Sue passed away in December of 2020. Believe it or not, our 65th reunion will be in June. As I said, Hard to Believe! Hopefully, we will be able to celebrate in some way!!! I do not have much news to report due to COVID. Everyone is staying home. However, living at Hamilton House Apt. Some Beaumont grads: Carol Egan Grady, Judy Bopp Loach, Dolores McDonnell, Dolores McDonnell Ritt and I get together for wine occasionally. Peggi Conway remains somewhat busy by herself.

She took a hiking vacation to Hocking Hills in the fall. January and February 2019 Peggi went to India. It was a wonderful experience.

She has visited various friends and family through an outdoor window at nursing homes and assisted living places. Peggi will be leaving in January for Florida to visit family and friends. We would appreciate your continued support of our 1956 Scholarship Fund. We are the only class with a Scholarship Fund. That is pretty amazing. Let’s keep it up.

classmates. Happy New Year Greetings from COVID-19 home isolation in Riverside, CA for the last ten months – a new normal of Zooming and FaceTiming my retirement away. Like everyone else, the year was all about missing many travels, gatherings and special events with family and friends. On Sunday, January 17, I received my first dose of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, so I happily plan for a double amount of fun, hopefully by summer. I hope to make it to Cleveland by fall and hear everyone's adventures of 2020-2021. I missed my visit and our lunch and hope this year it will not be missed.

Mary Cavanagh Lewis writes: Tom, and I have been married 55 years and lived for 30 years in Madison, N.J. (a commuter town approximately 30 miles west of NYC). We just downsized to a condo in Morristown, NJ. I thought it important to share our experiences with refugee families during these dire challenging times: Since its inception in 2016, Tom and I have been involved with Refugee Assistance Morris Partners. RAMP seeks to assist Middle Eastern families and other refugee families vetted by the State Department to transition to productive lives of dignity, safety and hope in Morris County, New Jersey. To date, RAMP has helped five families: one from Syria, four from Afghanistan, and four have now “graduated” to self-supporting independent status.

Comprised of volunteers, most of whom are affiliated with area churches, mosques, synagogues, and local universities, RAMP coordinates with the International Rescue Committee and operates under the financial auspices of the Community Foundation of NJ. RAMP provides a full range of core support to assist the families: Social Services, Medical

Assistance, Food, Clothing, Employment, Education Financial: housing and utilities (in partnership with the International Rescue Committee) for the first year. Our personal experience began in-depth during March 2017 when on a cold, rainy evening, a young Afghan family arrived at Newark Airport: Mom, Dad and 20-month-old little boy, each with one small suitcase. They had experienced a 48-hour journey from Kabul. After a 5-hour vetting process by security at the airport, they were greeted with welcoming signs held by RAMP members. Previously they had been vetted in Afghanistan over three years by the State Department, Homeland Security, and the UN. I was waiting at their new residence, which RAMP members fully furnished. One of the RAMP members had prepared a beautiful Afghan meal. When the family arrived, one could detect exhaustion but smiles of relief. The Dad was carrying the sleeping little boy covered with the Dad’s jacket. As a two-year-old, Noman was always eager for new adventures, such as a trip to our local Turtle Back Zoo. He loved the Madison Library Children’s room, where he could roam around playing with various toys (pre-COVID-19.) At the library, a Mom complimented Noman when he surprised me by saying to her son, “good job,” indicating his ability to pick up English. Today the Mom who spoke not a word of English progressed to the point of fairly fluent English (with ESL tutors and English classes.) She passed the written and driving NJ driver’s test.

Five-year-old Noman is in kindergarten (virtual), and the family has been blessed with a three-year-old daughter, Neda. The Dad, who arrived with a good knowledge of English, has a good-paying, full-time job with a local utility company. They graduated from RAMP and have become independent. My experience with this young Afghan family is a perfect example of seeing Christ in others and reaffirming we are ALL God’s children.

husband, Al, and I live in a home overlooking two lakes. We have two sons and a granddaughter. One family lives in California, and the other in Pensacola, Florida. After graduating from Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, I taught school in the Mayfield Heights school system. I joined the Overseas Teaching Program with the Department of Defense and was sent to Midway Island in the middle of the Pacific.

I met my husband there as he was a Navy pilot. We have lived in many places and are currently enjoying retirement in Maine.

Bettina Artino Reid writes: Hello to all. I am doing well and living in a small town in Maine, about 40 miles northwest of Portland, called the Lakes Region. Numerous lakes and ponds are surrounding the town. My

Mary Jo Abraham Antoon writes: Although 2020 was a year of the pandemic and uncertain times, we pray that 2021 will be better. Speaking with our classmates, we find that all are ready for positive change.

Barbara Schubert writes: My husband and I came to Tucson for a month in November, but we did not return to Cleveland for the holidays because of the virus. Making meals for the women at Sr. Jose’s House, a refuge for homeless women has brought purpose to otherwise repetitious days. We will return after we get our vaccinations. May we all greet the spring in good health and lots of hugs as we come through this time of isolation into the sunshine!

Joanne Ryan, Judy Nieser, Dianne Toronski, and Maryann Semancik are well, staying close to home during this pandemic, awaiting the vaccine.

Ann Dini writes that she and Jack are about to celebrate their 62nd wedding anniversary.

They have kept busy during the pandemic doing jigsaw puzzles, especially those featuring artists such as Matisse and Bruegel, watching Netflix features, and taking brief automobile trips. They have missed returning to Cleveland for the film festival, which has again been canceled.

Peggy Opaskar tells us that she usually volunteers as an usher at the Cleveland Pop concerts but has not been able to do so lately. However, she does volunteer at the Hts. Food Bank and enjoys that. She's also optimistic about receiving the flu vaccine.

Kay Rooney Kusnerik advises that her good friend of eleven years, Andy Sims, passed away before Christmas, and she is dealing with the grief of Andy’s passing. Although she has not been able to see all of her children and grandchildren together at one time, she has seen them a few at a time to enjoy their company. Maria Shrembri Turk tells us that she is happy about her daughter getting married in November in New York, although she and her husband weren’t able to attend due to COVID restrictions. But she Zoomed the wedding and hoped to see them in the spring. Diane Young Cole and her husband have been attending the Fitness Center in Rocky River regularly to stay fit.

Also, they have been enjoying the ability to stream Mass from St. Christopher’s Church as well. Sr. Martha Mooney is happily looking forward to having the quarantine lifted, as we all are, and anticipates getting the COVID vaccine when it’s available. Patty Minello Kirchner asks for your prayers for her husband, Frank, who has pancreatic cancer. Patty is thankful for her children, who visit regularly and who, during the holidays, would each bring a hot meal to the house.

Joan Fritz Vidmar and her husband enjoyed Zooming with their children during the holidays. They also look forward to Browns games as loyal fans. I’m glad to report that our family’s annual Christmas gathering was at our son’s home, and it was so good to see the family together. While 2020 has been a difficult and challenging year, it seems that our Beaumont classmates have adjusted well. May God bless us all and keep us safe.

1963 Class Representative: Kati Callahan Crawford kati7845@aol.com Gerry Hadley Richard writes: We have received our first COVID shot, very well organized, no reaction. I had planned the Best of Italy Tour scheduled for October of 2021 and a trans-Atlantic cruise from Rome to Fort Lauderdale afterward, but the cruise has been canceled. Now do not want to fly over just for Tour. I am planning on being in Ohio after July 4th if it will seem safer then.

Still able to go to the outdoor pool 2-3 times a week here in Florida. So glad I relocated when I did. I have taken up baking bread successfully. Happy to be able to connect with classmates after all these years; it has been great.

Alice Salamone Wilson writes: This year, my middle grandson was to be married in May, but they married in March with only ten attending due to the pandemic. They will have a full wedding in the fall. My oldest grandson married in Florida on the beach with close family attending. We are blessed to have these two girls join our family.

Marcianne Miller writes: I am still living in my big house surrounded by trees in the beautiful city of Asheville, NC. However,

I am still reviewing movies with the Arts and Faith online site and catching up on postponed reading years. And like all writers, working on my novel.

Shirley Miller Schilling writes: Pre-COVID, my husband Robert and I celebrated 50 years of togetherness by renewing our wedding vows on a Jamaican beach in the presence of our many dear friends who likewise have vacationed at this same beach over the past 26 years. Who knew we wouldn’t be able to celebrate stateside with family and other friends? We attended the MO State Championship Basketball Playoffs (small high school division 2), which our granddaughter’s team won. Then watched our granddaughter sign her letter of intent to play basketball at Clark University in Dubuque, IA. Yielding to the call of the gypsy, it was possible to “escape” for a week to Colorado to see a few of our family members, six children, and ten grandchildren who range from ages 5-23. Then after passing “the spike up to the brain test” and completing the pre-requisite paperwork, Robert and I celebrated our actual church anniversary again in Jamaica with a pre-arranged (by our children) romantic dinner on the beach – moved indoors due to the passing hurricanes’ aftermath of rain. Joy tempered by some sorrow had made 2020 an unforgettable year for the Schilling Family.

We wish everyone a blessed, happier 2021!

Kathleen Callahan Crawford writes: 2020...well, I guess you could say it zoomed by! I did all the quarantine projects: cleaned closets, books, mahjongg online, learned Sudoku, did water aerobics...then in June went to Ohio from Florida and discovered REAL shutdown. Awful...but friends had developed the COVID Club with social distancing that made it tolerable. If you remember me, I was a rule-breaker and still can be, so we still saw family and did normal Thanksgiving and Christmas and were blessed to stay germ-free. Many in our large extended family got it and recovered, thank God. Now we’re back in Florida and downsizing to a condo. An enormous chore that proves my closet cleaning was

inadequate. I like the “bring your own” concept of entertaining... It reminds me of early married years. Simple and fun. If I ever get out from under the bubble wrap/ cardboard box routine, I’ll have to have the neighbors bring their own and toast being alive at 75. Hugs to all. – Kati

Kathleen Hyland Soeder writes: I am a retired social worker from CCF Lutheran Hospital. I live in Westlake, Ohio, with my husband, Jack. We have three children and five grandchildren. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion!

Barbara Arnold writes: Hi all. I hope you are well and taking good care during these strange COVID days. I have been staying home with my dog, Dickens, watching movies, doing crosswords, rearranging furniture, working in the yard, and wishing this virus would go away! I am retired twice – once from the Cuyahoga County Board of MR/DD after 28 years and again after 9 years of teaching Masters of Ed courses at Notre Dame College. I am officially retired now. I currently reside part-time in Cleveland and part-time in a vacation resort town called Harbor Springs in northern Michigan (tip of the little finger on the “Mitt”). I enjoy sailing, boating and swimming on Little Traverse Bay and hosting friends and Arnold family reunions in Harbor Springs, too. My two children who went to camp in Harbor Springs in their youth were drawn to vacation towns after college. My daughter, 37 years old, lives in Kennebunkport, Maine, and my son, 35 years old, lives in Breckenridge, Colorado. Always nice to visit them in their towns. I have been with my wonderful guy (a St. Ignatius and JCU grad and Vietnam vet) for 20 years of “unwedded” bliss. I have fond memories of Beaumont, hi-jinks and all, and

the gals in our class. We were an eclectic bunch, as I recall, which made us interesting.

I hope the COVID situation becomes such that this October reunion can occur as planned. I’m looking forward to it. Name tags will be a must!

I know the holidays were very different for most of us. Although family gatherings were at a minimum, Lynn Traxler Gilligan and her husband Pat were able to enjoy their new home in Macedonia. They recently moved back to the Cleveland area after more than 30 years in Massachusetts. Welcome home, Lynn! Kathy Simoson O’Brien is thrilled to announce that her seventh grandchild is due in May. Otherwise, she reports that life has been pretty quiet. Pat Connelly Dubiel is expecting her fourteenth grandchild in early June. And my daughter and son-in-law will welcome their second bundle of joy in early July. Mary Beth Walton Guzzo recently welcomed a new great-nephew. His namesake is Mary Beth’s aunt, Sr. Mercedes.

She is a retired nuclear radiology physician and is currently a student in the School of Spiritual Direction at the Franciscan University of Steubenville. In the midst of the pandemic, we listed /sold our home of 32 years and purchased a perfect one level home in Lyndhurst, which has proven to be much more user friendly. Our youngest son announced his engagement, and when the pandemic is over, they’ll set a date! I managed to reconnect with some of our classmates that I have not seen in a very long time. Lynn Baucco and I have taken up walking together in a park once per week and met Maribeth Gavin Wuertz for a lovely evening of distanced conversation on her patio. It was great to catch up and relive some old memories.

There I support program accreditation, working closely with colleagues in developing and implementing assessment processes. Now that I am back on the mainland, I look forward to seeing everyone, conditions permitting, at our next reunion.

I had a wonderful weekend at the home of classmate Kath Gilmore and her husband Gary von Lehmden in Zug, Switzerland, at the end of February, right before everything shut down both in Europe and in the U.S. Lots of mountain hiking in the beautiful countryside.

Rosemary and Maidie write: We want to extend our sympathy to Mary Beth Pluscinski Roth and Rosemary Leone Nemeth’s families, who lost their mothers.

Please keep them in your prayers. Happy 60 years young to all those who are turning 60 years old this year. Kathy Hairston is Director of Academic Review, Central New York at Empire State College. Kathy loves road trips and traveling. Ann Marie Monastra Hodrick wrote that she went to Loyola University in New Orleans, where she majored in Communications. She worked at WEWS as an editor and moved to Oakland, California. Ann then worked as an editor for CBS News and Al Jazera America. Ann now has her own jewelry business, Heart’s Desire Jewelry. She is living in New Bern, North Carolina. Ann and her husband have two boys. Laureen Fagan is doing freelance work for Notre Dame's Keough School of Global Affairs. She has a master’s degree in Journalism from Northwestern University and completed additional study in Theology.

Laurie wrote that she thinks of Sister Dorothy all the time and so naturally thinks about Beaumont all the time. She said that it was lovely to return to Beaumont for our 40th.

Ann Campeau Ruffell is the Director of Network Operations at Houghten Mifflen Harcourt in Libertyville, Illinois. Ann and Barry have two boys. One son lives in

Indianapolis, Indiana, and the other lives in Lakewood, Ohio. Margaret Wirtz Kato is the Executive Director for Habitat for Humanity in Flint, Michigan. Margaret and her wonderful husband have five children, ten grandsons, and one granddaughter. Gerri Csorba Mele wrote that she went to Lakeland Community College. She is a special education assistant. Gerri works with adults with developmental disabilities. She is married to her wonderful husband Bill and has three boys. Gerri said, “Life is Good.

GOD is Great!” Karen Labos Breisinger has three children, Dana, Joe and Michael.

She is living in Erie, Pennsylvania, and has a Master’s degree as a Reading Specialist.

Karen has worked in several special education positions, in early intervention, and as an autistic support teacher. Karen is doing multi-disability support with low functioning, medically fragile kids, and she loves it! Ann Monroe Ballargeon regretted that she could not make our reunion because she was in the middle of a job transition. Ann was a faculty member and Dean of the School of Education at the University of St. Joseph in West Hartford, Connecticut. She now is the Dean of the School of Education at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa. Pray for good health, justice and peace. Take Action!

Marianne DiSanto Storath writes: I am happy to write that I got a promotion to Group Fitness Lead at Frenchman’s Creek and Country Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. In addition to my new position, I will also be completing my Comprehensive Pilates Training through Polestar Pilates, which is known for a rehabilitation focus.

We are praying that everyone stays safe and healthy and are hopeful to meet everyone for our 40th-year reunion this year.

Last summer, I was honored as one of Pride Magazine’s Best of the Best for this role in the Charlotte community. I had two huskies, littermates, who both lived to be about 13.

These days, I volunteer, draw, read, travel when I can and spend time with friends. I still come to Cleveland a fair amount as it will always be home, and I still love and cheer for every Cleveland sports team before any other! Sending love to all my fellow Beaumonsters and the Class of ‘92!

Monique Graves-Banks writes: Hey everyone! Since climbing over that Beaumont wall (graduating*), I attended the University of North Carolina Central University. I returned home to Cleveland briefly, soon leaving for Florida where I lived for about 23 years before relocating to Tennessee. I have a 25-year-old son, who is a graduate of FIU and a beautiful wife whom I met and fell in love with in Florida and married legally in 2015. Before leaving Florida, I worked in the biotechnology field for Regenerative Biologics in Gainesville (Go Gators!) & UM Tissue Bank (Vivex Biologics) in Miami (*).

Due to MS, I no longer work, as I was forced into early retirement by this disease. I enjoy traveling, spending time with family, getting on my wife’s nerves, and reading, which is my passion.

Since 2009, I have been working as a Family Medicine physician with a private medical group, Pioneer Physicians Network, which has multiple office locations throughout Summit and Portage counties.

Brooke Delaney writes: My partner J Ryan Stradal, and I welcomed a long-awaited child, son Auden Louis (Audie), on December 19th, 2020. I received my Master of Fine Arts in Acting from the American Conservatory Theater in 2000. I worked for several years in NYC Theater, including the creation of two independent theater companies and extensive work with The Moth and StoryCorps. Since transitioned to healthcare, I have received my Master’s in nursing from UCLA in 2014, focusing on Palliative Care.

I began my nursing career in Bone Marrow Transplant at UCLA and most recently managed the Palliative Care Team at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. I serve as the initial editorial voice for my partner J Ryan’s novels, the third of which will be published by Penguin Random House in the Summer of 2021. After taking time to be with Audie in these early years, I hope to combine my skills through work as a clinical educator in narrative medicine.

Evelyn Cash-Santos writes: I was recently announced as the Senior Manager for KC-46 Aircraft Certification Integration at The Boeing Company. In this role, I provide senior leadership oversight of all certification activities, strategy and engagement across the FAA and military certification spectrum for the KC-46 program. This includes integration of amended type certification (ATC), supplemental type certification (STC), and military type certification (MTC) activities across Boeing Defense and Boeing Commercial business units. After graduating from Beaumont, I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from The Ohio State University in 2006. I was hired into Boeing in 2006 and was promoted to management in 2015. I have supported a myriad of Boeing projects, including flight test activities, new aircraft certification, and international validation activities involving direct engagement with regulatory agencies from around the world. I am also a John Maxwell Team certified coach and speaker who has a passion for coaching and mentoring others to achieve their best. I launched brightstarblog.com last year to share inspiration and positive motivation with others. I live in the Seattle area with my husband and two young children. I worked in higher ed for over ten years and even have a Master’s degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education. I didn't feel as called to the work as I once was and decided to make a change.

I now work as a project manager for a diversity and inclusion consulting firm in the DC area. I am working remotely from Saint Louis and plan to move to the DMV this summer! Still no babies, but I do love my dog Smoke. He and I survived a vicious dog attack, and I feel we are stronger as a result.

It was a traumatic event that allowed me to grow in my faith because God pulled us through and so many people rallied around us to help us heal. Love all you Beaumonsters!

Ruth Burke writes: I continue with my career as an artist and college professor. In Fall 2020, I began a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Wonsook Kim School of Art at Illinois State University. I continue to exhibit across the United States and receive funding from national, regional and local grants to support my research and artwork. In 2021, my first peer-reviewed article will be published in one of the leading human-animal studies journals, Animals & Society. I have an upcoming exhibition at Vox Populi in Philadelphia, PA, and I continue my research with the farming community and animal collaborators. After a crazy 1.5 years long distance with my partner Chris in the Middle East, we are on the same continent and eager to start our lives together. The biggest news of the year is that my wife and I decided to start a family and I am now pregnant with TWINS. The twins are due June 2021. We are moving back east from Washington for our growing family and my wife’s new assignment as an Army Chemical Officer at Fort Stewart, Georgia.

Gretchen Ebner writes: I got engaged this summer to CJ Bulger. We moved to Wichita, Kansas where I now work as a trust advisor at INTRUST Bank.

Animal Business Management degrees from the University of Florida. After graduation, my boyfriend and I will be returning home to Cleveland where I plan to work in a local small animal clinic as a general practitioner.

Due to my new abundant free time, I began volunteering for the nonprofit, Take Back the Night Foundation, whose mission is to end all forms of sexual violence through awareness events and initiatives. I helped organize The Shine Your Light Yoga Festival this past December. Additionally, I was honored to work at the 2020 Presidential Debate here in Cleveland. In more recent news, I have accepted a full-time position as the Membership and Events Coordinator for the trade association, Small Business Financial Exchange (SBFE). SBFE was brought into my life because my classmate and friend, Elizabeth Bagley ’16, recommended me for the role since she knew I majored in Event Planning at Johnson & Wales University.
