Little Beacons Welcome Little Beacons Nursery is a haven for healthy boyishness and the perfect environment for the start of your son’s education. Led by our expert team of boy focused staff and facilitated within an interactive and well resourced standalone premises, the Little Beacon boys learn how to play, how to explore and how to work with one another. The core Beacon values of kindness and cooperation are embedded at this formative stage as well as that of resilience, preparing them for the challenges and opportunities ahead. The Beacon School has a reputation for success in all areas – academic, sporting, musical, drama and development of character – it is at Little Beacons where these achievements are fostered. Outstanding Child-centred Education Our Little Beacon boys will learn through active adult-led play, collaboration, investigation and exploration. We respond to the individual interests and learning needs of your son to tailor education to inspire him. Our boys benefit from having a fully-qualified Teacher and Teaching Assistants as part of our caring Nursery staff, and they will enjoy lessons in PE, Swimming in our heated indoor pool, Outdoor Learning, Music and Movement, all given by caring and specialised teaching staff. As well as enjoying free-flow, play-led experiences, our Little Beacons are also introduced to numbers, shapes, numerical patterns, measuring and Phonics, as well as Library activities. The broad, balanced and stimulating activities on offer for our Little Beacons not only start to focus on developing key Early Years learning goals, but also on encouraging our boys' creativity and curiosity to try new things, which will help them to become independent thinkers and learners. Throughout his year in Nursery, your son will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through the seven areas of learning and development.

Inspiring Learning Environment There is a full range of stimulating activities available to our Little Beacon boys in our spacious Early Years environment. Our large outdoor play area features a wooden climbing frame and construction zone, a large sandpit, brightly-coloured rideon toys and trikes, a mini stage and puppetshow zone, plus numerous outdoor toys and a large area in which to run around. Little Beacons enjoy regular Outdoor Learning adventures in the beautiful woodlands surrounding the school where the boys develop a real love and respect for nature and the world around them. The weekly welly walks encourage curiosity and exploration.

Our light and spacious indoor areas feature an exciting role-play zone, a dedicated library and cosy room for stories, circle time and rests, as well as a colourful creative area for cooking, arts, crafts and messy play. Little Beacons will benefit from a host of sporting activities, being taught key elements of ball sports, practising agility, balance and co-ordination.

Wellbeing Pastoral Care and Wellbeing is central to the ethos of The Beacon. We are a happy school with a strong pastoral system. We have a dedicated Medical centre, with two fully qualified Nurses on site for the full school day. To learn more about the nurturing pastoral care at The Beacon, please click here. Our aim is that our Little Beacons enjoy every moment of their time with us so that, by the end of the Summer Term in Nursery, our boys are fully prepared for the exciting challenges that lie ahead in Reception at The Beacon.

Nursery Hours & Sessions Little Beacons is open Monday to Friday during The Beacon School term times. Please click here for current term dates. Boys can join Little Beacons the year before Reception. The minimum sessions from the Autumn Term will be five morning sessions, we would advised that this increases to seven sessions by the Spring Term and eight sessions in the Summer Term so that our Little Beacons are fully prepared for Reception. Each morning session includes a healthy midmorning snack. A delicious two-course hot lunch, eaten with our Nursery staff in the Dining Room, is available for boys staying for the whole day. Our talented catering team prepare all our nutritious, well-balanced food on site, using fresh and locally-sourced ingredients. The afternoon sessions will include Swimming, PE, Outdoor Learning, Cooking, and Music and Movement. Both sessions will explore the key skills required for developing an understanding of Phonics and Maths as well as other areas of learning.
