O
ver the years, people have told me that participating in the Western Colorado Senior Games was the most fun they’ve ever had. Not only do they get to see old friends, they also get to make new ones and have a great time doing so. Because of the growing number of participants, we have expanded this year’s games to include over 55 different types of events, attracting 300 competitors from all over the U.S. We’ve had folks come from as far away as Alaska, Texas and Wisconsin. Whether you’re competing for your personal best, fulfilling a fitness goal or just want to be more active, there is a sport for you! Activities include pickleball, swimming, bowling, dance, track and
field, horseshoes, golf, bocce ball, table tennis, 5K run/walk, billiards, basketball, cards and more. The Thursday evening banquet at the Ale House gives participants an opportunity to meet other competitors, congratulate them and celebrate victories. There will also be live entertainment provided by the Bookcliff Barbershop Harmony Chorus. Don’t forget to sign up on your registration form on the back of this program. General Information REGISTRATION OVERVIEW Registration deadlines • Early bird registration deadline is August 4 at 5 p.m. Registration closes August 11 at 5 p.m. No registrations will be accepted after this time. How to register • Fill out the Entry Form on the back page of this program and return it to the Grand Junction Parks & Recreation office at 1340 Gunnison Ave. • Register online at http://bit.ly/westerncoseniorgames17 • Request a registration form by calling 254-3866 Age requirements • Participants should register according to the age they will be on August 21, 2017. • The age groups are: 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89, 90-94, 95-99, 100+. Some events are 10-year increments. • Events will be conducted by age group except when it is necessary to combine for competition. • All team members must submit an individual entry form and entry fee. Partner/teammate(s) must be indicated on the entry form where required.
RECRUIT A NEW ATHLETE
• Participants are encouraged to get new athletes involved in the 17th Annual Western Colorado Senior Games. As a reward, the recruiting athlete will receive $5 off their registration cost. • The new athlete's registration form and the recruiting athlete's registration form must be turned in together. • $5 is the maximum an athlete may take of their registration fees.

CANCELLATIONS, POSTPONEMENTS & REFUNDS
• In the event of inclement weather or unusual and extenuating circumstances, Senior Games Officials reserve the right to change the format of competition, postpone events or cancel. Refunds will not be given due to weather. Refunds will only be granted if requested prior to August 5, 2017. No refunds will be given after this date.
CHECK-IN & EVENT SCHEDULING
• Participants are encouraged to check in at the Grand Junction Parks and Recreation office, 1340 Gunnison Ave., prior to participation. This can be done August 18-25 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday (excluding 12:30 p.m.-1:30 p.m.) • A T-shirt, participant medal, goodie bag, schedule, map and other information will be provided. • Participants should be at the event 15 minutes prior to the event start time, as listed on the schedule. • Participants are encouraged to enter more than one event, but do so at their own risk, as schedule changes cannot be made to accommodate sports that occur simultaneously. Please plan accordingly.
AWARDS
• Star pins will be presented to the first, second and third place finishers in each category at the event venue. • The Western Colorado Senior Games are open to out-of-state residents. • Competition must take place to determine an award winner. If there is only one individual entered into an age group, that athlete must enter and complete the event in order to receive a pin. The athlete will be placed in the closest age category, but will not compete against those athletes.
