s we transcend from imagining utopia and returning to "normal

life" as the creator of this magazine I have realized that everything is far from normal. In fact, the idea of returning to normal is forever changed as our society continues to advance and transform with every passing day. Last year, we were forced into a mission of navigating "unprecedented times". Instead I decided to escape. After hiding in day dreams for a year, I disposed my rose-colored sunglasses as we entered 2021. Pushing forward and looking inward, a new hope and beaming light ignited something inside of all us: growth. Issue 1: Escapism was an outlet which allowed all who joined me in producing the spread to "break free from any troubles". However embarking on this new journey, full of self-reflection and consciousness. Issue II created space for development. Have you noticed that great change-like the Renaissance, the industrial Revolution, the roaring 20's- all mark the end of a disastrous abyss ? These blackholes seem destructive while we're in it; however, the human race has interesting ways of raising our selves up. The beginning of this new decade is no different because as we know, humans are creatures of habit. Yet we still find ways to evolve and excite. Art has shown us that inspiration grows from the creations of yesterday. But what boost originality is improvement. Innovation . This issue is inspired by the all-encompassing age of technology which influences our everyday lives. Even this magazine was produced and distributed digitally. Written pieces emphasize the digital and tech modernization from going to the gym and finding the perfect beauty script. This magazine will bridge the gap that allows women to see themselves represented, honored, heard and seen through our female founder focus of inclusion and diversity in the technology industry.

2020 was a year that rocked our world because of COVID-19. The pandemic has accelerated societal and technological changes at a pace we never imagined. Just a few months after the start of the year, countries around the world were in lockdown, and most businesses shifted their operations to remote work environments. The events of 2020 demonstrate the importance of maintaining resiliency, capacity, performance, immediacy and security across our businesses. Appropriately, the focus of this year is on the technologies and recent innovations that build, drive and support operational excellence. Here are the t op 4 t ech t rends according to Nasdaq that are believed to have the most impact on our industry and power to shape the year ahead: First , syst ems on chips (SoCs) and field-programmable gat e arrays (FPGAs) are not new, but recent innovat ions in t his space excit e us.

Notably, we are seeing the rise of Advanced RISC Machine (ARM) architecture for central processing units (CPUs) and advancements in graphics processing units (GPUs) and machine learning optimized chips. These innovations allow us to build more efficient trading systems, deliver better performance, reduce complexity, lower the cost of end products, increase profitability and add new features that differentiate our products. These innovations are having a profound impact on our business ? and the financial services industry as a whole ? especially as the industry migrates to the cloud. Second, Edge Cloud is reducing reliance on cent ralized processing (processing performed in one comput er or in a clust er of coupled comput ers in a single locat ion), bringing great er scale and performance t o consumers in an increasingly connect ed world. We see myriad practical use cases outside of financial services such as in internet of

things (IoT), vehicular applications and drone applications. In the financial services industry, edge cloud can support workflows designed to evolve customer engagement models and provide deeper insights from data, as well as enable hybrid cloud strategies. Third, t he powerful combinat ion of cloud, federat ed learning and homomorphic encrypt ion could pot ent ially overcome regulat ory and ot her barriers t o sharing and analyzing dat a for purposes such as fight ing financial crime and improving market int egrit y. The cloud is a neutral, secure infrastructure for internal and external stakeholders to share, analyze and act upon data, and the hyperscale cloud providers have tools to help organizations do it. With federated learning, organizations can share insights without actually sharing data. Moreover, homomorphic encryption is emerging as a technology that can allow organizations to share data, retain complete control over who can access or perform analysis on

that data, and own auditability of that process. Fourt h, t he adopt ion of t he soft ware-as-a-service model (SaaS) in t he cloud is rapidly accelerat ing. Financial inst it ut ions and market places are finding t hat SaaS makes it much fast er and cost effect ive t o onboard client s and upgrade and deliver new product s. SaaS in the cloud contributes to our resiliency and security because it alleviates some of the potential risk of downtime in our own data centers. Deploying infrastructure as code allows us to manage and define the desired state of our technology infrastructure using configuration files, and determine the security configuration before it is deployed in a public cloud.

"Plann is now recognized as one of the leading Instagram scheduling tools and boasts over 2 million downloads across 160+ countries.".

CHRISTY LAURENCE

In this interview, Christy shares her journey and tips for anyone starting out their business .

W hat 's your background? Based in Sydney, Australia and originally from a marketing career, Christy Laurence used her own creative talents to become an expert in the field, selling her own illustration work through the platform which quickly led her to an ?a-ha moment?and a viral idea. Seeing the huge potential and opportunity that Instagram had for anyone to subsidize their income or create a new career for themselves, she dove into helping others understand how to use Social Media for business, leading to her scoping out and designing a software platform she knew could help millions. ?What if there was an app that could help you brand your Instagram feed, that taught you when to post, what to post, and why to post? What if you could drag and drop and visually design your virtual shopfront instead of leaving it to chance?? She knew it was a brilliant idea and she knew someone was going to do it - so she thought, why can?t that be me? How did PLANN come t o be? Christy had a successful career in digital marketing, social media, and direct response advertising for agencies and corporates, most recently finishing up as Advertising Executive at Insurance Australia Group (IAG). A Freak brain trauma caused by the flu, rendered Christy extremely dizzy, nauseous and lost most of her mobility for more than 18 months. Suffering trouble with the nervous system (including panic attacks leaving the house and

falling down stairs several times due to dizziness), she decided to start a business at home and focus on getting better. The idea for Plann was born while Christy was illustrating and selling her artwork on Instagram. Friends would ask ?how?and she had understood Instagram was about how everything looked and a specific story-selling technique - decided to scale her consulting time by building an app to teach on mass. On launching the product she had 1000 paying users in week one - the growth has been exponential ever since. By the end of the year, Plann wins 3 awards for an innovative product and Christy wins ?Australiasian Startup Founder of the Year?with StartCon as one of the only female finalists. With no technical background, Christy used nothing but her gusto, resilience, and passion for business to get Plann off the ground. She laughs now that she originally thought Plann would be a hobby project giving her freedom to work from home part-time, but the company now boasts a global team, a trophy cabinet of awards and an app listed amongst the top-grossing in the world. Without any funding, Christy bootstrapped Plann (or what she refers to as ?Customer Funded?) to millions of dollars in revenue and an army of brand loyalists who love using Plann. She puts her success down to two things, the first being constantly aware of the metrics within the business that drive growth and sharing her business acumen with her leadership team, and secondly being compulsively obsessed with the people inside the product. By knowing the exact challenges they?re facing

down to the minute details, the team is able to come up with creative ways to remove those roadblocks and ensure the success of their community. W hat 's t he mission of PLANN? Plann doesn?t just put a social media scheduler into the world and say ?Here! Figure it out!? Instead, Plann becomes an extension of your team, offering content ideas, strategy ideas, royalty free images and analytics that really help brands understand what moves the needle rather than celebrate vanity metrics. By helping over 2.5m+ brands build influence and make sales on Instagram, providing extra income, helping scale businesses and creating employment opportunities (social media managers, content makers, copy writers and creatives), Plann was built from an internal passion to help others build successful businesses, so it wasn't lost on Christy to become equally obsessed with wanting to help her female peers too. How can pros use it t o bet t er serve t heir client s? With an obsession to educate and provide thoughtful, helpful tools, Plann isn?t just another scheduler on the market. ?Our goal is to create a product that empowers and teaches brands how to optimize workflow quickly and effectively, whether they?re working on their own or in a large team.?Founder Christy Laurence explains, ?We want our people to know how to use social media platforms to grow their bottom line, and why not to focus on vanity metrics that don?t make money.? How can business owners use t his t ool t o improve business? Supporting over 2.5M of the world?s best Social Media Managers across the globe, Plann was designed to keep your brand online, relevant, and making sales 24/7. You?ll learn when your unique best time to post is and what content themes drive the highest engagement, right through to what colors work best to drive click-throughs. Being in business nowadays means you have to be an expert at everything. The Plann team also runs a media publication; a blog with expert level information to help anyone find success on social with articles visited by more than 5M people every year. W hat are t he best ways t o opt imize using a t ool like t his? Can you give real life examples? PLANNis a powerful Social Mediaplanning tool

"With our lives becoming increasingly virtual, Christy Laurence, Founder and CEO of Plann, believesthat now more than ever businesses need to focus on their online presence ? with Instagram a frequently overlooked sales channel." designed to help people get discovered, build influence and make sales on Instagram. W hat are some of your favorit e moment s in creat ing t his app and running t he company so far? Christy explains ?The best compliment is when someone in our community tells us they can feel it on the other side?. Being able to share Plann with the world is such an honour. To be honest I felt like I was just sharing my passion with anyone that would listen! Without realizing it I had created a ?ground swell?approach and word spread quickly How do people use t his t ool t o save t ime? When designing the app, I spent a painstaking amount of time hunting out and speaking to people with the exact challenges I was having. Understanding their exact pains, insights and sort out to solve them all in a very beautiful, simplistic way. Every single feature is well thought out and has been intentionally added. Working tirelessly on a product that genuinely helps people find success, be something that they use every day to make their lives easier, creates less social media anxiety while they can be more productive makes it easy to get to work every day. Try Plann for yourself, we?d love to see what magic we can make together.

Furthermore, the rising adoption of wearable devices, such as the Apple Watch and Fitbit, is supporting the market growth. Key players are introducing fitness apps in order to cater to the growing consumer demand, which is projected to drive the market globally. Moreover, new functions and features are added to enhance the customer experience. For instance, in June 2020, HealthifyMe, a health and nutrition app, launched HealthifyMe Studio to provide live and interactive workouts. The number of participants was limited to 30 in order to increase overall customer engagement. In December 2020, Apple introduced Fitness+ for Apple TV, iPhone, and iPad. The Fitness+ platform will have 10 different workout types, including Core, High-Intensity Interval Training, Strength, Dance, Yoga, Cycling, Rowing, Treadmill, and Mindful Cooldown. Many capital venture and investment firms are investing in the fitness app sector. For instance, Fittr, a fitness app, raised USD 2 million in April 2020. In addition, many footwear companies such as Adidas, Nike, and Under Armour are investing in health apps and tracking systems. For instance, Nike Inc. has apps: Nike Training Club and Nike+Run. This, in turn, is positively impacting the growth of the market.

Beauty Scripts is a product recommendation platform and app for beauty professionals that allows them to ?script? products and through an affiliate network earn commissions without stocking (or touching) inventory I sat down with the founder

products used or recommended with every service they perform.

W hat 's your background?

We see BeautyScripts as the retail product sales solution. No more costly inventory that expires. No more limitations. Use BeautyScripts to uplevel the experience of your clients with easy to shop 'scripts' that take the pressure off of selling product.

I'm a professional makeup artist, a published author and I cut my teeth in NYC working with major brands like Glamour, Kate Spade, and Tory Burch on digital media. I have 10 years experience in the fashion and beauty industry, and am currently the CEO of BeautyScripts.

How did Beaut y Script s come t o be? BeautyScripts came from a need I had as a makeup artist, paired with my business background and the gap I saw in the market. As a makeup artist working with brides, I was constantly recommending products 3-6 months out from their wedding day to help them get their skin 'in shape' for their big day and purchase any cosmetics they would need for touch-ups on the day of. Inevitably, those recs would get lost or I would get texts asking, 'What was that product again?' or 'What shade should I buy that lipstick in?' and so I started emailing them with links and instructions (including colorways). One day I decided to use my affiliate links in the emails to my clients, and they clicked through and shopped and I got credit! I was earning commission on product sales without having to stock inventory. I shared this with a few other artists, and their clients clicked through and shopped too. So, with a little affirmation that I was on to something, I raised some capital and built BeautyScripts as a product recommendation platform for beauty professionals to 'prescribe' products using our affiliate-powered catalog of products and retailers (now including Sephora, Ulta, and Credo!) to better serve their clients and also generate income.

W hat 's t he mission of Beaut y Script s? Our mission is to leverage expertise to create financial abundance through passive income.

How can pros use it t o bet t er serve t heir client s? I always suggest a pro pair a 'beauty prescription' or

How can business owners use t his t ool t o improve business?

W hat are t he best ways t o opt imize using a t ool like t his? Can you give real life examples? You can use BeautyScripts to recommend products to clients over a long period time, like the example I gave with my bridal clients. You can also use our 'quick share' feature to drop a product link into an existing text thread to make it easy to shop the product you're 'prescribing.' Lastly, you can use BeautyScripts to do beauty breakdowns on social media and share your recs with a larger audience.

W hat are some of your favorit e moment s in creat ing t his app and running t he company so far? This is a good question! I've definitely had some proud moments when a pro will message me and say something like, 'I've been waiting for something like this! Thank you!' or when they share it with their audiences. Mostly, I feel really happy that the vision of what I wanted as a MUA is now out in the world and available to others too.

How do people use t his t ool t o make an ext ra income ? Our average commission rate is 16%, so it is really comparable to what you'd make if you were selling product in a salon or spa. With BeautyScripts you're not limited to what's on the shelf. You can truly recommend whatever products you think are best and that builds trust with your clients and an additional income stream for you.

If you're a beauty professional, visit www.beautyscripts.com. It's free to join and you not only gain a robust library of products to 'prescribe' you also gain a place in our pro community- which is really special. We'd love to have you join us!.

Emotion, Artificial Intelligence & U Technology is affect ing how we connect wit h each ot her as humans What could your computer know or do if it knew what you where thinking ? We spend so much more time with our computer than we do humans. Even though we are spending this much intimate time with a computer it has no clue what you are feeling, but what if a computer could know what you are feeling just like your best friend or mom would ? Our relationship with technology is transforming. It's becoming a lot more perceptual and more relational. We're becoming more attached to our devices.Computers are our portal for communicating with the rest of the world. A computer can help you show emotion or the perception of emotion.z.

Engineering Emotional Intelligence HOW DO PEOPLE COMMUNICATE EMOTION THROUGH FACIAL EXPRESSION, a fundamental aspect of how we connect. Trying to teach a computer emotions. Emotional repository to read emotion, examples of people expressing over 400 types of emotions through voice and through face as a tool to use the data set to train algorithms. People are not only building better technology to make computers better, it actually has the potential to help humans communicate better. When you have a hearing problem you put on a hearing aid, but there is no equivalent to hearing aid for social and emotional communication. Imagine a piece of technology could augment not just your cognitive intelligence, but also you're emotional intelligence. Bringing emotional intelligence to artificial intelligence is quite cutting edge. This is how emotional intelligence is engineered to make algorithms to produce artificial intelligence.

There are many social issues AI could cont ribut e t o. Some examples include t he following: Just ice: How do we identify, target, and prevent individuals who are likely to cycle through various public systems (emergency rooms, homeless shelters for example) and eventually end up in the criminal justice system? Can I understand what factors best predict interactions with these systems and develop interventions so employees of these systems may reduce future interactions while providing quality services? Economic Development : How do I allocate resources that a city has towards the homes, neighborhoods, and communities that are most likely to help reduce blight?

Workforce Development : How do we help Job Training and Skills Development programs to figure out what skills are going to be in demand in the future so they can

train individuals and help them become employable?

Public Safet y: How do I better make dispatch decisions for emergency response calls?Who do we send for a given dispatch and how do we ensure to send the appropriate resources without overspending?

Policing: Can I identify police officers that are at risk of adverse incidents with the public in order to match them appropriate preventative interventions?

Educat ion: Build a system to help target early and effective interventions at students who may need extra support to graduate on time or not likely to apply to college or not ready for college or careers upon graduation from high school.

Algorithms Are Man Made Deep learning is data hungry, it needs a lot of data that companies are online gathering about you every day when you log into an app or visit a website. When you feed it more data you get better accuracy and if the data stops coming in the accuracy tapers off. Deep learning needs data and the people creating the algorithm have to be smart with the data and how to sample the data. People are aware that this data is there and being collected. Opting in is one way we agree to this by using a social media platform, app or website with consent that that data is being collected from a user. To get us to share this data there is a value being exchanged for your data. Either it's monetary by being paid in marketing surveys or a better user experience.

Bias in AI Artificial Intelligence is increasingly influencing the opinions and behaviors of people in everyday life. The bias starts with the over representation of men in the design of technologies that can quietly undo the advances of gender equality. AI bias is programed into the output of machine learning. This could be due to the prejudice assumptions during the algorithm development process or prejudices in the programed data. Teenagers are growing and developing, some who are not emotional intelligent some with malice intent, would this be something that we need another robot to replicate or understand ? This is still something that is a black box that even those who are developing the algorithms do not know what the outcome will be. No matter what we are doing we are responding.

Regulating AI that Interprets Human Emotions Yet with all the social good AI can do, companies continue to sell software that will affect people?s opportunities without clearly documented, independently audited evidence of effectiveness. Job applicants are being judged unfairly because their facial expressions or vocal tones don?t match those of employees; students are being flagged at school because their faces seem angry. Researchers have also shown that facial-recognition software interprets Black faces as having more negative emotions than white faces do. We can no longer allow emotion-recognition technologies to go unregulated. It is time for legislative protection from unproven uses of these tools in all domains ? education, health care, employment and criminal justice. These safeguards will recentre rigorous science and reject the mythology that internal states are just another data set that can be scraped from our faces.

AI & Social Good The power and the fear. When you are emotionally intelligent you can persuade people better. That's true for humans. That's going to be true for emotional AI like machines that can read your emotions and sense the right person to persuade you to change your behavior. But it can also be used to manipulate you in ways that we don't want in society. Look at politicians who can monitor this and tweak this in real time and that may or may not be a good thing. It's important to collectively come up with the guidelines or best practices for what is right and what isn't right about this technology or focus our efforts in the right direction.
