eaconFest is a celebration of age and all that’s boomer and senior related, and it just happens to be the biggest boomer and senior fair in the area. If you’re reading this before the show, don’t miss out on the fun— mark your calendars for this year’s BeaconFest Boomer and Senior Fair from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday, April 19 at Two Rivers Convention Center in downtown Grand Junction.
Why attend BeaconFest? Admission is free! This year’s BeaconFest features free food, informative seminars and an exciting lineup of entertainment, including the ever-popular Danny Agajanian and his Hallelujah Band and local legends King ‘N’ Trio. Free seminars will be offered on a range of topics, including estate planning, reverse mortgages, Medicare and senior housing options.
Feeling lucky? Thousands of dollars worth of door prizes will be given away in free drawings throughout the day. All you have to do is fill out the official door prize entry form included in this program and drop it in the bucket at the BEACON’s booth. You must be present to win, so walk around or sit back and wait for your chance to win as names are called from the stage. With over 100 prizes to hand out, we’ll be calling out winners every 30 minutes or so. That’s a lot of winning—better odds than the lottery, that’s for sure.

Senior’s Choice Awards I’m always impressed with the wide variety of exhibitors that participate at BeaconFest and the way they market themselves. Some bring just themselves, along with a handful of brochures. Others have booth displays that look like they were made by Disney Imagineers. What’s important is what you think. ENTERTAINMENT SCHEDULE Morgan Crouse
9 a.m., Country singer-songwriter Young singer-songwriter Morgan Crouse grew up in rural western Colorado with a passion for the western way of life—including country music. She has performed locally for seven years and traveled around the U.S., performing in legendary venues like The Bluebird Café and The Row in Nashville. She’s inspired by artists such as Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Stevie Nicks and The Eagles, and aspires to play in the Grand Ole Opry circle one day.
King ‘N’ Trio
11:55 a.m., Folk/Americana Since its inception in December 2001, the King ‘N’ Trio has entertained audiences with their enthusiastic, toe-tapping, singalong music. Band members Chris Unfug, Merritt Kinsey and Terry Toner are members of the Grand Junction Rotary Club and have raised over $200,000 to date for Rotary Foundation, the Avalon Theatre restoration, Mesa County Partners and many other charitable projects. With the help of the Grand Junction Rotary Club, the band has recorded five CDs. Proceeds from CD sales are also part of the band’s fundraising efforts.

Danny Agajanian & The Hallelujah Band
9:55 a.m., Bluegrass/Ragtime Danny Agajanian plays a mix of bluegrass, ragtime and Civil Warera music. Once a warm-up artist for Billy Graham, he has toured with many performers and has played in many venues in Las Vegas, across the U.S. and Canada, including churches, Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, the Golden Nugget, the Grand Ole Opry and more. He has lived in Grand Junction for over 25 years.
Swing City Combo 10:55 a.m., Swing/Jazz
A subgroup of Swing City Express, the beloved big band at the BEACON’s Valentine’s Dance, Swing City Combo is led by bassist Clark Gault and includes pianist Rob Wallace and drummer Pat Olsen. Clark spent three years with the famed Norad Band and 20 years as a trombonist for the San Diego Light Orchestra. He is retired from writing national commercial music and currently writes arrangements for the Grand Junction Symphony and his own musical projects. Rob leads his own jazz trio and plays piano for patients at St. Mary’s Hospital. Pat is a sculptor and plays with the Frank Bregar band and formerly he Centennial Band.
Javier de los Santos has performed extensively in the U.S., Mexico, Spain and Brazil. He recently performed with the Apollo Chamber Players from Houston at the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra Chamber Concert Series. Past performances include playing with Pepe Romero and Romero’s Guitar Quartet at the Celedonio Romero Guitar Institute in Oklahoma City, and being a soloist with the Grand Junction and Boulder Symphony Orchestras. Javier is founder of Mariachi San Jose, president and artistic director of the Western Colorado Classical Guitar Society and guitar instructor for the Aspen Music Festival and school guitar programs in the Roaring Fork Valley. He currently lives in Grand Junction and teaches guitar privately and at Colorado Mesa University.

1:55 pm, Guitar Favorites/Sound Manager Equipped with his trusty guitar, Ron Koss is dynamic. Whether he’s entertaining with Americana rock favorites, country melodies or swing tunes, just about anything he plays has audiences singing along and brings them to their feet. He has played music professionally for over 30 years. He is BeaconFest’s sound manager and has performed at numerous events across the Grand Valley for over a decade.

9 a.m., Barbershop Quartet Founded in January 2017, Canyon Grand consists of four seasoned Bookcliff Barbershop Harmony Chorus members dedicated to helping the chorus learn new music. Tenor George Humfeld, lead Olyn Carlson, bass Dave Woodward and baritone Bob Labig make up this senior quartet, with over 250 combined years of singing experience and plenty of graying hair. Tim Veazey has been playing piano since age 3, picking out one-finger melodies to church hymns, popular radio hits and television theme songs. He grew up with formal training and his diverse skillset of playing classical and popular music has served him well in his near 40-year career. He has toured internationally, entertaining audiences in intimate listening rooms as well as stadiums. He has also performed for the late Princess Margaret, Ted Turner, Pete Fountain and The Allman Brothers Band member Dickey Betts. Peggy Malone has been a professional entertainer for over 50 years. As an active member of the Western Music Association and bearing the title of the Colorado Country Music Hall of Fame’s 2016 Female Vocalist of the Year, Peggy strives to keep cowboy music alive and well. Her shows thrive on audience participation with her maracas and “stick hosses.” Her songs range from classic country to pop. Years ago, she won the Patsy Cline Sing Alike Contest at the Regency Hotel in Denver. Two of her songs have received widespread attention. “Appaloosa, Running Through My Mind” was adopted as the Appaloosa Horse Club’s song in Moscow, Idaho. “Singin’ a Cowboy Song” won a Heartland Regional Emmy and is featured in the PBS Special, “A Night at the Rodeo.”
