Two Women DAOs You Need To Know About

What is a DAO?

DAOs are an effective and safe way to work with like-minded people around the globe. Think of them like an internet-native business collectively owned and managed by its members. They have built-in treasuries that no one has the authority to access without the approval of the group. Decisions are governed by proposals and voting to ensure everyone in the organization has a voice.

Starting an organization with someone that involves funding and money requires a lot of trust in the people you're working with. But it's hard to trust someone you've only ever interacted with on the internet. With DAOs, you don't need to trust anyone else in the group, just the DAO's code, which is 100% transparent and verifiable by anyone. This opens up so many new opportunities for global collaboration and coordination.

BLU3 DAO (pronounced Blue DAO) empowers women, non-binary people, and allies to learn, win, and play on Web3. Those are the three mandates. That guarantees that the community can discover and develop their careers and projections in Web3 to achieve financial freedom.

One of the most important goals is to grow and diversify the crypto ecosystem, focusing on a comprehensive solution that is fair and non-confrontational. This includes recruiting/onboarding, educating, and deploying the talents of women in Web3 (whether as users, consumers or leaders). They are an inclusive DAO, incorporated by women, non-binary, and trans people.

H.E.R. DAO is a women-centered developer DAO that includes self-identifying women, trans women, and non-binary audiences. Long term, H.E.R. aims to become the leading launchpad for women-led blockchain ventures. Their goal is to sustainably diversify the blockchain ecosystem, leading to more versatile, holistic innovations, and increased revenue potential.

In summary, you can think of it as a decentralized autonomous organization with governors and contributors, plus members who are part of a group whose mission aligns with yours.

Women from Mexico, Latin America, and the United States met at a boutique hotel, took part in the Blu3dao hacker group, and competed for prizes at ETHMexico, which is part of ETHGlobal.

On the first day of arrival, on Telegram, we were all in a group chat, and it just happened that Sophia and I were arriving at the Mexico City airport at the same time.

It was time for us to ride together in a taxi to the hotel boutique, also known as the hacker house.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by two small Mexican women who were hotel attendants eager to show us our room upstairs.

What it’s like to live with a group of Women Hackers

We found our room and unpacked our belongings to grab something quick to eat before heading to the get-together with everyone else in the house of Blu3dao.

After returning to the house after eating a quick bite-everyone was at the welcome party with dinner and drinks. As people got to know each other and met people they already knew from previous Zoom meetings, other hackathons, and Twitter spaces, the vibe was so strong that most people thought they knew each other.

The next day was Blu3day, a special meeting, and breakfast event to share blockchain ideas and turn into a group of teams for ETHMexico.

The ladies arrived and met up. Blu3dao and H.E.R. DAO get together for breakfast, and both DAOs of women meet each other. There was breakfast being served, and people could meet, chat at breakfast, and later go sightseeing in the country or shopping in the local stores before ETHMexico started the next day.

Eth Global will host ETHMexico in the following two days at their venue. Here's where most will live for 24 hours to compete for prizes, bounties, and wins.

Throughout the house, the restrooms are crowded with women doing their beauty routines and putting on makeup. Exactly what Beauté in Tech magazine is all about.

You don't lose in a contest. You either win or you learn there's no losing.

We head back home as the lights turn off, flights are booked,bags are packed and we say goodbye to a stranger with whom you shared a big ambito us task to accomplish.

Every second of the day, you feel like you're home in a local place, and you've known each girl forever. The energy throughout the day makes you feel like you've known her for ages; it feels almost as if you've known them for years, but it's actually the first time for most, though it doesn't feel that way, and for many after leaving the hackathon, they become lifelong friends.

The ETHGlobal team holds hackathons worldwide to find the best talent in blockchain technology.

So, what exactly is a hackathon? A hackathon is a collaborative event where participants work together to solve problems or create new applications.

Women and men from around the world, as well as locals, traveled to Mexico City, to join together and form groups of five people to build "on-chain" using blockchain technology or to solve a technical issue that a tech company is unable to resolve in their company with the developers they have hired.

Developers are instructed to resolve the issue at the event in a short time, usually 48 hours, and can win prizes, bounties, and more if they do.

It is also possible to start your own tech company and build it during a hackathon like ETHMexico, pitch it to the judges, and receive honest feedback, which is another reason many developers pursue hackathons.

I applaud the forward-thinking nature of ETHGlobal's team and their flawless execution of the event. As soon as you enter the venue, you are entering one of the top-tier places and locations in Latin America, where the energy is so vital that you feel like it's a whole new world.

A developer world awaits you, and it's exciting to watch in countless real-time rooms packed with laptops and dozens of people typing code for hours and hours. Some team members take turns leaving the venue to go home and shower. At the same time, others stay bunkered down with the ambition and drive to get it done as soon as possible.

ETHGlobal's team is fantastic! It's impossible to imagine what they haven't thought of in the event. A lot of attention was paid to the smallest details. From the breakfast and lunch provided to the drinks and snacks stations, a strong wifi connection when you're in Latin America, to the award ceremony afterward with wine and pinatas is all incredibly impressive.

Hackathons are a great way to meet other developers, learn new skills, and create something new and innovative.

What's Your background ?

I have a vast background in business, as well as a seasoned real estate investor. I entered into the blockchain and cryptocurrency space in 2017 and I knew there was going to be lots of opportunity in the space, but I needed to learn about it. So I decided to go get educated. I hold a certification in Blockchain and EthereumTechnology as well as a Masters of Science in Blockchain and Digital Currency, from the University of Nicosia.

How did Tokenize Assets come to be ?

I certify real estate professionals on blockchain in the domain of real estate. As I was presenting at a workshop about tokenization and the benefits it offers because of the blockchain, the light bulb went off and I decided to create a platform for the tokenization of assets.

What are the best ways to optimize using a technology like this? Can you give real life examples?

Yes. Because of blockhain we are able to tokenize real estate opportunities that typically the average person is locked out of because of minimal capital and or credit. This technology also reduces those barriers while also allowing access to liquidity in investments.

Our platform that was built on this technology allows people to invest in multi-million dollar opportunities for as little as $500 dollars. Because of the blockchain everything is transparent and tokens can be bought and sold without having to sell the property for investors to gain liquidity.

What are some of your favorite moments in creating this platform and running the company so far?

Seeing how excited people are to invest and start building real estate portfolio’s as well as being invited to Rome to speak at Vatican City about how the platform can offer financial inclusion to those across the globe.

I must say, this is one of the best events I have ever attended!

Although I may be a little biased, I will admit that it is the event you need to attend to learn about financial institutions and money next year. The city of New York is also home to Wall Street and is considered to be the Crypto Capital of the World.

L'ATTITUDE will further catalyze the need to invest, support, do business with U.S. Latinos, and help build the U.S. Latino brand in our country. A significant portion of the U.S. population is Latin American, and this event brings together leaders in media, politics, technology, and business. The event provided an opportunity to listen to what is being said about Latinos and create awareness of the economic power output of 2.8 trillion dollars "if Latinos lived in the United States as an independent nation, the U.S. Latinos have the fifth largest GDP in the world. More significant than the GDP of Britain, India, or France. The powerhouses at this event are something you need to experience and be present for the experience.

Beauty Bias in Working Women

There are many ways in which beauty bias influences us, from being told we're not pretty enough to be overlooked for a job because we don't look like the "ideal" candidate.

When we believe there is a beauty standard and you must measure yourself according to it, this can lead to a harmful, toxic perspective.

One way that beauty bias manifests is in the workplace. Studies have shown that attractive people are more likely to be hired and promoted than their less attractive counterparts. In many cases, employers subconsciously believe that beautiful people are more competent.

This phenomenon is also evident in the media. Studies have shown that attractive people are more likely to be featured in magazines, commercials, and movies. The constant bombardment of images of perfect people and ideas of beauty often perpetuates unattainable beauty standards.

So what can we do to combat this?

First, we can become aware of our own biases. If we are honest with ourselves, most of us can admit that we're more likely to trust and be drawn to physically attractive people. Once we become aware of this, we can start working on changing our behavior patterns.

Second, we can support organizations and products that promote diverse beauty standards. Many magazines, websites, and social media accounts feature people of all shapes, sizes, and colors. By supporting these platforms, we can help diversify beauty narratives.

Beauty bias is a natural and pervasive problem that we can all work to combat. By becoming aware of our biases, supporting diverse beauty standards, and being more mindful in our interactions, we can help create a more inclusive world for everyone.

While this is just a start, it is nonetheless a start.
