What an amazing year 2020 has been par(cularly for our local area that was ravaged by the bush fires and then replaced (in the media) by Covid 19. Well, now that 2020 is history, what can we expect for 2021 par(cularly in respect to the real estate sector?

Regardless of the issues in 2020 the real estate sector generally performed quite well, be@er than most ini(ally expected. Locally, we saw a very strong finish to the year with some proper(es barely needing to be adver(sed. We believe this strength was driven by Sydney, Canberra and other CBD buyers looking to purchase holiday homes given the lack of overseas des(na(ons available to them. Combine that with history breaking low interest rates and the desire for some to relocate out of major populated centres, created a very strong market dynamic.

For 2021, most of the analysts are predic(ng a strong year for real estate. A recent ar(cle by Real Estate Business covered the comments by ME Banks head of home loans Andrew Bartolo, who “believes the next 12 months will see widespread recovery”. A survey that ME Bank conducted in December showed 46% of owner occupiers expect the value of their dwelling to increase during 2021.
