About Bebashi Bebashi: Transition to Hope was founded in 1985 as a fullservice HIV/AIDS nonprofit organization, with a special interest in serving low-income people of color with HIV disease. As the second oldest AIDS service organization in the Philadelphia region, Bebashi was the first African American led organization in the United States to address the HIV/AIDS pandemic in communities of color. Today, the organization remains one of Philadelphiaâ€™s largest community-based minority providers of HIV/AIDS education and services for the urban community. Bebashiâ€™s mission is to empower people to enhance the quality of their health and overall well-being by providing access to culturally sensitive high-quality healthcare, HIV/AIDS services, health education and social services. Since its inception, Bebashi has expanded to address and help clients

Greetings from Bebashiâ€™s Health Enterprise Zone Project In 2019, the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services awarded a grant to Bebashi to establish a Health Enterprise Zone (HEZ) Project. The goal of this project is to provide health-focused services to underserved Philadelphia residents in North and lower Northwest Philadelphia in the following zip codes: 19120, 19121, 19123, 19124, 19125, 19130, 19131, 19132, 19133, 19134, 19138, 19140, 19141, and 19144. As a part of this project, Bebashi chose to focus on the issue of food insecurity. Food insecurity is a national public health issue. Health problems such as congenital disabilities, cognitive problems, anemia, obesity, heart disease, aggression and anxiety are all reportedly tied to inadequate nutritional intake. Bebashi addresses food insecurity in Philadelphia because we believe that the wealthiest country in the world can and should feed its vulnerable and impoverished members of society. Through the HEZ Project, Bebashi conducts outreach to inform the public about our FoodFirst Pantry, one of the largest food pantries in North Philadelphia. Our FoodFirst Pantry offers free nutritious food including rice, fruit, vegetables and other staples. We also conduct pop up food pantry activities, distributing both groceries and ready meals to those who lack cooking facilities. Additionally, we operate or support school and community pantries in the 19130, 19132, and 19134 zip codes for children and adults experiencing food insecurity.
