Seat open on the Library Board of Trustees for the Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library Applications are now being accepted for a vacancy on the five-member Board of Trustees for theMonterey Park Bruggemeyer Library. It is for a three-year term.Applicants must be a City resident and a registered voter. Theapplicants are interviewed and appointed by the City Council at aCouncil Meeting. The appointee does not receive any compensation and canbe reappointed for another consecutive three-year term by the CityCouncil when his or her term expires. Under Municipal Code 2.80.050, the fivemember Library Board makes andenforces all rules, regulations, and bylaws necessary for theadministration, government and protection of the Monterey ParkBruggemeyer Library. The Board meets the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in theFriends Room of the Library. Meetings are usually about two hours inlength. Special meetings may be scheduled as needed. Applications are available at the Monterey Park City Clerk’s officelocated in the lobby of City Hall at 320 W. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank) nominates students from the 28th Congressional District for appointment to one of the four United States service academies which require a Congressional nomination. Three deaths due to West Nile Virus were confirmed this past week, bringing the total in Los Angeles County to seven, according to health officials. The three latest victims were men with pre-existing health conditions Los Angeles county said. One man was a San Fernando Valley resident, and the other two

At the Tuesday, October 22, 2013 Glendale City Council meeting, City Manager Scott Ochoa introduced Robert Castro as the 12th Police Chief for the City of Glendale. Robert Castro is currently the Chief of Police for the city of Glendora, a position he has held for the

past three years. Chief Castro began his law enforcement career working for the City of Glendora as a police cadet in 1985. He was hired as a police officer in 1986 and worked his way up through the ranks to Chief of Police. Chief Castro attended Azusa Pacific University obtaining a Bachelor and Masters Degree in Business Management. He is a Graduate of the POST Command College and the West Point Law Enforcement Leadership Program. He holds a POST Executive Certificate and is a member of the California Police Chiefs’ Association and the International Association of Police Chiefs. As the Police Chief of Glendora, Castro transformed the police department into a highly effective and efficient organization, an evolution hastened by the Great Recession.
