Beaumont Communiqué

YOUR COUNCIL KEEPING YOU CONNECTED September 2017 | www.beaumont.ab.ca

Municipal Election 2017: Why vote? We are very fortunate to live in a country with a strong democracy where we regularly get a chance to exercise our democratic right on Election Day. Our forbearers earned that right for us. Voting helps to safeguard our freedoms. A democratic community can only survive if its citizens see participation in the political process as a duty and a responsibility. “Democracy is the foundation upon which all our hopes and dreams are built,” says Mayor Camille Bérubé. “It is a strong base, built by strong people using determination, belief and vision. On October 16, 2017 you will have the opportunity to exercise your rights as we go to the polls to elect a new mayor and council.” This will be the last issue of the Beaumont Communiqué released under the guidance of the current council as the next issue will see a new group of elected officials representing Beaumont. To the outgoing council, we thank you for your hard work and dedicated service. To those who choose to run again, we thank you for the continued commitment to the community and your courage in declaring yourself a candidate. To those citizens who are considering

taking a run at local politics, the positions are very rewarding and you will have an opportunity to make a real difference in your community, now and into the future. Whether you decide to run for office or not, you have a very important task to perform on October 16—you need to get to the poll and vote. The legitimacy of a government lies in the fact that it is elected. Do your part to ensure your voice is heard on October 16. The polls will be open Monday, October 16, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Beaumont Community Centre, 5204 50 Avenue. Parking is available on site and the facility is fully accessible.
