Joint Funding Agreement: Aqua-Fit Centre Phase II Leduc County and the Town of Beaumont recognize the importance of having quality recreational infrastructure that encourages people to adopt healthy lifestyles and contributes to making communities vibrant and inclusive. Through a joint funding agreement, Leduc County and Town of Beaumont residents will benefit from the expansion and modernization of the Aqua-Fit Centre. From 2019 to 2023, Leduc County will invest $2.4 million towards the $29.5 million expansion of the Aqua-Fit Centre. “Leduc County has worked with the Town of Beaumont on plans for the expansion of
the Beaumont Aqua Fit Centre for the past two years. I’m incredibly pleased to support this recreation initiative. This investment in recreation will directly benefit Leduc County residents in the area and is an excellent example of how working together with our municipal partners benefits the entire region.” - Leduc County Mayor Tanni Doblanko “Thanks to the joint funding agreement between Leduc County and the Town of Beaumont, this major investment will allow us to develop and share quality community services for our residents. The construction of a multifunctional Aqua-Fit Centre will also allow residents to engage in regular sports and physical activities, promoting the adoption of active lifestyles.” - Town of Beaumont Mayor John Stewart The Aqua-Fit Centre expansion will feature an NHL-sized ice surface with seating and viewing areas, a climbing wall, a highschool sized gymnasium, a running track and a fieldhouse that can accommodate indoor soccer, lacrosse and host events with seating. 2018 Fall Programs Looking for new activities to take up this fall? Check out the current Fall 2018 Activity Guide online at beaumont.ab.ca/Activity-Guides, or pick up a hardcopy at the Aqua-Fit Centre, Ken Nichol Centre, Town Office or Beaumont Library. There are a number of exciting new offerings this season. Sign up now for the Wednesday Night Cooking Classes (Child, Teens and Adult) led by Steve Brochu, the head chef of the legendary Chartier to take your kitchen skills to the next level. Do you have adults or children at the house itching to pick up a pencil and paintbrush or building blocks? Our Young Artists of Beaumont, Kids Comic Book, Bricks 4 Kidz or “A Taste of Art” Thursdays are for them. Are there some active and expressive young ones in your house? If so, the wide variety of Ballet/Jazz, Hip-Hop, Dance Pl3y or Zumba Kids classes should burn off some of that energy! We also have new sport offerings with more Sportball classes, Teen Yoga and our brand new Acro Dance & Rhythmic Gymnastics classes led by certified instructors and coaches. We also have more ways to help adults stay active with multiple fitness offerings including NIA barefoot cardio dance, Pound, Zumba classes, along with afternoon Barre, Yoga and Bootcamp classes! November is Family Violence Prevention Month in Alberta In the month of November, hundreds of Alberta communities and thousands of individuals are actively involved in preventing family violence by providing public education and services. Family violence is still a very real problem that happens in our community. Family violence isn’t just a ‘women’s issue’ anymore. We wear the high heels to highlight the fact that women have been affected most by family violence, but also to show that it is not only their burden to bear. Family violence is the abuse of power within relationships of family, trust or dependency that endangers the survival, security or well-being of another person. It can include spousal abuse, elder abuse and neglect, child abuse and neglect, child sexual abuse, parent abuse and exposure to abuse of others in the family. No single organization or sector is going to solve this complex social issue alone. Your local Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) is partnering with other local agencies to help community member get involved. The key to preventing family violence is raising awareness. To help raise awareness for family violence in your community you can: • Ask local businesses to display information about family violence prevention • Participate in the Climb a Hill for Jill event on November 9th in Beaumont • Contact Beaumont FCSS @ 780-929-1006 to seek support or get involved.
Beaumont is Rewriting its Land Use Bylaw: Our Zoning Blueprint Refresher: What is the Land Use Bylaw?

The Land Use Bylaw is a regulatory document which provides the rules on how land can be developed within Beaumont. The Land Use Bylaw identifies different land use districts throughout Beaumont and specifies what types of development may be built within those districts, such as commercial or residential uses. Each district also has specific development standards that control the size, landscaping, parking, signage, location, and amount of buildings. It regulates things that indirectly influence all areas of our lives. For instance, the Land Use Bylaw directs the heights of buildings, where stores are located, how far to get to daycare, and what size of fence to build. The Land Use Bylaw also contains details on how applications for changes can be made, how they are assessed, and who makes the decisions.
Don’t worry, we are not finished yet! We still need your input to make sure we got it right! We will be presenting the draft Land Use Bylaw at two Open Houses in the fall. Confirmed dates will be advertised in the Beaumont News, and at www.letstalkbeaumont.ca/ourzoning. This will be your opportunity to look at what has been drafted and to see if the proposed regulations align with the goals of our community! Hope to see you there!
What have we been up to? We have been hard at work this summer drafting Beaumont’s new Land Use bylaw called Our Zoning Blueprint. The Our Zoning Blueprint Team has been writing draft regulations built on the feedback we received from the public through an online survey, open houses, and various workshops that were held over the BEAUMONT ZONING BLUEPRINT past year. Remembrance Day Sunday, November 11, 10:45 am, CCBCC (5204 50 Ave) This outdoor service will be held in the parking lot at the CCBCC. A parade led by Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry members will march from the Ken Nichol parking lot to the service site; members of the public are welcome to join the march. Following the Remembrance Service, a light lunch will be served inside of the Community Centre.
