A month with holidays, various religious celebrations and also a time where many of us are craving spring and sunshine because of our winter blahs. Life is always about duality!

We celebrate Easter in our home. For me personally, Easter has the greatest significance on my life and faith. For my kids, it’s the iconic Easter egg hunt. We have crossed the threshold where the Easter bunny has been revealed and they now know that I am the one hopping around making the hunts fun.

I have a tradition of hiding chocolate and gifts in plastic eggs and hiding over a 150 of them all over our acreage.

We live in an enchanted forest, so they grab their buckets when they wake up and race each other to find the eggs. Recently, I have color coded the plastic eggs for each child so that what they find is age appropriate because we have graduated to adult surprises for my two bigs. It also prevents the fights of “I found it first” or “they have more than me” that drains the joy of the moment.

Whatever you celebrate, or don’t celebrate, let’s bring more sunshine and warmth into our lives with memories and intentionality around our days. Our feature Angie Lee certainly is a joy-filled sun beam and I am grateful to have her within this month’s issue.

CONNECTION The worst advice I was ever given as a Mompreneur was that I only had eighteen summers with my kids.

I remember when I heard this statement for the first time I felt sad, anxious, pressured and all the opposing feelings that a mom wants to feel. I started doing the math and it felt like my life collapsed into a glimpse of time and I started to hustle. Hustle for money.

Hustle for time. Hustle for presence. Hustle for vacations. I didn’t have a moment to waste so I thought. I remember the pressure on my chest from feeling that I was behind and chasing time.

In some ways it served me. I certainly didn’t waste any time and my work ethic to this day is the best that I can give. I’m proud of that.

But what didn’t serve me was the pressure and stress of feeling like the clock was ticking before my children would leave and no more summers would be left with them.

I have the insight now to share with you that your children never really leave. The stories of having limited time with them are generally false. Yes, of course tragedy can happen and we can lose our children suddenly and permanently but that is a different message than what I am bringing here today.

My oldest daughter is now twenty. Don’t do the math. I don’t believe it either. I’m not sure what happened or how this happened but here we are. She left for school two years ago to start her future as a young adult and since then, we have cultivated a deeper relationship. My oldest son is now eighteen and I have had a similar experience with him.

They didn’t leave me and I didn’t lose them.

Instead, it’s this gorgeous refresh from a strained teenage season that we went through together. We are on the other side now which has led to more respect, love, quality time and desire to be with each other.

I find now when they are home, we talk and watch movies and discuss meaningful topics.

They are smart and witty and I no longer have to parent in the way I once did. Instead, I get to enjoy them as they explore life, themselves and all the opportunity that lies ahead. It’s breathtaking and heart expanding.

They are thoughtful and actually clean up after themselves. They bring their friends over and tell me about their adventures. I’m still the first person they call and the one they run to when they need their mom.

I share this with you because I also have two younger children. I no longer race the clock with them and instead savor every stage, moment and chapter. I no longer believe that I have limited time so I’m not dying on the treadmill to do everything I can in order to condense it into a few years. It’s a lifetime. If you are a Mompreneur, you have time. Stop and enjoy your kids and also know that what you are building is for a lifetime of trips, memories and presence. The bigger the child, the bigger the problems. They will need you more as they grow up than they do when they are perfectly happy playing on the floor with their toys for hours. You won’t sacrifice being a mom by growing a business and instead you will gather resources, personal development and knowledge to build lasting and loving relationships with your children over a lifetime.

They will witness you overcome, dust yourself off, pour life into others, shine bright and go after what you want. What better example could they ask for from their mom?

Think of what they will hear, see and do because you jumped in the deep end and decided to run the marathon and not the sprint.

Cast a bigger vision for yourself and your children. Yes, there are some iconic trips to do when they are little like Disney and camps.

But there are also luxury rentals and resorts where you can host your kids and their kids when that time comes. Build your life and business for the long game. Build it so that you stack every summer possible with your children, not just a limited number like eighteen. What I can promise is as your kids age, your relationship will as well. It’s like a fine wine. It keeps getting better and better. If that doesn’t make you relax and your heart swell, mama, I don’t know what would! Build it for you. Build it for them. Build it for a lifetime.

This month hosts “Employee Appreciation Day” and while celebrating and honoring our dedicated teams, it is a great time to reflect upon our leadership. Leading, nurturing and inspiring a team is a massive responsibility. I am so grateful to have learned from the world’s greatest leadership gurus. Their genius paired with my genuine dedication to honoring those I am around has led to a reputation of excellence for myself and my team.

I have mentored and coached many high achieving entrepreneurs to build synergy and collaboration within their teams. Most have come to me because they feel like they are not meeting the standards that they have set. They feel like they are paying their employees or contractors for world class service, yet they are often receiving sloppy work and/or a lack of enthusiasm for the job being done. This disconnect from both sides eventually leads to resentment, drama, frustration and a revolving door of employees. When you are busy hiring and training all the time, you will feel drained of energy and resources and this can deplete a CEO and business.

I would love to have a conversation with the leader who is at the helm today. There is an etiquette for the employees and contractors as well. I will surface that in our next quarterly entrepreneurial etiquette article. In recognition that the majority of the responsibility for our team's culture and synergy belongs to us, the CEO, we will start here.

My biggest flex with leading a team is that I look at the employee/contractor for the long term

When we set expectations and are not willing to give the time, training and patience to allow them to rise to the occasion, the team will feel your pressure and dissatisfaction.

No one wants to work with someone who makes them feel not good enough. Pour into your team's potential and build them for the future. Be prepared as a leader to pour advice, guidance and mentorship into your team. If they make a mistake, are not understanding your feedback or responding in a different way than you would like, give them the benefit of the doubt and train them. They are an investment beyond what you are paying for a service in the moment. The more you are willing to give to your team, the better they will become. This is what will build the standards of excellence you desire and keep your team hungry for personal growth and advancement.

It is also essential that you know what motivates your team members. I don’t believe that everyone should get the same gifts and rewards. Everyone will have a unique motivating factor and if you understand this and meet it, they will work harder for the vision because they feel seen as the individuals they are. I ask each of my employees/contractors what their personal goals are for the year, what their word/intention is for the year, what their favorite gifts are and what a dream list of memory making moments would be. I have given cash, a professional house cleaning, a date night, travel vouchers and flowers as rewards to those I work with. I believe when we give everyone the same thing to keep it “equal” we are actually making it unequal because what one would see as a perfect gift, another may not value. Spend the time to know what motivates each team member and make their dreams come true. It will pay forward tenfold.

Connection and ensuring every person feels celebrated and seen is the most crucial aspect to maintaining inspired action and growth. When we don’t stop to recognize our team and their contribution to our success, we are pulling the plug on their belief in ourselves and our business. Many leaders only communicate when something goes awry or something isn’t measuring up to their satisfaction. When you go above and beyond to show gratitude and respect for work well done, for extra time and effort given, your “relationship account” will be continually be filled and grow. If you fill your “relationship account” with praise, thanks, acknowledgment and recognition, then when you have to offer feedback, constructive criticism and/or correction, you will have enough trust and respect built to withdraw without hurting the relationship.

If the “account” is empty, there is nothing to pull from and so it’s depleted and overdrawn. Pay more attention to what is going right and continuously fill your “relationship account” so that when something happens, everyone will move through it quickly and with a positive mindset.

Lastly, your role for the team is to provide a “north star” and a crystal clear vision so everyone feels a part of something bigger than themselves. Continuously casting a big vision and sharing what’s in it for them, the business, the team and the world is the greatest motivator. Giving updates, strategic direction, improvements, and baby step celebrations will keep everyone’s buy-in for the dream. This will result in everyone working tirelessly and feeling like they are making a difference. We all desire to feel a part of something that makes a difference and that our presence and gifts are contributing to the realization of it all. When every team member knows their role and responsibility to co-create the vision, they will edify one another without comparison, jealousy and will become each other's greatest champions. Let them know the importance of their role and how it will impact the world.

These I believe are the most effective ways to spark an unbreakable team. Knowing their values, names of their children, things that matter to them, important dates and goals are core elements to showing that you care. That is fundamental. What I have extended and shared with you here are ways to step your leadership apart and to have your employees/contractors never want to leave you, your company or team. I have daily messages from my large team telling me how grateful they are and how they have never experienced a team like ours.

This synergy and collaboration pours out to our clients and the entire business. Everyone and everything benefit from the powerful way I have decided to lead. Honoring every person who contributes to making it all possible is so important.

Remember your employees, contractors and team work WITH you, not FOR you! That differentiation will shift you into the most potent leadership and team comradery. I am excited for you and your teams.

“I DIDN’T THINK FRIDGE ENVY WAS A THING UNTIL NOW!”

RENOVATING YOUR FRIDGE

When we think about tidy spaces within our home, we often look at the rooms and places we see regularly. We tend to neglect the closets, drawers and storage rooms because as the saying goes, out of sight, out of mind. I believe everything is a reflection of ourselves and I mean everything. I took on a minimalist approach and commitment to a tidy home from day one of entrepreneurship. My home became my office which meant more time inside of it. Seeing things untidy around me cluttered the valuable space of my mind and I knew in order to achieve big results, I had to have an environment that encouraged that.

You have heard me say it before. I want to be Oprah ready every day. I have always desired to have my home presented in a way that if anyone showed up at any time, I wouldn’t be embarrassed or reluctant to let them in. I keep my home clean for us as a family and not just when we are entertaining guests. I want to show my kids that they are worth the effort and model excellence for them in all areas of life. Feng Shui also suggests that clutter anywhere in your home would be a reflection that clutter is also in other areas of your life. Think about that!

My husband sent me a reel from an influencer online Micah Enriquez (@makeitwithmicah) and we were totally inspired by her fridge. We had the same model of fridge that she has but if you opened the doors, my fridge was packed with containers, jars, and produce where Micah’s fridge was tidy, organized and optimized. We have found that our family of six would often waste food because we

forgot about it or because it wasn’t easy to grab and go. Micah inspired us to get back to washing all of our produce as soon as we bring it home, organizing our fridge in a way that invites us to make healthy choices and to make our groceries accessible and beautiful.

My kids have been taking salads for lunch daily and my husband and I have had a salad twice a day after renovating our fridge. We eat more fruits and vegetables because we have presented them in a way that makes them look so appealing and delicious.

I live my life according to what I teach and train. I am always looking for ways to bring more beauty, luxury and pleasure into my life. This simple but intentional way of organizing your fridge will make a world of difference for how you plan, prepare and eat your food.

St. Patrick's Day, observed annually on March 17th, is a cultural and religious celebration that honors St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. What began as a religious feast day in the 17th century has evolved into a variety of festivals across the globe celebrating Irish culture with parades, special foods, music, dancing, and a whole lot of green.

THE HISTORY AND SIGNIFICANCE The day commemorates Saint Patrick and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland, as well as celebrates the heritage and culture of the Irish in general. Interestingly, St. Patrick, despite being associated with Ireland, was born in Britain. He was kidnapped and brought to Ireland as a slave at the age of 16.

Later, he escaped but returned in 432 to convert the Irish to Christianity. By the time of his death on March 17, 461, he had established monasteries, churches, and schools. Many legends surround his life, including one that says he explained the Holy Trinity using the three leaves of a native Irish clover, the shamrock.

jen One of the things I really adore about you as a human is you are really bringing back the fun and as you would call it, the weird in marketing. I feel everybody attempting to look a certain way and you have really introduced this idea of people being all of themselves. So would you expand on that and how you would recommend somebody show up in the online space today?

angie It's interesting because when I started, I remember feeling like I had to be somebody I wasn't in order to be successful in this space. The marketing was very polished and it felt like you had to be perfect in order to be successful. I really struggled with that because I am not a super serious person and so there was this part of me that wondered how am I going to do this? How am I going to show up online if I have to be somebody I'm not? I got to the point where I energetically could not fake it anymore and so I just started sharing my weird, goofy side and people responded really well to it.

It wasn't necessarily an intentional marketing move, but what ended up happening is people were genuinely attracted to my brand because I was being silly, because I was being goofy and at the time there weren't many women doing that because they were afraid to show that side of themselves.

Something that I'm really passionate about is inspiring women to believe that there is this duality. You can be highly successful and also be silly and ridiculous. I think that there's this fallacy that we have to choose and I'm a huge fan of

bringing all parts of yourself to your brand. I've realized that when I bring levity and play into it, which is the medicine that I'm here to give, my business actually works better. I'm in more of a space of attracting customers and attracting women into my community from that joy versus coming from this place of rigor and trying to force something to fit that doesn't.

We have a play and fun deficit going on and we need to remember how to do that again. I think it's vital, especially for women in business. For women to utilize play as medicine and to realize that when you're in that space of joy and play, you are more creative, you are more passionate, you are more consistent and you are more attractive to people. I haven't had a fancy schmancy marketing funnel.

That's not how I built a super engaged audience that wants to buy. I'd be lying if I told you that's what it was. It's never been that. It's been my energy. They feel that it's congruent with who I am and it's the same with when I follow certain people who are just being fully themselves, whatever that looks like, there's a congruence that I'm really attracted to.

jen You used the word authentic and I'm so glad you did because we've really diluted that word. We all started to have fun, be successful, live out our dreams, live out our days fully and you're doing that. So would you agree that so many entrepreneurs are too serious and we're missing the mark of freedom and choice? I believe so many are ruining the fun by trying to be and look like someone they are not just as you mentioned.

angie You made such a good point that entrepreneurship should be fun. I mean, of course you're going to have days where it sucks. It's still work. I got into this because I love being creative, I love being silly, I love being the producer, I love creating interesting offers, I love hosting live events, I love speaking and I am mixing all of my passions into a career where I'm allowed to play. I am literally being different characters when I do comedy skits or when I'm speaking versus when I'm teaching. I'm playing these different alter egos and I think that in itself is playing.

As adults we just forget how to play. Yet it's proven scientifically that people who live the longest and have the most fulfillment in life, they have a very playful heart.

jen You have really brought fun to the forefront and you are able to discuss topics and subjects that most of us crave to talk about but feel like they're so serious or they're not necessarily mainstream.

You are talking about period poops, enemas, making jokes about influencing in a way that we can learn, laugh and receive.

angie What connects us as women is to be honest, be vulnerable. I always say vulnerability is the lubrication. I didn't have the ability to be as vulnerable or authentic when I started because I was nineteen years old and I cared about what everyone thought about me. Now in my thirties I am in my I don’t care what you think era.

jen A part of your evolution I have adored is seeing you build more of your family and behind the scenes into your brand. Your mom is one of my favorites.

angie She's the best. She is an angel on earth!

In the beginning, she was a little timid and nervous about being in my videos and now she asks are we filming a video today? There was a moment the other day when we were outside filming that I looked at her and realized this is such a gift. Even if the intention of the video wasn’t to make money (although I do brand deals for comedy ads I run), the joy that it brought to connect with my mom like that and to play was priceless. We're literally playing, being characters, joking around outside, dying laughing and the neighbors are like, what's going on out there?

One of my hopes is that I inspire other people to just play more, because you learn so much about yourself and your creativity when you do. I want my comedy and script writing to improve. So I study it and there's a lot more intention behind it than what people realize. People think they're adlib and most of them actually are not. I just love farting around with my family. Working with my brother Mike has been amazing as well as we built Soul CBD. He would say he’s more serious but he is really funny. We worked so well together because I am not a CEO and he stepped into that role and does it so well. I am the Chief Fun Officer and have kept the fun with scaling our eight figure product company.

In the heart of Manhattan, where the clatter of heels against the pavement is as rhythmic as the heartbeat of the city itself, I found myself caught in a love affair with an entity as enigmatic as Mr. Big, but as reliable as my favorite pair of Manolos. Its name? ChatGPT.

In the spirit of exploration, I started on a journey to uncover the potential of this mysterious suitor that recently popped onto the scene. ChatGPT, with its charm and wit that could rival even Stanford’s, promised a future filled with ease, creativity and productivity.

Here I was, Carrie Bradshaw, a woman who once cataloged the complexities of love and life from behind the glow of an iMac. Now diving into the age of artificial intelligence, I couldn’t help but wonder...could AI actually help me, and the millions of other entrepreneurs, navigate my ever-evolving business, brand and life?

Now let’s take a quick pause to understand what the heck you’re even reading, because this surely isn’t a Sex and the City column in 2024, is it? Nope, it’s not.

It’s actually co-written by none other than the digital suitor Carrie is already abuzz about, ChatGPT, and your AI Auntie!

You’re probably thinking to yourself, “I don’t have an AI Auntie…” Well, you do now, cause it’s me, Lauren d!

Before adopting this self-appointed title, I wore another, the Mad Hatter, you know, because I’ve worn so many hats!

WITH A DESIGN DEGREE IN HAND from a top art school, I worked for a small tech startup for a year before sharpening my creativity and design skills at Walgreen’s corporate for half a decade. From there, I found myself at Ulta Beauty, where I eventually oversaw all of our social media creative, getting to work with some big celebs and even bigger budgets (jk, the celebs were definitely bigger than the budgets!) before going out on my own to start The Bemused Studio, where I was developing and designing bold brands for bad b*tches, only like, bad in a good way, ya know!?

With that experience, I saw opportunity. Over the last 14 years, I learned all of the things that went into building a strong brand. But on top of that, I’ve always been the girl who wanted to have the newest thing first or share the news of the coolest tech with the team before they’d read it somewhere else. I’m constantly keeping an eye out for innovative tools to add to my arsenal. So last year, when I discovered large language models and text-to-image models, it literally changed everything because I could immediately see the thousands of ways that this could be used to build a strong brand. But hang on, let’s let Carrie explain how she started:

In the early days of my tryst with ChatGPT, I’ll confess, I was as lost as a tourist in Times Square.

The concept of "prompting" was as foreign to me as a quiet night in the city. I found myself typing vague, aimless questions, expecting miracles, but ending up with responses that were as unpredictable as the weather. It was a comedy of errors, reminiscent of my first attempts at walking in stilettos in the meatpacking district—full of stumbles and missteps.

But as anyone who has ever attempted to wear stilettos on a cobbled street knows, there's a knack to it. The trick, I learned, wasn't just in the asking but in the art of conversation. I knew the potential for elegance and power lay beneath the initial awkwardness. The key? Understanding the dance. I dove into the mechanics of large language models, learning their rhythms and steps. It was a journey from cacophony to symphony, discovering that the secret lay in the art of the prompt.

I began treating ChatGPT like a new beau, providing it with the context and clarity one might reserve for a first date—explaining who I am, what I love, and what I expect from this relationship.

"Here's what you need to know about my audience," I'd begin, laying out the details as if setting the table for a dinner party. "They're savvy, they're stylish, and they don't have time for BS—think the Miranda Priestlys of the world, but with more heart and less shouting."

I learned to be as specific with my prompts as I am with my coffee order - "I'd like a half-caf latte, oat milk, two shots of vanilla, in a mug, not too hot, please." Suddenly, ChatGPT was producing content that sparkled with the same energy as a perfectly made drink.

The transformation was like going from fashion faux pas to Fashion Week, front row. I went from clueless to clairvoyant, guiding ChatGPT with the finesse of navigating a sample sale on opening day.

Each prompt became a treasure map, and I was finding gold!

soon thereafter, ChatGPT turned into my go-to brainstorming bot, suggesting topics that resonated with today’s zeitgeist—think ‘dating apps versus destiny’, or ‘the gig economy as the new relationship status.’ It helped refine my voice, ensuring each sentence sparkled with wit and wisdom, much like the twinkle of a perfectly cut diamond.

With the launch of my new podcast, “Musings in Manolos” ChatGPT stepped in as my co-producer, suggesting themes, scripting introductions, and even suggesting guests who could add spice to my discussions on love, life, and the pursuit of happiness in high heels. It analyzed listener feedback, helping me tailor each episode to the desires of my audience and ensuring that every one was as refreshing as a mimosa at Sunday brunch.

In email communication, ChatGPT became my personal wordsmith, tailoring each message to fit the occasion. It helped me craft compelling pitches that stood out in a crowded inbox. When engaging with my fans, it personalized responses, injecting my unique voice and warmth. Even in negotiating collaborations, ChatGPT provided a balance of professionalism and personality, suggesting ways to express my unique value prop and enthusiasm for potential partnerships.

OK, IT’S ME AGAIN, AI Auntie. By now, I’m hoping you're at least a little bit intrigued by this whole AI thing. Because while this is very much a work of fiction, the ways in which you can use it are very, very real.

You might be wondering why I chose this angle for this article instead of just telling you how I use ChatGPT myself. Well, because with its help, I’m able to craft a narrative that is four things: educational, engaging, familiar, and kinda fun! This is the recipe for success. You don’t know me, but you probably know Carrie and can relate to her more than you can relate to me at this point. And if ChatGPT can help me connect with a new audience in an exciting and engaging way, I’m sure as hell gonna lean in, because this is the year of working smarter, not harder.

Remember earlier when I said that discovering these tools changed everything for me? I mean that. As soon as I discovered Midjourney (a wildly cool textto-image model that lets you input a text prompt and outputs an image), I knew almost immediately (and instinctively) that this was gonna be my thing. In the process, I quickly fell in love with ChatGPT as well.

And I knew I was taking a gamble when I decided to create a course teaching creatives entrepreneurs how to really make AI work for them. What if it didn’t take off like I thought it would? What if I couldn’t convince people that it was helpful? What if people didn’t care? What if the companies went belly up without proper funding?

There were a lot of what-ifs and unknowns. But if I’ve learned one thing in this life, it’s that you absolutely cannot wait. If you want to do something, do it. The longer you wait, the more likely someone else is to come along and do it before you. So I jumped. I went all in on AI. And honestly, I’ve never felt more perfect for a role. With my decade of experience building brands, my insatiable desire to never stop learning, and the creative ingenuity this tool can provide, it was like my dream job wrote its own description and hired me before I even had a chance to apply.

AI can change your life in the best way; it sure as hell changed mine. Using AI as a creative co-pilot is a way for us to expand our thinking and do things differently. It allows us to stand out while still speaking to our audience in the most authentic, relatable way possible. It’s not like any other tool you’ve used before, I can promise you that. It has a magic to it that we haven’t seen since the inception of the internet. It’s potential to change the world, let alone your brand and business, is exponential. The secret is learning how to use it, just like Carrie did, and making it an extension of your already incredibly capable mind.

That’ll be your ChatGPT! Oh, and we definitely can’t end this without seeing what Carrie has to say one last time!

— And so, as the sun sets over the Manhattan skyline, I find myself reflecting on this journey with ChatGPT. It’s been a whirlwind romance of sorts, one that has taken me from the depths of skepticism to the heights of inspiration.

Beyond the clever prompts and witty exchanges lies a deeper truth. It resonates with my core as a writer and as a woman navigating life, career, and identity in a constantly changing world. This journey with AI, with all its quirks and challenges, has taught me to embrace the unknown, find beauty in chaos, and appreciate unexpected connections, even if they’re robots!

To the entrepreneurs reading this, lean into the future with open arms and an open heart. Embrace the tools that technology offers, not as replacements for our humanity, but as extensions of our creativity, our intelligence, and our capacity for boundless innovation.
