However, the very institution that was designed to bring people together has, at times, been responsible for ostracizing those who challenge the status quo or present innovative ideas.

One prominent example of this phenomenon can be seen in the life of Jesus Christ himself.

As Jesus began his ministry, he quickly gained a reputation as a powerful healer and charismatic teacher. However, his radical teachings and challenges to the established religious authorities soon made him a target of persecution. Now, nearly 40 years later, we see a tragic parallel in the case of Sonya Massey, a 36-year-old Black woman who was killed by a white deputy inside her Illinois home.

Both cases serve as painful reminders of the need for systemic change in policing and the protection of Black women.

The Story of Alexzina Griffin: In 1984, law enforcement officers responding to a domestic violence call mistakenly entered the home of Alexzina Griffin, a Black woman. The officers' intrusion resulted in severe injuries to Alexzina, including a broken mouth that required wiring shut. Though her family sued the City of Rochester and eventually won the case, the emotional trauma of the experience lingers to this day.

Word Wednesday Nugget Right Place, Right Time Rebekah McCloud I have a pet peeve. I hate looking for things. When I find them, I assign them a place, the right place. A place for everything and everything in its place. My family is amazed that I can tell them exactly where things are around my house; I can even tell them what’s in the junk drawer. This is probably because of my leftbrain dominance, a smidge of OCD, and my love of order, lists, and routines. This structure helps me to have productive and successful days. It works just right for me.

God wants each of us to be productive and successful. He establishes our steps (Proverbs 16:9), he has plans to prosper us (Jeremiah 29:11), and he assures us if we stumble, we will not fall (Psalms 37:23-24). We need to be well-positioned.

Found 27 times in the Old Testament, the Hebrew word Qarah (kah-raw) means being in the right place at the right time and position for the right happenings.

Abraham’s servant prayed for qarah. In Genesis 24:12, he prayed, “O Lord God of my master Abraham, please give me success [qarah] this day, and show kindness to my master Abraham.” He was successful. Esther was at the right place at the right time (Esther 4: 8-16). Philip was at the right place at the right time (Acts 8: 26-40). Nehemiah was at the right place at the right time (Nehemiah 1: 1-11). Like them, we need to be well-positioned.

Positioning requires that we understand there is a season for everything (Ecclesiastes 3:1) and a proper time and procedure for every matter (Ecclesiastes 8:6). It is important to be in the right place at the right time.

Ecclesiastes 9:11 says, "I have observed something else under the sun. The fastest runner doesn’t always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn’t always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy. And those who are educated don’t always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time.”

Being well-positioned takes intentional work. It starts with making sure our hearts are right. Matthew 12:34 says, “For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” Proverbs 25: 11-12 says, "Saying the right thing at the right time is like a golden apple in a silver setting. Wise advice to a listening ear is like gold earrings or fine jewelry.” Like David, let us ask God to “create in me a clean heart,” (Psalm 51:10).

Sometimes the blessing, our success, is right in front of us, but we are not positioned to see it. Instead of digging for gold in a silver mine, let us work at being in the right place at the right time. Trust God and know, “When the time is right I, the Lord, will make it happen,” (Isaiah 60:22).

In today's society, it has become increasingly apparent that our devotion to the Church may be rooted more in celebrity culture, the pursuit of power, and material wealth than genuine reverence for the divine. The example of King David serves as a reminder that even biblical figures grappled with the allure of worldly pleasures and the consequences of misguided actions.

Our obsession with pastors as celebrities can cloud our spiritual judgment and create an environment where we prioritize charisma over character. We must remain vigilant in ensuring that our devotion is directed toward God and not individuals who may exploit their positions of power.

The pursuit of wealth and influence within the Church can also lead to moral compromise and a distorted sense of priorities. The Church should serve as a refuge for those seeking spiritual guidance and support, not a platform for self-aggrandizement or financial gain.

Reexamining Our Allegiances: A Call for Self-Reflection in the Church It is crucial for us as Christians to examine our motives and question whether our actions align with biblical teachings. We must be wary of the temptations that come with power and resist the urge to justify our actions by invoking God's name. As the Church faces challenges in maintaining its moral compass, we must remember the lessons of King David, who ultimately repented and sought redemption.

In conclusion, let us collectively engage in self-reflection and refocus our energies on fostering genuine spiritual growth, humility, and compassion within the Church. By remaining steadfast in our commitment to God and resisting worldly distractions, we can build a community that embodies the true values of our faith.

In the Christian faith, the line between what constitutes sin and what does not often depends on interpretation, context, and denominational beliefs. The Bible provides guidance on various moral issues but leaves room for personal conviction and spiritual growth. While the definition of sin may vary, it is generally understood as actions or thoughts that go against God's will or commands.

Grace, a central tenet of Christianity, is the unmerited favor and forgiveness that God extends to sinners. It is not a finite resource but a boundless expression of divine love. However, grace should not be misconstrued as a "get out of jail free card" for repeated transgressions. True repentance involves genuine remorse, a commitment to change, and a willingness to accept the consequences of one's actions Some argue that power, money, and influence may skew the application of grace, leading to exceptions to the rules. Recent controversies involving church leaders have highlighted concerns about accountability and 22 transparency. In one instance, a pastor faced criticism

Black women are twice as likely as white women to report instances of health care providers ignoring their concerns, refusing their requests for help, or failing to respond to requests in a timely manner.

These troubling statistics underscore the systemic racism and bias that pervade the U.S. healthcare system, jeopardizing the health and well-being of Black mothers and their children.

Research demonstrates that Black women are more likely than white women to experience mistreatment and neglect during pregnancy and childbirth. This alarming disparity often leads to increased complications and, tragically, even death."

Since then, Kaepernick has expressed his desire to return to the NFL as a player, maintaining his physical fitness in preparation. Even a recent coaching opportunity with the Los Angeles Chargers, offered by his former coach Jim Harbaugh, didn't materialize.
