Child Care Services Supervisor Update Thank you to all of you for the support during our first annual professional development day held on June 13th. At the ELCC, We had 45 out of 61 families attend the parent-educator meetings and the feedback was very positive. I had some valuable feedback from some SAS families and we will absolutely be making some changes for next year. If you have anything that you would like to share regarding the PD day, please feel free to contact me. As this was our first one, there are certainly a few kinks to work out for the next one. Next year’s PD day closure will be announced as soon as possible. Reminder – Please call and let us know when your child/ren will not be attending the Centre or if there are any changes to their regular schedule and hours of care. This helps to ensure that ratios are met during opening and closing times of the day. If there are changes to your child’s vacation schedule that was submitted, please email me directly. Please note that the ELCC down-stairs rooms may close at 5 or 5:15 pm, so you will have to call the upstairs line (780-929-5913) if you need to contact us after that time. If and when the down-stairs rooms close early, the children will combine in the rainbow room until parents pick up. Please be aware that our full-time educators work a 7.5 hour day and are scheduled on various shifts to accommodate ratio. While we do our best to have consistency in each room it can be difficult to maintain when they have time off. Please feel free to text the room cell phone at any time to relay information about your child and to ensure your messages or information is conveyed to the appropriate room educators working that day. Sunshine Room Cell: 780-399-2156 or Sunshineelcc@beaumont.ab.ca Green Room Cell: 780-399-2475 or Greenelcc@beaumont.ab.ca Rainbow Room Cell: 780-862-9046 or Rainbowelcc@beaumont.ab.ca Gold Room Cell: 780-863-7386 or Goldelcc@beaumont.ab.ca Kinder Room Cell: 780-862-3207 or Kinderelcc@beaumont.ab.ca School Age Site cell: 780-862-7803 or sas@beaumont.ab.ca We recognize that parents will have days when they aren’t working but will still want their children to attend the child care center (vacation days, summer holidays, sick days, maternity leave). We ask that on these days, you bring your child in after 8:00 am and pick up prior to 4:30 pm, this still provides up to 8.5 hours of care within that day but helps us maintain staffing ratios for the opening and closing shifts. This will also ensure some balance for your child and give them the opportunity to have a shorter day as well; play is hard work after all!!

Have a wonderful month! Jodie

It's been quite exciting being outside with this beautiful weather. The children are having so much fun exploring all the different things nature has to offer. We are going on walks around the neighbourhood and discovering unique sound and creepy crawling creatures. Our most exiting find so far is what we called “Secret Place”. While visiting the Elephant park, the children discovered that there was an awesome space under the pine cone tree, big enough for them to walk under; but with an enclosed feel of a cave. They spent almost an hour finding treasures around the park and going to hide them in the secret place. We have also started working on our garden, the lettuce is ready for us to enjoy for one of our snacks; we have also planted carrots and peas. The children are beginning to understand how to tend the vegetables, it's adorable watching them with their little watering cans and helping pull out the weeds. The mud kitchen has become another popular out door hang out spot for the children. We are hearing a lot of interesting conversations happening as they cook their many recipes. We are so proud of the great communication and language skills the children continue to show, we are hearing a lot of full sentences and statements as they communicate amongst themselves and with us. Thank you for bringing in their swim wear. We will have our splash days whenever we can and send them home on Fridays for washing, please remember to bring them back every Monday. As we enjoy the outdoors, we will do a lot of water play as well so please make sure your little one always has a change of clothes. As always, thank you for all your support as we continue on our journey in the world of learning. Tendai and Stephanie

It’s hard to believe that June is already over! We spent so much time outside this month and everyone is loving it! This month we have spent lots of time focusing on our garden, the children have all been so helpful making sure our seeds have enough water so they can grow. We’ve noticed a few things sprouting already, the peas, carrots and beans are well on their way. We also took some time this month to plant some beautiful flowers in our park too, they children love looking at them and touching them to see how soft they are! With so many warm days this month we have been using a lot of water outside to keep the children cool and to add to our play and our outside exploration. We hooked up the hose to our mud kitchen so now the children have access to water whenever they need it. This has been a great addition to our outside play and the children are loving it. They have been spending their time washing the toys, filling buckets to add water to the sand to create many different things, watering the garden, flowers, grass and each other.. haha. With all this water play we’ve had to change the children a few times so please insure your child has extra clothes in case they do need a new outfit during the day.

Welcome to July!!! We plan on spending lots of time outside this month, visiting various parks around Beaumont. Depending on the weather, we hope to have weekly splash days as well. As per the letter that was sent home last week, we have many things planned for the children. We will let you know in advance if you need to send anything extra for your child, ex: picnic lunch etc. Naptime for the Rainbow room will be from 12:30 to 2pm for the first two weeks for July and then 12:30 to 1:30 for the last two weeks. In August naptime will be eliminated for all Rainbow room children who are moving down to the Gold room in September. Thank you for completing the vacation forms, if there are any changes please let us know in advance as this may impact our staffing. We hope everyone has a great summer!!! Thank you, Lorena, Tammy and Beth

July is here which means that vacation time is upon us once again! Although it is hard to believe, summer has arrived. It feels like just yesterday we were welcoming a new group into the Gold Room family, and now it is almost time for graduation. As you have seen throughout the year, your children have not only grown taller but have also learned many new skills that will help them be successful in school. June was a very busy month in our room, as preparation for and participation in Senior Appreciation Week captured our focus for a while. The children had a great time singing the National Grandparents Song, as well as participating in the Highland Dance with the young dance group. When people are raised in different time periods, perceptions of the world can be quite different, and this can lead to difficulties in understanding one another. Because of this gap in understanding between the young and the elderly, it is important to find links between younger and older generations. This can be accomplished by helping children learn how to relate to older adults, and vice versa. We hope that next year we will be invited there again, or maybe the seniors can visit us at the center. Our Father's Day Sport Event showed the children how to care about their families and how to make connections between the center, home and the broader community. We surprised the dads and grandpas with "All About Dad" information sheets, games, homemade pizza and we had fun just spending time together. A big thank you to all our honored guests for attending this small but important event. Starting July 3rd, we will discontinue having Toy Day (to get ready for the school routine), and we will instead attend three sessions of Story-Telling at the Public Library where the children will participate in singing, playing and creating art, guided by the library program coordinator. We will also have Splash Days and we will visit the community parks, weather permitting. As it is hard to predict weather as well as UV index, we ask you to bring a labeled reusable bag with your child's bathing suit and a towel so we can keep it in the classroom and enjoy water activities as often as possible. After each Splash Day, please take the wet items home and replace them with fresh ones for the next use. Our Mud Day was very exciting and a bit messy as we spent the day painting, baking, planting flowers, searching for treasure, and exploring the obstacle course, mud being our main ingredient.

Happy Birthday to Jake!

We are very excited that the kinder kids are finished school and all of our summer activities are getting started. If you have not received a copy of our summer calendar then please let us know and we will be sure to get you a copy. On days that we have outings we will be leaving the centre at 9am. If you are arriving that day at 9 please have your child already sunscreened. Most days that are outings will be picnic lunches as well, please be sure to pack a lunch that does not need to be heated. On days that the children are asked to bring something with them to enjoy the days activities, we will do our best to send a reminder text the night before but please refer to your calendar often. We are very excited for our summer activities and know the children are too! They all helped us plan our special days. As a friendly reminder we would just ask that each child have a hat and water bottle available everyday. We do spend as many hours outside as possible and the days have already been pretty hot. Thanks so much Amy, Michelle, and Lyndsey

SCHOOL AGE SITE

Schools out already. It just seems like the first day of school was yesterday, the year has gone by so fast. Everyone now has received the summer package with the daily activities for the month of July and August. Please check the calendar daily so that both your child and you know what is happening each day. We have lots of fun filled activities that will happen both inside and outside. An extra change of clothing and a towel would be helpful. There is not guarantee that the children will stay dry or clean on any day. If you do bring in a towel please mark it with their name so that we know who it belongs to after it has been in the laundry.

PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOUR CHILD HAS A HAT AND WATER BOTTLE AT THE SITE AT ALL TIMES. We do go outside in the morning and also in the afternoon. On our field trip days or any day that we will be leaving the site please have the children here at least 30 minutes before the departure time. That way we can make sure that they have the necessary items with them. REMINDER THAT ON THESE DAYS PLEASE NO WARM UP LUNCHES AND THAT THEY HAVE A HAT AND WATER BOTTLE. We will leave signs on the doors when we leave the site that will state where we are going, what time we will be back as well as the cell number which is 780-862-7803. If you have any questions please ask any staff member. We hope that everyone has a great summer. SAS
