MEET ALEXA BOWDITCH, WHO IS ACROSS THE GLOBE

How did you become a Sex Coach and Expert?

I'm from South Louisiana I had a Catholic upbringing Sex was one of, if not the most, taboo subjects imaginable. I learned to repress my big emotions and my expression, I experienced deep shame as a child, I was bullied in high school, and I felt completely lost as a young woman trying to navigate my way through life. Sex felt complex and my body (and how I did or did not use it) felt like the only marker of my value

When I look back, I can see how my life led me to this work.

Sure, I have a degree from a big University, but the majority of what I use in my practice has come from the countless mentors I have sought along the way to help me understand myself on a deeper level. Partner all of that with me being a big empathetic feeler who holds space really well, and you've got the makings of a great, down-to-Earth Sex Coach

Women have chosen to make each other the villain versus doing the necessary healing work required to come back into harmony with their bodies, with each other, and with nature. And many women do not realize they are doing this. Many women don’t realize how much they crave connection and physical closeness with other women.

A multitude of reasons Many women today have been passed down ways of being and believing from a long line of generations before them For some of the women who came before them, it was unsafe to be fully expressed - mental institution diagnosed with hysteria For some women, if they followed their intuition, the cyclical nature of bodies, and their deep connection with the moon and Mother Earth, they were believed to be witches and possibly burned before their communities In more recent generations, women were taught that men couldn’t control their urges and that they were imminently in danger of being preyed upon, so they needed to dress and act a certain way.

Women have looked at each other as competition and threats.

Women have chosen to make each other the villain versus doing the necessary healing work required to come back into harmony with their bodies, with each other, and with nature.

And many women do not realize they are doing this Many women don’t realize how much they crave connection and physical closeness with other women

When women are taught that their being puts their lives at risk, they disconnect in an attempt to protect themselves. In reality, a woman holds so much power inside of her body, she literally creates life from a single cell.

All of this leads to repressed emotions, detachment from sensations, and a deep estrangement from sexuality.

“We live in a man’s world” is very true in a lot of regards (and let me be clear - I am very much a lover of men!), however, this way of living keeps people more in their logical, productive brain and less in their sensual, feeling bodies and that leads to disconnect from sexuality and our various ways of sexual expression.

This is a big question with many answers!

Why do you feel so many woman are and their sexuality?

She can slow her life down Push less, or at least intentionally go into seasons of doing followed by seasons of being.

She can take the time to seduce herself and treat herself the way she’d like her lover to treat her

She can check where she may be attempting to hold or control everything in her life (masculine energy) and work with her partner (if she has one) to hold her accountable to surrendering to the flow of life and the flow of what is (feminine energy)

My husband has a line he says from time to time“everything is better after sex”. What he means is that sex often harmonizes us.

We collaborate easier, make better decisions, and generally feel more at ease with each other when we are intentional with our sexual intimacy. If too many days go by without some significant “us time”, we really feel it

When we are feeling connected and our conversations are going over smoothly, we are showing up for each other in meaningful ways - everything in our life is better. And sex is a big part of that. Everyone will have their perfect amount of sex For us, it’s somewhere between 2 and 3 times per week Most of the sex we have is planned because we know that with our busy lives, we will often skip right over potential sexy time just to check something off the to-do list.

What are the top three ways you stay excited and passionate within your own relationship with Jordan?

Jordan and I are really intentional with our relationship. We try to do a Relationship Check-In every Sunday so we can get logistically on the same page with our week ahead. We talk about where I am at in our cycle, our general happiness in the relationship, how we could support each other better, and what type of intimacy we’d like to experience in the upcoming week.

ONECOZY MOVIE NIGHT

My husband and I love to do this together during the winter months. We push back our living room furniture, put a mattress on the floor, cover it with a big faux fur blanket and cozy up for a movie night. I recommend adding in finger foods that you can feed each other, your favorite bottle of sparkling and light as many candles as possible to set the stage for a romantic movie night.

BEST FRIEND POTLUCK

Bring your friends together to celebrate your love for each other and ask each of them to bring their signature dish. It isn’t about coordinating the dishes or making sure you have one of everything. Allow each of them to create something they love and share it with you. You may have all dips or all salads but that is what makes it fun and perfect. A heart shaped pizza is always a win for the kids. We often celebrate valentines with allowing each of our kids to order their own personal heart shaped pizza (the leftovers are great for lunches the next day). While we wait for the pizzas, I melt dark chocolate to dip big juicy strawberries into and cool them in the fridge for dessert. It is a special family experience and something we all look forward to.

This memory has been sparked again for me. I use to do this all the time and plan on bringing it back. Swap years with your partner so every other year you are responsible for planning a date for Valentines and the opposing years, you get to be surprised. I firmly believe in creating memories so rather than giving gifts to open, give the gift of a memory to each other. It adds surprise and romance to both sides of the equation. I enjoy the act of planning something special and surprising him and I also love receiving the effort that my husband put into creating a perfect evening together.

THOUGHTFUL CONNECTION

We all know someone who is alone during Valentines Day and although I don’t like to play into the potentiality of someone feeling lonely because they may be perfectly contented, I do love to see and celebrate others. This is a perfect opportunity to invite someone over for a casual dinner. Set the stage with gorgeous flowers on a well set table, a hand written love letter to them and a great conversation. This fills everyone’s hearts on a day where we recognize how love exists in many different ways.
