INTRODUCTION

This portfolio is a reflection of my journey as an architectural designer, shaped by experiences across diverse geographies— from the evolving urban landscapes of Ethiopia to the academic environment of Politecnico di Milano. My work explores the intersection of space, memory, and social dynamics, with a focus on sustainable practices and human-centered design. Each project presented here is rooted in contextual inquiry, addressing challenges ranging from informal settlement upgrading to climatic responsiveness in tropical architecture. Through drawings, models, and narratives, I aim to convey not only technical competence but also a deep engagement with the cultural and environmental layers that shape built form.

Objectives:

This course provides a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between architecture, energy efficiency, and building technology. It equips me with knowledge of construction techniques and the criteria for selecting them in different contexts. A strong emphasis is placed on sustainability in architecture, exploring global challenges, building-integrated energy-saving strategies, and the latest European Nearly Zero Energy Building (NZEB) standards. Through case studies of European and Italian best practices, I learn how a holistic approach is essential throughout the entire design process.

Project Outcome:

As part of the integrated Studio work, I apply sustainable design strategies and advanced building technologies to a complex architectural office project in Milan. This project allows me to implement energy-efficient solutions while synthesizing insights from parallel courses in the semester, ensuring a multidisciplinary and well-rounded design approach.

Objectives:

The aim of Enat Bank Headquarters project is to create a highrise corporate building that integrates harmoniously with its urban context by balancing scale, accessibility, and architectural presence. The design aims to establish a strong financial landmark through refined geometric composition, enhance the surrounding neighborhood with active public spaces, and promote sustainability and functionality for long-term urban contribution.

Project Outcome:

We created a building that harmoniously integrates with its surroundings, emphasizing accessibility and a strong connection to the urban context. The design features organic volumes that follow the site’s natural contours, blending seamlessly with the landscape. A carefully designed plaza in front of the building functions as an inviting public space, enhancing the architectural presence within the city. Through the combination of simple geometric forms and organically treated façades, along with the strategic use of natural lighting and ventilation, the project achieves a sustainable and engaging environment that brings nature closer to everyday urban life.

SYMBOLISM: FLOWER

A flower is the symbolic representation of a mother in which it has beauty; beauty in the way its petals envelop its offspring (nectar), protecting it from all of the danger the world, beauty in the way it blossoms, letting its offspring soar into the wind giving rise to a new generation. The blossom of a flower serves as, not only the spread of its own kind, but the continuation of life in general. Flowers help bring in biodiversity, much like a mother, makes a home for all.

FLOWER

The principal theme of the project is the relationship of the building with the space around, the relationship it has with the surrounding area and above all the it’s access.

Objectives:

The Project focuses on practical strategiesthat promote a site’s adaptability, flexibility, and regenerative potential. This exploration culminated in a comprehensive plan for San Cristoforo’s rejuvenation, addressing four key objectives. Firstly, the project seeks to dismantle existing barriers and enhance accessibility, fostering seamless movement throughout the district. Secondly, it champions resilient water management, tackling issues of flooding and stormwater drainage through innovative solutions. Thirdly, the project prioritizes the creation of vibrant public spaces, fostering a sense of community and encouraging interaction among residents. Finally, acknowledging the fertile soil resources, the project strives to promote sustainable food production within the district itself.

Project Outcome:

our team’s response to the challenge of integrating a bold urban proposal with the historic Aldo Rossi ex-terminal. We embarked upon this journey not just to create a master plan, but to craft a sustainable and vibrant future for San Cristoforo. Our vision meticulously considers the site’s unique context, drawing upon the principles of Urban Design (UD) Steps instilled within us during our studio education.

Complex Urban Design Project I Milan

Msc Studio Course Sustainable Multidisciplinary DesignProcess Studio; Prof. Tadi Massimo (SMDP)

Objectives:

The project aimed to revitalize the Bovisa district in Milan by strategically redefining its functions to create a mixed-use, sustainable urban environment. Key objectives included the integration of residential units, student housing, a student center, office spaces, commercial areas, cafes, restaurants, and open socializing zones. The design was informed by thorough investigations, focusing on mobility challenges such as pedestrian and vehicle accessibility, and the disconnection of roads. Solutions included extending road networks, incorporating green spaces, and enhancing mobility through public transportation intersections. The goal was to foster community engagement through interconnected spaces, pedestrian-friendly zones, and a focus on low-carbon mobility.

Project Outcome:

The design successfully revitalized Bovisa, creating a vibrant urban environment with distinct public, semi-public, and private zones. The project features rainwater harvesting systems, urban farming, and biodiversity promotion through carefully selected plants that thrive in the region’s calcareous soil. The student center and housing units were designed with a focus on functionality and sustainability, incorporating passive systems, green ventilation, and sustainable materials such as cross-laminated timber and reinforced concrete. The integration of green spaces, renewable energy systems, and environmentally conscious design elements collectively contribute to a resilient and socially inclusive district, enhancing the overall quality of life for both residents and visitors.

Church Design I Addis Ababa

Architectural Compitition

Beantenew Biresaw + the team

Award: 2nd Place

Objectives:

The primary objective of this project was to design a contemporary Ethiopian Orthodox Church that honors the deep spiritual, cultural, and architectural traditions of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo faith, while addressing the needs of a modern and growing congregation. The design aimed to reflect the symbolic and functional elements of Orthodox liturgy—such as the tripartite spatial division (Qidist, Qeddest Qeddusan, Mekdes)—while also integrating sustainable design principles, climate-responsive strategies, and accessible public spaces. The church was envisioned as both a sacred place of worship and a community anchor—rooted in tradition yet open to innovation.

Project Outcome:

The final design resulted in a spiritually resonant and architecturally expressive church complex, blending traditional Ethiopian ecclesiastical elements—such as domes, arches, and axial processions—with contemporary materials and construction techniques. The spatial arrangement clearly defines sacred zones, encourages communal interaction, and maximizes natural light and ventilation. Passive cooling systems, rainwater harvesting, and the use of local materials ensure environmental sensitivity. Landscaped courtyards, shaded arcades, and symbolic geometry reinforce the spiritual journey and provide contemplative spaces for prayer and gathering. The church stands as a landmark of cultural continuity and architectural dialogue between past and present.
