Welcometo BeaconFest, Colorado’s largest and funnest celebration for seniors, baby boomers and their families!
Get ready to treat yourself to a fun-filled day of learning and entertainment as we celebrate everything that’s great about getting older! (I promise there’s plenty!) BeaconFest is also our way of celebrating BEACON readers and the businesses devoted to helping them age well in Western Colorado.
If you’re reading this before the show, don’t miss out! Mark your calendars for Thursday, April 20, 2023. BeaconFest takes place from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Grand Junction Convention Center, 159 Main St.
Whether you’re a BeaconFest veteran or a first-time guest, here are some things you can expect from this year’s show:
EVERYTHING IS FREE!
No other senior expo around has live music, delicious food samples and a full schedule of educational seminars—all for free!
BeaconFest is the best opportunity to visit directly with more than 100 local and national agencies, from home improvement experts and housing representatives to health care providers and advocacy organizations. We’ll also have real estate professionals, financial advisors, local clubs, nonprofit organizations and more!
We have an exciting lineup of entertainers performing throughout the day. On the main stage,
we have local favorites King n Trio, Javier de los Santos and The Swing City Combo, along with Donny Morales from Montrose.
The foyer is where you’ll catch the poppin’ barbershop melodies of Canyon Grand Barbershop Quartet. Mike Gazdak will greet guests with his accordion and the Harps in Motion Ensemble will serenade you with their glorious harps. Peggy Malone gets out her maracas and stick horses for a galloping good show, and Jimmy LIVE makes his BeaconFest debut with classic pop covers and other favorites.
Learn from local experts about the ins and outs of Medicare, estate planning, charitable giving, breakthrough medical treatments for weight loss, vascular diseases, joint problems and more in our free seminars.
Register to win thousands of dollars’ worth of door prizes. Skip the line and make the most of your time at BeaconFest by filling out the door prize form before the show and dropping it by the BEACON booth on your way inside. You could win fabulous vacation packages, hot springs soaks, living room furniture and gift cards to your favorite restaurants.
You must be present to win, so walk around or sit back and wait for your name to be called. With multiple winners selected every half hour, your odds of winning are pretty good—way better than the lottery, that’s for sure!
Stick around until 2:30 p.m. for Let’s Make
a Squeal, the game when all unclaimed door prizes will be given to the audience in a madcap rendition of Monty Hall’s Let’s Make a Deal.
Even though they don’t do it for the recognition, join us in honoring some of our community’s most giving and passionate senior volunteers during the Volunteer of the Year ceremony at 1 p.m.
Show our exhibitors some love by voting for your favorite booths! Grab a Senior’s Choice Ballot on your way inside and let us know who you think had the best overall booth, the booth with the friendliest people, and the booth with the best giveaways. Pick up the next edition of our monthly magazine or visit BeaconFest.Beacon SeniorNews.com to see the winners!
To our guests: BeaconFest is our way of saying thank you for reading the BEACON! Please also thank our vendors and sponsors. BeaconFest would not be possible without their support.

Did you know that older adults are among the populations underrepresented in clinical research? This research leads to new ways to prevent, detect and treat conditions that affect health. Consequently, health care providers often lack information to guide their care of older adults.
Participation in research by older adults can help address this evidence gap and lead to new discoveries that promote mobility, independence, longevity and quality of life.
To learn more about ongoing research and why it matters to the health of older adults, the Multi-disciplinary Center on Aging affiliated with the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus invites you to take part in a fun, interactive Research Roadshow at BeaconFest!
Stop by our booth near the main entrance to meet Older Adult Research Specialists—older adults who are pursuing encore careers dedicated to increasing the inclusion of older adults in research.
Next, explore the Older Adult Research Roadshow Hub where you can participate in user testing of assistive devices. Through user testing, you will experience how your own participation in research can improve products for older adults.
You can also meet researchers and learn about groundbreaking studies that are actively enrolling older adults on topics that range from brain health to home safety.
A computer instructor will be on hand to assist with connecting participants to free/low-cost internet access (to support remote research study participation) and to demonstrate how to complete tasks required of study participation, such as downloading and uploading an informed consent document.
We hope you will have fun connecting with other participants and research teams learning about the variety of opportunities to take part in research, and ways that research is transforming the way we age. ■
Take a picture of the QR code using your smartphone to learn how you can play an active role in improving health care for older adults, or connect with us at: Research.CUAnschutz.edu/OlderAdults or OlderAdultResearch@CUAnschutz.edu for details.
