It is worrying to hear in the media that the infec ous disease specialists are now really hedging their bets on when a vaccine for Covid 19 will be readily available. It appears that very few of these specialists agree with many of the world leaders who would have us believe that a vaccine could be available by the end of the year. The reality, according to the specialists, is that it takes much more me to test, then manufacture, then distribute and finally administer a vaccine. Most of them are now saying it is more likely to be 2022 before we see wide scale availability for the general public, and that even assumes that a vaccine is found in the first place. This is indeed a very worrying forecast and hopefully the meframe will be shortened, but even so, what will happen to society in the mean me?

Once again, the specialists are saying that “society will have to live and adapt to a world with Covid19”. Each person and business will have to modify their behaviour and business processes to protect their staff, their clients and the general popula on. We have seen this already in many businesses where the number of people are limited and signing in is required etc. But it now seems that all these measures will likely become the “new normal” for a significant period of me and not just an “interim inconvenience”.

No industry will be immune (excuse the pun) to some level of change and in the real estate sector we (SCPS) have adopted a comprehensive Covid Safe program to keep our staff, clients and the popula on as safe as we can. Some of these ini a ves are: · Each open house now has a “greeter” who will enforce capacity limits, take client details, provide sani zer, disinfectant wipes and masks, and ensure sick persons do not enter/touch property. · Signs on doors instruct clients to knock and wait at door to be allowed entry, staff may lock doors during high "traffic" periods to assist in enforcing physical distancing. · Tenant inspec ons are being conducted via video chat where possible, physical inspec ons are only used where absolutely necessary. During inspec ons staff wear masks and sani se any surfaces touched. · Auc ons are not currently being held. If auc ons are held in the future they will take place outside where physical distancing can be adhered to.
