go past my comfort zone, for the moments I want to go home instead of going big.

When those moments come, when I feel myself overthinking, I remember eleven-year-old Tara and the fear of failure and the determination I now have to never let that repeat itself. I now choose to go big. I have trained my mental state not to fear the unknown, but to embrace it like a fire raging inside me.

After a small detour of growing up and getting a real job, I found my way back to acting professionally, first through voice over, then back to on camera TV and film, and stunts. In 2020, I got a phone call from my manager in LA asking if I wanted to be submitted for motion capture. Motion capture is the photos and behind the scenes footage you have seen on video games, and movies like Avatar. You wear these tiny, super tight Lycra suits with reflective dots, or markers as they are called, all over. It’s like stepping into a world of pure imagination. I was hooked! And in 2024, I won a SOVAS award.

I

took those acting and life lessons with me, and I forged the path to success with my business, proving that acting was exactly the right decision.

There is a saying in the industry that “actors are actors, so they can learn how to be human”. I have used acting lessons to be a better person, communicate more effectively, connect more authentically, to learn not to freeze up when things get uncomfortable, and even to push myself past barriers; both mental and physical.

I couldn’t stop thinking about how applicable all of this, and acting is to real life.

What if I could take those valuable lessons, those techniques actors use on the biggest movies and stages and bring them into “real life.” The boardrooms, the high Those thoughts became my catalyst for a lifetime of work, and led to the development of my proprietary framework called “Unforgettable: The Art of Connection” - with a deep focus on being authentically magnetic.

The biggest acting lesson is the art of connection. This is perhaps the most valuable life lesson. It teaches you how to authentically communicate and connect with another human being. Not just how to hold a conversation, or how to ice break a cold room, but how to crawl under someone’s skin and live there.

Chills are the most underused metric. They tell you when you are “on,” when you are at your most magnetic. We study these moments, learn how to harness them, and

chase them.

In life and in business, meeting people and networking isn’t enough. You need to be memorable. Every conversation isn’t going to end in a sale, a partnership, or a new lead. But will they remember you when the moment is right?

The Nightmare is not the moment of failure; the forgotten line, the botched pitch, the phone call that didn’t go as planned, or the meeting that turned hostile. It’s the moment right after when the panic sets in; the freeze.

The moment when you go straight into your head and get trapped there. The moment your body locks up, the moment you are desperate to hold on to control as you feel yourself spiraling.

Speaking of fear, having been stuck in many conferences in my life, what struck me was the number of talks where at the end you couldn’t really pinpoint how this talk benefited you. What good is a keynote if it doesn’t give you actionable takeaways you can start using that day? As a keynote speaker at events, I give easy acting hacks that you can start using the second the keynote ends. And as for acting? Current projects include lots of narration work, films, video games, animation, and incredible, powerful stunt work. Every day is a new character and a new set of circumstances to acclimate to. It truly is a world of pure imagination! I love getting to immerse myself in the lives and challenges of my clients, finding creative solutions, whether I am in their world for a day, or a full out immersive retreat, the commitment is the same. Tucked out of site, tempting aromas drift from the onsite bakery which supplies the pastries and breads for the restaurant. here comes a point in a woman’s life when she begins to recognize that she has been living in fragments. From the outside, everything may appear full. She is building, leading, contributing and showing up in ways that are visible and admirable. She is responsible, capable and often defined as successful. Yet beneath all of that, there is a quieter awareness that something is being held back. It is not obvious. It is not dramatic. It lives in the subtle ways she edits herself before she speaks, the way she tempers her reactions and the way she considers how she will be perceived before she considers what is actually true for her. This is how partial expression takes shape. It rarely begins with a conscious decision to hold back. It is learned over time through environments that reward likability, composure and agreement. A woman becomes skilled at reading the room. She develops a sensitivity to tone, timing and other’s expectations.

It requires self trust that is not dependent on external approval. It requires the willingness to be seen in a way that is not perfectly controlled. It requires the understanding that being fully expressed will not create universal agreement. It will create clarity. There is a version of every woman who already knows how to do this. She has felt it in moments of certainty, in conversations where her words landed exactly as they needed to and in decisions that felt immediate and clear. This version does not need to be created. She needs to be accessed. The work is not learning how to become someone new. The work is recognizing where she has been overriding herself and choosing differently. Full expression transforms the way a woman experiences her life and the way life experiences her.

A return to a woman who trusts her own voice. A return to a woman who moves with clarity. A return to a woman who no longer separates who she is from how she lives. This is what it means to be fully expressed. It is not something reserved for a future version of you. It is available at every moment you choose to stop holding yourself back. That choice changes everything and that is what I stand for every day with my own personal growth as well as the work I do with so many women. This is our time.
