editorial Welcome to this week’s editorial, The Federal, State and Local poliAcians say “We’re all in this together” …. But are we?

28 December 7th, Vol 48 April 111 July 27th 12this2018 2019 This weekend Get2017 Ready Weekend where we all sit around and discuss our Bushfire Plans and go through the check lists of House and Garden PreparaAon as well as preparing our EvacuaAon Kits. Before last summer’s fires the message behind these annual reminders weren’t taken so seriously. People didn’t prepare because it sound too much like something that happened to ‘other people’. But then it happened to us.

We have now gone through months of inquiries into the bushfires and the Blind Freddy revelaAon is that we were not prepared for the extent of the fires nor the catastrophe. As we now move towards the next bushfire season most of us are of the opinion that the resources we so sadly lacked last year by way of planes, trucks and crews have not been improved. The RFS and Government tell us that they have spent money on providing volunteers with new uniforms, more PPE and have even upgraded communicaAons however at the fire front we can expect to liHle change as there are few new appliances and the new volunteers we now have are replacing the many who reAred aIer last year’s Hell on Earth.

The bare bones of it is that we will be leI to cope, as we did last year, with whatever is thrown at us as there are no guarantees of a fire crew being able to aHend your burning house.

Added to that there are no guarantees of roads being open, electricity being available, mobile phone, the internet, town water and then food, petrol and supplies in the days and weeks that follow. Our evacuaAon centres have seen zero improvements to the totally inadequate faciliAes Council provides that fail the basic requirements for such centres.

Should there be a repeat we will certainly stand as one as we did last Ame and say “We’re all in this together” because we will be unable to rely on anyone and anything other than ourselves.

So this Get Ready Weekend be sure to factor in the realiAes of what happened last year and assess what you REALLY will do for food, water and provisions, whether you will Stay and Defend or Go and if you chose to go how you will prepare your car, your home and your family to flee while reducing, as best you can, the possible traumas that will rise from the loss of your home, the paperwork, the rebuilding, the insurances, the financing and the transiAon required to return to Square One. Hopefully whilst we are all Ge ng Ready this weekend the Council, the State and the Federal Government are also geKng ready to step up and have in place the 76 recommendaAons that have been idenAfied that need THEIR immediate aHenAon. Only THEN will we “all be in this together”.

River Of Art – Splashing Colour And Renewal Vol 16 September 15th 2017 28 December 7th, 2017 celebraAon of the South Coast’s Vol 48 April 27th 2018 111of July 12th 2019 River Art, the annual

creaAve arts, kicks off on Friday to splash Spring colour and renewal from Durras to Bermagui.

Challenged but not defeated by COVID-19, this year’s fesAval which runs from Friday 18 to Sunday 27 September, sAll features many of the favourite highlights.

“Kicking off the fesAval on Friday aIernoon will be the announcement of this year’s River of Art Prize,” explained Di Jay, fesAval co-chair.

“While we have to abide by the COVID restricAons, we’re sAll able to have a small ceremony to announce the winner of our art prize which always aHracts a fantasAc range of entries. This year is no different,” she added.

The fesAval’s official opening will be held at the Basil Seller ExhibiAon Centre in Moruya later in the day but again because of COVID restricAons, those able to aHend are by invitaAon only.

“Even though we’ve had to keep the number to just 20 for the opening, what’s fantasAc is that we’re been able to hold the fesAval,” said Vicki Lascelles, also co-chair.

“If ever there was a Ame for a fesAval of arts, this is it. Our region has been so badly affected this year by the devastaAng fires, then floods and now a pandemic. We all need this celebraAon. That’s why our theme this year is resilience and renewal.”

Highlights of this year’s fesAval include a brand new event, REVIVE. Six murals, depicAng the fesAval’s theme will be painted over the course of the fesAval in Bateman’s Bay, Moruya, Narooma and Tilba Tilba.

“People will be able to watch the murals emerge from the blank walls and arAsts’ paintbrushes,” Di said.

“And we’ll be filming them so you can follow their progress on our website.”

A longstanding favourite of the fesAval, Open Studios, will be a top aHracAon, with a total of 18 galleries and studios from Batehaven to Bermagui open to visitors.

Art on Parade is another very popular feature with shops providing the venues to show off the art from our region. Twenty shops up and down the coast are involved in this year’s event offering another way to discover Eurobodalla’s creaAve side.

A number of art exhibiAons featuring fabrics and ceramics through to photographs will also be open over the fesAval.

“To help people create their own fesAval art trail, our website has been redesigned making it easy to spot favourites among the Open Studios, exhibiAons and Art on Parade and add them to the “must” list,” Vicki said.

Moruya High bakes off for Vol 16 September 15th 2017 28 December 7th, 2017 Youngcare Vol 48 111April July 27th 12th 2018 2019 Take 32 packets of cake mix, almost 2kg margarine, 3kg buHer, over 5kg icing sugar, a mulAtude of food colours, lengths of licorice rope, many cups of smarAes and other assorted sweets, 5 hours and 32 Moruya High students.

The result? 18 absolutely fantasAc cakes.

The Moruya High students were parAcipaAng in the #YOURCAKE Challenge which is a community baking and fundraising challenge for Youngcare.

In celebraAon of Youngcare’s 15th Birthday and The Australian Women’s Weekly Children’s Birthday Cake Book’s 40th Anniversary the school took up the challenge to bake one of the iconic cakes to raise much needed funds for young people with high care needs. Instead of just one they baked 18 !!

Eurobodalla Repair Café – lets see if we can repair your goods A group of dedicated local volunteers come together every Friday to repair items that are cherished by members of the community. Tools, materials and specialist help are all available at the Repair Cafe.

SHASA President Kathryn Maxwell said “we encourage people to bring along their broken items and spend Ame with the repairers to watch and learn how the repairs are made. Too many things get thrown away that don't need to be.”

The Repair Cafe provides a friendly and welcoming environment. We encourage people to stay and chat over a cuppa and yummy cakes and biscuits.

“In the first 3 weeks of operaAon the team have repaired small electrical items (we have a qualified test and tager), lamps, vacuum cleaners, string instruments, sewing machines, whipper snipper, clothing repairs including patches, buHon replacement and mending holes and minor ceramic breakages including a fridge magnet. From next Friday the Repair Cafe will also undertake basic bicycle repairs. We ask those whose goods have been repaired to make a donaAon to help cove costs of materials "said Kathryn Maxwell.

Eurobodalla Council’s community directory was launched last year and now lists almost 900 services, groups and organisaAons from across the shire.

Users can explore the directory to find things like local sporAng clubs, special interest groups, bushfire recovery services, transport providers, employment services, health and wellbeing contacts, educaAon and training providers, child or aged care services, volunteer groups, and more. Categories can be searched for shire-wide results or by town or village. “You might have recently moved here, or you’re looking to join a local service organisaAon, or perhaps your circumstances have changed and you need to find care for a parent or child – the community directory is the perfect place to start,” she said.

“If you’re looking for ways to get around town you’ll find different transport opAons, while the volunteering category lists groups that accept volunteers.

“The Community Directory is mobile friendly, easy to use and results pop up as a list or on a map.”

Council staff have been proacAve in adding organisaAons to the directory, and they’re now undertaking an annual review to ensure all lisAngs are correct and up-to-date.

“We’d love for local not-for-profit services, groups and organisaAons to jump onto the directory and check their lisAng is there and if so, that it’s up-to-date,” Ms Bush said.

“There’s an easy-to-use form on the directory to update or add entries for those who meet the terms and condiAons.”

Eurobodalla Residents Plan Protest Vol 16 September 15th 2017 Against Morrison’s 28 December 7th, 2017 Vol 48 111April July 27th 12th 2018 2019 Gas Plans ON FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 25TH, workers, school students and concerned locals in the Eurobodalla will rally as part of a day of acAon demanding PM Morrison rule out giving billions of Covid-19 recovery funds to gas.

The September 25th: #FundOurFutureNotGas day of ac8on is quickly becoming the most widespread day of acAon against gas in Australia’s history, with hundreds of acAons. The day is being organised by the School Strike 4 Climate network, as well as First NaAons communiAes, unions, and everyday Australians in response to leaked plans revealing that PM Morrison is considering giving billions of Covid-19 recovery funds to gas.

Geoff Berry, who is helping to organise the event, said: “Concerned ciAzens here in the Eurobodalla want ScoH Morrison to invest Covid-19 recovery funds into renewable energy, creaAng thousands of jobs that would also help tackle climate change. Giving billions of taxpayer dollars to the polluAng gas industry is clearly an irresponsible use of public funds.

"The leaked gas plans come from the NaAonal Covid-19 CoordinaAon Commission, a commission that is stacked with gas execuAves. Of course they’re trying to convince ScoH Morrison to give billions of taxpayer dollars to their own industry. It’s appalling; especially as we on the south coast conAnue to try and deal with the devastaAng blow delivered to our forests last summer.

"The key issue causing all this concern is, of course, anthropogenic climate change and the clear and present danger it presents for locals, people all over the world, and for our precious natural environment.”

community Campbell Page Helping Hands program has joined forces with Be Centre and South CoastPlay Therapy to host the FesAval of Play, aimed at supporAng local children and families impacted by the recent bushfires Vol 16 September 15th 2017 28 December 7th, 2017 and COVID-19.

Locals in Nelligen, Mogo and Vol 48 April 111 July 27th 12th 2018 2019 Narooma are invited to this fun filled, 3-day event that will see children and adults engage in a series of creaAve play and sensory art workshops.

Play therapy is a powerful way for children and adults to process their thoughts, feelings and reacAons to challenging events.

This fesAval provides an opportunity for locals to come together in a relaxed environment, have some fun and heal through sessions facilitated byplay therapy experts.

Day one of the FesAval of Play kicks off on Tuesday 29 September at the Nelligen Mechanics InsAtute Hall. Day two will take the event to Boomerang MeeAng Place in Mogo on Wednesday 30 September and the event will finish up on Thursday 1 October at Narooma Public school.

BlazeAid volunteers work in a disaster-affected area for many months, not only helping individuals and families, but also helping rebuild the local communiAes - and we're looking for more Grey Nomads and InternaAonal Rock Stars to help us in Cobargo! All are welcome, no parAcular experience necessary, just a good aKtude and willingness to learn!

Vol 16 September 15th 2017 “Pete started work in February and within a 28 December 7th, experience 2017 Vol 48 111April July 27th 12th 2018 2019 month he started his new job,” said Zoe Buckley, Employment Consultant at WorkAbility.

“Work experience is a great pathway to a paid job,” says Zoe. “Pete’s role is an important part of our business,” said Angus Murphy, manager of Moruya Cycles, “He makes sure we keep on top of our online orders and ship on Ame.” Zoe approached Moruya cycles for a posiAon for Pete, given Pete’s enthusiasm for Ankering on his trike she thought this would be a great fit. Angus, Zoe and Pete decided that a short work experience would be helpful in working out what Pete’s duAes would look like and how we could best tailor the posiAon for him.

Pete’s daily duAes are to pack online orders and take to post office in the basket of his trike. Pete also does pricing of items and placing on display. Pete also assists with minor repair work with the bike mechanic, Joel, in the workshop.

“This is a great place to work, we have all kinds of bikes and accessories. I love being part of the team,” said Peter.

EOIs sought for lease of Batemans Bay Community Vol 16 September 15th 2017 28 December 7th, 2017 Vol 48 111April July 27th 12th 2018 2019 Centre Eurobodalla Council is seeking expressions of interest from organisaAons interested in leasing the Batemans Bay Community Centre for community purposes.

The EOI process comes aIer the Council earlier this year received unsolicited requests from organisaAons wanAng to lease the centre.

Only leases for community purposes will be considered. EOIs must include a detailed synopsis of expected community beneďŹ ts and how the proposed use generates local economic acAvity.

Council has been in contact with exisAng users of the centre to idenAfy alternaAve venues over the past few months. Should a lease be awarded this process will conAnue.

Following the conclusion of the EOI period, EOIs meeAng the assessment criteria will be presented to a Council MeeAng, where a decision will be made whether to proceed with the leasing of the centre.

Expressions of interest open Friday 18 September and close on Thursday 8 October, 4pm.

To Never Never And Beyond Dalmeny/Narooma Bushwalkers put on 3 walks last week catering for all the needs of our walkers.

The First Vol 16 September 15thwalk 2017led by Jan Thomas had 14 28 December 7th, 2017 Vol 48 April 27th 2018 111 July 12th 2019 walkers aHending and roamed into and around Punkally Creek, Shingle Hut Road, up the Never Never Track, and then down through Dromedary Creek and back to the cars. Plenty of water was flowing down the Creeks, amongst the Cabbage Tree Palms, Sassafras trees and ferns. The 5 klm walk finished at the juncAon of the Dromedary and Punkally Creeks. Davey thanked Jan for puKng on the walk in a special locaAon. Meanwhile, Maggie Finch led 5 walkers from Surf Beach towards the Glasshouse Rocks and returned via the bush near the Industrial area to have lunch at the Surf Beach. A lovely 8klm walk in a deligh_ul area.

Lastly Amanda and Jan led another walk in the Tarourga Creek area along the Potato Point Road. Eight walkers aHended and commenced heading into the creek area which abounds with many large granite boulders. Quite a few wildflowers were out in bloom in the burnt ground. One huge rock aptly nick named "mini Uluru" was used for lunch unAl the mozzies moved the walkers on.

A 6 klm walk was enjoyed by everybody with Maggie thanking Amanda and Jan .

Telehealth expansion welcomed by rural health peak body Vol 16 September 15th 2017 The NaAonal Rural 28 December 7th,Health 2017 Alliance, the peak body for Vol 48 111April July 27th 12th 2018 2019 rural health in Australia, welcomed the Australian Government’s expansion of Medicare rebates for telehealth consultaAons unAl 31 March 2021.

The Medicare rebates, which were brought in to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, were due to expire on 30 September.

“Telehealth has been an important lifeline for people in rural, regional and remote Australia during the pandemic,” said NaAonal Rural Health Alliance CEO Dr Gabrielle O’Kane.

“It can be difficult enough to access health care in some areas at the best of Ames, but especially once you add in the difficulAes caused by the pandemic including border restricAons.

“Telehealth is vital to ensuring rural people can keep up their regular health checks during COVID-19 and ensure conAnuity of care.”

The Alliance said that the Government should also be addressing some ongoing issues with telehealth if it was here to stay.

“ConnecAvity remains a big issue in rural Australia, and we need to be improving internet infrastructure in the bush otherwise telehealth is difficult or impossible for paAents and health pracAAoners to use,” said Dr O’Kane.

“We also need safeguards to ensure that telehealth is being delivered by local pracAAoners, and not onlineonly ou_its based in the major ciAes who offer no face-to-face services.”

community New coins celebrate Indigenous astronomy, the stars, and the dark spaces between them By Duane W. Hamacher Associate Professor, University of Melbourne Two coins have been released by the @royalaustmint to celebrate Vol 16new September 15th 2017 28 December 7th, 2017 Vol 48 April 27th 2018 111 July 12th 2019 the astronomical knowledge and tradiAons of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. They feature artworks from Wiradjuri (NSW) and Yamaji (WA) arAsts represenAng two of the most famous features in Aboriginal astronomy: the great Emu in the Sky and the Seven Sisters.

Both celesAal features are found in the astronomical tradiAons of many Aboriginal cultures across Australia. They are seen in similar ways and have similar meanings between cultures on opposite sides of the conAnent and are observed to note the changing seasons and the behaviours of plants and animals and inform Law. The emu is a silhoueHe of the dark spaces stretching from the Southern Cross to SagiHarius in the backdrop of the Milky Way. The galaxy itself is a river called Gular (or Gilaa), which is also the Wiradjuri name of the Lachlan River.

The Yamaji people of the Murchison region in Western Australia refer to the Pleiades star cluster as Nyarluwarri in the Wajarri language, represenAng seven sisters. When Nyarluwarri sits low on the horizon at sunset in April, the people know that emu eggs are ready for harvesAng. The story of the Seven Sisters tells of them fleeing to the sky to escape the advances of a man who wants to take one of the sisters as his wife. The man chases the sisters as they move from east to west each night, which appear to the northeast at dusk in November and set by April.

Just look at the numbers. I have them here. Florida, big numbers, and I knew it. People told me, they said Mr President, you’re gonna win big here, and there they are: big numbers. And Sleepy Joe, he wouldn’t know, he hasn’t woken up yet.

And look at this – Georgia, Kentucky, really big numbers. Probably the biggest in history.

You know what they’re saying, Deep State and whoever? They’re saying it’s not fair, we gotta wait till the US mail finally gets around to delivering the phoney votes that they’ve put together somewhere – do you believe that? – they got together, printed the voting forms or whatever, voted for Sleepy Joe, mailed them and then went along today for another go. And they want us to count all of them! Every single phoney vote!

You know what I told them? No way, I said. One vote, one value, one day. And that’s today, November 3. It’s in the Constitution – Tuesday, right? Tuesday November 3, right there in the American Constitution signed by Jefferson and you know, Adams, and those founding fathers, Washington himself, Lincoln, all of them…

That’s what the Deep State doesn’t like; that’s why they did it, got all those votes mailed in and then went along today and tried to vote again. And that’s what’s behind all this rioting and looting today. And when I sent in the soldiers to bring some law and order you saw what happened. They didn’t like it; they didn’t listen when I told them, “I’m the law and order president.”

Well, now they know, right? Now they know.

And California, they think we should wait for days or months till all their phoney mail-ins arrive. They think we should wait around all night, just to find out what their votes add up to.

Well, too late California, they don’t add up to nothin’ because the Electoral College – remember them? – right, the Electoral College has decided already, I’ve got the figures right here – 308 or more, that’s a minimum, probably much more, people tell me the biggest margin in history. We got 308 minimum, Sleepy Joe, 53, something like that; that’s what they said.

They also told me, Mr President, they said, the terrorists are going to takes to the streets, they don’t like losing, even if it’s the biggest margin in history, they’ll take to the streets and it’ll be carnage. They said, “Mr President you gotta do something.”

And they’re right. I said, I’ve got your back. I’m the law and order president and if necessary I’ll have the defence forces of the United States doing what they do best – defend America. That’s what they do; and that’s in the Constitution too. That’s what I took my sacred oath to do. And I’ll do it.

You just watch me – I’ll stop the carnage – defend America, our America – doesn’t matter what they say, it’s right there in the Constitution. And we’re going to do what we always said we’ll do. We’ll make America great again, even if I have to stay here in the White House for the next ten years. I’ll get the job done…or maybe 20 years…and just remember, forest management…it’s gonna get cooler!

After dainty refreshments had been partaken of by the large number present the remaining hour was occupied by an “observation tray” conducted by the hostess. Mesdames L. Jenner and Preddy and Miss Jermyn tied in giving the number of articles on the tray, and on drawing, Mrs Jenner was the lucky winner of a pretty trinket box.

SCENT PRODUCTION.– Mr. Coleman, one of the pioneers of the eucalyptus oil industry, has been experimenting in the production of scent from leaves of plants and trees in our forests. He has discovered one scent-producing leaf, a sample of which has been sent to the Dept. for report.

IMPROVEMENT OF SWEET SORGHUMS. The sorghum flower is particularly adapted to wind pollination, and crossing between types grown close together and maturing at practically the same time is sure to happen.

Crossing readily takes place with broom millet, but owing to the very pithy nature of that plant the seed from such crosses is worthless. It is very essential, therefore, that farmers should obtain seed as true to type as possible; and as at the present time crops of sorghum with a distinct lack of uniformity are quite common, and it is one of the aims of the Department of Agriculture to make available to farmers true-to-type seed of all kinds, the improvement of sweet sorghums has become one of the tasks which the Department has specifically set itself.

PICNIC.– Wednesday, 29th inst., has been set apart for the holding of a picnic in aid of the C.E. Snowball Bazaar. The rendezvous will be under the oaks near the Kiora bridge, the scene of many an enjoyable picnic.

Mrs. S. Louttit, Hon. Secretary of the Kiora Stall, is the promoter of the promised function.

A lonely dirt road fingers the farmhouse. Its impossible colour, stark against the aHempted green of the surrounding pastures and its structure challenging, hopefully resolute against the will of the weather. The odd abandoned car or old truck, rusAng now, slowly succumbing and surrendering to the summer heat, someAmes winter rains, but the ever dependent winds exerAng punishment over years, more likely decades.

Granite boulders and outcrops doHed the cleared land in a meandering path like random points on a Ameline before disappearing into the thick uncleared, unknown and daunAng bush beyond the fence lines.

The bush spooked him and he stood frozen as he contemplated entering it but it was Impossible to define it in the early morning fog. It started in so many places, someAmes scaHered and other parts dense undergrowth, carelessly woven over the forest floor to be pierced by massive gums surging through in their might, strong and definite against a deeper green and finally the darkness of a world beyond comprehension but bursAng with imaginaAon and mystery. It’s sheer density denying trespass and its age not measured in years, decades or even millenniums but mulAples of all.

The wind picked up and he shivered.

He sucked in a breath of early morning dew on damp sheep and closed his eyes to take in a hint of the eucalyptus from beyond. A kookaburra laughed at his hesitancy and the bleat of the sheep at his capture to the present.

For the longest moment he shook his head and thought of what was, sighed at the what is and contemplated the what now.

He was in his early twenAes, thin, even scrawny but aestheAc with the most generous and sensuous lips. His fragility leaned into the wind but he turned as the dusty white ute pulled up.

The farmer’s bulk was encased in a loose, long drizabone and the moleskins were worn and held up with a plaited leather belt with pocket tool aHached. Over worked riding boots protected his feet. His face was unshaved and weather beaten and a half smile under the Akubra hat let out a breath of early morning fog. His appearance reminded him of a of soldier ready for baHle. His mind now jumped again, and this Ame, to who was here before and to who is here now, as the farmer approached.

They greeted each other.

We are seeing prices for places that would have been comparable to what we had go on the market for 100-200 thousand over what we used to have. This is ripping hope from our hearts. Will we even be able to afford geKng our lives back to what we had?

LeHer to the Beagle Editor I happen to be sAll a resident in this area of the NSW South Coast. I say “sAll” because I had a lucky escape from the last bush fires that raged throughout our beauAfully forested areas. Will everyone else be so lucky again when the next fires happen? Historical data on Wikipedia shows that fires burnt since 1851. <<“Bushfires in Australia” are a widespread and regular occurrence that have contributed significantly to shaping the nature of the conAnent over millions of years. Eastern Australia is one of the most fire-prone regions of the world, and its predominant eucalyptus forests have evolved to thrive on the phenomenon of bushfire.[1] However the fires can cause significant property damage and loss of both human and animal life.

Bushfires have killed approximately 800 people in Australia since 1851,[2] and billions of animals.”>> The complete content is a compulsory reading for everyone concerned but I would like to point out what the secAon Atled “Official inquiries” says. Please read.

My quesAon is: what are the differences between the previously done and the last one just released? Where are the serious commitments in terms of financial and logisAc capabiliAes of both NSW and Federal Government that are needed to prevent or at least reduce the inevitable and possibly catastrophic damages and deaths which repeatedly afflict our community?

We don’t need to be scienAsts to see how the laws governing residenAal and farm buildings approvals are not adequate. Everybody seems to blame the “Greenies” for that problem, but is that really fair to be? Aren’t we a fair dinkum democracy where the majoriAes should always count?

Personally I would start making sure that every building is well cleared from large trees and scrub, that human and animal established building locaAons must offer at least 2 safe escape routes if ever menaced by a large fire. All fire breaks should have a width at least double the maximum height of the trees along their boundary lines and be clear of any undergrowth and tall grass. Major roads and Highways should be cleared of trees, undergrowth and tall grass at least 50m on both sides of them.

Forests, whether be State or NaAonal, should be properly maintained with the removal of dead trees, branches and undergrowth, re-planAng of trees where needed, uAlizaAon of excess wood in mills for the making of chipboards for the building industry.

Last but not least: Isn’t it Ame that we uAlized Amely and effecAvely our well equipped and trained ADF for peaceful jobs on their mother land when not chasing phantom enemies in other parts of the world? It would be nice to know that our experts and poliAcians have studied the logisAcal difficulAes and compared the costs of prevenAng destrucAon instead of waiAng for them to happen.

Worm farms are ideal if you live in an apartment with a balcony or small courtyard, because they are very compact and don't smell.

Worms will eat fruit and vegetable scraps, tea bags (if they do not contain plasAc), cardboard (shredded and soaked) Paper, bread crusts, pulp from juicers, crushed eggshells, leaves.

Vol 16 September 15th 2017 28 December 7th, 2017 Tenggara - Edisi Indonesia brings works from Zico Albaiquni, Eko Nugroho and Leyla Stevens to regional Vol 48 2018 111April July 27th 12th 2019

Nugroho, whose is regarded as one of the most important contemporary Indonesian arAsts working today, presents a major installaAon that has only been exhibited previously in Hong Kong and Sydney.

Working across drawing, painAng, sculpture, animaAon and embroidery, this acclaimed Indonesian arAst draws inspiraAon from Javanese tradiAons, such as wayang theatre and baAk, as well as street art, science ficAon, comic books and other forms of popular culture.

New painAngs by Zico Albaiquni will be presented in the exhibiAon, Albaiquni’s unusual and intriguing colour paleHe developed from the tonal formulas of this early tradiAon. He also references the links between art, adverAsing, and the commodificaAon of landscape to invesAgate contemporary environmental issues in Indonesia.

Leyla Stevens is an Australian-Balinese arAst and researcher who works predominantly with moving image.

Her video work in the exhibiAon references her Balinese heritage and combines performaAve and documentary modes of filmmaking to consider the impact of the silenced history of Indonesia’s 1965-66 anA-communist killings, in which a reported 80,000 people died in Bali alone.

Curated by BVRG director Iain Dawson, Gangguan Tenggara - Edisi Indonesia (South East disturbance in Bahasa Indonesia) is the fourth and final iteraAon of the South/East Interference series of award-winning exhibiAons presented exclusively at BVRG. “I’m so proud to present this exhibiAon to the community. Working with these important internaAonal arAsts highlights the Bega Valley’s connecAon to the South East Asian region. The Bega brand is well known throughout Indonesia, courtesy of our namesake dairy products, I’m excited to build on that awareness and make contemporary art a tool with which we can increase that engagement and conversaAons.”

The exhibiAon opens to the public Friday 18 September 10am.

The BVRG is open Mon - Fri 10am - 4pm and entry is free.

Hidden | Stephanie McClory at the Bas Stephanie McClory is a regional-based painter and 2018 winner of the Eurobodalla Art15th Prize in the Basil Sellers Art Prize.

Vol 16 September 2017 28 December 7th, 2017 Vol 48 April 27th 2018 111 July 12th 2019 Stephanie celebrates her first solo exhibiAon in Hidden, an extension of her award-winning work Some days are rough.

Stephanie's pracAce incorporates elements of hyper-realism and chiaroscuro techniques to explore vulnerability and though_ul moments of contemplaAon. Anchored in monochromaAc surroundings, subjects are absorbed in their own inAmacy, achieved through a layered manifestaAon of light Stephanie McClory, 'Whisper' (detail), with a scale and quality alluding to renaissance or noir cinema.

The Basil Sellers Art Prize 2020 View the works of selected finalists in the upcoming Basil Sellers Art Prize 2020 ExhibiAon at the Bas. This presAgious biennial compeAAon draws the cream of local arAsts and those across NSW and the ACT with a $25,000 prize pool.

The major prize of $20,000, generously supported by Mr Basil Sellers AM, will be awarded to the overall winner, while local arAsts will by in the running for the Eurobodalla ArAst Prize of $5,000. ExhibiAon viewers can also nominate their favourite artwork for the $500 People's Choice Award.

The winners will be announced in a special online broadcast prior to the exhibiAon opening. Details for viewing the award ceremony will soon be made available on the Bas website, Facebook and Instagram pages.

Your UP TO DATE Fishing report courtesy of Tackle World Moruya Moruya River. 15th 2017 Vol 16 September 28 December 7th, 2017 Vol 48 April 27th 2018 111 July 12th 2019 Glimpses of improvement this week in the Moruya system. There have been good numbers of estuary perch down around the Preddy’s wharf aIer dark this last week with the chance of a flathead or two also thrown in. Try the new Daiwa Bait Junkie soI plasAcs in the 2.5” grub or minnow for a good chance at finding an EP or two.

Around the airport flats, there have again been a few nice flathead caught. Live nippers for those who prefer a more relaxed staAonary style of fishing are working well, as are plasAcs and hard body lures for the more acAve angler.

Further upstream, the flats around the bridge are worth a look both with live nippers and arAficial lures. A high Ade aIer dark off the bridge can produce good numbers of estuary perch, bream, whiAng and flathead.

Even further up, the holes on front of the hospital should also be starAng to hold Estuary perch and bream again.

Tuross River.

Good numbers of estuary perch have been reported by several of the local kids, who have been having a great Ame catching them on the new Daiwa Bait Junkie soI plasAcs. They have been catching them in the middle of the day aIer a morning spent siKng exams. So I would be starAng here if you are looking for a bit of fun. The flats around potato point have seen an increase in flathead acAvity as the water temps start to nudge up. Expect to see a few bream and whiAng as the temps start to rise. RealisAcally though, we are sAll a few weeks off them really starAng to fire.

Rock and beach.

There have been good reports of salmon on the beaches this week, as well as a few bream and whiAng for those willing to spend the Ame finding live worms or pipis. A light running sinker rig fished in close will find a few of these fish. Long casts aren’t required if you can find a nice guHer at your feet. The breakwall at Moruya has had patchy reports this week, with some anglers finding fish, while others have struggled.

Offshore.

Good numbers of both flathead and snapper have been reported this week, with most of the fish coming out of 30-40m of water. There has been a definite bias towards flathead being the main species caught, with only a few snapper mixed in with the majority of catches.

As we get closer to the end of the year, new gear is starAng is filter into the shop. Come in and check out the new season gear. Most prominent has been the new range of Daiwa Bait Junkie soI plasAcs. New rods from Shimano are also starAng to drop in store. So if you are interested in the new season stock, drop in and pay us a visit.
