Child Care Services Supervisor Update We hope you are all enjoying summer and the nice weather. It is hard to believe we are in August already! At the ELCC we have had fun exploring how are bodies can move during the Yoga session on July 12. We have another yoga session scheduled for August 15. The children also had the opportunity to visit the petting zoo on July 18 and some went to a Reptiles and Amphibian presentation on July 24 th. We had an unannounced licensing visit on July 11th, in the morning and everything went great! August 24th at 3:30-5:15pm. – “Squealy Moo” presentation and family picnic. We are having a theater company come out once again this year to do an interactive, engaging play for our children; we really enjoyed it the last four years. We would like to invite families to participate and stay afterwards for a family picnic and to receive your child’s portfolio from the past year. More information and an RSVP request will be sent out closer to the date. We hope you can join us! At the SAS the children have been busy doing things around Town, going on some fun field trips, baking and engaging in water play activities. On August 30th, we will be hosting the year end BBQ at that site. More information and an RSVP will come out closer to the date. Looking forward to seeing you all there! August 24 will also be our summer students last day. We wish Kennedy and Becky all the best as they head into year two of the Early Learning and Child care program at MacEwan. I have included the “gifts for staff guidelines” for those parents that have requested it.
On August 24th , we will be saying good bye to the children in the Kinder Room as they start at the School Age Site on August 27th to begin their new adventure as grade one students. Throughout the week of August 27– 31 , we will start transitioning the other ELCC children into their new rooms. Please check in with the educator’s in your child’s room if you have any questions about this process. On September 4th we will be welcoming 20 new children to the ELCC program and 3 new children to join the SAS.

Sunshine Room Early Learning Child Care

It’s been an exciting month in the Sunshine Room with all the great activities that we have been able to do outside . The children are asking a lot of questions about all the new and different things they are seeing and coming across in the environment. We have been able to offer lots of opportunities for them to explore as many areas as they can walk to. Splash days and any form of water experiences are of course an awesome addition in the warm weather. Mud day was one of those days that the children absolutely enjoyed, messy as it was, but what great opportunities to explore texture while mixing , pouring , measuring and cooking! We are so proud of the children and how they are remembering safety rules as we walk around the neighbourhood. They always remember to stand along the fence as they wait for a staff to lead the way at the start of a walk, as soon as they hear the words “find a partner” they know right away we are about to cross the street. Its just priceless watching them cross the street while holding hands and encouraging each other to walk. Our summer project of growing the garden is slowly coming along , we planted kale and mustard seeds. The children are doing better understanding how to take care of them and doing their best not to pull them out and “feed” them sand. The best part for them is watering them with their little watering cans. There is so much fun and learning taking place in and outside of our room. Thank you to all the families for supporting our summer programming as most afternoons you pick them up they are in the mud kitchen and sometimes muddy or wet as they continue exploring outdoors or there is a bag of dirty clothes from all the fun they were having throughout the day. Green Room Early Learning Child Care

This month we had so much fun exploring some new parks with the children! We spent lots of our mornings walking to new parks like Bellevue, Coloniale, Corner Park and Orange Park. The children were so excited to explore and tackle these new parks, when we would arrive in the mornings they would usually greet us with “what kind of adventure are we going on today?” These new parks challenged us in ways we haven’t been challenge in the Green Room Park. We practiced climbing up rope ladders, large rock walls and we had to maneuver our bodies through many different obstacles. We also took advantage of the hot days and had many splash days, we discovered that the sprinkler was a big hit and that the children really enjoying transporting the water from one pool to another and into the sandbox. It’s hard to believe that our year together is coming to an end, it’s been an amazing year getting to know each and every one of you. We will miss you guys very much, but we are so excited for the children to explore and learn so much more as they move to the Rainbow Room! We’ve gotten to witness so much growth and learning in the last year and we are so happy that we were able to be a part of all of this learning and exploring. The last full day in the Green Room will be Wednesday, August 29th. The Rainbow Room has a very similar setup as our room. Your children will have an outside cubbie and a smaller cubbie inside the room where their water bottles and lunch bags will be kept. We are very confident that the transition will be very smooth and we know that the children are very excited about the move. July was a great month, filled with many adventures and beautiful weather! We were very busy visiting various parks around town. The children’s favorite so far is Bellevue Park, a close second is Elephant Park because of the zip line. We had two fabulous splash days, created our own volcanoes, did some yoga, had a bike day, went to a petting zoo, explored the church hill and had some picnics. August will be another great month. We have planned an ice cream day, a treasure hunt, Wacky Wednesday, costume day, pajama day, another bike day, Slurpee day and more splash days. We will be having yoga again on August 15 th in the gym and our year end Squeely Moo presentation and BBQ on August 24 th. Just a reminder, please send your child a hat daily. Also after each splash day we wash and dry the children’s swimsuits and towels and they are being stored in the bench is the entrance way. Thank you, Lorena, Tammy and Beth

Here in the Gold Room, we had extra events happening on a weekly basis. Our story-telling sessions were fun as our children learned many new stories and games and were able to participate in craft activities. In August, we will visit the library again, expanding the children's passion for books, stories and reading. It is hard to believe but it is almost time to start thinking about Kindergarten, school supply shopping and planning for the next step. In the Gold Room, we had a wonderful time working with all your children! As teachers, we have so many memories to cherish, photos to keep and stories to tell, but most importantly, we have a sense of accomplishment that all our children are ready to make this next independent step into school life. Following the children's interests throughout the year showed them that they are citizens in charge, making intelligent, responsible decisions, who have a strong sense of identity, that they are connected with and contribute to their world, that they are confident and involved learners, and finally that they are effective communicators. Thank you to all our volunteers, parents and grandparents for finding time to spend with us and to assist us in many events and activities. Once again thank you for allowing us to be part of your child's life. Dates to remember: August 24, Squeely Moo Play and Family BBQ at 3:45pm- 5:15pm. Kinder Room
Wow, it is hard to believe how fast this year has gone by! We are so sad to be saying goodbye to such a wonderful group of Kinders. We have had such a great year getting to know all of the children and sharing in their daily adventures and learning. Our summer has been filled with many exciting days both in our room, and around town! We are excited to see what August brings us as we celebrate our last few days together before the children move up the the after school care! We are planning a couple trips down to their site before the final move, to help ease the transition for the children so they have a better idea of where they will be come September. If you have any questions about the move at all please feel free to speak to any of the staff in the kinder room, and we will be happy to help! Sadly we will also be saying goodbye to Michelle, as her last day in the kinder room will be August 17. It will be very hard to say goodbye to all the wonderful families we have had this year, but we wish everyone all the best in their new adventures to come!

Gifts for Staff Guidelines **Please note that gifts for staff are not a requirement. This information has been put together as a guideline for those parents who have requested we do so, as families often want to show appreciation in August prior to their child moving to the next room, at Christmas time, or on Child Care Provider Appreciation day recognized in May of each year. Over the past few years we have worked as a team to revise our gift policy to be more inclusive to all staff members participating in the Town of Beaumont’s Child Care Services. Although we appreciate the kind thoughts behind the gifts to individual staff, we would prefer that families recognize and show gratitude to the team as a whole instead of individuals. The process: Whenever we r eceive gifts fr om par ents, we pool them together and dr aw for them at staff meetings or divide them up fairly at Christmas. This ensures that all staff receives something within that year. Please do not feel that you have to bring in 20 of something so that all staff receives one, just know that they are placed together for the draw even if they are addressed to an individual staff. We would prefer that gifts be addressed to the room that child is in and then the supervisor will distribute appropriately. Below are some different ideas that the team brainstormed together for parameters and ideas around gift giving should you choose to do so.
A card of appreciation for room staff – give an example of a time when we have done something you noticed that went above and beyond. Gift Cards; in no more than $10, $15 or $25 denomination; one per child/room. Ideas: ITunes, Cineplex, Indigo/Chapters, Home Hardware, IKEA, Michael’s, Toys R Us, Wal-Mart, Starbucks, Booster Juice or restaurants. Give a donation to a charity in our name, such as to the Beaumont Christmas Elves, or a children’s charity. Sponsor a World Vision Child on our behalf. Get together with a few other families and provide a breakfast or lunch that staff can enjoy on their breaks. Baking or a fruit tray that we can enjoy in the staff room. Chocolates, candles, bath/other gift sets. A plant or book for your child’s play room. Flowers. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate or treats for our staff room.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss for further clarification, please contact the program supervisor at each site. We are open to your comments and suggestions. Again this is a guideline for those parents that choose to do so but gift giving is not expected or a requirement of our program.
