editorial Welcome to this week’s editorial, “Begone damn pox”.

As I was lying in my death bed (OK, an exaggera(on being made by a male with a Man Cold) I found myself reflec(ng on the fragility, and more recently, the certainty of mankind when faced with ever evolving poxes.

By my own life experience I have encountered many a bacteria, disease and virus. Some were gentle that set out to put me on my backside for 24 hours or more whilst others had different inten(ons all together.

From (me to (me, depending on where my travels took me, I would prepare myself with a vaccina(on for this and that, I would prepare my first aid kit with all manner of scripts and acquaint myself with the latest informa(on about outbreaks. My travels were off the beaten track and wai(ng for me there were all of the best bugs going.

Oh the stories I could tell that would shock most of you with their vivid detail while amusing many who enjoy schadenfreude accompanied by exo(c scatological anecdotes.

But as I lay in by bed earlier today I thought of the current pox that is playing out in me. Quite a clever pox that entertains rib cramps when one least expects it, blocked and weeping ears, blocked sinuses, conjunc(vi(s and a raging razor cough that results in aching stomach muscles as you aDempt to suppress the need. In all a very stylish liDle bug. And no, three RAT tests all declare it isn’t Covid.

As to where I picked up this virus? I really don’t know. Living a near hermit life and going to town once a week to buy groceries the window of opportunity is very narrow. And given I always wear a mask that window reduces further. But, this sneaky liDle virus found a way in. And that is the point. They are sneaky.

Each and all of them. And they all want one thing. To mul(ply. And without having legs or wings they are smart enough to use us as their carrier.

I marvel that somewhere in the DNA of these bacteria, viruses and diseases is an understanding that humans have body fluids. If you infect the human eventually one or more of the humans exit-ports will deliver the next genera(on of bug to thrive and prosper. Its as if they know we don’t wash our hands fas(diously, are a bit forgeJul when it comes to keeping our distance and that we love to congregate in every sense of the word.

With eight billion humans on the planet you might think we have the upper hand. The fact is that the fungi have us well and truly out numbered followed by the insects. In fact we are well down the list compared to just those two. But the leader of the pack is bacteria. Its everywhere. Just wai(ng to morph into its next evolu(on. Much like the viruses.

If we think Covid we now have a virus that is morphing from one version to another working out how to beat vaccines and immunity while adding a few more side effects each evolu(on. The latest are loss of libido and hairloss. Ask the scien(sts and they have no idea what might come next. It’s enough to have us think that moving to mars might be an op(on.

But what if we arrived on Mars and found a message in a boDle “Life here is not sustainable. We have decided to try Earth. It has oxygen and water and appears Mostly Harmless”.

Beach Road works restart Monday Work re-starts Monday (1 August) to finish the upgrade of Beach Road between Edward Road and Corrigans Beach car park in Batehaven.

Eurobodalla Council advises drivers should allow extra travel (me for the next two weeks, with traffic reduced to single lane in both direc(ons. Traffic control will be in place.

Construc(on of the two southbound lanes was completed in June. This final stage will see the two northbound lanes rebuilt with new deep asphalt road pavement, resul(ng in a strengthened road that will need fewer repairs.

Businesses and residents in the construc(on zone have been no(fied, and large message boards will be in place.  On Monday and Tuesday, 8 and 9 August, vehicle access to driveways on Beach Road in the work area will not be possible from 7am to 4pm  On-street parking will not be available in the work area for the dura(on  Edward Road will be closed at Beach Road and traffic will be detoured via Corrigan Crescent  Pathways on both sides of the road will remain open and pedestrians will need to cross at the traffic lights  The northbound bus stop will be relocated 200 metres north during the work Road work will also start further along Beach Road at the Bavarde Avenue roundabout from Monday 8 August, las(ng around three weeks. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direc(on while new spliDer islands are installed.

Na(onal Tree Day plant swap | Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Garden This Sunday is Na(onal Tree Day, and what beDer way to celebrate than a visit to Eurobodalla’s beau(ful Botanic Garden.

Head along between 10am and 2pm for a Council plant swap, where you exchange weeds from your garden for some local na(ve species. Have a yarn with staff from the environment team about crea(ng a bushfriendly garden, and while you’re there, take a look at the four new display gardens you can replicate at your place.

Mossy On Gardens cafe will be open for coffee and lunch. Sounds like a preDy fine day out. Eurobodalla residents are invited to bring environmental weeds from home and swap them for free na(ve plants at the market stall to celebrate Na(onal Tree Day. You can also ask ques(ons about pesky plants in your garden, learn more about bush-friendly alterna(ves and waterwise gardens, and get great gardening (ps and advice from the Environment Team.

Environmental weeds such as African Daisy and Asparagus Fern spread easily, are highly invasive and require resources for their removal that would be beDer spent elsewhere. Unfortunately, many weed outbreaks start unknowingly in people's backyards. Plant swaps are all about geQng to the source of weed outbreaks before they have a chance to spread, and giving you a great alterna(ve for your garden.

By exchanging weeds, you remove a seed source that would have spread into local bush or farm land, and you become part of the sustainable movement that protects and enhances local bush land.

That’s this Sunday at the Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Garden, open 9am to 4pm with the plant swap running 10am to 2pm.

The Narooma & District Lions Club held their Change-Over Dinner Mee(ng at Club Narooma on Tuesday 26th July with special guests aDending. They were Zone 5 Chair Robyn Bedford, Pambula/ Merimbula Lions Club, and Past District Governor, Gordon MaDhews, Pambula/ Merimbula Lions.

Gordon had the pleasure of installing the new Board and it’s Execu(ve of President, Mrs. Ricci Bishop, Secretary Mr. Tony Fahey and Treasurer, Mr. Jack NoD. Robyn inducted two new members, Graham and Wendy Litchfield. So expect to see new faces serving you at the Dalmeny Market, Lions BBQ Trailer shortly.

It was also a pleasure to be able to donate $1,000 to the Northern Rivers Flood Appeal via the Australian Lions Founda(on who is suppor(ng flood affected people in the Region.

Our Lions Club would like to thank all those who supported our Dalmeny Market BBQ’s from February to June, and other fund raising ini(a(ves over this period.

The Region will need suppor(ng well into the future, so any money s(ll being donated is gratefully accepted.

Once the formali(es were over, a lighter note was struck as much laughter ensued when a round of “Celebrity Heads” was played, with the celebri(es being, The Queen, Skippy, Elvis and “Me”. An oldie but a goodie to engender good fellowship.

Youth Ac(on Plan survey Eurobodalla’s young people are being asked to complete a quick survey to help the Council prepare a new Youth Ac(on Plan.

Council’s community par(cipa(on and youth coordinator Rhonnie South says crea(ng a good plan means hearing from the shire’s 12 to 24 year-olds about what is important to them, what they care about and what they want to see more of locally.

Rhonnie says the Youth Ac(on Plan will outline what the youth services team will deliver over the next four years and the survey will help decide what types of events, ac(vi(es and services will be on offer.

BBay School Principal a1ends a Strategic Leadership Course at Harvard University The Batemans Bay High School P&C Associa(on is pleased to inform the community of the recent school holiday aDendance by their school principal Ms Paula Hambly at a high level strategic leadership course at Harvard University, USA. “We were excited to hear Ms Hambly describe how the knowledge gained from the Harvard course will be applied to the process of renewal and rebuilding that is already underway at the school”, said Alex Malcolm , P&C President. “We are fully behind her in all her efforts”.

“The course was very (mely as our school is going through a period of change management looking at all our systems and processes” said Ms Hambly.

“Brilliant workshop facilitators pushed me and other educators to think outside the square and be brave in design thinking which is all about crea(ve problem solving and puQng student needs above everything else” she said. “ The underlying ques(on posed at the workshops was ‘how can a highly strategic way of thinking and leading have an impact on rela(onships with students, teachers, families and community and how can this set students up for future success’? said Ms Hambly. “ I am eager to work with my teams at school to move beyond mere involvement of par(es but to actual engagement. This means listening to students, teachers, families and community and using what we learn to make the best decisions, take posi(ve ac(on in the classroom and partner with families in children’s learning, Ms Hambly added.

“It was great to reflect that dedicated teachers in my school, working together, were already making big gains, a good example being our Transi(on Program- Year 6 into 7, Year 8 into 9 and Year 10 into 11, said Ms Hambly.

Ms Hambly won a highly compe((ve scholarship to enable her to aDend the course. The applica(on process was tough and only three Australian principals were granted scholarships.

“The experience reignited my passion for leading learning and the desire to pursue further professional learning to equip me to work well with my school teams in our goal to make Batemans Bay High School the best place it can be” concluded Ms Hambly.

Eurobodalla Meals on Wheels providing valuable service Each year we conduct a survey of our clients, and one of our volunteers on how our organisa(on can do more to help the clients and the volunteers. We want each group to enjoy being part of our service to the Eurobodalla community.

Recently, the Aged Care Quality Standards Commission visited us over three days to assess what we are doing. Their report was wonderful, and we all felt very pleased with their comments.

As part of this process, clients were contacted by the Commission for feedback. Some told us what they were asked but one wrote a leDer to tell of her experiences and of her gra(tude.

She has allowed it to be shared.

Dear Alan, Replying to your request for feedback about services I am ge.ng from "Out and About".

I am new to the area having to leave our home, being a camp on an opal mining claim for 27 years, with health being the reason. Since being here I have been my husbands sole carer. While able to get my husband into heh van, I was able to manage but that of course didn't last long. Anglicare have been wonderful and without their help I dont know what I would have done. To cut a long story short....

My husband of 67 years passed away. The end of my world had come!

I could't talk, wouldn't leave the house. I just sat and cried and cried!

A6er 3 months of just wan ng to die, my sons had had enough of me! Then along came "Out and About". No way!

I had no friends here, le6 then all at the Ridge! At this stage we had been here for three and a half years. The only people I had any contact with were the Chemist, Doctors, Hospital, IGA, and Vinnies.

The thought of mixing with a group of OLD people, going to clubs, hotels and on other ou ngs just wasn't on my death wish!!

Well of course, under pressure the first trip was organised! Of course, the rest is history.

The lass who helped me into the bus was Cathy and she told me it was her first day and she was as nervous as me, but it was the best thing that happened to me!

With the bus full of all these OLD people, this was the first of my weekly social ou ngs.

I get picked up right at my door, different places, wonderful stops, morning teas, hotels, and clubs for lunches (S ll haven't found one who can cook real Fish and Chips! Having had a Fish and Chip shop on Manly Beach for 27 years, perhaps I am set in my ways about how REAL Fish and Chips should be cooked!)

They never stop planning our trips. Honestly, can't tell you how they mother us! It's like we are their parents (or children!)

It makes me feel ashamed I don't do anything to help them!

My Tuesday ou ngs are my only social life and gives me something to look forward to. It's like we are all one big family. All the girls are so thoughAul, and the drivers know all the special liBle hideaways to make every trip special.

My two sons live in Batemans Bay and check only that "I'm s ll with it"! I'm sure such has been my mental state.

I was very isolated here. No friends and nothing to go out for. Going out with them for coffee made no sense, can have coffee at home.

I am now socially independent, part of a wonderful family. I have gone out more in 3 months than ever. Never had heard of 'Out and About' but sure do now.

I thank you all again. What would life be worth for us oldies without these wonderful volunteers. They sure make these oldies are very happy.

EuroSCUG – Friends Sharing Experiences with Digital Devices.

Local Computer Group EuroSCUG holds monthly mee(ngs on the first Wednesday of the month at Moruya Golf Club.

Generally, these mee(ngs begin with a guest speaker, followed by a morning tea break allowing ample (me for members to socialise. AZer morning tea, members join small groups which cover computer related topics, oZen using tablets and mobile phones. A Help Desk is available to sort out problems.

At the June mee(ng, Tricia Kay, Honorary Curator of the Wallace Herbarium at the Eurobodalla Regional Botanic, gave a fascina(ng presenta(on on the history of the herbarium. The herbarium, established in 1987, is a heritage listed collec(on of dried plant specimens collected from our region, several of which are only found it the local area. Fortunately, it survived the 2019 bushfires and it is currently being digitally updated by volunteers, who use digital microscopes, web sites such as iNaturalist and Atlas of Living Australia, and apps including Google lens and Plant net to confirm the accuracy of entries.

In July, the guest speaker was Rob Ingram, from Seniors Rights Service (SRS). This service advocates for over 65s as a community legal service, covering maDers such as homecare packages, human rights, re(rement villages, and guardianship issues. It is free and confiden(al. Rob explained the difference between a Power of ADorney and an Enduring Power of ADorney, and spoke about elder abuse. which can include financial, physical or mental abuse, or neglect or use of drug restraint in nursing homes.

He showed members how to navigate their way through the maze of aged care services, including government services such as My Aged Care. Other services provided by the SRS can open up communica(ons between clients and carers, and help with systemic challenges, especially during Covid.

Assistance with End-of-Life planning, and Advanced Care can also be provided.

Recently EuroSCUG held a Short Apps Course, covering Google Photos, Snap Seed, Calendar, and Google Keep. This proved very popular and follow up sessions have been conducted.

At the next mee(ng, on Wednesday 3rd August, the guest speaker will be Geoffrey Clarke from Marine Rescue. He will describe the developments in electronic naviga(on and communica(on systems used by Marine Rescue NSW to locate distresses vessels and their crews to bring them to safety in accordance with its mission of “saving lives on the water”, managing searches and caring for any injured people.

AZer morning tea, there will be a presenta(on on “Taming” Windows 11with (ps and tricks, a Q & A session, a Beginners session, and a Help Desk.

Reading Gadfly 242 By Robert Macklin Only now can we appreciate just how lucky we were that we gave Scott Morrison the boot. Freed from the pretenses demanded by his political minders, the former Prime Minister of Australia has finally told us what really guided his decisions for the nation.

In doing so, he exposed a terrifying weakness in our system of governance: a delusional figure can, and often does, rise through the political ranks to control the levers of power, and the fate of us all.

In Morrison’s case, the delusion derived from the vast fantasy contained in a work that combines the babblings of soothsayers and fanatics in Part One, with a tale in Part Two in which a god somehow impregnates a young married woman with the sole purpose of having the child grow up to be crucified. This, it says, would serve to expiate the ‘sins’ of subsequent human beings. The biggest sin, of course, being not to believe the tale at all.

Morrison chose the Perth Pentecostal church of Margaret Court for his fifty-minute speech in which he laid bare his delusion. He not only repeated his firm belief that his election win in 2019 was a miracle devised by this god, but so was his loss on May 21, including no doubt his demand to Minister Karen Andrews to release the ‘on water’ operation that turned back the Sri Lankan boat. “I still believe in miracles,’ he said. ‘God has secured your future, all of it. Yeah, even that bit.’

So, his god has now let him off the political leash, freed him to rave his balderdash in public wherever he goes. He’s heard the cry from within and his eyes are afire with faith.

Alas, he’s not the only political leader to have been infected by some ridiculous idea wrapped in the robes of religious panoply. Indeed, an entire nation – one with whom we have chosen to shelter beneath its nuclear umbrella – is utterly besotted by a similar delusion. In fact, it’s so wacky that it elected Donald Trump and might well repeat the dose in 2024.

Certainly, our Scott Morrison would be praying that his bromance with The Don would find favour with his miracle maker.

And it doesn’t matter a tinker’s cuss that Donny’s delusion is a horse of an entirely different colour. His faithful vision is a chestnut Centaur with a flowing orange mane and a red cap. Yet the evangelicals line up to vote for him in their millions even though – or perhaps because – his election would be the starting gun for civil war.

If so, it would not be the first time that religion sparked a bloody conflict in this imperfect world. On the contrary, it’s the very nature of ‘faith’ that makes reasoned compromise impossible to secure, since reason plays no part in the delusional matrix. Only the iron fist within sacred glove is left to settle the score.

Our own First Nations were decimated by the shock troops of Christianity, backed by the settlers’ artillery. But at last, it seems, we are awakening from the delusion. The Census tells us that for the first time the ‘no religion’ cohort is taking the lead and it’s no coincidence that we are now seeing the Frontier Wars for the mindless horror they always were.

And maybe, just maybe, we can begin to learn the lessons of sustainability and respect for the land and its creatures they vouchsafed to us.

Indeed, I caught just a TV glimpse of it, but I’ve now confirmed it. Morrison’s successor, Anthony Albanese, declined to ‘swear’ to any god, but rather simply ‘affirmed’ that he would ‘solemnly and sincerely serve the Commonwealth of Australia, her land and her people.’

There is hope.

Reading—A beer with Baz Bazza folded his newspaper and took a moment to observe Mick, as he swaggered to the bar table. The light accentuated the dints in his shiny bald head and he exchanged a minimal nod for the odd ‘G’day there, Mick.’

Mick slid a full schooner across to Bazza and folded his arms.

He took a moment to scan the bar, pulled on his cauliflower ear, raised a single eye and finally took a sip. He nodded acknowledgment to Bazza.

They sipped their beers in silence.

Bazza mo(oned to speak but opted to rub his chin.

Mick let out a single sigh and looked beyond Bazza.

The silence con(nued.

Bazza shiZed on his bar stool.

“Well…….ah…. Mick…. The pollies are back in Canberra. It all seems to have a bit of a different…….”

Mick squeezed his eyes.

“Yeah….. I saw the opening of parliament on Tuesday, Bazza. It’s a bloody love in.”

Another extended silence and sips of schooners.

“I wouldn’t go that far, Mick……I mean….”

Mick cut Bazza off with a grunt.

“Parliament has become a chick flick, Bazza. A bloody rom-com. All this touchy-feely and compassion is making me sick. We’ve got a new Treasurer oozing sincerity and empathy while it costs me well over a hundred dollars to fill up the car with petrol. It will all end in tears.”

Mick’s forehead glistened.

“Hang on, Mick…….you can’t……”

Mick slapped the table.

“No Bazza, you just wait and see……..it will be Kumbayah with the Greens and before long every minority group in the country will be out of the woodwork demanding aDen(on.”

“Well…..nothing wrong with a bit of consulta(on, Mick. I reckon…..”

Mick had one eye closed and his Cyclops stare silenced Bazza.

“Before you know it, Bazza, there will be commiDees all over the place, inquiries and green papers. They will go for cabinet mee(ngs in regional centres, listening tours and the like. Mick leaned in.

“They need to go in hard and oppose, oppose and oppose.”

Bazza shook his head and Mick rested both fists on his hips.

Another extended silence.

“I beDer shout another beer, Mick.”

“Well I’m not opposed to that, Bazza.”

UNSUSTAINABLE Recently, I held forums on local health issues in Moruya and Bega. They were aDended by over 60 members of the general community as well as local doctors, nurses, midwives and other health workers.

It was a distressing experience to hear the despair of these cons(tuents concerning the current health system.

It reinforced my decision to take up this role as the local Member for Bega in the NSW Parliament.

The Bega electorate has 3,500 residents with a history of cancer.

There are 8,000 people with a mental health condi(on.

There are 27,000 cases of arthri(s, asthma, diabetes and heart disease shared by many individuals.

There are more than 11,000 children under the age of 14 years.

But how many GPs, specialists, nurses, midwives and allied health workers do we have?

Certainly less than we have lost. Specifically, the aDendees at the forums iden(fied the mal-distribu(on of paediatric, psychiatric and geriatric services.

They noted the reliance on FIFO locums who are being employed at great expense and without the provision of outpa(ent consul(ng or elec(ve surgery.

They noted that out of area local health districts are being funded to provide services which are or should be available locally.

Most disturbing was the feedback from staff who reported that they were “scarcely maintaining services” and that the system was “poisonous” and “going backwards”. They commented that there was “chaos”, “disorganisa(on” and “lack of cohesion”.

There has been resigna(on aZer resigna(on due to the sense of ingra(tude, lack of care, and from being overworked, unsupported and under-resourced.

There are repeated submissions to my office from residents who ask why do they have to birth in Canberra, why are antenatal clinics being closed and why are they being referred outside the coastal health network.

I have received submissions regarding the lack of the most basic rights such as the right to good con(nence, demen(a and cancer care.

Work has not commenced on the new Eurobodalla Regional Hospital, nor have the final bed numbers and models of care been released.

Any cri(cism on health services is invariably denounced as poli(cising the issue. This is not a personal poli(cally mo(vated cri(que of the NSW Government. These are the experiences of the community which I have been elected to represent. I cannot be an apologist for this Government’s neglect and failure on health care in my electorate.

I have met last week with Ryan Park, Shadow Minister for Health and representa(ves of the New South Wales Nurses and Midwives Associa(on to discuss nego(a(ons towards safe working models in our local hospitals.

Our community par(cipants iden(fied the need for State and Federal consulta(on to resolve the issues of lack of GP access, workforce recruitment and reten(on.

With the NSW Shadow Minister for Health, Ryan Park, and our local Federal representa(ves, Kristy McBain and Fiona Phillips, I will work on these issues.

In the next two weeks I will be aDending the AMA Na(onal Conference and the Na(onal Rural Health Conference to hear from and to share our needs with na(onal health workers.

All the low-lying land has been under water, but since the slight cessa(on from rain on Thursday the water is fast receding. Owing to the heavy rain in Araluen, our river rose feet above the ordinary level, overflowing near the old showground [Albert Stewart Park, Shore Street] and at the steamer’s wharf [Riverside Park]. The mails and telegraphic and telephonic communica(ons have been disorganized. The mail due here on Wednesday, via Nowra, arrived at 4 p.m. Thursday. Yesterday (Friday) the Nowra mail was despatched but the Bega mail was unable to get through, owing to Bodalla flats being under water. …

A WELL-ATTENDED mee(ng of farmers was held at Mosquito Bay on Wednesday night last, 19th inst.. The object of the mee(ng was the building of a co-opera(ve cheese factory. The tone of the mee(ng was most enthusias(c, and it was unanimously decided to erect a factory on a suitable site. Mr. H. B. O’Neill was appointed Hon. Secretary to this progressive movement.

THROUGH the horse he was riding falling on him on Wednesday, Mr. Arthur Thomson so severely sprained his knee that Dr. Cutler found it necessary to put the injured member into plaster of Paris.

H. J. Thomson will offer for sale today (Saturday) at the shop in Church Street, the late Mr. Robert Mitchell’s property at Congo, containing 244 acres of well-grassed land, divided into paddocks.

EARLY on Sunday morning Mr. Clem Luck and his family were awakened by a crackling noise and on arising to inves(gate discovered the detached building, comprising a dining room, kitchen and store room, ablaze.

The alarm was at once given but the fire had too great a hold to be subdued by only buckets of water, and despite the willing efforts of the neighbor’s, the building together with the contents valued at about £150 were consumed by the powerful element.

Mr. H. P. Luck made a plucky aDempt to enter the store room but was forced back by the flames which burst through when the door was opened. Only by the combined efforts of all hands and the calmness of the morning was the main building saved. Included in the ar(cles burnt were large presses containing all the children’s clothing. Much sympathy is expressed for the Luck family in their loss.

sports BROULEE RUNNER’S RESULTS WEDNESDAY 27 JULY 2022 As the weather improves, we can aDract more families to the run. We were pleased to honour Emerson Carver, who celebrated her 30th run with the group. The Carver’s are great supporters of the event with Mum Taryn, Dad ScoD and sisters of Emerson, Alexis and Sophia, the family have notched up 360 runs between them.

Fresh from her holiday on Magne(c Island, where she did plenty of walking, Julianne Domeny was able to improve her 2-kilometre (me by 50 seconds. Julie AmphleD con(nues her steady improvement with yet another PB in the 3-kilometres by 20 seconds.

We can look forward to the actual appearance of Karen Harding-Smith and Dave Connaughton, who are on track to achieve significant milestones with the event.

Batemans Bay Seniors Tennis Tournament - 19-21 August The Batemans Bay Seniors Tennis Tournament will be held once again at the Batemans Bay Tennis Complex at Hanging Rock. As you may be aware Batemans Bay Tennis Club is a non-profit organisa(on run by volunteer members, we are very proud to be hos(ng this popular event in partnership with Tennis Australia.

The tournament which is played over the August 19th to 21st weekend caters for players upwards of 30 years of age. There will be all the standard events like singles, doubles and mixed for 30, 40-, 50-, 60- and 70-year-olds. Players can also play in the combined age events which cater for doubles partners with combined ages from 60 to over 140. Entry fees are only $20 for singles and $15 for double’s events.

The tournament is very popular and aDracts up to 200 players of all standards plus their families and entourage. Players and supporters come from all over Australia to visit our beau(ful surrounds and to play in the tournament.

There is also the added aDrac(on of the club’s canteen. Our members and their friends serve up a variety of homemade hot and cold food including our world-famous soups.

Narooma Ladies Golf results July 25th and 27th On Monday 25th July a very small number of entrants par(cipated in a medley stableford event.

Only one division on the day with Jenny Walker the overall winner with a score of 36 off handicap of 26.

Runner up was Sylvia Donohoe who posted a score of 34 off handicap of 4. Balls to 28 OCB Wednesday 27th July we hosted a charity day in support Above: The winning team from L&T Glass. of The Family Place in Moruya. We had a great turnout and the weather was excep(onal. Through player fees, dona(ons and 100 club raffle over $1400.00 was raised.

The Family Place does excep(onal work for families impacted by social disadvantage, domes(c violence and homelessness in the Eurobodalla.

The winners on the golf course were a team from L&T Glass with a neD score of 54. Well done and thanks to everyone who par(cipated in the day.

Jaylah Hancock Cameron takes Gold in Ireland Jaylah Hancock - Cameron had another busy weekend aDending the Irish Life Health Na(onal Combined Events Championships and AAI Games that took place in Tullamore stadium, west of Dublin over Saturday 23rd July and Sunday 24th July.

Jaylah added to her win the week before with another First in the 1500m.

Jaylah Hancock-Cameron made her mark the week before at the England Athle(cs U20 and U23 Championships incorpora(ng World Junior Trials, Bedford on Day One. Over the years, this championship has played host to various na(onal teams on tour, and this (me it was the Australians who took advantage of that invite.

Route Changes for Lazer Rally of the Bay With less than three weeks before the Lazer Rally of the Bay, organisers have had to make several changes to the route.

“It’s not ideal to be making changes, but some(mes the weather can affect the condi(on of a road, so it makes sense to change it”, said Road Director, John Mick Harding in the Subaru WRX in wet condi ons at the opening round of the NSW Rally McCredie.

“Runnyford Road has been impacted the most and Eurobodalla Shire Council made the decision that it was not suitable for our use. There are parts of the road that are fantas(c, but then there are sec(ons that are so wet, it’s impossible to use it for a rally. The Council are also doing road works in several sec(ons and it’s just unsuitable for us to use.”

“We’ve extended the Buckenbowra stage by 6km. We’ve also changed the Clyde Long stage to avoid an area where there has been significant (mber harves(ng opera(ons”.

“The changes mean the event is now 134km for the State teams and 124km for the Clubman compe(tors. We purposefully made the original route longer because we an(cipated some weather events may play a part in the final route”, McCredie concluded.

With a full entry of 70 cars, there has been addi(onal teams who wanted to enter. The revised route can now accommodate those extras and Event Manager, Nigel Bland is excited about the opportunity to allow more cars to enter the event.

“It’s fantas(c to have a full field two weeks before entries close”, said Bland. “Plus, it’s great to be able to give a few more teams the opportunity to experience everything the Rally and the Eurobodalla Shire has to offer.”.

The Lazer Rally of the Bay is set to take place on Saturday the 13th of August in the forests surrounding Batemans Bay on the NSW south coast. The rally cars will be flagged away from Corrigan’s Beach Reserve in Batehaven. Lazer High Performance Ligh(ng is the naming rights partner.

The 2022 Lazer Rally of the Bay is a round of the NSW Rally Championship and East Coast Classic Rally Series (ECCRS), and also incorporates the NSW Clubman and NSW Hyundai Series. beagle weekly : Vol 270 July 29th 2022

Tackle World Moruya fishing report July 29th 2022 Moruya River.

It looks like we are going to have a rela(vely clear, all be it cool weekend, this weekend.

With no forecast rain at this stage, there should be something fishy to chase. The winds will be up a liDle coming in from the north, so south facing areas will offer more protec(on for those looking to get out for a fish this weekend.

The river is s(ll a bit on the quiet side, with the odd smaller tailor and salmon in lower sec(ons of the river.

The flathead, bream and Trevally seem to be making anglers work for their catches at the moment. Further upstream under the town bridge, the weed beds are not a bad place to look for a few estuary perch, par(cularly aZer dark.

The holes in front of the hospital, can produce a few nice fish this (me of year, as they hide in the deeper water. Chance of a whi(ng, bream, flathead or trevally are on the cards.

Tuross River.

Tuross is much the same as Moruya this week, with cooler water temps making fishing a liDle on the quiet side. There will be good protected areas to fish in Tuross this weekend, as it offers good all weather op(ons to get out of the wind. There are s(ll a few nice flathead being caught this week, as well as the chance of a mulloway either around the boat sheds, or further up stream around the snake flat areas. Live baits of mullet or soZ plas(cs can tempt these fish into bi(ng.

Rock and Beach.

Salmon con(nue on most beaches to be the main stay of the fishing ac(vity this week, with some good sized salmon s(ll being caught. Bream in the mixed zones at the ends of beaches into the rocky headlands are s(ll an op(on as well. Live worms, nippers or a nice bit of mullet fillets will work a treat. While the salmon are s(ll readily hiQng metal lures around the 40gm size or a whole pilchard.

There con(nue to be reasonable catches of drummer from the stones this week as well.

Swell condi(ons look to be ok for a session on the stones, with the winds dicta(ng which ledges will be more comfortable to fish from.

Offshore.

Tuna con(nue to be the buzz this week, as the run of yellowfin con(nues out wider.

Snapper also are s(ll coming over the sides of most boats this week, while flathead are s(ll there but in slightly reduced numbers with the cooler waters.

Material Facts No, we are not about to talk about our company uniforms, though many years ago when we were part of the Century 21 network, our gold jackets did generate some comments J “Material Facts” are a very important part of real estate. Sales agents are required to disclose all material facts to prospective purchasers. However, what makes the issue so difficult for agents; is that what is an important consideration for one person may be completely irrelevant to someone else.

The agent is also oZen very reliant on the vendor to disclose “material facts” and for the same reason as above, the vendor may not consider some issues to be relevant to disclose.

The issue has been tested in court (Hinton Vs Commissioner of Fair Trading [2007] NSWADTAP 17) which involved the sale of a property that had been the scene of a triple murder. Not surprisingly the Administra(ve Decision Tribunal held that the buyer should have been made aware of the fact, but they were not. The case provided some direc(on to agents to assist in determining whether something is a material fact: 

Whether the fact is able to be independently ascertained



Whether the fact is likely to impact on price



The reaction of other buyers to the fact



Whether the fact results in the property being in a rare or unusual category or position.

With all this in mind, we were fascinated this week to see that in Western Australia, the purchaser of a unit has been able to cancel a contract (worth nearly $400,000) after not being informed of issues with a neighbouring owner. The seller failed to disclose historical problems with a neighbour living upstairs in the strata complex. The buyer discovered the issue herself after being informed of abuse directed at tradespeople undertaking renovations before she moved in. Further inquiries at that point revealed prior reports of belligerent behaviour on the part of the neighbour. The buyer is now seeking compensation exceeding $500,000. It appears in this instance that the seller withheld the information from the sales agent, however, if you are selling a property, it is important that you advise your agent of any information that you know has the potential to seriously affect your purchaser’s enjoyment of the property.

For those purchasing a strata property, it is important that you obtain a strata inspection report which is a “similar” report to a building and pest inspection. It could highlight any legal or disruptive issues that may be documented at Annual General Meetings or other general correspondence. Of course, you can also try to talk to other owners to get the low down on any problems that may be simmering under the surface. Not everyone does strata inspection reports but that is another service we also specialise in.
