Property Assessments and Tax Notices Beaumont’s 2017 mill rate has been set.

Council adopted the 2017 Mill Rate Bylaw which reflects an average municipal tax increase of 2.551 per cent. The average assessment value for residential properties in 2017 is $426,299. Based on this average, a homeowner would see an increase in property taxes of $10.48 per month. This number is effective for people who are not on the Tax Installment Plan.

The annual combined assessments and tax notices will be mailed by May 31. Taxes are due June 30, with a 6 per cent penalty applied on July 1. We appreciate your assistance in making payment in a timely manner.

The 2016 tax adjustment takes into consideration Beaumont’s operations; the demands from residents on certain levels of municipal services; the impact of major projects; the requirements of a growing community; and the need to remain competitive in the Capital Region. Council strives to seek a balance between the current and future needs of residents and our community.

In order to determine the assessment value

of your home, assessors gather actual sales data from July 2016 to set your assessed value. Beaumont’s total assessment is based on the market value of individual properties, so your taxes may be higher or lower than the average depending on your home’s value.

Beaumont will host an open house where you can meet and talk with the property assessor, Tuesday June 14 from 3 to 6 pm in Council Chambers. If you are unable to attend the open house and you have questions about your assessment, contact Alexandra at 780929-3306.

Aqua-Fit Phase 2 Consultation Results

Recycling Round-up Event and Yard Waste Collection

The Aqua-Fit Phase 2 consultation to gather residents’ preference for a combined field house/ice rink to be located adjacent to the swimming pool has concluded. Residents overwhelmingly chose Option 3. The next steps will be to complete the conceptual design and the detailed design, then bring forward the proposal to the 2018 budget workshops for consideration by Council. You can see the Aqua-Fit Phase 2 architectural drawings online at www.beaumont.ab.ca/aquafit2. Check back for periodic updates as the conceptual plans will be added to the website in the coming weeks.

Beaumont is hosting a hazardous waste, paint, and e-waste round-up event on Saturday, May 27, from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm at the Operations Facility, 24130 Township Road 510. Residents are invited to drop off your household hazardous waste, paint, and electronic waste. If you have questions, contact Environment at 780-929-4306.

Transit Update The Beaumont Express commuter transit service will begin operating September 5. The service will offer six trips to Century Park in the morning and four return trips in the afternoon. Buses will depart from the park & ride location at the Ken Nichol Regional Recreation Centre. Watch the Beaumont News, our website and social media for more information over the coming months.

Block Parties The Beaumont Asset Building Committee is helping residents connect with their neighbours! We support 10 Asset Building Block Parties per year for the months of May, June, July and August. With an Asset Building Block Party you receive access to town barricades to block off your street as well as a $100 Sobeys gift card. Email Kaylene.McKinney@beaumont.ab.ca for an application form.

Spring Extra Curbside Yard Waste Collection The Spring Extra Curbside Yard Waste Collection Week takes place May 30 to June 2. Please put your yard waste in paper bags. Only paper bags will be collected. Questions? Contact Environment at 780-929-4306.

Events Fire Truck Pushing-in Ceremony May 24 Join us for this fire department tradition as Beaumont’s firefighters push a new pumper truck into the fire hall for the first time. Festivities begin with an official kick-off ceremony featuring local dignitaries, O Canada and celebratory cake in Four Seasons Park. Take in the food trucks; bouncy houses; main stage; community stage; photo booth; yard games and many more activities! Fireworks will cap off the night at 11 pm.

2017 Neighbourhood Renewal Program The 2017 Neighbourhood Renewal Program (NRP) is coming to streets in Beauridge, Beau Meadow, and Centre-Ville. Maps and details are available at www.beaumont.ab.ca/construction.

The 2017 NRP will see the sidewalks and gutters replaced and the roadway repaved in various location around Beaumont. The streets that will be renewed are: Beauridge • 5500 and 5600 blocks of 54 Street • 5600 block of 53 Street • 5300, 5400, and 5600 blocks of 56 Ave • 5600 block of 55 Street • 5400, and 5500 blocks of 57 Ave • 5600 block of 56 Street Beau Meadow • 4300 block cul-de-sac on 43 Street north of 43 Ave Centre-Ville • 5000, 5100, 5200 block on 49 Ave Construction is slated to begin after the May long weekend (weather dependent, of course) and run approximately three months.

“There will be minor disturbances for the duration of the project,” says Project Manager Keaton Seaby. “Crews will work to minimize delays. At the end of the project, residents will have fresh concrete sidewalks, gutters and asphalt. We thank people in advance for their patience. ” The total project budget is $1.39 million; however, with the current economic times we expect to see very competitive bids and we expect to come in under budget.
