wo men from the San Gabriel Valley were charged in federal court for allegedly participating in the kidnapping of Ruochen “Tony” Liao, a Chinese national who was violently abducted from a mall parking lot in San Gabriel two years ago, and whose parents were extorted for $2 million in ransom before Liao died from his injuries.
Anthony Valladares, 28, of Pasadena, and Alexis Ivan Romero Velez, 24, most recently a resident of Azusa, were taken into custody Tuesday during the execution of search warrants by FBI agents and members of the San Gabriel Valley Safe Street Task Force. Federal prosecutors filed a criminal complaint in United States District Court that charges both Valladares and Romero
with one count of kidnapping. Previously in this investigation, two Chinese nationals were charged in a fourcount indictment alleging they kidnapped Mr. Liao and attempted to collect $2 million in ransom from Mr. Liao’s family in

Ontario Recreation & Community Services Presents Battle of the Bands
On July 15, 2020, the Corona City Council unanimously approved Phase I of the Homeless Strategic Plan. Phase I marks the beginning of a five-year plan designed to help the City more effectively address homelessness in Corona. The Homeless Strategic Plan was developed through a highly collaborative process from December 2019 through May 2020. Key components of the plan include 1) Robust Community Engagement Process; 2) Comprehensive Needs Assessment; 3) Homeless Cost Impact Analysis; and 4) Analysis of Best Practices
Five local bands will compete virtually every Wednesday night between July 22 and Aug. 19. Each weekly battle video will showcase one song from each band. Vote on your favorite band each week. Battle videos are posted weekly on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. Battles will air on ontarioca.gov/battlebands, the City of Ontario's YouTube, the City of Ontario's Facebook page, and the City of Ontario's Community Life and Culture Facebook page.
