Welcome to BeaconFest a celebration of age!

I

f you’re reading this before the show, don’t miss out on the fun. Mark your calendars for this year’s BeaconFest Boomer & Senior Fair from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, October 14 at Montrose Pavilion, 1800 Pavilion Dr.

ADMISSION IS FREE! Plus, no other senior expo around has live music, free food and informative seminars. This year, we have an exciting lineup of entertainment from acts like Donny Morales, Robin Freed & The Harps in Motion Ensemble, and Yaz! Seminar speakers will answer questions and help you navigate the confusing world of Medicare.

You must be present to win, so walk around or sit back and wait for your name to be called from the stage. We’ll be calling out multiple winners every 30 minutes.

MEGA PRIZE GIVEAWAY Stick around for “Let’s Make a Squeal,” the game when all unclaimed door prizes will be given to the audience in a madcap rendition of Monty Hall’s “Let’s Make a Deal.” This mega prize giveaway happens at 1:40 p.m.

VENDORS GALORE!

COVID MEASURES AND SAFETY

Representatives from dozens of local and national service providers and agencies will be available to talk with you directly about products and services available to help you age well. We’ll have home improvement folks, medical professionals, representatives from senior living residences, government officials, insurance professionals and more.

Although seniors are the most vaccinated group in Montrose and Delta counties, we’re taking additional measures for your safety. Hand sanitizer will be available at booths and throughout the pavilion, and this year’s event is mask friendly—extras will be available by request. We will follow any and all official COVID safety guidelines that are announced.

FEELING LUCKY?

VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR

Thousands of dollars’ worth of door prizes will be given away in free drawings throughout the day. All you have to do is fill out the door prize

Seven outstanding volunteers were nominated (one is a dynamic volunteer duo), you voted and we listened! Find out who readers voted as

the BEACON’s Montrose-Delta Volunteer of the Year at a special ceremony at 12:50 p.m.

SENIOR’S CHOICE AWARDS I’m always impressed with the variety of exhibitors and how they engage attendees. Please let us know who you think has the best overall booth, which booth has the friendliest people, and which booth has the best free stuff by filling out the Senior’s Choice Awards ballot and dropping it by the BEACON booth.

THANK YOU! BeaconFest is also our way of saying thank you for reading the BEACON. Please thank our vendors and sponsors: Medicare Resource Center, Humana and Volunteers of America. BeaconFest would not be possible without their support. ■
