Bathroom before Lauran Ritchie (38) nominated her husband Glenn (38), an ex-Navy and proud Aboriginal man as a ‘deserving Aussie’.

They have two wonderful young girls, Ava (5) and Billie (2) and Thor the dog who they rescued from a puppy farm.

Like many others, the cost of living forced the Ritchie family to move out of Sydney. They saved hard to buy their first home in Davistown, a more affordable Central Coast town. With a high unemployment rate the pair have struggled to find work in the area. After leaving the Navy in order to be with his family, Glenn now finds himself doing a 3-hour daily drive to Sydney for work, which leaves him little or no time to spend with the family.

He would do anything for his family and enjoys giving back to community, including doing work with the AIME mentoring program and performing traditional dances while in the navy.

Lauran was diagnosed with severe postnatal depression after Ava was born. Helped by Veterans Affairs, she is focussed on improving her mental health and getting back into the workforce. She is using fitness as a way back to health. Lauran desperately wants to contribute back to the family, but needs to find something local so that she can be close to the kid’s school and doesn’t know where to start on finding her way back to work, especially in this environment.

The ultimate dream for the Ritchie family is a bath! While the rest of the house is fine, the bathroom is a 1960s nightmare… brown toilet and all. The toilet runs all night and the tiles are coming away from the floor, Lauran would love a bath for her girls, but at the moment has to put a face washer over the drain just to bath them on the bottom of the shower.

Outdoor Poolside Makeover Kelly Doyle (49) has worked tirelessly for the foster care community.

She has been nominated on the Honour Roll for the Woman of The Year Awards and was a Pride of Australia Medal Finalist and a Champions Of The West Finalist. In 2011, she and husband Glen (46) set up Foster Care Angels in order to support kids in the foster care system, as well as the families that are fostering.

They have four growing girls, Hannah (19 ‘the older twin’) studying a Leadership in Policing degree at University of Western Sydney, Ashleigh (19 ‘the younger twin’) part time nannying and studying Paramedicine degree at University next year.

Lauren (16) studying at TAFE with a desire to have a career in the beauty industry. And Emma (11), whom they have parental guardianship of, currently in Year 6, has autism, and is obsessed with all things animals and Dr Chris Brown. Her dream job is opening a ‘No kill’ animal shelter. They long for a home that is warm and inviting, that the girls can bring friends to and that allows them to spend more quality time together as a family.

Baz and the The Living Room team take on the pool and garden renovation, turning it from ‘drab’ to an enviable teenagers hang out!

Outdoor Living Room We meet the delightful Dave and Kara Monroe and their growing family.

When it was just the two of them, they moved into a modest two-bedroom home. But, now with four daughters, their cosy two-bedroom house has became over crowded! With each new arrival they added on a new room to the house, except their living room hasn’t expanded with the house and now it’s too cramped for all of them to fit.

Baz and the The Living Room team think outside the box and transform the backyard into the ultimate outdoor living room!
