Monrovia Chamber raising money for Steve Baker memorial

To honor Monrovia’s beloved and ubiquitous city treasure and historian Steve Baker, who passed away in April of 2022, the Monrovia Chamber of

Commerce is raising money to install and maintain a “Steve Baker Bear.”

According to the Chamber, contributions from local organizations is paying for the bear and contributions from the GoFundMe fundraiser will help pay for “long-term maintenance for years to come.”

As part of Monro- via’s efforts to display art in public places, the city installed multiple Samson the Bear statues — honoring the famous hot tub-loving black bear — around town. The proposed Steve Baker Bear will include a top hat and tails, designed after Baker’s signature outfits. As of yet, no location placement has been decided for the bear.
