1955 Class Representatives: Sr. Maureen McCarthy, OSU mp.maureen@gmail.com Judy Kish Amundsen channelbend@cox.net Classmates attended a lovely Fabulous 50s luncheon in the Beaumont Theatre on October 9th; Christy Salata and committee did a great job! President Wendy Hoke and Beaumont Senior Meghan Kessinger spoke about enjoying her time at Beaumont. Chef Bo's food was so good! It was fun to chat with our classmates and others from Beaumont as well! We enjoyed seeing the slides of the 40's and 50's classes, and finding ourselves in them and in the yearbooks on the tables.

Two classmates weren’t able to attend, due to illness: Sr. Maureen McCarthy and Mary Lloyd Deutschman.

Sr. Maureen is looking forward to her move to Merici Crossings February 19th. Her suite mate is another Beaumont alumna— Sr. Joan Petersen.

1956 Class Representative: Patricia McIntyre Westropp pwestropp@yahoo.com Suzie Baird Fitzgerald had a wonderful visit with Sheila Dunn Burke in Arizona. It was perfect weather, lots of activity, good food, and always fun to be with a good friend. In October, Connie O’Connell Strong and Marie Penote Queenan went to visit Ann Mishler Hutzel and her husband Don in Tiffin, Ohio. Kathleen ONeill Dunn and her husband joined them. They had a wonderful time catching up and remembering lots of fun times over the many years they have known each other. Carol Hart Keck planned a fun trip to the winery in Geneva. Suzie Baird Fitzgerald, Janet Neff Newsome, Mary Anne Corlett Rotatori, Dolores McDonnell Ritt, Diane Junglas Richardson, and myself stayed at the Inn in Geneva, and had a driver take us to four wineries. We learned a lot about wine! The memorial Mass at Beaumont was very well attended. We remembered our deceased classmates Karen Kline Smith and Phyllis Bleich Greenhalgh. After Mass, Carol Egan Grady, Judy Bopp Loach, Dolores McDonnell Ritt, Diane Junglas Richardson, Janet Neff Newsome, Rosemarie Miceli Surace, Mary D'Agostino Mandalfino and myself attended brunch at Cedar Creek Grill. Our Fabulous Fifties Luncheon was also well attended. Lynn Harvanian Boyd, Peggy Walsh Varga, Diane Junglas Richardson, Dolores McDonnell Ritt, Mary Anne Corlett Rotatori, Rosa Schembri & myself all enjoyed the afternoon. Patricia McIntyre

1957 Class Representatives: Barbara Schuele Schubert bschubert100@gmail.com Judy Patterson Nieser jpnieser@att.net Happy and Healthy 2019 to all! Maryann Papes Semancik reports not being tired at all(!) after a month-long visit from her five year old granddaughter followed by a two week visit after flying with her to her family home in San Francisco. A group of us met with Maryann while she was visiting in Cleveland (Thank you, Diane Toronski for arranging the breakfast at First Watch in Pinecrest). Maryann keeps busy visiting friends and family in San Francisco and San Diego, in addition to Cleveland.

Cathy Hyland Hannon wrote from Battle Creek, Michigan (where she has lived since 1972) that her seven children, seventeen grandchildren and one great grandson live all over the country and the world. Cathy worked for twenty one years as a deputy clerk for the District Court and sang with her church choir. Since her husband, Jack’s death twenty two years ago she has volunteered in schools, helping children with reading and for the past six years has tutored a boy who has severe dyslexia. It must be thrilling for Cathy, who ranks reading and learning among her greatest pleasures, to see this boy actually enjoy reading. I, too, tutor young children who are struggling with reading and I can attest to the great rewards to the volunteer from this work.

Mary Cavanaugh Lewis wrote about the trip she and Tom took to Ireland, reuniting with relatives, and then sightseeing on the west coast of Ireland with their daughters, son in law and three grandchildren. They also visited Hong Kong and Cambodia and the UK this year. Their daughter, Maureen, is relocating to London, where she will remain

with her present law firm in its new headquarters. (Seems like a good excuse to visit a wonderful city!) Mary also wrote about the stress seen in families over college admission for grandchildren. This is a comment that has been heard regularly from many grandparents of the class of ’57.

In September, a dozen of us from the class of 1957 met at the Heights Grill for lunch and lots of talk. Present, were the following: Marsha Corlett Sarakaitis, Diane Golubski Toronski, Lynn Mann, Kitty Callinan Busher, Marianne Rocco Walton, Carole Margareth Marciano, Joyce Raviotta, Mary Lou Deucher Fuerst, Kay Winters O’Mally, Janet Wakefield (Sr. Praxedes, OSU), Judy Patterson Nieser and Barbara Schuele Schubert.

We plan to do it again, with an even larger group, in the spring. On October 9th Beaumont hosted the “Fabulous 50’s Luncheon.” Peggy Madigan and Edie Holtzheimer Gruber joined the usual group, who reported that it was great to get together. I was sorry to miss the fun.

On Nov. 29 Mary Ann Kinney came to Cleveland and all those available met at the New Heights Grill on Lee Road. A good time was reported as well as fun to catch up with Mary Ann. These notes come with a promise to plan a lunch, with plenty of lead timed, after the last freeze.

Her kids and grandchildren are not close by, which can be difficult. Pat Friel Mayer is moving to the Pennsylvania countryside, close to her youngest daughter, and two hours from NYC. She will keep her house in California, winter, don't you just know!

Touchstone Gallery is excited to present Mary D. Ott’s solo show Branching Out: Original Prints. The exhibit features hand-pulled prints that celebrate natural arboreal beauty.

Sr. Sheila Tobbe and Sr. Ritamary Welsh will be “roomies” at the Merici Crossings, the new residence at Ursuline College . It will accommodate 70 sisters, and as the numbers dwindle, lay people will be invited to move there. They will have a chapel, community dining room, great room and ministry offices as well as underground parking. These St. Ann’s “girls” will still be having pajama parties 60+ years later! Mary Jo Rini hosted Linda Barucky, Kati Callahan Crawford, Regina Fana, Pat Gilmore Kearney and Mary Redmond O'Malley for a weekend at her condo on the beach in Naples. Fun, games, laughs and wine as they remembered Paulette & great old times.

Mary Jo is moving to Treetops in SC—an hour south of Charlotte. Good Luck in the beautiful new home she’s building! Carole Dugan Benz gratefully retired as CEO of ETC Compliance Solutions in Tucson on June 1, 2017. Her new email is carbuzz45@gmail. com if you’d like to get in touch. Columbus for her daughter’s 50th, Cincinnati for granddaughter’s graduation, 10 days in Greece—Athens, Mykonos and Santorini, then niece’s destination wedding in New Orleans in Nov. They did the traditional “2nd line” afterward with band and stilt walker-all waving silk handkerchiefs! Finale in

Arizona for Thanksgiving with their daughter.

Kathy Gyarmath Eckhart and husband Steven welcomed their first grandchild, Emma, in Sept. 2018! After 34 years in DC this prompted their retirement to N. Carolina to be near their daughter’s family. Sharon Gates Moynihan lives in Washington State. She and husband Pat have raised 3 biological and 6 foster children. Two are still growing up at home—a bit different than their planned retirement but they love it. She supports women’s independence but has loved being a stay at home mom. After our 55th reunion, she and Suzanne Hughes reconnected via the web—rekindling an

old friendship. Gerry Hall Urbanic has downsized after sadly after losing her husband, Jack, Christmas 2017. Kati Callahan Crawford: For the first time in 13 years we spent the holidays in Ohio. We hosted the “mom no work” Thanksgiving.

My daughter and daughter in law cooked and grandkids did cleanup! My granddaughter did ask while doing the dishes (for 24) if we could have paper plates next year! (NO) My daughter & husband did Xmas eve dinner and a huge open house for all the extended family Christmas day. Our adult children opted not to exchange gifts with their families but pool the money and support a family in need...warmed my heart to see such charity and true Christmas spirit.

Micki Krupitzer Mackin is retired and has an art business on Etsy called Micki Word Art. Micki has three grandchildren. Sally Sauto Gambatese is retired as an adjunct professor at Kent State. She volunteers as a North Pole elf for the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Rail Road on the Polar Express!

It was great to hear from Fran Pertz Zettl, Helen Callahan Hirsch, Patricia Kurtz, Mary Myers Ferron, Patricia Bresnahan, and Carol Young Sterba. Carol mentioned that she retired several years ago and now resides in Florida but spends the summers in Cleveland and always tries to see old friends. So keep the news coming. Mary Beth Walton Guzzo mbguzzo@gmail.com Happy New Year! The holiday season found many of us on the move. Brenda Woodworth O’Toole and her son visited her dad in Pebble Beach, CA. Judi Szabo toured Southeast Asia. Mary Beth Walton Guzzo returned to Shaker Heights to spend Christmas with her mom and family. She also connected with Tess Dreka Rosch. Tess and her husband spent time over New Year’s in Sturbridge, MA. Peggy Wood VanDyke vacationed in Cabo San Lucas. Kathy Simoson O’Brien is spending part of the winter in Naples, FL. Nice! Karen Ferrato Small, owner and chef of The Flying Fig, was a James Beard semi-finalist for 2018.

In a true farm-to-table approach, her restaurant has been named one of Cleveland’s best. Well done Karen! Karen Bartko Reming has had another successful year of Baskets by Karen. Karen also organized a pre-Christmas get-together at Geraci’s Restaurant of Pepper Pike on December 18th. Along with Karen were Brenda Woodworth O’Toole, Mary Sciotto Novotny, Tess Dreka Rosch, Mary Roncagli Johnson, Pat Connelly Dubiel, Kathy Simoson O’Brien, Mary Beth Jamieson DiCorpo, Maryann Anderson Falco, Ellen O’Haire Celmer, Juliana Scurec Barnick, Sue Robinson Andrassy and Kim Binder Carroll.

Pat Connelly Dubiel and her husband hosted a sleep-over for all eleven grandchildren. I wonder if anyone got any sleep? The grand-baby stork delivered our first granddaughter in July.

It was a trip of a lifetime to see all the beautiful churches, temples, Wailing Wall etc. in Jerusalem, and the food was fabulous.

She recommends it to all and everyone to make it to see Israel.

1975 Class Representative: Sharon Latkovich Valente drsvalente@gmail.com Susan Gorris retired from 43 years of teaching Visual Art at the elementary, secondary and University levels, and is now working full-time in her studio making oil paintings, ceramic sculptures and figure studies. She just completed a year-long organization of the Aldergrove Mural Project: a public collection of eleven large outdoor painted murals that depict individual artists’ descriptions of her beautiful community.

Her image depicted a selection of wild and domestic animals that she is involved with

as a farm and pet owner and volunteer for a wildlife rehabilitation center. Suzanne DeGaetano, co-founder of Mac’s Backs Books in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, was the recipient of the Martha Joseph Prize as part of the 2018 Cleveland Arts Prize winners.

The Martha Joseph Prize is awarded to an individual or an organization that have made a significant contribution to the vitality and stature of the arts in northeast Ohio through exceptional commitment, vision, leadership, and/or philanthropy.

As noted in the Heights Observer article

by Robert Brown, the Arts Prize trustees explained why they chose Suzanne for the award: “Within the Cleveland arts community, she has established herself as a patron saint among emerging and seasoned poets, writers and artists. She knows most by name. Her generosity and commitment to Northeast Ohio’s literary community knows no bounds.”

Having received a new liver in July of 2017, Judy just celebrated her 35th year as Environmental Program Manager for the Urbana, Illinois Park District. Our sympathy to Cathy Crawford, who lost her mom, Bea, in September. Cathy continues to help manage Summit Animal Hospital in Northfield, and train and show collies. Joan Thoma Carney is now an instructor for the Institute of Catholic Studies at John Carroll University. Rita Price Keuber is one busy freelance writer. Her work appears in Currents and other Cleveland publications.

Donna Ruther, having retired from East Ohio Gas/Dominion after 32 years, is enjoying her second career as a reference librarian for Euclid Public Library. Molly Rourke Stinn, CPA, is a director for Corrigan Krause in Westlake. Barbra Kay has been a teacher for the New York City Department of Education for over 12 years. Our sympathy to Cooper Friend on the loss of her brother Bill this January. Friends, I am sure there are exciting and wonderful things you are doing that should be shared and celebrated.

We have some sad news to pass on to you about one of our classmates. Karen Killeen Dittoe passed away late this fall. Please keep Karen's family in your prayers. We will miss Karen's smile and laugh. Mary Stevenson was selected to attend the Canonization of the Archbishop of San Salvador, St. Oscar Romero at the Vatican. She has done much work to support the mission in El Salvador.

Mary is the Executive Director of the COAR Peace Mission that serves Salvadoran children in need. Congratulations to both Diane Coviello Mackay and Judy Puckett Hannon on the birth of grandsons. Diane welcomed Finn into her family and Judy welcomed Peter into her family. We want to extend our sympathy to Meg Rourke Murphy and her family. Her brother Dan passed away in April. Please keep her and her family in your prayers.

Sister Martha Mooney ’58 also made the trip! Melody credits her career in Politics to Sister Martha’s suggestion to run for Student Council when she was at Beaumont.

Joi McLaughlin Wilson is a proud new grandmother; During Joi’s recent visit to Cleveland Jean Gruber, Arlonda Stevens, Karen Quilter Brady, and Ann LoGalvo Bolton got together to catch up Monica Hart Finch got married August 25th in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Karen Quilter Brady, Ann LoGalbo Bolton, Chris Ralstin, Michelle Dowdell Haley, Susan Grace Reid Kathy Parker Eva Di Franco-Swan and Ronna Toombs. Ronna all participated in celebrating Monica’s wedding weekend.

Peggy Monastra celebrates a milestone with her job: She has been working with the same company for 25 years now—G. Schirmer Inc.—music publishers in NYC. Also three years ago she began to do additional freelance consulting work—with living composers and also in the opera field.

Mary Callaghan “Cal” Zunt is working for the Rocky River Public Library in Rocky River, Ohio. She and her spouse, Brooke Baker, will celebrate five years of marriage in 2019. Barbara Sweeney Rabin is working at a new clinic starting this month in Chardon called Ubuntu Wellness teaching medical yoga therapy and Self Myofascial Release workshops and classes— also offering physical therapy and personal wellness training.

CELEBRATING BEAUMONT ALUMNAE married Chris Chase on April 7, 2018. Danyll Jones Lockhart is getting married to Mitchell Blake, Sr. on August 10, 2019. As most of you know, I had a Bone Marrow Transplant last December in an effort to cure my Myelodysplastic Syndrome (a bone marrow failure cancer). The transplant was successful, and I am thrilled to report that I’m in remission! But then an unknown virus caused pneumonia in May, and after almost two months in ICU, I was given an emergency double lung transplant. I am recovering very well, and provide this update mostly to say that I wouldn’t have had this success without all the love and prayers from the Beaumont community—my classmates and beyond.

Every day presents a different challenge. My office is within the Reeb Avenue Center, which is also home to 14 other non-profits, which serves as a ‘hub of hope’ on the South Side. The area I serve is between Nationwide Children’s Hospital and the Racino (City limits). One of the ZIP codes I serve is 43207, which has high rates of opiate overdoses, high rates of infant mortality, and high rates of poverty. (Just to put it in a public health perspective.

And yes, I work very closely with Columbus Public Health!) In December, I will receive my Master of Public Administration from Ohio University George Voinovich School.

I have been working on this for two years.

First, she recently married Joey Young! All the best to you both from all of us, Pom! She made the transition from the sky to the road when she switched from flight attendant work to driving the big rigs! She and Joey just got a new truck, and they drive together!

One sleeps while the other drives. How cool is that? She lives in Cleveland but ends up all over the place through work. The Class of 1992 and the whole Beaumont community lost a true gem with the recent passing of Danielle Tripodo. We miss her, and are sending prayers to her family and friends.

Some of the donations to Beaumont from our class have been dedicated to her memory. Please consider her when making your contribution this year. Miriam Metlock is moving from Panama City to Tallahassee, Florida. With this move comes a change in work—she will switch from being a nurse on a progressive care unit to working in a Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. This move is prompted in large part to her being a victim of the Category 4 Hurricane Michael earlier this year. Ever the optimist, she kept us all posted about how they were doing and

stayed positive even in such a hard time.

One special thing she noted was receiving a care package from the girls in our class to help them get back on their feet. This class is really something special. Erin Marks Labovitz writes from Indiana: “I have news!

Kids Éamonn (10) and Maeve (8) are getting in as much skiing as possible before the Brazil move and come home every day with a tally of bison, moose and elk they saw from the school bus. This new year (2019) marks the third year serving on the Planning & Design Commission for Fairview Park, the community in which I purchased my first home almost two years ago. This past year, I welcomed a new four-legged family member to the house. Bubba Watson Kramer is a nearly two year old black lab who joined the family in February and is nothing but love.

Evelyn Cash-Santos graduated from Beaumont in 2001 and went on to earn her Bachelors of Science degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from The Ohio State University in 2006.

Evelyn joined Boeing in Wichita, Kansas in 2006. She spent the early years of her career in the Aerodynamics group supporting FAA certification analysis and flight test activities for the 767 Tanker, 747-8 and 787-8 airplanes. In 2010, she and her husband Luis relocated to Seattle, Washington where she went on to be promoted to management in 2015. Evelyn led the team that successfully achieved commercial certification of the USAF KC-46 tanker airplane, a military derivative of the 767 designed for aerial refueling. She now leads the team responsible for ensuring that every 747, 767 and 777 airplane delivered from the Boeing factory in Everett, Washington meets the safety and airworthiness requirements of the FAA. Evelyn is an active mother of two amazing children: Elisa (age 4) and Jason (age 1 and a half). Last year, she climbed the Space Needle (832 steps!) in addition to completing her first Spartan Sprint Obstacle Course Race while also leading Fit4Mom classes for new moms in the North Seattle area. Evelyn is passionate about staying active even with small children and inspiring moms to get out

and stay active with their families. Evelyn also recently launched a new podcast: Objectively Typed discussing the Objective Personality System, a self-growth and personality typology system based on the cognitive functions of Carl Jung. Evelyn is also an avid tabletop gamer, always on the lookout for the next amazing board game to try and explore.

They are planning a June wedding in the Napa Valley of California. Kerry Monreal and her fiancé, Nic Cross, became engaged in September and are planning a November 2019 wedding.

Kerry is an oncology nurse at the Cleveland Clinic. Chrissie Primisch became engaged to Mike Abounader on September 14 while on vacation in New Orleans. They are planning a 2019 wedding. Jennifer Ina Adamczyk married her husband, Jake, on September 29th and honeymooned in Italy soon after. Congratulations, Jen and Jake!

We know you will do great things in Columbus! On a final, sad note, the Class of 2002 lost its valedictorian, Kirsten Hansen Zeiss, on December 27th, after a valiant battle against brain cancer.
