Here’s to a spring filled with joy, growth, and endless possibilities. Together, let’s make this year even more extraordinary than the last nine.
As the gentle breeze of spring replaces the winter wind, the time has come to embrace a fresh perspective on styles. This season, Beautiful South Magazine celebrates the fusion of feminine grace and unyielding strength, guiding women to incorporate this style into their wardrobes with poise and confidence.
Soft power is a subtle yet impactful force that emanates from within. It is the strength found in resilience, empathy, and authenticity. This spring-summer, designers have reimagined classic silhouettes and delicate fabrics to reflect the essence of feminine strength, creating a wardrobe that speaks of confidence and grace. Here’s how you can incorporate this style into your wardrobe this season.
Flowing Silhouettes:
The essence of soft power lies in movement. Flowing silhouettes such as maxi dresses, wideleg trousers, and billowing blouses offer a sense of freedom and fluidity. Opt for lightweight fabrics like chiffon, silk, and linen to create an ethereal effect.
Ruffled Floral-Print Lenin and Silk Organza Blouse, Zimmerman, £1295, www.net-a-porter.com
Soft power is beautifully represented through a palette of pastels. Shades of blush, lavender, mint, and sky blue evoke a sense of calm and serenity. Incorporate pastel hues into your wardrobe through dresses, blazers, and accessories for a touch of elegance.
Feminine strength shines through in the details. Look for garments adorned with delicate embroidery, lace, and ruffles. Pair a lace-trimmed blouse with tailored trousers or a ruffled dress with sleek heels for a balanced and polished look.
Tailored Pieces:
Tailoring is a key element in showcasing soft power. Structured blazers, high-waisted trousers, and fitted skirts exude confidence and authority. Combine these tailored pieces with softer elements, such as a silk blouse or a lace camisole, to create a harmonious balance between strength and femininity.
Layering:
Layering is an effective way to add depth and dimension to your outfit. Opt for lightweight layers, such as a silk camisole under a lace blouse or a chiffon dress over a fitted skirt. This technique not only adds visual interest but also allows for easy transitions between different settings and occasions.
Confidence is Key:
The most important element of soft power is your inner confidence. Embrace your unique style and wear each outfit with pride. Remember that true strength comes from within, and your wardrobe is a reflection of your power. It’s time to let your confidence shine through.

In recent years, cold water therapy has exploded in popularity, quickly becoming one of the most talked-about wellness practices. Whether it’s plunging into an ice bath, taking cold showers, or submerging in natural cold bodies of water, this ancient technique is gaining a modern following, particularly among those seeking to
Cold Water Therapy for The Spring Health
slowly work your way up to
Cold water therapy, or cold exposure therapy, involves exposing the body to cold temperatures for brief periods. This practice, used for centuries across various cultures, has been praised for a range of benefits, from enhanced circulation to reduced inflammation and increased energy. Perhaps one of its most exciting aspects is its impact on mental clarity. Many practitioners swear by the ability of cold water to sharpen focus, elevate mood, and even combat stress. The rush of cold triggers the body’s fight-or-flight response, flooding the system with endorphins and dopamine—the “feel-good” hormones that boost mood and mental clarity. This natural high not only improves focus but also helps build mental resilience, encouraging a sense of calm after the initial shock.
Athletes have long turned to cold water immersion to help with recovery, but now more people are discovering the benefits for general health in their everyday lives. By constricting blood vessels and reducing inflammation, cold exposure helps ease muscle soreness and speeds up recovery after workouts. Whether you’re an elite athlete or simply looking to improve your fitness, the benefits of cold water immersion are undeniable. In fact, many wellness enthusiasts now turn to ice baths like LUMI, a sleek modern take on the traditional ice bath experience, which makes it easier than ever to access the therapeutic benefits of cold water from the comfort of home.
For those new to cold water therapy, it’s essential to start slowly. The initial shock can be intense, but by gradually easing into colder temperatures and increasing exposure time, the body can build tolerance. Start with a few seconds of cold water exposure, perhaps through a cold shower, and slowly work your way up to longer immersions. This gradual approach ensures that the experience remains invigorating rather than overwhelming. Listening to your body is key—there’s no rush, and the process should feel energizing, not painful.
While cold water therapy offers many rewards, as with any new wellness practice, it’s important to proceed with caution. Prolonged exposure to cold temperatures can lead to conditions like hypothermia. Symptoms like confusion, shivering, or a loss of coordination are signs that your body is being overwhelmed, so it’s crucial not to stay in cold water for extended periods, especially when starting out. Always listen to your body’s cues and avoid pushing too hard too quickly!
So, if you’re ready to sharpen your mind, enhance your mood, and invigorate your body, maybe it’s time to dive in.
FSKIN BOOSTERS The Rise of
Polynucleotides
or years, dermal fillers have dominated the world of aesthetic medicine, offering a quick fix for volume loss and fine lines.
But today, a more subtle, regenerative approach is taking centre stage. In the UK and Hampshire’s top clinics, we’re seeing a shift towards treatments that work with the skin rather than simply plumping it—enter skin boosters and polynucleotides.
“It used to be all around dermal filler,” says Dr Veerle Rotsaert, the female founder of Injectual clinics, “where we are now seeing an influx of switchover to skin boosters like Profhilo and Jalupro, as well as polynucleotides (also known as salmon sperm).”
Unlike traditional fillers, which add volume, skin boosters act like an intensive hydration treatment from within. These micro-injections of lightweight hyaluronic acid work to deeply moisturise and improve elasticity, giving the skin a luminous, naturally refreshed look.
“Skin boosters work to stimulate your own tissue, so they give supernatural results,” Dr Rotsaert explains.
Polynucleotides, meanwhile, take things a step further. These powerful biostimulators, derived from purified DNA fragments, work at a cellular level to encourage collagen and elastin production while repairing damaged tissue.
“These micro-injections work to moisturise and improve elasticity, giving the skin a luminous, naturally refreshed look.”
They’re particularly effective in delicate areas like the under-eyes. “Profhilo is the classic one and still has its place in aesthetic medicine,” Dr Rotsaert notes, “but the benefits from polynucleotides are slightly better, in my opinion. Apart from stimulating elastin and collagen production, in the under-eye area, they brighten as well as attract stem cells to any treated areas.”
This movement towards skin regeneration reflects a broader trend in beauty: a desire for authenticity and longevity over instant but artificial results. People are increasingly drawn to treatments that enhance their natural features rather than dramatically altering them. Skin boosters and polynucleotides offer a way to improve skin health from the inside out, resulting in fresher, firmer, and more radiant skin—without telltale signs of intervention.
The best part? These treatments are suitable for a wide range of ages and skin concerns. Whether you’re in your 30s looking for a hydration boost
or in your 50s aiming to improve skin texture and elasticity, there’s an option to suit you. They also pair well with other non-invasive treatments, such as microneedling and laser facials, making them a favourite among skin experts for maintaining long-term skin health.
If you’re considering making the switch, it’s important to choose a skilled practitioner who understands the nuances of these treatments. Hampshire is home to a number of leading clinics offering tailored consultations to help clients achieve natural, glowing results - or a day trip to London.
Ultimately, the shift from fillers to regenerative treatments like skin boosters and polynucleotides is more than just a passing trend—it’s a reflection of a new beauty philosophy.
Less about instant gratification, more about long-term skin health, and focused on results that are timeless, elegant, and unmistakably you.

Notebook THE GENTLEMAN’S
A Guide to Elevated Skin, Hair, and Body Care Grooming for the Modern Man
In today’s world, where first impressions often make all the difference, looking your best has never been more essential.
But grooming isn’t about vanity—it’s about confidence, self-respect, and putting your best foot forward. Much like a sharp suit speaks volumes about a man’s taste, the right grooming routine reflects a gentleman’s sense of style and sophistication.
In this guide, we’ll dive into the grooming products every gentleman should consider, designed to take your skincare, haircare, and body care to the next level.
Skin Care: The Foundation of Your Grooming Routine
The first step to better grooming is skincare. By choosing the right products to cleanse, hydrate, and protect, you lay the foundation for a fresh, healthy complexion that enhances your overall grooming routine.
Start with Aesop Parsley Seed Facial Cleansing Oil, a gentle, antioxidant-rich formula that cleanses deeply while preserving your skin’s natural moisture. This luxurious oil is ideal for men who want to refine their daily routine. With its skincalming properties, this oil cleanses thoroughly whilst gently nourishing the skin, making it the perfect start to your skincare routine.
£45 - www.aesop.com
Once your skin is clean, it’s time to hydrate. Acqua di Parma Barbiere Moisturizing Face Cream is our top pick. This face cream, designed especially for men, provides lasting hydration without greasiness. Enriched with vegetal extracts, the cream refreshes the skin and improves its appearance. It absorbs quickly and leaves no residue, making it perfect for daily use on all skin types.
£69 - www.selfridges.com
Finally, no skincare routine is complete without sun protection. UV rays are one of the main causes of ageing wrinkles, so investing in a highquality SPF is crucial. KIEHL’S Ultra-Light Daily Defense SPF 50 is our choice. It offers broadspectrum coverage, making it suitable for all skin types, and its lightweight formula feels comfortable all day. This sunscreen is a must-have for your daily grooming kit.

Hair Care: Nourishing and Strengthening Your Locks
Just as your face requires care, so too does your hair. The modern gentleman must choose products that not only cleanse but also nourish the hair from root to tip.
Start with Sisley’s Hair Rituel Revitalising Volumizing Shampoo with Camellia Oil. This luxurious shampoo is formulated to gently cleanse whilst providing the necessary vitamins and minerals for the vitality of the scalp and the hair. Its formula benefits from a combination of effective active ingredients targeting the hair bulb and the fibre. The shampoo leaves your hair shinier and full of energy, feeling thicker after each wash.

“Choose products that not only cleanse but also nourish the hair from root to tip.”
For an added boost, Le Labo’s Hinoki Hair Mask is the perfect treatment for anyone looking to restore the health of their hair. Formulated with plantbased ingredients and a blend of spirulina extract and coconut oil, this hair mask conditions hair thoroughly, leaving it soft and smooth. The Hinoki scent is inspired by the Buddhist temples of Mount Koya in Japan, where the profusely warm scent of hinoki trees emanates from the surrounding forest.
Body Care: Elevating Your Routine with Luxurious Touches
Your body care routine should be just as refined as your face and hair care. The skin on the body can become dry and dehydrated, so it’s essential to incorporate moisturising and nourishing treatments into your daily ritual.
Jo Malone London’s Myrrh & Tonka Body Crème is a standout product for those who want to add a touch of luxury to their body care. A luxurious body crème with nuances of myrrh and tonka bean for a long-lasting skin scent, the body crème adorns the skin with a luxurious veil of moisturise to quench the skin’s thirst. We are sure it will leave your skin feeling smooth to the touch and with a brightened appearance.
£80 - www.jomalone.co.uk
For a lighter, yet equally luxurious option, L’OBJET Côté Maquis Hand and Body Lotion provides exceptional hydration and protection. With its fresh fragrance sporting notes of salt, incense and Cashmere Wood, this lotion leaves skin feeling moisturised and subtly scented. The Sweet Almond Milk leaves your skin feeling soft and hydrated. Available from MR PORTER, this lotion is elegance in a bottle, ideal for those who appreciate quality in every aspect of their routine.
£65 - www.mrporter.com
When you take the time to invest in the best grooming products, you not only enhance your appearance but also invest in yourself. After all, true confidence isn’t just about how you look— it’s about how you feel. And with the right skin, hair and body care products, you can embody that sophistication every day.
and you’ll see why marzipan is making its sweet comeback. One bite,
A Sweet Revolution in Marzipan
Born from a passion for creativity and a love of marzipan, Marzilicious is transforming perceptions of this classic confection. Founded by Jo Scrivener in 2022, the Hampshire-based company merges artistry and flavour to create beautiful, handcrafted marzipan treats that are as delightful to look at as they are to eat. With a mission to dispel the myth that this sweet treat is a Christmas-only indulgence, their goal is to showcase its versatility and year-round appeal.
Marzipan is beloved across Europe and the Middle East. In countries like Germany and Spain, it’s celebrated year-round in an array of forms, from delicate pastries to intricate candies. Yet in the UK, it’s often seen only as a holiday treat. Jo is determined to change this. “Marzipan is the perfect treat for any time of year,” says Jo. “It’s naturally vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free, making it an indulgence that suits a wide range of dietary needs.”
Marzilicious sets itself apart by crafting with unparalleled quality. While most commercial marzipans contain as little as 25% almond, Jo uses 50%, resulting in a smooth, nutty confection free from preservatives. This attention to quality is matched by creativity, with flavours ranging from classic almond to inventive options like chocolate and orange, cherry, and apple.
Every piece is a miniature work of art. Each little creation is hand-formed and painted so that each one has a unique finish. Every little peach has a different blush, every carrot a different texture, creating little edible works of art. They have created burger and chips, cheese boards and even whole fish, foxes, an octopus and polar bears! They have also been commissioned to make cars, Christmas baubles, and even hops and barrels for a home brewer’s birthday cake - the possibilities are endless!
Jo’s commitment to excellence began with extensive recipe development and a lot of taste testing (did we mention she loves marzipan?), resulting now in a delicious smooth confection which is high in almond content and needs no preservatives. This dedication has paid off, with their products becoming popular at local markets and events across Hampshire, Surrey, and West Sussex.
Beyond their visual appeal and delicious taste, these pretty creations make perfect gifts for “Marzi-fans,” as Jo calls them. Whether as afterdinner treats, wedding favours, or unique cake decorations, these handcrafted confections are designed to delight. The gift boxes come in various sizes to suit all budgets, and you can even add a gift message to your order - free of charge!
As the business continues to grow, Jo remains focused on her mission: to reintroduce marzipan as a contemporary, year-round indulgence. By blending artistry, tradition, and innovative flavours, Jo is proving that it’s a treat for all seasons. One bite, and you’ll see why marzipan is making its sweet comeback.

Creating a home that exudes warmth and sophistication isn’t just about selecting the right furniture or the perfect wall colour. The secret lies in layering textures and accessorising with intention. These elements bring depth, comfort, and personality to a space, transforming it into a refined and inviting retreat. Whether you’re styling a cosy living room, a serene bedroom, or a welcoming entryway, thoughtful layering is the key to achieving a luxurious yet lived-in aesthetic.
THE POWER OF TEXTURE: A Sensory Experience
Texture is one of the most powerful tools in interior design, adding dimension and tactile appeal to any room. By incorporating a mix of sumptuous fabrics, plush cushions, and soft throws, you can create an environment that feels both stylish and comfortable.
How to introduce texture in your home
Start with a base layer – Choose a neutral foundation, such as a linen-upholstered sofa or a wool rug.
Layer in softness – Introduce plush cushions in a mix of fabrics like velvet, bouclé, and faux fur.
Add warmth – Use knitted throws or cashmere blankets to create a cosy feel.
Incorporate natural materials – Wicker baskets, wooden furniture, and ceramic accents bring texture without overwhelming the space.
For an effortlessly chic look, mix materials that contrast yet complement each other. A velvet armchair paired with a linen ottoman or a leather sofa softened with a boucle cushion creates visual interest and balance.
STYLING: The Art of the Finishing Touches
A well-styled space is one that feels curated, not cluttered. Accessories are the final step in bringing a design together, allowing you to inject personality and refinement into your home.
Tips for Styling Accessories Like A Pro
Use decorative trays – A stylish tray on a coffee table or console helps group items and keeps things looking intentional.
Stack books strategically: – Hardback books add height and interest to shelves and surfaces.
Incorporate sculptural elements –Candlesticks, vases, and decorative bowls introduce shape and form.
Play with symmetry and asymmetry –Arrange objects in balanced yet dynamic compositions to maintain visual harmony.
Layer artwork – Instead of hanging everything on the wall, lean framed prints or paintings against a surface for a relaxed, effortless feel.
When accessorising, be mindful of negative space. Overcrowding a room with decor can feel chaotic while leaving space around key elements allows each piece to shine.
“Blend old and new by integrating meaningful objects into your decor.”
By carefully curating elements that feel meaningful and cohesive, you create an environment that is not only visually stunning but also deeply comforting. It’s this balance of beauty and intention that truly defines layered luxury.
FINAL THOUGHTS
THE STORYTELLING ASPECT: Creating a Home That Reflects You
BRINGING IT ALL TOGETHER:
The Role of Greenery
No room is complete without a touch of nature. Greenery breathes life into a space, adding a fresh, organic element that softens and complements the layered textures.
How to Use Greenery to Elevate a Room
Choose the right plants – Opt for greenery that suits your space and light conditions, such as eucalyptus, olive branches, or fiddle leaf figs.
Mix real and faux plants – High-quality artificial plants can supplement live ones, ensuring a full and fresh look year-round.
Use varied heights – A combination of tabletop plants, floor-standing trees, and hanging greenery adds dimension and movement.
Select stylish planters – Ceramic, rattan, or stone pots enhance the aesthetic and tie into your overall design scheme.
Placing greenery in key areas, such as an entryway, dining table, or open shelving, effortlessly enhances the space and adds a natural, calming touch.
Layering textures and selecting accessories isn’t just about making a space look beautiful— it’s about telling a story. Every object, from a vintage book to a handcrafted bowl, should have a purpose and a personal connection. This thoughtful approach transforms a house into a home, where every detail reflects the personality of those who live there.
Personalisation Tips
Incorporate travel finds – Display souvenirs or artisanal pieces collected from different places that tell your life’s story/hold memories.
Showcase family heirlooms – Blend old and new by integrating meaningful objects into your decor.
Use custom or unique artwork – Commissioned or handmade art pieces create an emotional connection to your space.
A well-designed space is more than just aesthetically pleasing—it’s a sensory experience. Through the layering of textures and the careful selection of accessories, you can elevate any room into a haven of refined style. Whether you embrace plush fabrics, curated decor, or lush greenery, the key is to approach each element with intention. By doing so, you’ll craft an environment that feels as luxurious as it looks, creating a home that is effortlessly elegant and timeless.

A Warm Welcome to The Blue Bell, Emsworth - a delightful visit
Nestled just a few steps from the picturesque quay, The Blue Bell Inn in Emsworth offers the perfect blend of a cozy pub atmosphere and high-quality dining. Whether you're stopping by for a casual pint or a hearty meal, this charming establishment, under the attentive care of owner Giles, delivers an experience worth savoring.
On arrival, we were greeted with a warm welcome and a lively atmosphere, making it clear why this pub is a local favorite. The menu boasts a fantastic selection of fresh, locally sourced dishes, and we couldn't resist trying a few of the highlights.
To start, the Pan-Fried Scallops were beautifully presented, nestled on a bed of balsamic-dressed salad with crispy pancetta and chorizo. The scallops were cooked to perfection, with a lovely caramelized crust that paired well with the rich, smoky flavors of the accompaniments. The Stuffed Camembert was another indulgent treat—warm, gooey cheese infused with garlic and thyme, complemented by a tangy homemade chili jam and fresh ciabatta.
The menu boasts a fantastic selection of fresh, locally sourced dishes, and we couldn’t resist trying a few of the highlights.
For the main course, the Blue Bell Fish Piestood out as a comforting and flavourful dish. The combination of ChalkStream trout, smoked haddock, cod, and prawns in a creamy herb sauce was delicious, and the cheesy mashed potato topping added the perfect finishing touch. Meanwhile, the Fish of the Day, a whole locally caught day boat lemon sole, was a vibrant and beautifully executed dish. Topped with a classic French sauce vierge—a tomato-based dressing filled with fresh herbs—this was one of Rick Stein’s favorite pairings for fish. The sole was cooked to perfection, falling effortlessly off the bone, making for a light yet satisfying meal bursting with fresh, zesty flavors.
Both dishes were complemented by a bottle of Jean-Luc Colombo Les Girelles, Picpoul de Pinet, selected from The Blue Bell’s extensive wine list, curated in partnership with Hermitage Cellars. This classic French white is awash with flinty minerality, ripe orchard fruits, and fresh white florals. Nicely rounded, with a crisp, vibrant finish, it was the perfect pairing for our seafood dishes.
With its friendly service, excellent food, and inviting setting, The Blue Bell is a must-visit for anyone in Emsworth.
Highly recommended!

Fibre-Packed
Foraging for Spring’s
Best Flavours
Written by Tara Spink
Spring is the transitional period from wet, dark days to wet, slightly lighter days - with the occasional burst of warmth and sun that teases you like a flirt, then disappears as quickly as it arrived. But this temperamental weather brings an abundance of produce into our lives, creating a culinary landscape as impressive as the English countryside it grows in, and there’s plenty to look out for over the next few months as a result. Whether it’s from land or sea, the South of England is one of the best places to find what the UK has to offer.
Each glimpse of sun brings the perfect opportunity to try your hand at foraging, and whilst there’s a stellar selection of options throughout the year, we’ve got some pretty big hitters from April onwards. What sounds like a daunting prospect at first can actually be a fun day out with the family and, more importantly, one that ends in a delicious meal.
this temperamental weather brings an abundance of produce into our lives.
Chefs tend to jump on the wild garlic bandwagon from February (and for good reason), but this versatile herb can be found until as late as Junealthough we’d recommend grabbing some sooner rather than later. It thrives in woodland with damp soil and tends to take ownership of large banks, but even if you can’t pinpoint its exact location just follow your nose. Its strong scent penetrates far beyond the surrounding area, and you’ll almost certainly smell it before you can see it! Great for everything from pies and pestos to flavoured butters, plus you can chop it up or blend it with a little water to freeze for the future.
By May, the days are longer and warmer, and we’re gearing up for garden party season. To get ahead of the game, we’d recommend using this time to make some elderflower cordial that keeps for up to a few months. You’ll often find elderflower
blossoming throughout the countryside - mainly in woods and along roadside hedgerows - but it’s easily recognisable for its delicate cream-coloured flowers and intense sweet smell.
With the seaside on our doorstep, it also allows us the opportunity to dabble with catching our food - but whether you’re a keen fisher, curious at the thought of starting, or simply just like eating it, it’s important to know what the best local and sustainable fish to be tucking into is. The Solent will see a surge of fish, such as black bream, bass, and mackerel, as we head into late spring, and it will make for wonderful eating over the next few months. April to June is also prime time for two of the most sought-after species, Dover Sole and Turbot, a great catch if you fancy your chances, but equally special, bought from local fishmongers and grilled over fire.
It’s worth noting that there’s plenty of less local but seasonal produce available between April and June, so don’t forget to utilise all that spring has to offer. With rhubarb, Jersey royal potatoes and asparagus, to name just a few, we’re utterly spoilt for choice.

The Sparkling Success of English Wine
English sparkling wine continues to flourish— with Hampshire and West Sussex right at the heart of it. The British fizz continues to turn heads with its crisp, complex flavours and world-class quality. The secret? England’s cool climate and chalky soils, much like those in Champagne, create the perfect conditions for growing the necessary grapes that yield these delicious wines. Hampshire and West Sussex, in particular, benefit from these conditions, with its rolling countryside and well-draining limestone-rich soil providing an ideal home for vineyards. Skilled winemakers are taking full advantage, crafting bottles that can hold their own against some of the best in the business.
Surrounded by a variety of award-winning vineyards, our local areas represent the perfect place to explore everything English sparkling wine, whether it’s for tastings or vineyard touring. From bright citrus and green apple notes to rich, toasty undertones, there is something for every palate. If you are raising a glass for a celebration or just enjoying a relaxed evening, they make a worthy choice.
To get you started, we’ve rounded up three standout bottles from top local producers — perfect for you to try and see all the buzz is about.

The palate is vibrant and refreshing, with layers of white tropical fruits leading to a clean, lingering finish. Pair it with smoked salmon, scallops, or light canapés for an even more exceptional experience.

Ashling Park Sparkling Red:
Ashling Park Estate’s Sparkling Red is a fun, fruity blend of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, bursting with character and ready to be loved. It offers aromas of a strawberry field on a warm summer’s day, with a delightful balance of cherry berries, liquorice, and spice. The wine’s vibrant flavours are beautifully complemented by the chalky acidity of the South Downs. Few producers create sparkling reds, making this one a true standout.

The Grange Hampshire
The Pink NV:
The Grange Hampshire’s Pink NV is an elegant and expressive blend of Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir, lifted by a touch of solera reserve wine. Delicate aromas of wild strawberries, cherries, and summer florals give way to hints of pastry and toasted nuts, whilst redcurrant, raspberry, and shortbread notes unfold with creamy depth. This wine has richness and complexity yet remains fresh and vibrant. A luxurious choice on its own or paired with smoked mackerel, risotto, or chocolate fondant.

Finding the perfect venue
The venue is the heartbeat of your wedding, not just the backdrop. It’s the canvas that sets the tone and mood for your special day. For couples looking for inspiration, keep reading for our must-have
The vineyard:
Barns are a popular venue option that offer a natural, timeless beauty. Barns offer a blank canvas, allowing you to tailor the space to your theme –whether it’s boho-chic or rustic country. What’s more, barns are often set in picturesque countryside settings, providing beautiful backdrops. Our top pick is Upwaltham Barn, nestled in the rolling hills of the South Downs. Lovingly restored, the family-owned, flint stone barn exudes warmth and friendliness and has plenty of space for your guests.
A vineyard wedding can create a romantic and elegant atmosphere as you are surrounded by beautiful nature. If you’re blessed enough to have good weather, vineyard spaces provide outdoor areas for both the ceremony and the reception. We recommend Hambledon Vineyard, which you can find in the exquisite South Downs, offering your loved ones a beautiful backdrop and delicious dining. What’s more, they serve their awardwinning sparkling wine for your guests to enjoy.
“Manor houses often come with rich history and architectural charm, adding timeless elegance to your big day.”
The manor house:
Manor houses often come with rich history and architectural charm, adding timeless elegance mixed with modern luxury to your big day. Many manor houses also offer guest accommodations on-site, making it easier for guests to enjoy the festivities longer. Our top choice is Northbrook Park, a stunning Grade-II listed 18th-century manor house situated on the Hampshire-Surrey border. It includes gardens, a tranquil lake, resident swans and peacocks, and cottages for guests to stay overnight. Sounds perfect to us!
The hotel:
Hotels often offer desirable wedding packages that include catering, event planning services and accommodation, helping make your day as seamless as possible. Hotels offer a variety of event spaces, allowing you to choose your perfect setting. The iconic, luxurious Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire offers a walled garden, orchard and grand ballroom for your big day, alongside a top team of planners and catering options. As one of the top hotels in the country, let alone Hampshire, your guests are bound to love it just as much as you.
Design & style inspiration
We caught up with leading wedding planner Lavinia Stewart-Brown, and founder of Stewart-Brown Events, for her expert advice on 2025 trends. Don’t miss her top tips.
Light up the room:
Candles have always been a great way of creating atmospheric and intimate lighting in different parts of a venue, and we see this trend booming in 2025. Whether it is a floating candle in a hurricane vase lined with foliage, personalised candles with the couple’s initials or overly dramatic coloured tapered candles adding height to tables, candles are for sure a trend to watch this year.
Bows, bows and more bows:
An increasingly popular style for dressing events is the beautiful bow. From dresses to napkins and bouquets to place settings, people are incorporating as many bows as possible. From a creative perspective, it is a really nice way to extend a colour theme throughout the day and add an extra layer of design throughout the wedding.
“Colour can be celebrated through design aspects such as linen, stationary and centrepieces.”
Intimate events:
With couples more conscious about their budgets than ever, Lavinia has seen a shift to more intimate weddings. A tighter guest list allows couples to make their wedding day even more personalised, for example, you can write each guest a handwritten note at their table setting, or you can ensure every attendee has a role to play. Whether it is driven by couples wanting to host an intimate but detail-heavy day abroad or opting for a local celebration with their nearest and dearest, 2025 will likely be the year we see smaller weddings become more frequent.
Non-wedding cake:
Catering and dining at weddings has come such a long way – couples are invested in personalising menus and incorporating food they love. And, with this has come an evolution of the traditional wedding cake. It’s time to say goodbye to the traditional wedding cake, and hello to fun, tasty alternatives. For example, some couples are opting for giant pavlovas and tiramisu and serving this instead. Some couples are opting for experiential
pudding stations such as ice cream or crepe vans or even exploring Italian wedding cake where layers of sponge, cream and fruit are theatrically created in front of guests.
A pop of colour:
The colours to watch in 2025 are butter yellow, blush pink and terracotta clay – a perfect sunset mix of hues. Couples can look to incorporate these throughout their day in different ways to ensure there is a clear and cohesive theme. When it comes to dressing, colours can be celebrated through bridesmaid dresses, bridal bouquets and groomsmen ties. Likewise, colour can be celebrated through design aspects such as linen, stationary and centrepieces.

How to make your ceremony even more meaningful
Designing a heartfelt ceremony can create unforgettable memories that you and your guests will hold dear forever. Beautiful South Magazine spoke to Wedding Celebrant and founder of Ibiza Soul Ceremonies, Wendy Van Craenenbroeck, for her advice for couples looking to make their moment more soulful, unique and personal.
Involve storytelling:
Wendy invites couples to reveal their love story –it creates an emotional connection and a shared experience for guests. Through your ceremony, include insights into how you met, share some of your best memories together, and any challenges that you have overcome. Not only does it make the ceremony meaningful, but it also creates an opportunity for your guests to self-reflect on their own experiences too.
Don’t overlook the music:
Wendy shares how powerful music is and how it always creates emotion for the couple and their guests. The bridal entry song and the couple’s exit song should be carefully thought through and take people on the journey. Perhaps you want emotion at the start and sheer joy at the end once you are married. Instrumental pieces of music often invite more reflection, and guests can connect with the emotional meaning of the ceremony.
Integrate rituals:
Including symbolic rituals can help elevate your ceremony and make it even more meaningful. For example, handfasting is a popular option which symbolises the union and commitment of two people intertwining their lives together. Couples can choose a special ribbon or material that means something to them, and have this wrapped in a figure of eight around their hands to represent eternal love. Likewise, ring warming is a special option where the rings are passed around guests before reaching the couple, infusing the rings with positive energy, good intentions and well wishes.
Personalise your vows:
Wendy recommends that couples think deeply about their personal vows and promises. Have a think about what makes your partner so special, sharing why you fell in love. Some people do not like public speaking and feel too vulnerable. Instead, you can write each other a letter to open the morning of your wedding.
Incorporate family and friends:
Having your loved ones share personalised readings and self-written poems is a clever way of including your nearest and dearest. They can also participate in beautiful rituals, such as somebody playing music
“Include insights into how you met, some of your best memories together, and any challenges that you have overcome.”
during the ceremony or having somebody act as the ring bearer. Not only is it special for the couple, but it also creates memories for their guests and gets them involved in the big day.
Choose the right celebrant for you:
Celebrants have different approaches, and it’s important for you to consider what feels right for you. For example, do you want something traditional, or something uniquely new? Wendy’s style is non-traditional and story focused, she is a sensitive soul that aims to touch the hearts of the couples and guests, ensuring everybody is present. She can include elements of nature, help couples with their vows and create bespoke story ceremonies that are deeply personal. She is insightful, emotive, and authentic. Wendy’s advice for couples to be is to be in the moment as much as possible – every moment is to be lived, and every emotion is allowed to be felt.

How to find your special dress DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT: Mara Marie Bridal
A wedding dress is the cornerstone of a bride’s wedding day and a heartfelt item that she will cherish for the rest of her life. With so many beautiful options available, it can be difficult to know where to start. We caught up with Mara Dietrich, luxury bridal designer and founder of Mara Marie Bridal, on her advice for brides-tobe searching for ‘the dress’.
Give yourself time
Mara was captivated by fashion from a young age and taught herself to sew at the age of 13. At university, she began refining her dressmaking craft, specialising in bridal gowns. Fast forward to 2025 and she owns a beautiful, luxury boutique in the heart of London. Her design aesthetic is rooted in femininity and romance but with a twist.
If you’re visiting a multi-brand boutique, the lead time for a gown is around 8 months, and you should factor in 1-2 months for alterations. If you have an on-site atelier, as Mara does, you can work with tighter timelines.
“When you look back at your photos, you want to see a dress that reflects who you were on that special day – not just what was popular at the time.”
Stay true to yourself
Trends come and go, and while they can inspire beautiful details, your own should be authentic to you. When you look back at your photos, you want to see a dress that reflects who you were on that special day – not just what was popular at the time.
Chose accessories that complement
There are many ways to accessorise your look and make it your own. For example, adding a statement veil, wearing a neck scarf or gloves and incorporating overskirts. Brides should always choose accessories that complement their gowns, not compete with them. Mara loves it when brides have something ‘old’ or ‘borrowed’ for their accessory as it gives the look more meaning.
As a wedding dress designer, her goal is to create gowns that strike a balance between timeless elegance and being fashion-forward. She blends sophistication with bespoke unique details that make each gown individual and unforgettable. Every stitch is crafted with intention, and this can be felt the moment brides try her gowns on.
Mara cherishes the close relationship she builds with her brides, appreciating the role she plays in their love story. Likewise, brides who enter her boutique feel Mara’s inspirational and personal approach from the get-go, grateful knowing they are in a safe pair of hands.
“She blends sophistication with bespoke unique details that make each gown individual and unforgettable.”
Her design process starts by playing around with fabrication and shapes, allowing the creation to form. She adapts from existing patterns or creates entirely new ones, making tweaks and adjustments to bring the piece to life.
For brides looking for ‘the dress’, be sure to reach out to Mara Marie Bridal and book your appointment. You won’t regret it!

A Tranquil
Countryside Escape: A Stay at Handley Farm
Nestled in the rolling countryside on the Devon/Somerset border, Handley Farm offers the perfect retreat for those seeking a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
From the moment we arrived, we felt an overwhelming sense of relaxation settle in. The stunning surroundings, fresh country air, and warm welcome from our hosts, Nicola, Richard, and their daughter Grace, made us feel right at home. Handley Farm boasts three luxurious self-catering cottages: The Cider Barn, The Dairy, and The Old Stables.
“Each cottage has been lovingly converted to offer comfort and charm in equal measure.”
Each has been lovingly converted to offer comfort and charm in equal measure. The Dairy, where we stayed, was beautifully laid out with a cosy wood burner, a well-equipped kitchen, and a raised decking area complete with outdoor seating. The highlight was undoubtedly the hot tub – the perfect place to unwind and soak up the breathtaking sunsets that painted the sky each evening.
One of the most magical aspects of our stay was the opportunity to experience farm life up close. The farm is home to an array of friendly animals, including goats, sheep, horses, chickens, and even some adorable newborn lambs and kid goats (arriving in early April!). Nicola and Richard
encourage guests to interact with the animals, and we loved helping to feed the sheep in the field. It’s an experience that makes you feel truly connected to nature and is especially delightful for children. The farm also has a fantastic play area with a trampoline, ensuring little ones are entertained.
“Their beautifully converted cottages offer luxurious comfort while maintaining a warm and homely feel.”
For those with a keen interest in horses, Handley Farm is a dream come true. Grace’s riding lesson was a joy to watch, and the family’s passion for equestrian life is evident in every corner of the farm. It’s the ideal setting for horse lovers who want to immerse themselves in the rural lifestyle.
If you’re looking for a moment of serenity, take a short walk down to the fishing pond at the end of the drive. Equipped with a fishing rod and bait, it’s a peaceful spot to try your hand at catching carp, tench, or roach while enjoying the tranquil surroundings. Whether you’re an avid angler or a complete beginner, it’s a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.
For those in need of some extra pampering, Handley Farm can organise additional luxury services, including a private chef and a massage therapist. These little touches elevate the experience, making it a truly indulgent getaway.
Beyond the farm, there’s plenty to explore. A highlight of our trip was visiting the famous Tarr Steps, just a 30-minute drive away. This ancient clapper bridge crosses the River Barle and offers a scenic walking route along the river. We spent a delightful couple of hours meandering through the picturesque landscape before enjoying a wellearned drink at the pub on the hill.
Handley Farm is also ideally located for exploring the charming villages of Brampton and Wiveliscombe, both of which boast fantastic local pubs and eateries. A short drive away, you’ll find an array of superb restaurants, perfect for a special evening out.
“With its stunning setting, warm hospitality, Handley Farm is a place that captures the heart.”
Whether you’re travelling as a couple seeking a romantic retreat, a family looking for an adventurous farm stay, or a larger group wanting a countryside getaway, Handley Farm caters to all. Their beautifully converted cottages offer luxurious comfort while maintaining a warm and homely feel.
For those who love the great outdoors, the surrounding countryside offers endless opportunities for walking, wildlife spotting, and stargazing. The clear night skies provide an incredible display of stars, adding to the magic of this idyllic location.
With its stunning setting, warm hospitality, and charming farm experience, Handley Farm is a place that captures the heart. It’s no wonder they have earned a 5-star rating on TripAdvisor and Google Reviews. Whether you’re watching the sunrise over the rolling hills, feeding the friendly animals, or unwinding in the hot tub under a starlit sky, a stay at Handley Farm is one you’ll never forget. We left feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and already planning our next visit.
This 5th generation Hyundai Santa Fe is a big SUV that is true to its sector - roomy, comfortable, and hugely practical.
Sister car to the Kia Sorento (Hyundai has owned Kia since 1997), the Santa Fe has been around for close to a quarter of a century. This latest iteration adds a considerable dose of boxy, squared-off styling and morphs an essentially agricultural offroader into a quite cool family load-lugger.
Alternatives include the aforementioned Kia Sorento and other three-row SUVs such as the Skoda Kodiaq and Nissan X-Trail. However, the new Santa Fe feels so upmarket that it’s easy to imagine you might cross-shop it with something like a Land Rover Discovery or Volvo XC90. Yes, it’s that good.
Inside, practicality is the name of the game for good three-row SUVs like this. The middle row can be specified as a bench or even a pair of luxurious captain’s chairs with a walk-through to
the rear row, and there’s loads of room. The third row is tighter, but kids or sulky, phone-wielding teens will be fine back there, and there’s still reasonable boot space behind them. The interior is smart and extremely well-built. The dashboard is truly premium-looking with its massive curved BMW-like display, and everything feels plush and hard-wearing.
On the road, the Santa Fe’s suspension does a great job of ironing out the worst of intown imperfections and speed bumps, and it’s wide enough to easily straddle those square speed cushions. Both engines are smooth and responsive, with little hesitation from the gearbox - you simply get up and get moving.
Under the bonnet, the Santa Fe comes as a selfcharging hybrid or a plug-in hybrid with two or four-wheel drive. Both engines are 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol units (215PS and 253PS, respectively) and have plenty of power to cart the Hyundai’s big body around. Unfortunately, Hyundai doesn’t offer the Santa Fe with a diesel engine, as that sort of low-down pulling power really suits a car like this. A niche to revisit, perhaps?
The hybrid engines do offer pretty good fuel economy and the plug-in version has just 38g/km CO2, to make it a reasonable company car choice as well.
While not its raison d’être, the Santa Fe has plenty of grip through sharper corners, the steering is accurate, and the body lean is well-controlled. It’s perfectly capable of taking rural corners quicklybut it’s not enjoyable to do so thanks to the remote nature of both powertrains and the numb steering that’s understandably set up to be light and easy for its bulk, rather than to be the last word in driver feedback.
With all its other merits taken into consideration, being slightly more dull to drive than some alternatives seems a small price to pay - especially for a family SUV, where you’re more likely to be stuck in traffic on the school run than carving up a canyon. In most other respects, the new Santa Fe remains a brilliant choice.
