Municipal By-Election Dates Announced Citizens of Beaumont will go to the polls on Monday, February 5, 2018 for the byelection to fill the vacant council position.

“The polls will be open at the Beaumont Community Centre for extended hours, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on by-election day,” says Mayor John Stewart. “In addition, there will be advance polls for citizens who wish to vote prior to by-election day, as well as special mail-in ballots for those who cannot attend on by-election day.”

Advance polls are scheduled to take place in Council Chambers at the Town Office,

from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. two dates: • Saturday, January 27, 2018 • Saturday, February 3, 2018 Plus, citizens who wish to vote by special mail-in ballot should contact the Town Office to request the special ballot, and then follow the instructions. Special ballots must be received by the returning officer by noon on Monday, February 5, 2018.

2018 Budget: We Want to Hear Your Thoughts

Town of Beaumont is Rewriting its Land Use Bylaw

Budget Workshop The Budget Workshop will be held in Council Chambers on Friday, January 19, 2018 starting at 5:00 p.m.; and continuing as required on Saturday, January 20 starting at 8:00 a.m. The workshop is intended to provide Council with an opportunity to ask questions about the budget and to provide direction to Administration. Residents are invited to attend to observe.

The Town of Beaumont is rewriting the municipality’s Land Use Bylaw (LUB) and invites you to learn about the rewrite and provide feedback.

Budget Open Houses Residents are welcome to provide comments and feedback at the upcoming Budget Open Houses. There are two opportunities for residents to review the budgets, provide input and ask questions.

Monday, January 29, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Aqua-Fit; and Wednesday, January 31, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Ken Nichol Regional Recreation Centre Budget Approval Comments collected at the open houses will be presented to Council for consideration at the February 13, 2018 Council meeting. The final budget will then be presented to Council for approval at the February 27, 2018 Council meeting.

What is the Land Use Bylaw (LUB)?

The LUB is a statutory document which provides the Town with a tool to regulate and control the use and development of land and buildings in the community. This Bylaw affects every landowner in the Town of Beaumont.

The LUB divides the municipality into specific districts that dictate what uses are permitted and/or discretionary; contains details on how to make applications for development permits; how and by whom decisions on applications are made; and the conditions that can be attached. The LUB also contains regulations regarding setbacks, landscaping, parking, building heights, and signage to name a few.

How can I learn more and provide feedback?

It is extremely important that we hear from you on any concerns, issues or comments you may have regarding the current regulations or any proposed changes to the LUB. We will be hosting a variety of engagement events during the first half of 2018. Information on these events will be published in the Beaumont News and on the Town’s social media sites. Renewals are due January 31, 2018 at the Beaumont Administration Office, 5600 49 Street. Please ensure you renew by this date so you can continue doing business in Beaumont.

Family Day Monday, February 19, 2018 Bring your family out for fun, games, magic, and outdoor fun at the Beaumont Community Centre, 5204 50 Avenue. Activities will be running from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. Treats, games, crafts and outdoor activities!

Payment options for your business license • In person at the town office by cash, cheque or debit • Through your bank • Night drop box at the town office (no cash please) • Mail (no cash please) IMPORTANT: Unpaid business licenses will automatically be charged a $25.00 late fee on February 1, 2018.

Citizen Request Tracker A new tool is available to residents. It’s the citizen request tracker, an automated service request tool that routes requests to the correct department for action. The citizen request tracker is on the website at www.beaumont.ab.ca/RequestTracker.aspx.

To get there, hover over “I want to…” at the top right of the homepage. Under Submit, click Service Request and follow the instructions. You need to create an account the first time you use the citizen request tracker.

Franco-Albertan Flag Raising March 1, 2018 Calling all Francophones and French language lovers! Come and celebrate our thriving Francophone community and the rich history of a strong French presence in Alberta.

In March, communities across the province hold ceremonies to proudly raise the Franco-Albertan flag. Beaumont’s seventh annual ceremony and flag-raising will be held at the Beaumont Community Centre, 5204 50 Avenue. Entertainment and refreshments will follow the ceremony.

Spring Community Awareness Saturday, March 3, 2018 This annual event is an opportunity for community groups to promote their programs, services, accept registrations, memberships and recruit volunteers. The Town has criteria for participating in this event and details/event registration can be found online.

It’s Snowtime! www.beaumont.ab.ca/snow The annual war on snow is underway. The website contains useful information about Beaumont’s snow clearing plans, including service level maps for plowing and clearing of roads and pathways. There is also an FAQ and daily updates from Public Works staff about snow plowing and snow clearing activities.

Do you have a fire hydrant near your home?

If so, please help us clear snow and ice for 1.5 m around the hydrant. This helps ensure the Beaumont Fire Department and Public Works operators can access the hydrant quickly in an emergency.

for Residential Ice Control Remove vehicles from snow routes We place signs on the streets 48 hours prior to commencement of snow removal. Please be sure to remove your vehicles from the streets when your neighbourhood is being cleared. Graders and plows cannot do a thorough job if they have to maneuver around vehicles.

Your cooperation helps us clear your street effectively and efficiently. Municipal Enforcement will continue working with Public Works to ensure that streets can be cleared safely and efficiently.

Clearing the roadways Beaumont winter maintenance crews are trained and ready to make the roadways of Beaumont safe. Do not push snow onto the road when clearing your driveway. Town staff will plow your road as soon as the priorities and weather conditions allow.

Please clear the sidewalk adjacent to your home within 48 hours of 2 cm of snow accumulation in order to keep sidewalks safe for pedestrians. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Beaumont offers free rock chips to town residents. You can pick up rock chips for sidewalks and driveways 24/7 in the northwest corner of the Aqua Fit Centre parking lot.

Please bring your own bucket and shovel.
